Rock Legend Defends JoJo Siwa's Eye-Catching Red Carpet Look

Gene Simmons has no issues with JoJo Siwa rocking a look similar to his signature style.

Siwa turned heads at the the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday (April 1) when she arrived on the yellow carpet dressed in a bedazzled black, cut-out mesh bodysuit with chunky boots, faux hawk and detailed spiky black makeup drawn around her eyes and hairline and down her neck and chest.

The look instantly drew comparisons with the theatrical makeup worn by iconic metal band KISS, specifically with the eye-catching look worn by bassist Gene Simmons for his "Demon" persona. While some commenters online claimed that Siwa was ripping off Simmons' style, he didn't have a problem with the "Boomerang" singer's new edgier look.

Speaking to TMZ, the rocker, who acknowledged that Siwa looked like him at the show, praised her darker look and said that any hater dissing her new vibe is simply jealous.

"JoJo is cool. Anybody who doesn't get it is just jealous, period," he said, before adding some words of wisdom. "Never be ordinary. Always be extraordinary. JoJo is extraordinary and she looks cool."

Siwa described her "insane" look as the "new JoJo" rather than a rebrand, adding that it was a sneak peek at what she wears in her new video for "Karma," which drops Friday, April 5.
