Recalled Health Food Sold In Pennsylvania Poses Risk Of 'Fatal Infection'

Natural Sourcing International voluntarily recalled one lot of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds on May 10th due to possible bacteria contamination. According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the aforementioned product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Defined by the CDC as a bacteria that, when consumed, "results in a mild to severe diarrheal illness known as acute gastroenteritis;" Salmonella can cause a wide range of symptoms from stomach discomfort to endocarditis and arthritis.

Other symptoms of ingesting Salmonella include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and in serious cases, arterial infections and infected aneurysms.

Customers should avoid consuming, throw away, or return Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds with lot code 24095 C018, expiration date October 30, 2026, and UPC 078742300665 to the place of purchase for a full refund upon proof of receipt. The FDA mentioned that this product was distributed to Walmart stores nationwide.
