2024 Olympics Day 9 Results: Noah Lyles Makes History In Photo Finish

Noah Lyles became the first American to win the gold medal in the men's 100-meter final in 20 years in a photo finish during Day 9 of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday (August 4).

Lyles, 27, was timed at 9.79 seconds, edging Jamaica's Kishane Thompson by a .005 second difference, to become the first American to win gold in the event since Justin Gatlin at the 2004 Athens Olympics. USA teammate Fred Keley took bronze with a time of 9.81, which also marked the first time two American teammates made the podium in the 100-meter final since Gatlin and Maurice Greene in 2004.

Team USA set a new world record while winning a gold medal in the women's 4x100-meter medley relay final on Sunday. Team USA -- comprised of Regan Smith, Lily King, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske -- finished with a time of 3:49.63, with Australia taking silver at 3:53.11 and China taking bronze at 3:53.23.

Team USA also took silver in the men's 4x100-meter final with a score of 3:28.01. China won gold with a time of 3:27.46 and France took bronze with a time of 3:28.38.

World No. 1 golfer and two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler (USA) won gold in the men's individual stroke play event at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday. Scheffler, 28, shot a flawless 9-under during the final round Sunday to finish at 19-under for the four-day tournament. Tommy Fleetwood of Great Britain finished at 18-under to take silver and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan finished at 17-under to take bronze.

The United States Women's Basketball team defeated Germany, 87-68, during their final Group C matchup on Sunday to advance to the knockout stage of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Jackie Young recorded a game-high 19 points, as well as four rebounds, two assists and four steals off the bench to lead the Americans to a perfect 3-0 record in Group C play.

Veteran starters A'Ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart combined to score 27 points as Wilson finished with 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals and Stewart recorded 13 points, three assists and three rebounds.
