Stevie Wonder, John Legend and Sheila E. stole the show on the third night of the Democratic National Convention.
On Wednesday night, August 21, more stars hit the stage at the United Center in Chicago to support the Democratic presidential nominees Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Stevie Wonder kicked things off by delivering a powerful speech to the attendees in the jam-packed arena before he performed "Higher Ground."
"We must choose joy over anger, kindness over recrimination, and peace over war every time," he said. "We must choose to be above the ugly words, the hateful anger and the division those words and anger create."
"We must keep on keeping on until we truly are a united people of these United States," he concluded. "And then, we'll reach our higher ground."
Later on, Grammy award-winning singer John Legend and the queen of percussion Sheila E. joined forces to perform one of Prince's greatest hits "Let's Go Crazy." John started his set at the piano, but midway through, the spirit of the late Minnesota native took over as he belted out the rest of the song by Sheila E.'s side.
The rare performances from Stevie Wonder, John Legend and Sheila E. emphasize the star power that has taken over the DNC. In addition to celebrity guest speakers like Oprah Winfrey and Tony Goldwyn, event organizers switched things up by incorporating music into their roll call to solidify the votes for the Harris/Walz campaign. The roll call was curated by DJ Cassidy, who played songs that represented each state. During Georgia's vote, Lil Jon surprised attendees by performing songs like "Turn Down For What" and "Get Low."
Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to accept her nomination tonight during the final hours of the convention. There are plenty of rumors about what other celebrities will be in the building to support Harris, but fans are convinced it might be Taylor Swift or Beyoncé.
