It's been a week of BIG news in the rock world. Not only did Oasis announce a long-awaited reunion, but Linkin Park and Deryck Whibley teased announcements that just happened to both be coming on Wednesday morning (August 28). The timing of it all had fans convinced the Sum 41 frontman was joining the nu metal legends as their new singer, or going on tour with Oasis, but Whibley took to social media to dispel the rumors and reveal his news.
"I would like to reiterate one more time that I am not joining any other bands. I do find it interesting though, the amount of text messages I got asking me if I was joining Oasis of all bands," he said with a laugh before going into his own announcement. Whibley is publishing a book called Walking Disaster and will be signing book sleeves on tour for fans who've already purchased the memoir. He also touched on what fans can expect from the book, which comes out on October 8.
"Some things are good, some things are bad, some things are so personal I can’t believe I even spoke about them, but I figured if you’re writing a book you gotta be honest," he said.
Sum 41 will head back on their farewell tour on September 4 and plan to play their final show ever on January 30, 2025 in Toronto. Rumors have been swirling about Linkin Park continuing with a new vocalist since Orgy's Jay Gordon mentioned that he heard the band would be returning with a female singer back in April. At the time, Evanescence's Amy Lee was thought to be the late Chester Bennington's successor, but she quickly debunked those rumors. Linkin Park are set to make their big announcement at 11:15am PST.
