Drake is one of several artists who support Tory Lanez's bid to get a pardon.
On Friday, May 16, the Canadian rapper showed love to the imprisoned singer by calling for his release from prison. He posted an Instagram Story with a link to a Change.org petition that urges Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a full pardon to Lanez, born Daystar Peterson. The petition, which was launched by founder of the Caldwell Institute for Public Safety Gianno Caldwell, also calls on Governor Newsom to "remove politically motivated sentencing enhancements" and "order a full and impartial review of the case to ensure no one else is subjected to a similar injustice."
"@torylanez come home soon," Drizzy wrote in his post.
After Drake shared the petition, other artists like Ye, Joyner Lucas and Kodak Black followed suit. Trippie Redd, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and Popcaan also reposted the link to the petition. "Free my guy @torylanez," Lucas wrote.
"Everyone send prayers for this amazing human," Kodak wrote in his story. "Write and support him most importantly pray and sign these petitions to get him home he innocent."
The petition was created after Tory Lanez's legal team announced new evidence to support his innocence. During a press conference last week, United The People said Kelsey Harris' former bodyguard came forward and claimed he overheard Harris say she shot Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 during phone conversations with her husband and others.
Tory Lanez's legal team announced the shocking update after Lanez was stabbed 14 times in prison. The "Say It" artist was attacked by a fellow inmate while in the prison yard and received medical treatment immediately afterward. Both his lungs collapsed, but he was placed on a breathing device and was reportedly speaking normally. He's expected to make a full recovery.
