Bailey Zimmerman took a tumble and suffered a gnarly head injury in “the craziest music video I’ve ever done.”

Zimmerman, 25, is introduced to the rodeo crowd as the “hometown hero” of Nashville, Tennessee. The country star takes off on a bucking bull, and when he falls to the ground, the audience — including a woman in a red dress — stands and waits with bated breath to determine whether he’s OK.

The cinematic music video, directed by Zimmerman and Jerry Morka, cuts to a scene that shows Zimmerman reuniting with his friends at a bar and dance hall after the rodeo. He said he had a “slight headache, but the only thing that I’ve got on my mind is that girl.” The friends walk inside together approach the bartender — played by DJ and music producer Diplo — who points out that he’s seen Zimmerman “take a bunch of hard falls before, but you aways get up, and you’re never this quiet. What’s going on?” The country star’s friend points out that Zimmerman is “quiet” because he’s thinking about the girl in the red dress, and just as the group begins talking about her, she arrives at the venue.

Zimmerman introduces himself to the mystery girl, who lets him know that he’ll “have to work a little harder than that” to win her over. Diplo points out that Zimmerman is “not just a cowboy. (He) can sing, too,” and the girl asks him to “prove it. …By the way you’re smiling, I can tell you want to impress me. So, impress me, cowboy.”

That’s when Zimmerman performed “Comin’ In Cold,” the single he released on Friday (June 6) as he announced his new studio album, Different Night Same Rodeo. The 18-track record will also include previously-released songs “Holy Smokes,” “Backup Plan” with Luke Combs (a “dream come true,” Zimmerman said), “New To Country,” “Hell or High Water” (which appeared on the star-studded Twisters soundtrack), and “Holding On.”

“There’s something about this new song, ‘Comin in Cold,’ that just feels like something that I haven’t done before because it’s not really about heartbreak. It’s more about this girl that (I) should not be chasing,” Zimmerman said earlier this week in a press conference hosted at Raising Cane’s Nashville Flagship. “The last two years of my life, I have just chased red flags constantly. Every girl I like, it comes out like, ‘oh, you have a boyfriend and you’ve been cheating on your boyfriend with me.’ …Massive red flag. I’m just so addicted to them. So, that’s what this song is really about…she’s everything I want, but nothing that I need. I don’t’ need that, but man, I want it. It’s kind of like a beer on a Saturday night. You don’t really need it, but you want it, you know?

“‘Comin’ in Cold’ is a little different because it’s not like, ‘F you, you broke my heart,’ or, you know, like ‘oh, I’m sad, I’m heartbroken,’” he explained. “It’s more like, I’ve been trying to get un-heartbroken and I seem to be finding more people that just keep – like gosh dang, dude, can I not just find a freakin’ girl that’s like, loves God, (is) a good person, treats people right, you know? It’s always something, you know? I think ‘Comin’ in Cold’ just talks about more how my life has been the last couple years than the heartbreak I went through as a teenager and that stuff. So, yeah, it’s kind of like more mature, I guess, if you would. Not really, because I’m still chasing girls in bars, but what are you gonna do?”
