Zak Starkey's supergroup Mantra of the Cosmos just got even more star power. The band, which sees Ringo Starr's son joined by Oasis bassist Andy Bell, and Happy Mondays members Shaun Ryder and Mark “Bez” Berry, recruited John Lennon's son Sean Ono Lennon and Paul McCartney's son James McCartney for a new song called "Rip Off."
Starkey shared the track on his Instagram, revealing that Sean, James and Shaun all provide vocals. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the drummer insisted that the song was not influenced by their dads' band. “No, it’s not [like a Beatles song],” he said. “It’s like Mantra of the Cosmos with them in it. It’s Sean of the Cosmos and James of the Cosmos, it’s still my band.”
This isn't the first time James and Sean have collaborated together. Last year, they put out a song together called "Primrose Hill." Listen to "Rip Off" below.
It's been a whirlwind couple months for Starkey, who was fired then re-hired by The Who, just to be told he was "retired" shortly after. In the same Telegraph interview Starkey, who also played drums in Oasis, claimed he turned down the reunion tour because he thought he'd be playing The Who's farewell tour. Now he's not playing either.
