Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh let's go, Arnie go. Yes,
I'm ready, man, I am ready to kick off this
show from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, where fifteen
minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance.
All you have to do is visit Geico dot com

(00:22):
for a free rate quote, and I will be accepting
your apology right off the top. Why I'm in a
good mood today? What are you talking about? Oh, come on, Arnie.
Last week we paid homage to our new affiliate in
Boston by you trying to push the panic button about
Tom Brady's contract. And I told you, as like, Arnie, relax, everybody,

(00:44):
chill out. This isn't a big drama filth thing. And
if I'm not mistaken, I think your point was, oh
wake up, Dorothy, Annie, something's calling. I didn't wait a minute.
I didn't say they were going to cut him or
anything like that. What's wrong with you? I just said.
I just said, it's not it's not a good look

(01:04):
what they're doing to him. It wasn't right. He wasn't
happy about it. I wouldn't be happy about it. Um.
They dragged it on so and had they get on.
It was a week. It was a week, could have
been done a week earlier. He with the money that
he's taking, my goodness, he should be making quad truple
that right now. But but I'll wait, I'll wait for

(01:25):
your apology, apology for me, muck raker, You muck raker
trying to cause all these problems and make everyone mad
and and be the hot take warrior whenever. I'm just
telling you to calm down. All his ride with Tom Brady,
all is right with the Patriots? How dare you not
at all right with the Patriots? So you can stop
that boloney right there. They've got wide receiver problems. Um

(01:49):
who knows the status? I mean, who knows what Sony
Michelle is gonna be like this year? Tom Brady is
certainly getting at forty two. I've got questions about him
because he didn't put up the best stats, not and
it's not that easy of a division like it's always been.
I'm not so sure the Patriots are gonna be just
fine by they're talking to a guy that is picking
football games at a hundred percent against the spread. So

(02:13):
you know, us j bell Us Bernie us our buddy
Todd furman um if they picking a d pent, okay,
because I'm picking it a hundred percent right now. You
know I meant to write this down. Let me uh,
because I'm gonna try to keep track for you here
in two thousand and nineteen into two thousand and twenty.
But and I thought it would actually do better. But

(02:36):
I'll take a dent you had Denver minus two and
a half and take goodness to that incredible play at
the end of the game, an easy way. I had
that one all the way and you had the under
thirty four. So it's okay. This is why the preseason
is the free season. Well two and oh and now

(02:57):
we have a full slate of games for you to
pick this week already already wrote them down. There'll be
no guessing at the end of the show. Like I
usually I wrote them down ahead of time, this time
there'll be There'll be none of you digging to try
to figure out what spread is in a commercial break,
because I'm digging through, going okay, what's the latest lines?

(03:17):
This time? Actually did some homework because I'm picking it.
So are you trying to tell me, Arnie that you
might not actually be hoping for the last segment to
only be a couple of minutes. You might actually want
a full last segment today because of all the games.
Will have to pick. Well, I actually had five picks,
but um, the fifth pick was it's just in a
hundred and eighteen days until my Arizona Wildcats go undefeated.

(03:40):
So yeah, hey, I just found that out today. By
the way, I didn't know that until today. You didn't
know that until today the Arizona was gonna go undefeated
this season, and I didn't. I had my reservations about
winning in Oregon and winning at Arizona State, but I've
talked to myself into it. So I'm pretty sure, um,
undefeated season this year. I don't go, you know, I'm

(04:00):
I'm I'm likecent sure we'll go nine and oh before
the Oregon game. Okay, all right, well, but don't make
me talk college football. Stop it now, stop it. Hey,
I wasn't the one that brought it up. You know me,
I could talk college footballer. You know, I know you
love that stuff. In fact, I have an earmarked for
a segment later tonight, and no one has complained or
started yelling at me yet, so I feel pretty good

(04:22):
about the possibilities to actually get some college football talking
here without people complaining. But I thought it was already
gonna be Clemson in Alabama, and I don't know what
we're gonna talk about. What what would we possibly talk about? Already? Well,
be first, there's four teams that make the playoffs, so
it was gonna be Clemson Alabama at the end there.
But did you did you know? We know, let me

(04:42):
climp to that ABATMA Arizona and whoever the fourth team is.
But going, okay, you can go ahead and go with that,
but um, the last year, I would yeah, I think
you went with it the year before that, and I
think you went the year before that. If if I've
ever right, boy, I'll I'll be like the like the
n C double A Final four when you do the practice,
I'll be like the only one. Yes, I can guarantee

(05:03):
you that you out. And and some guy named Wildcat
Willie who's listening to us in Tucson or who's who's
posting on the message boards, say I heard somebody on
national radio pick us to go to the final four.
Let's go, and it's it's you and you've done it
every single year. But I did want to point one
thing out before we get too far removed. So not
only are we entering by my math today are sixth

(05:27):
straight season college football season being on the air together,
but this will mark the sixth straight season that you
have projected Arizona to win a national championship, and in
that army, the sixth straight season in which you've laid
out there's problems ahead for the New England Patriots. So
but let's be honest. Arizona almost did win it. One year,

(05:49):
almost won the national championship. They almost won their half
of the pack twelve and one. I mean, that's winning
year half of the pack twelve is just like a
nast twelve. Right we won? I have no idea that.
I mean, those kick your games off at nine am
so everyone can watch them now, aren't not at eleven
o'clock difference? That's right, That's right. We wouldn't have to

(06:11):
worry about Pacific time. Man, we got a busy show tonight.
Luke Easterling is coming up here in our next segment.
He's the man who can touch on a little bit
of everything. But tonight is our NFC South preview, and
every since I guess what now? Four weeks ago, I
did a little crazy math crazy right, and I realized
we were eight weeks away from the start of the

(06:32):
college football the NFL season. So we've taken a division
every single week and we've kind of gone through it
with a fine tooth comb, if that's even the proper analogy.
And this week we're gonna talk about the NFC South.
Luke Easterlings coming up early to give us some perspective,
and then we'll circle back and go in depth on
the division a little bit later on. By the way,
fun side note here, my favorite topic heading into any

(06:56):
game is who's the X factor, Who's the sleeper, Who's
the guy that we're not talking about that's gonna make
the big play. That's what I love. I think in
the time that we've worked together, I've realized one of
your favorite conversation pieces heading into a season is worst
to first, because twenty two teams in the last like

(07:17):
fourteen years have gone from worst first. The NFC South
was really where this whole I guess you could say
phenomenon had kind of started back when they went in
the oh three, oh four, oh five, oh six, and
oh seven season, where they had teams that went from
worst to first, so could that happen again this year? Unlikely,

(07:38):
but we'll get Arnie's take, and Luke Easternly covers those
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's coming up here in just a bit.
And then Arnie Howard Bolzer was at the Hall of
Fame ceremonies this weekend. He's one of my favorite NFL writers,
will talk the league in general, coming up with him
in our number two. So you gotta you got an
early feel on that NFC South or do you want

(07:59):
to eight before we dive into deeply. I've got one
careful um giving out my picks. You know what I mean.
It's like, is there some like restriction against Warren Buffett
just giving out stock tips because it causes too much
of a frenzy. I'm picking it a hundred percent, which
I don't think anybody else in the world can say that.
I gotta, I gotta be careful what my picks are.

(08:20):
And you know, I I've got to wait until a
little bit later on who I like it the division,
and I don't ask before my picks against the just
yet I'm all right still fine tuning that one. Also,
we do go over unders on the league as well too,
so I'll make sure to pause on that front with
you as well. By the way, I feel like, yeah,
I feel like I've buried the league lead here tonight

(08:42):
with Aunty Plank on Fox Sports Radio. By the way,
Bubbo on the Wheels of Steel lead a lot producing.
You'll hear more from Steve to Sager as the show
rolls on, and the millions and millions of editors behind
the scenes making sure we have all of the sound necessary. Yes,
but really quick, I'm bobo, Arnie. I know you're you
know you're older, so your memories and always did you
guys don't put the show, so I had no idea
of my bad Okay, so since we don't help with

(09:03):
the show, I'm not gonna do anything related to you.
So when he calls you, how is that being nice?
How is that might be nice? This is what I get.
I may have to come back out to LA and
hang out. Please don't know, Arnie. I honestly was going
to say how much the crew missed you last night,

(09:23):
that's Saturday night, and then he wasn't here, and then
the real Arnie shows up. So even before it gets
out of my house, I keep it real. I keep
it real. To say that's keeping it real goals wrong.
One of the greatest shift helbits ever. With that in mind,
what was it odd being away from your normal shift

(09:45):
on your Saturday night? See Arnie has got two bands
instead of just having and every so often he has
his solo act as well too, So he's a he's
a lead singer. He's a co lead with me on
Sunday night and he plays saxophone too. Was it hard
to be away from your regular Saturday It was? It
was a little bit hard, but I enjoyed the Saturday
night off. I went to a wedding good friend of mine. Um,

(10:08):
had a at a good time, did a little dancing,
drank a little champagne. I haven't had champagne and geez,
like a week, so you know, I'm just kidding, I
haven't had champagne and ever. So um, you know what
I think next time I go out and like my
friend gets a bud wise or what we have. He
goes off a beer and I go, you know, I
have a glass of champagne. I think I was really good.

(10:29):
So I had a good time. Was it was a
lot of fun to get out, you know, I've I've
do a little dancing and dressing up, you know well,
And I gotta admit, for for all, for all of
this talk that you do about your wife proposing to you,
you have got to be the luck. And when Clay
Travis talks about out kicking their covers, man, you should

(10:49):
be the poster child for that. And we we got
on the dance floor and um, and I gotta tell
you we we what God it's going was to start
a foot loose. You know, whatever starts playing is their
video they're asked to be. Yeah, I'm sure there must
be to see if I can find it. Well, if
you have a good time. It was good to be

(11:10):
off Saturday night and and have to have a good time, well,
I gotta I gotta admit. If you had champagne and
you hadn't had it since what you started to and
O in the preseason, I think since my yeah, since
my kid was born. I don't think I've had champagne.
But I don't know how many glasses you had, but
it doesn't take many to get that champagne hangover. Arnie,
have you had the headaches today? Have training? Well? Are

(11:32):
you okay? No, I'm good I'm good. Everything's good, and
and the first thing I thought about is me picking
it in the NFL. So I just want to know,
doesn't can r J say that right now? Can Bernie
Todd Ferman, Clay Travis? Can anybody in the world actually
say that? Um? Can you imagine if I go a
hundred percent during the preseason, how many people are gonna

(11:53):
want to hear my picks? In Week one? I could
charge like a hundred dollars a pick. You could make
a fortune if everybody said me hundreds hundreds of dollars.
You could go back to the old school days of
a nine hundred number one. Yeah. Now, by the way,

(12:14):
Brendan automatically wins the tweet of the night where you
can hit us up throughout the evening. This is very
rare to have this done thirteen minutes into the show.
But let's go at stinking genius one. That's Aarnie I'm
at Plank show. But I don't really tweet about anything,
Brendan writes, Arizona winning the national Championship is just as
likely to happen as that Dolphins Giant super Bowl that
you pick last year. Again, I've said this before. I'll

(12:36):
say it again. Don't use my words against me. Not cool? Uh? Yeah,
that I should have been fired for the Dolphins Giant
Super Bowl pick? What was that two years ago? I
should have been fired for that one. And then our
buddy Mark Rinland hit us up. Are look at me?
Mike Arrant? I should probably have in the night off
last night, Mike writes, Wow, Aren'tie? Last night's show with

(12:56):
Torres was basically you're on air funeral. I mean the
cut you out of their promos, on, followed you on Twitter,
removed you from Wikipedia, block your Facebook. I wouldn't be
missing many more shows. Do they just kind of move
on without last night. I don't even have a Wikipedia
page anymore. Somebody took that down like a year ago.
I don't even have that going for me. That's the

(13:17):
kind of loser I am right now. But but I
believe me I will get that back up and they go.
Artie spat your Wikipedia picked a hundred percent three the
NFL season one year and one the Super Contest. Uh yeah,
let's I challenged Brad powers H the man with the
college knowledge to college football picks too. So I'm hoping

(13:38):
to pick a hundred percent in the college all side.
That would be a really good bit if I could,
If I could pull that off. I'm glad you've really
stayed humble through all of this. I'm glad that you're
two and oh start hasn't got to your head at
I prefer Okay, Well, hey, when we come back to
the guy killed Fox Sports Radio Studios, let's start a
little sneak peek at the NFC South you name it

(13:58):
to the NFL he can talk about to. Luke Easterling
is up next with Arnie and Plank on Fox Sports Radio.
It's Arnie in Plank on Fox Sports Radio on the
Wheels of Steelers. Bubba Leadle app producing the show. Steve
de Seger coming out with a full update of everything
in the world of sports in about ten minutes. But
let's head straight to the Geico Fox Sports Celebrity Hotline.

(14:19):
He's one of my favorites to read, he's one of
my favorites to listen to, and definitely one of the
best to follow on Twitter. Luke Easterling is in the
house editor of NFL Draft at USA Today Sports. We'll
talk some college football with them too before we wrap up.
But a draft wire, Sorry, thank you, Uh, Luke, Hey,
take me through. You're in Tampa still right? Are you
still in the Tampa area? So well? First of all,

(14:42):
thanks for standing up late. Give me the mindset, give
me the feeling, give me the energy. As we head
into I guess week two of camp the Bruce Arians era,
he seems to have kind of a nice tand going
a new attitude. But what's kind of been the buzz
out of Buccaneers camp as we head towards this are
to the season? You know, I think that this time

(15:04):
of year, every every fan base wants to you know,
especially with social media picking up all the sound bites
and the highlights from training camp. It it's kind of
the season of hope over every fan base. You know,
you hear all the good things and you you see
so many things to kind of rally behind. And I
think for a fan base like we have here in
Tampa Bay, this fan base is tired of that. This

(15:27):
fan base is tired of seeing the sound bites and
the highlights and the and the potential of what this
team is capable of. Because unfortunately, when when the real
games start, Uh, there's just been too much to be
disappointed about over the last few years. The last few
head coaches, they've seen regime changes left and right. They've
seen defensive coaches, offensive coaches. They've seen you know, hard

(15:48):
nosed guys and relax guys, and none of it is working.
So I think when it comes to arians obviously all
all the stars seem like they're aligned that there seems
to be a lot to be excited about. You've got
guys on defenses making making play is making, you know,
creating turnovers in camp. Jamis Winston seems to be, you know,
throwing the deep ball better and improving, and there's skill
position players to be had all over the place. The

(16:09):
problem for the fans, I think, is gonna be, you know,
they're not gonna believe it till till this team proves
it on the field on Sundays and and you know,
puts themselves in real contention in November and December, because
until then, all these training camp highlights and all the
buzz isn't gonna matter. That said, there is a lot
of it with this team. Let's hope it translates if
you're a Bucks fan, doesn't translate to enough offense, Luca,

(16:30):
Is there enough offensive weapons around Jamis Winston um. Forget
forget about the defense. For second, is there no offensive weapons?
Because the Saints were truly the best offensive team in
that division. I would put their their past catching group
up against any any group in the entire NFL. You're
talking wide receivers and tight ends. I think Mike Evans

(16:52):
and Chris Godwin are going to be one of the
best wide receiver tandems in the league. I think the
Bucks probably have the best tight end tandem in the
NFL with O. J. Howard and Camper Bray. Obviously you
lose Adam Humphrees, your slid guy, Um, but you know,
I think they'll pick up the slack there with some
young guys that they have. The problem for the Bucks
is can they give Jamis Winston enough time in the

(17:12):
pocket to take advantage of those weapons? And can they
have a running game? And that that falls on the
offensive line. I don't think the offensive line is to
the point now where I can trust them again. It's
gonna come down to Winston being able to get the
ball out quickly. Let those playmakers take care, you know,
take care of the rest. Because the running game and
the protection, really the jury is still out there. I
gotta admit, I don't know if there's a more exciting,

(17:34):
nat exciting coordinator change than seeing a Byron Leftwich who
had been talked about and there had been a lot
of buzz that was built around him in Arizona, and
then Todd Bowles, who was an incredible defensive coordinator. I
know there's been a lot of turnover with the coordinators
in this division, but my goodness, Bruce arians did a
couple of home runs in my opinion, Luke, Yeah, And
that's the thing. I think that's one of the biggest things.

(17:56):
Fans are trying to hold back their excitement. They want
to see if it's going that translate to Sundays. But
you see just you know, going to practice and seeing
how aggressive this defense is in particular obviously the offensive
you know numbers have been there and may expect those
numbers to continue under left which and Harold Goodwin who's
also gonna be uh involved there. But Todd Bowls has

(18:17):
this defense playing fast, physical, aggressive, and it's just a
complete opposite of what we saw under Mike Smith. Uh.
You know, Sunday's were just uh an exercise in banging
your head against the wall. If you're a Bucks fan watching,
you know, continuing to watch corners play ten yards off
on third and four, uh and and just you know,
creativity whatsoever. And that's why, you know, it took a

(18:40):
lot for a guy like Dirt Cutter to fire basically
his best friend and Mike Smith halfway to the season,
not even halfway. But that's how bad things got that
he was forced to make that. And I think Bucks fans,
I think that the biggest difference they will see in
their team this year isn't necessarily in terms of talent,
it's in terms of how Todd Bowls is going from
transform the mentality and the the playing style of that defense.

(19:01):
I think it's gonna make a huge difference. Look, it's
it's only August fourth. Then this breaking news just did
in the Saints of quench the division, which is I
think it's a record any time everybody's winning a division
this early. So who's finishing in second place? Dead to
the Saints? You know, it's it's hard to pick against
the Falcons right now. I think that on both sides
of the ball, they're probably the most talented and experienced.

(19:24):
You know, they're they're probably ready uh to be a
playoff team. More Southern Carolina and Tampa Bay. Um. You
know they've got, you know, a solid, reliable, veteran quarterback
in Matt Ryan who knows how to command that offense.
You still have skill position guys. You have one of
the best receivers in the game still in Julio Jones. Um.
You know, the the defense has enough talent and has
enough experience that they can stay healthy. Obviously, injuries really

(19:46):
hit them hard early in the season last year and
lost a couple of their biggest playmakers. Uh, and that,
you know, set the tone for the rest of the
season for them, I think on defense. So as long
as they can stay healthy, they're they're kind of the
easy pick in my opinion. If there's gonna be a
wild card team out of the nf the South, I
think the money's on Atlanta right now. Oh you bet,
I'm gonna ask you about your mock draft here in
a bit, Luke Easter links in the house. Uh, he

(20:08):
is the man over the draft wire that's at the
draft WI mock draft. Oh hell yeah, already come on,
but but but alway, alway, I'll show some I'll show
some pause here, uh, Luke. Now with that in mind,
very interesting group of rookie quarterbacks, and obviously one's going
to get the call right now in Kyler Murray and Arizona.
But we have a very very small sample so far.

(20:31):
What do you think of Drew Lock in Round one?
I know that you know Vick fan Joel what he said.
He's more of a thrower. He's throwing fastballs instead of
really doing a good job of pitching. What do you
think of his first action when you saw him on
Thursday night? I mean, honestly, I was kind of with Fandi.
I liked his honesty. He said he was hoping for more,
but he wasn't surprised. That's kind of what I what

(20:51):
I saw. I think that the best thing that Drew
Lock has going for him. There are two things. I
think He's got a you know, a laser attached to
his right arm that you can't teach uh. And I
think he's got tons of experience playing against some of
the best defenses in the country, some of the best
defensive talent in the country, playing three or four years
in the SEC. I think those are going to be

(21:12):
the two things that give him a chance to succeed. Um. Obviously,
though the drawbacks the things we saw. I think he
was seven for eleven in that game for for only
thirty four yards. So he's going to have to, um
get used to the NFL game. And that does what
people tell me all the time, like, you know, Alabama
could beat the worst NFL team, And I think that's

(21:34):
hilarious because you see a guy like this who goes
up against the SEC defenses all the time, and even
in the preseason action against backups. You know, it's just
a whole different ball game at the next level. So
you know, Drew Luck was a second round pick for
a reason instead of being a top ten pick. I
think he did fall because of those concerns about being
able to process the game, going from that you know,
spread offense and at at Missouri to to a more

(21:55):
pro style attack. Um and and even that term is
kind of now we don't know what to do with
that anymore. In Arizona, I think, like you mentioned, with Kyler,
Murray is going to test that time Cliff Kingsbury. Um,
that's gonna be interesting to see. But yeah, I do
a lot. It was kind of as advertised. It's going
to be a long road for him. He's in a
great situation, though, I think in Denver to be able
to to sit and learn behind Joe Flaco, I don't

(22:18):
think they're gonna be very impatient with him. I think
Flacco will give them enough success early on so that
they could be patient with luck. Who are sleeping on?
Who we're going to be wrong about this year player wise?
Team wise? Who we missing the boat on. I tell
you what, there's a guy that that seems to be
forgotten h that I really loved coming out of the
draft last year, but injuries, you know, kept him off

(22:38):
the board the entire season. I would keeping on Darius
guys to running back for the Washington Redskins. He was
the guy that I was very, very high on. I
thought he was a top ten prospect in last year's draft,
ended up falling. Whether it was you know, the biggest
concerns we we heard about in the media wasn't you
know he was too too silly and liked video games
too much and a bunch of you know, weird stuff

(22:59):
Like I was like, if that's the biggest problems you
have with this kid, I just don't understand this process.
And I've been doing this a long time. Uh, he
fell all the way to the end of the second round.
Unfortunately in knee injury, and I think the first preseason
game knocked him out for the whole rookie season. So
he's kind of been quietly waiting under the radar, and
I think that's some other box and not stable there.
But I don't think there's anybody on that roster with
the kind of talent he is. And obviously you've got

(23:21):
a very interesting quarterback situation, a couple of veterans in
Washington that really don't excite you whatsoever. But you've got
the fifteenth overall pick, Dwayne Haskins coming in should be
able to take that starting job. And the best way
to help you rookie quarterback is with a great running game.
I think Darius Guys can be that guy. I've only
got about thirty seconds here, Luke, so let's talk draft.
No One was talking Kyler Murray in the first round

(23:42):
last year at this time, but of course he was
already drafted into baseball draft. Are we gonna being a
tank for two a moment? Is it gonna be Justin Herbert?
Could it be Jake from who do you see becoming
the apple of NFL coaches eyes? During this college football season. Yeah,
I think Herbert is the easier pick. I think he
kind of has a more prototypical skill set and you know,

(24:03):
the bigger the bigger frame. I think two of though,
is that guy that's you know, more six ft six one.
Um isn't as athletic as we maybe have seen for
maybe even Mayfield or obviously Kyler Murray, but his precision,
he's got to stay healthy at his best, and we
saw a very precise passer who takes advantage of the
talent around him and really can beat defenses with his

(24:23):
mind as much as his arm. He's gonna have to
stay healthy improve that he can go through an entire season. Uh.
And I think those are gonna be your one and
two Jake from maybe a distant distant third there. But
it's gonna be a very very interesting quarterback class, very
different skill set. Thanks, Luke, you're the best man. Everyone
check him out on Twitter at Luke Easterling. Uh and
of course with the NFL Draft Wire as well, two

(24:44):
tons of college content on there as well. Luke, We'll
talk to you soon, man. Thanks for step always a pleasure,
fellow sex so guy. Luke Easterling All right rolling into
the guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios, the man Steve
di Seger. And by the time to Segar starts, will
it be final in New York? Steve, start with my Mets.
Start with my Mets. There's a lot to talk about
with the Mets in the second my playoff tickets. Yeah,

(25:07):
they're actually in contentious. I never thought i'd be saying
that in but yes, this Yankee game at after eleven
thirty Eastern time is still going. Starters. It's it's because
it's Yankees Red Sox. That's why I'm still going, but
also because there was about an hour rain delay at
the start. But anyway, the seven game losing streak, well
make it eight now because that is out number three.

(25:28):
Yankees beat the Red Sox seven four is a final.
It was seven nothing in the third inning, errand Judge
with an early solo home run. Meanwhile, those Mets, well,
not as good as the Yankees, let's just be honest,
but very good in the second half of the season.
They do actually have a fifteen and six records since
the All Star break, which is best in the Major
Since the break, they've won nine of their last ten,

(25:50):
and the week was at Pittsburgh today to two. Noah
Syndergrad with the win. The bad news Robinson Canoa, the
Mets left with a strain hamstring. If you want to
talk injuries, yet another on the injured list for the Yankees.
Outfielder Aaron Hicks went on the ile with a bad elbow. Today.
The Yankees have sixteen players on the injured list, including
yesterday's injury. Edward Karnacion, the slugger, was hit by a

(26:13):
pitch and broke his wrist. Tonight for the Yankees, infielder
gla Bar Torres left after seven innings with a possible
groin injury. The Dodgers with their ninth walk off win,
most in the majors. This wild one was eleven ten
over San Diego, getting two runs in the eighth and
two in the bottom of the ninth. Tampa Bay one
at sixth straight seven too over Miami, Minnesota and Cleveland

(26:34):
each one at home. Houston and Justin Verlander beat Seattle
again three one, and it was the Cubs over Milwaukee
again seven to two. The Patriots gave quarterback Tom Brady
an extension and includes a pay raise for this season.
The guys are back in ten seconds, but first, a
word from Farmers Farmers Insurance. We know a roof can
withstand a lot, one exception being an airborne car. Seen

(26:56):
it covered it. Dr Farmers, we are farmers on the
underwritten my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance exchanges and affiliates products
unavailable in every state. Okay, guys. So Tom Brady is
due to get twenty three million dollars this year in Boston.
David Price is making thirty one million dollars this year.
His record is seven and five. After this came to

(27:20):
like five and eleven exactly. He'll get trotted out again
this coming week. David Price. You know, you get a
guy like that. It's not like he's had a bad
career by any stretch, but you get a guy like
that and not onally win a World Series, but beat
the rival as one of the steps to winning a
World Series. This is the fifth time against the Yankees
where he's had a bad game like this. Seven earned
runs are more in five innings or less. In the

(27:43):
last hundred plus years of Major League Baseball, only one
other picture has had that many of these bad starts
against the Yankees, and that dates back to the nineteen thirties.
For crying out loud. And by the way, David Price
is still due to make thirty two million per year
for the next three years and take that. So for

(28:04):
the thousandth time, kids, if you're choosing whether to play
baseballer football, take baseball. Holy smokes. Thanks to Sager as
we Come d live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's easy to say or more with car insurance with Geico,
go to Geico dot com or call seven otto. The
only hard part is figuring out which way is easier.

(28:24):
Did you see your Shella foul two balls off his
leg during I think the sixth inning? Everyone was, oh
my gosh, it was once he got the seven nothing
I saw scored six runs with two outs. I'm like, man,
this team is horrible. The I gotta be honest with you.
I wasn't necessarily paying too much attention because I was
going over a few notes for the show, and I

(28:47):
notice he's down, and the trainer comes out and they
show the replay and he somehow fouls a ball off
his back leg, which I don't even know how it's possible,
but he fouls a ball off his back leg. His
inside me by he'd hit a home run earlier in
the game too, and then two he gets up. Everyone
collapsed kind of chair and feel a little bit better,
you know, as de Segra mentioned, they've had a lot

(29:08):
of injuries. He digs back in. Two pitches later, he
fouls one off his front knee, and he's down for
like another two or three minutes. So yeah, not a
good night for O g O at the plate. But
the Yankees doing They're showing it right now there, my gosh,
right off the back leg. And then watch two seconds
later he takes one rode off the front. But the

(29:28):
Yankees sweep and take care of business. So are you
back on the baseball train there, Arnie? With your mets,
I've never I've never jumped off. What are you talking about?
What are you talking about? Arnie? It's okay to say
that you quit on them. It's okay. You're more than
welcome to No one is standing at the Shade for

(29:49):
Shade Stadium. And you wanted me to say I quit
on my mental draw with you. Yeah, and you've happen.
You've also blown his college fund and probably you know what,
I'm still of the in it that, in some way,
shape or form, you naming him Shay had to do
with either an on air bet or you got paid
some sort of endorsement feed and ain't your kids? Or

(30:09):
maybe it could be this. I mean, think about this.
Remember everybody's calling me the kiss of death about in
some weird, bizarre way, you know, like George Costanza said
he was going to do the opposite of everything and
he started having walk How about if everything just switched on.
I'm picking it a hundred percent right. My Mets may
come back and win the World Series. Maybe this is

(30:30):
either of the Dolphins and the Giants, my Arizona Wildcats.
Maybe this is the one year that all the moons
are lined up and this is gonna be a dream
come true for me. Who knows? Well, I will say
you are off to a two and oh start season
free season picks. Your Mets have suddenly turned a corner
and better. According to at least one report out there today,

(30:53):
Brian Flores said, Josh Rosen is probably the starting quarterback.
That's what I'm hoping. Everything is starting to come up. Arnie,
you took a night off last night. Rug you had
I don't know, baby ruths or payday for lunch today
at that cash register wherever you were in the middle.
I went, I went to we went to one sub
place where the the cook of the lady that was

(31:15):
cooking our meal, the burgers, um was almost one years old.
She was I'm not kidding around. I took a picture
of her and I put on Twitter. It was it
was absolutely unbelievable. Uh well, here here's a couple of
tweets to get to get Arnie back back in the
right mindset. This one is from Eddie, who writes, I'm sorry.
This is from Duprue writes, Arnie, your Wikipedia page is

(31:36):
probably on the dark web. Yeah, I don't have a
Wikipedia page anymore. I used to have one when I
was a big radio talk show host. Now now it's
how stuff you know, I don't know. It shouldn't be gone.
How could Wikipedia get rid of something? If you don't
like it, go change and put it back up yourself.
Eddie writes, you need to post a video of the

(31:57):
stinking Saturday night fevered g enius. Yeah, like I said, once,
once foot Loose came on, immediately jumped on the dance
floor and then you know, you start dancing to the songs.
I forget that one song where everybody. I don't know
the words that this ever goes. I don't care. I
don't care. You know that one pretty with which one

(32:22):
is that? I think it's called? I don't care. Arnie.
I think you pretty much figured it out. I didn't.
I but if you put it in like a search,
I don't know which song it actually is. And then
Shady Sean rights Tonight's top story. Beth and Arnie renewed
their wedding vows after the newly wed game show tape resurfaced. No,
we weren't going. We went to somebody else's wedding, but

(32:42):
now we Yeah, we didn't renew our vows. We once
wasn't enough for me. That was it. Well, Hey, when
we come at plus, you only proposed to you once,
So you guys, you gotta run and take that when
you can't. Hey, when we come back to the Gecko
Fox Sports Radio studio, we're still kind of in oh
dare I say storyline development mode as we count down
to the start of the NFL season, and I can't

(33:05):
wait to get your take on one of the latest
developments involving, without a doubt, the biggest brand in the
NFL and their biggest Star. What's next for Zeke last Guarni,
Arni and Plank on Fox Sports Radio. It's Arnie and
Plank on Fox Sports Radio. I'm glad that Roberta noticed that.

(33:29):
As we welcome you back into the Fox Sports Radio studios,
Roberta tweets into us and says, Arnie, I just heard
you seeing I suggest you keep your day and night jobs. Wow. Yeah,
I'm not quite the singer. I have to agree with Roberta.
Ouch and Kevin. How cheap was that knockoff suit that
Spanier was wearing. It looked like a knockoff from the

(33:50):
flea market. I got that at Mazie's. What are you
talking about? Man? And those ties were like Tommy hill
finger and all that stuff. Those were expensive. Kevin, how
dare you question the fashion sense of a man who
wears shorts in the middle of December in Vermont? Let's go.

(34:10):
I think that was pretty good. I felt like that
was a shot at me. Was that very that was?
That was a little bit of Texas, a little bit
of Oklahoma state in there. That's fine, that's fine. Love
them all alright. So, Arnie, I think the biggest story
we have right now in the NFL besides our incredible
NFC South preview which is coming your way in the

(34:31):
final hour, and Howard bowlzer back next hour is Ezekiel Elliott.
And then to me, I think it presents a bigger question,
doesn't it, Not just with the Dallas Cowboys, but where
do you invest your money? Is the NFL at a
point now to where you need to invest in a
star running back? I I don't think we're in a

(34:54):
one size fits all kind of a mindset. I think
Zeke's pretty important to the Dallas Cowboys captain obvious statement
of the night, But where have you stood on this
back and forth between? And really I don't know how
much back and forth there is, aren't It seems as
if Zeke doesn't show up, he's sold nout And now
the Cowboys seem to be the one that they're trying
to kind of set the narrative in the foundation here,

(35:15):
doesn't Well, Stephen said that there's no people on the
no no players. How the Cowboys gonna get um, you know,
record breaking deals or something to that effect. I'm not
sure what that why. I do know what that means.
It means nobody's gonna break the bank. Here's what's going
to happen. And unfortunately, um, Jerry Jones uh is getting
up there in age and he wants to win, and

(35:36):
he wants to win. Now, I'm not telling you anything.
You don't know. I'm not so sure they're all aboard
on DOC. I think everybody kind of agrees with that.
They'll give Doc and they'll go ahead and have Dad
get the uh, you know, the tag, the franchise tag.
They'll give the money to Ezekiel Elliott. And I don't
think they'll be able to keep Cooper after this year
when his contracts up, so they'll get Ezekiel in um,

(35:58):
will he break girly money? Probably, they won't have much
of a choice. He's holding them hostage on this one.
But he'll get his money. You'll get the captain. Just
trying to make it look good now, cowboys are gonna
try to make it sound like, oh, we're making him suffer.
We're going back and forth there, there's a real struggle,
and then they'll get him campain about a week or
two here. And you mentioned what Stephen Jones said. I

(36:20):
thought Jerry Jones said a pretty interesting tone earlier in
the week as well. You don't have to have a
rushing champion to win a super Bowl, but I it
was the first one to do it. And that's one
of the dilemmas at running back. You can win Super
Bowls and not have the Mt Smith back there or
not have Zeke back there. Consequently, when we are looking

(36:43):
and putting Zeke's contract in place, we've got to realize
that the ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl,
and so you've got to do all of the things
along with having Zeke that allow you to have other
players so that you can win the Super Bowl. Installation,
we're not paying Zeke, right, I mean, isn't that He's
right about that. Also, I've been looking at the New

(37:04):
England Patriot. Sony Michelle was their lead rusher. He played
thirteen games, but he had less than a thousand yards,
and they really did it by running back by committee.
James White remember when cor Daryl Patterson, the wide receiver,
played ed running back, which I thought was funny and
you know a little bit of Rex burkehead. Otherwise it's
running back by committee, even though Sony Michelle gets the

(37:24):
majority of the carries. But again I see that and
I get that. But the Cowboys don't have Tom Brady.
The Cowboys don't have Bill Belichick. I mean, I just
I don't think you can say, well, the Patriots did it,
and I don't even know the starting quarterback was for
the Eagles. I don't think there's a one size fits all, Arnie.
I think with what in my and again, I could
be way off. I don't know. I'm not I'm not

(37:45):
signing the checks in Dallas. But I just think he
changes the whole mindset of that team. I'm not saying
I agree with his hold out. I think it's hold
out is bs and I'll explain why if we have
more time next hour. But I mean, come on, Arnie,
this is a different team when he's out there, right,
I mean, doesn't he make all the another if you're
investing in Dak Zeke or Mariy Cooper. I mean, listen,

(38:06):
I love the mari Cooper to death. He's too inconsistent
to be a number one receiver. Sorry Cowboy fan, but
it's down to like Dak or Zeke in that right,
We'll tell you why you shouldn't invest in Dak when
he had the second most wins in the last two years.
I believe in the NFL. Was that two years or
three years? I think it's two years. Again, I'm not
I'm not telling you you shouldn't. I'm just asking you
which way you would go, because I would want to

(38:28):
find some happy media one or the other. Only reason
I go with Zeke and give him the money is
because I could franchise tag Um Dak Prescott. You know,
hadd held out. Also, I think i'd really be in
a dom. I'm not sure what the hell I would
have done then. I mean, it's this is a byproduct
of success. This is a byproduct of of smart drafting
and smart moves. And the Cowboys will have questions. You know,

(38:51):
they tied up, and I mean this in a good way.
They tied up contractually, Tyrann Smith. They took Jerry sorry,
good and take Johnny Manzel. But go ahead, good one, Arnie.
I mean they've they've done a really smart job with
their salary cap and now they're just faced with the
byproduct of success. They have really good players. You've got

(39:14):
to decide who you're going to pay. I I don't
think they're gonna give Zeke a big contract. I don't
know if anyone is going to give Zeke a crazy contract,
but I don't know with what he's decided to do
and what Melvin Gordon has decided to do. I don't know, Arnie,
if that's the smartest one. If you're not gonna give
z the money, then you have to trade him. You're
not gonna let him sit out the year and Jerry

(39:35):
wants something in return. You're not gonna go ahead and
play chicken. So either you're going to give him the
money or you're going to trade him. But he's not
going to come into camp. And if you're gonna trade him,
you're gonna trade him somewhere that's going to sign him
long term, and you're probably you're I think, I think
you could get a pretty good haul for Ezekiel Elliott

(39:55):
right now. But is that the game the Cowboys want
to play to They they're not gonna get a Khalil
mac type all for him, but do they want to
play that game? An intriguing story. We'll go more in
depth next, plus will ask Howard Bawlzer as well too,
with Arnie and Plank right here on Fox Sports Radio
alright hour too from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.

(40:16):
Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on
car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free rate. Quote.
Are you going out to Los Angeles when when Oklahoma
loses to u c l A. Yeah, yeah, I'll be there.
I just want to chuck. Yeah, I'll be there. So
you probably have the day off that day, right, Well,
I mean it's a Saturday, so I don't usually do

(40:36):
anything but cover championship football teams on Saturday. I figure
you wouldn't want to come in on Sunday when they lose.
That's why I'm asking. Okay, Arnie, Oh, he's getting bad everybody.
Oh sorry, excuse me. Oklahoma wins every game from here
on out for the next decade. My bad. I'm sorry, Arnie. Listen.
I don't even care your picks, your your two and
oh you're two and oh and it was by a

(41:02):
lucky tip on the last play of an exhibition. What
about they're usually you have like every game for six years.
I'm pretty much used to it. I don't get mad.
I don't care you pick U c l A. It
makes me feel so much. I'm feeling so good about
that one. Also, do you even know who U c

(41:24):
l as coaches? Yeah, yeah, you don't think. I know
that Chip Kelly took over, right. I wanted to make
sure that you weren't thinking it was Terry Donahue and
Troy Aikman was gonna come in here. They're not. I
don't understand. I don't know what's going wrong, and I
think it's gonna be I think that, you know, I
paints medium say it, but I think the Pac twelve

(41:44):
is gonna be better than people are giving him credit for.
I really do. But we'll talk college football in a bit,
can I can you save your trolling for Torres? All right?
Let the millennial have it. I don't care. I'm numb
to it. So can we finish our conversation about the
Dallas Cowboy and Ezekiel Elliott? All right? I know that
you pretend that you don't know anyone on this show,

(42:06):
but one Bobbo is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, tried
and true cutt of me bleeds? What would that be?
Silver and blue? Almost rhyme? Did? But where do? Where
do we go from here? Bubbo? Because I'm ready to
kind of lay in Ezekiel Ellie a little a little
bit about this holdout. But I don't want to do
it if it's gonna make you upset. Here, I think

(42:27):
I'll join you. I'll get right behind you and repeat
everything you say. Dude, this is so pointless, like come on, man,
Like Jerry Jones has gone to bad, I'm not one
of those cowboy fans. Oh Jerry Jones, No, dude, Jerry
Jones and went to bat for Zeke like Hens consistently
he's ripped the commissioner, He's like protested like everything against him,

(42:48):
suspension and all this stuff. And then like even just recently,
what just happened at the what was that festivalty he
was at He was the one sitting there like batting
for Zeke, and Zeke goes, hey, thanks man, But I'm
not gonna come to training camp because I need more money,
Like I need more for what dude, Like come on,
Like we've literally builtfence. If it was just one year

(43:10):
left on his contract instead of tour, I think it
would have I think if I think if it was
one year, I wouldn't be as upset as right now
because like me and CHRISTI are just talking in a break.
Literally we've been building up to this, like we have
a receiver. We have the quarterback, We have the defense.
Right now, the offensive line is holding down Zeke, and
all of a sudden, you just go and I need

(43:30):
some more money. No, dude, what dude? Just bring your
butt to practice. Play this season. We can talk next season.
Do something miraculous and make us go wow that Cowboys
are really nothing without Zeke. I'm cool, but right, you
haven't done that to me, like you missed that one
that one season we missed what he missed six games

(43:51):
from that suspension. He came back. Okay, you came back. Cool.
You got shut down last season, I mean last and
we play against the Raider. I'm not the Rangers, the Raums.
You got shut down in the game that we needed
and you want more money? What if you bro? Like,
I get it. You're good, You're great. Go Zeke eat,
feed the piece all that. I'm a Cowboys fan, die hard,

(44:14):
but dude, you gotta just swallow this once and just
come on and realize that maybe this is not about it.
You're gonna win. And like the sound you played earlier
from Jerry Jones, don't sound like Jones is about to
give in. So you're wasting your time. And here here's
the thing to what Bobo said, Arenie, and I know that.
Let's see there, there's let me get my laundry list

(44:34):
of things that Arnie is always gonna hate on. There's
Tom Brady everything everything Oklahoma, um oh yeah, and the
Dallas Cowboys. But you cannot deny that this is a
season where you felt like maybe everything's finally going to
fall in line. You got Dak who's now three years in.
Zeke has established himself, I think a pretty good option

(44:57):
and running back. You go out of your trade from
Marty Cooper, Michael Gallop pretty good at times last year.
With Randall Cobb coming on board, you feel good. You've
built that offensive line, Jalen Smith is looking the part
of a franchise player on defense, your secondary start to
come together a little bit. Arnie. Seems like everything's falling
in place for the Cowboys except that one pretty major

(45:19):
key piece and that Zeke right now, that's everything. Saying
that real quick, I don't mean to cut you off,
but saying that that one major key piece. I agree
Zeke is a key piece to our offense, like he
is a key piece, but it's not to the point that, dude,
you can't do this right now, Like I'm not I'm
saying it's not even as a fan, but as a

(45:41):
fan of NFL, Like, you're doing this at the wrong time.
You have two years left in your contract. Wait a year,
do something. Let's kill it this year. Let's go out
there and run, be unstoppable. Let's see you drag four
players for ten yards to get that first out. Then
you come and you know what, remember when I did

(46:02):
that game versus such and such. You gotta you gotta
fight on your hands now as of right now, to me,
you don't have an argument to get this. You keep
getting in trouble every offseason. Jerry Jones has to keep
come saving you, like to keep coming to your defense
and saving you. And then all of a sudden, you
know what, that's staling not enough. I want more money.
You're like a spoiled child. To me, you're acting like

(46:22):
a spoiled child right now. You know, maybe he's also
thinking like this too, that hey, um, Philadelphia obviously is
their biggest competition, but no backup quarterback in case once
goes down. You're really not scared of the Redskins, and
the Giants are already or dumps the fire with their
wide receiver problems. Maybe Jerry's thinking, hey, even if we

(46:43):
have to go three, four or five games without Zeke
will be okay because who else is gonna put up
a fight against us? And they brought in Mike Weber,
who's a kid out of Ohio State. I think they
got him in the draft a little bit later, so
you're not looking at a situation to where you're gonna
be in much trouble early in the season. And I
am I giving him too much credit here. I think

(47:05):
they can take care of business. But Arnie, I get matter, Ezekiel, Ellie,
And I'm not I'm pro player, guys, I'm pro player
all the way. Get your money. I'm not ever somebody
that's going to say, oh, how dare you? You go
get paid? That's what it's all about. But Arnie, if
I consistently screw up, if I come on the air

(47:26):
and I call you by the wrong name, or I
cuts incessantly, or I call out our boss, and every
single time you go to Scott Shapiro and you're like,
Scott Planks, awesome. He don't don't worry about it. He
deserves this. I want to do a show with him.
And every time, Scott's go okay, all right, man, well
we'll keep him when that opportunity comes to where you

(47:48):
need me to have your back, and I'm kind of
I can't do it, dude, I'm out. That's what I
see in what Zeke is doing, A bad analogy that, well,
we're Zeke screwed up on the field. He really hasn't
the guys done everything they've asked them for. Off the
fields a different story that's like the field. That's like
me saying to our boss, Yeah, I know Chris's number

(48:09):
one at the network, and there's more tweets about Chris
about how much they love him than anybody else. I
understand that, but I want you to know he did
come five minutes before the show and he leaves thirty
seconds after. And the boss would say, I don't give
a damn here the most popular on Twitter. Best ability
Your best ability is your availability when you're not on

(48:31):
the field because of crap you did off the field
that directly affects your performance. Man, did you not see
where he was two years ago? Where was he suspended
when they needed him the most? Where was he almost
this year suspended? And he chooses to go away come
on now, what he does off the field absolutely has

(48:53):
affected is on the field play. And Jerry Jones went
to war with the league over him. He tried to
get your Goodell fired over a disagreement with the way
that that situation was handled, and this is how he
repays him. Come on, man, well, what do you want
him to not go for? Too bad for Ezekiel Elliott?
What do you think he'd be doing right now? If

(49:13):
Jerry didn't go too bad for him, he'd be demanding
a trade. So but what he's doing, what do you
want him to do? What do I want who to do? Jerry?
Did you want him to say we don't back Ezekiel?
Will back the commissioner on that selection? There he deserves
the six game suspension. Yeah. I think at some point,
when you have a dude that's to screw up and
it's constantly getting in trouble off the field, you quietly

(49:35):
behind the scenes go good call, good call, you got
this one right. And that didn't happen, and he went
to war with the league over him. So yeah, I
know this is gonna sound horrible, but I expect owners
to fall in line when they see their guys are
screwing up, and Jerry Jones saw it and said, you
know what, I disagree with the way that you're handling this.
You don't think Jerry Jones went to bat for Zeke.

(49:57):
Are you trying to say that? Why? What? He? What? Else? Okay?
So that must mean that Kansas City is gonna be
pretty much done with Tyreek Hill pretty soon, right because
he's a screw up too. Well, yeah, if he can,
if he gets going to be you could be as
much of a distraction as you want, depending about your
play on the field. Okay, that's the difference there, and

(50:20):
and that's why Ezekiel Elliott when he does on the field,
Jerry has no choice but to pay him. Okay, I
don't think that we're arguing the same point here, are you?
I don't know where we got disconnected here. But he's
holding out. He's purposefully not going to camp, and Jerry's
gonna got Jerry's gonna have to give him his money.
He has no choice. He's gonna have to say, Okay,

(50:41):
here's your money, come to camp. There's no choice here.
Jerry has zero choice. How much longer does he have before? Like,
what's the outcome of this Let's say Jerry doesn't give
the money. What happens? Then he holds out like Levian Bell,
I guess he has no choice. I mean, I guess
he can't trade him, then Canny Arney, I guess he
can't if he has no choice? No, no, what, Look,

(51:02):
he has to give him the money. He's not going
to trade him as he wants to win a Super Bowl,
So what are you going to do? He's getting up
there in age. If he was a younger owner, maybe
it goes to maybe it works out a little bit different.
Notice Steven doesn't want to give him the money because
he's a lot younger. He could be more patient. I
don't think Jerry could be more patient. But did we

(51:24):
hear the same cut from Jerry Jones or what do
you want him to say? Yeah, we'll open up the
bank for Ezekiel, just give us about a week or two.
What is wrong with you guys? Do you take everything
so literally from these owners? Do you not know how
bargaining works in the NFL? Is this your first rodeo? Yeah,
this is the first time. So explained to me, because
I heard a general manager and an owner that basically said,

(51:45):
we're not gonna pay a running back and down here
to tell you what they really said. So playing again
and translated because I translated for you, let me play
this for you. And then Arnie the Genius is going
to ins laid everything that Jerry Jones has to say
here about how he doesn't need a running back to
win the Super Bowl. You don't have to have a

(52:06):
rushing champion to win a super Bowl, but i it
was the first one to do it. And that's one
of the dilemmas at running back. You can win super
Bowls and not have the m Ex Means back there
or not have Zeke back there. Consequently, when we are
looking and putting Zeke's contract in place, we've got to

(52:27):
realize that the ultimate goal is to win the super Bowl,
and so you've got to do all of the things
along with having Zeke that allow you to have other
players so that you can win the super Bowl. All right,
So what did he really meant me explain to you
what he really said here? Okay, what he really says
is we want Zeke back, but I'm trying to save

(52:50):
a little bit here or there for some of the
other players. I know the money doesn't go in his pocket.
But we're going to do whatever we had to get
him back right away, and we'll obviously have to go
ahead and just you know, cave into his his demands
because we have to win a super Bowl and we
have no choice, don't want to. I've got to compare
him to Emmett Smith. But we gave Evan the money,

(53:13):
so we'll have to go ahead and give Ezekiel. But
I'll pretend like I'm being a hard ass and not
going to give them money because we really don't need him,
Like like he really believes they don't need Ezekiel Elliott
to win a super Bowl. Okay, if you believe that,
I wake up Dorothy and e MS calling it ain't happening.
That's what he's saying. We'll give you the money, just

(53:33):
give me a couple more weeks to go ahead and
pretend like I'm really being a hard ass. So what's
a couple more weeks? So Rudy, Okay, Ernie, who are
you paying? If you only can pay to cool Zeke,
that is gonna get the franchise tag. So that's how
you're gonna pay? Still Mill, Well, you gotta give somebody money,
do you not? My good but you only can give
two of the three. So who are you giving I'm

(53:54):
not giving it to Cooper, so goodbye tohead. So Cooper,
if Cooper comes, this has to get a reservation for
one please last name. Sorry, he's getting out of town.
I'm not gonna be here. Sorry. I I just okay,
What am I wrong on that? You think there's something
wrong with me? I don't know. By the way I'm
looking at my col You're never wrong, aren't So go ahead?

(54:17):
Zico elliotts by Monday. Uh can I bet you on that?
You want to bet on it? Yeah? Yeah? Aren't you
want to bet your job on that? One? Not? Not?
I know I want something and I know he's going
to pay. I want money. Yeah, help be in camp Monday.

(54:38):
The nineteen hit my word on that. Why would a
running back hold out for two weeks? Six? But I'm
saying more than nineteen? All right? When we come back
to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studio, Howard Bolzer will
join us to get some perspective. Maybe Howard could explain
it to yeah, because I mean, obviously I need help
with it because I'm clueless. That's next here with Arnian

(55:01):
Plank on Fox Sports Radio Arnie and Plank Fox Sports
Radio on Twitter at Stinking Genius want him Plank Show,
We'll get back to it coming up in just a bit.
Joining us right now is Howard Bowlzer uh just one
of the best when it comes to cover in the
league with the Sports Exchange at h Bowlzer seven twenty
one on Twitter. All right, here's the debate we're having,
Howard and help us understand it. Arnie thinks that all

(55:23):
of the off the field issues that Zeke has had
won't affect Jerry Jones decision making. I think Jerry Jones
is angry because he stood up for Zeke and now
he's holding out, and so he he'll be hesitant to
give him a deal. Where do you stand right now
on this hold out? Which is the biggest story I
think going in the NFL right now. Yeah, it's one

(55:44):
of the bigger ones. I'll say this. I think there's
a little bit of truth on both sides that I
think that that the Jones is not pleased that after
supporting Elliott so strongly on with what's the things that
happened to him, that now he's holding out. But at
the end of the day, I think that's he's gonna do.

(56:06):
I mean, he's gonna try to get a good deal
because he knows how important that this guy is to
the team. Now, I think the biggest issue is that
they also have Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper to take
care of and they're going to be without a contract
free agents after this season, and Elliott has two years
left on his deal, and so I think I think
those are the issues more than him being a little

(56:28):
upset with that, because, like I said, even though he
comes out and says you don't need a rushing champion
to win a championship, he he obviously deep down knows
the importance to Zekil Elliott to that offense. Yeah, and
thank you Howard. You know that's like saying I don't
need to have a car to go to work. I
could walk the thirty miles. Yeah, you could walk the

(56:49):
thirty miles, but to be a lot easier to go
ahead and have a car. And that's what's gonna happen.
Jerry's getting too old. He can't start from scratch. He
knows if he doesn't give him the money, Um, the
he really he's gonna lose a really all chance of
winning a Super bowl. Uh, he's got to get the money.
Then more about that later on. So I I expect
Ezekiel Elliot I should be in camp in the next

(57:11):
two to three weeks. I don't think it's gonna take
all that long. Well we'll see, well, you know, we'll
see on there. And I think one thing too, this
I think is happening with the Cowboys and the Chargers
for that matter, with Melvin Gordon, is they've both seen
what happened with Todd Gurley and the Rams. The Rams
gave him the money. That that position is a unique
one obviously, but you know, the the Rams gave Gurley

(57:35):
all that money and the guaranteed money before his contract
was up. And now you know, they keep saying everything's
fine with Hodd Gurley, everything's fine now and all that.
But you know, be that as it may. The fact
is that he wasn't available at his at his best
when the when the Rams needed him the most. And

(57:55):
so there's that fear that with a running back, it
doesn't make sense so early in the deal to give
a guy as much money as as they want, or
similar to what Girly got with the Rams. I've said
constantly on this Howard that one size fits also. I'm
just I guess I'm confused even by the narrative on
this show tonight, because an hour ago I was told

(58:17):
that you don't need a running back because the Patriots
have never had a star running back. Now it's suddenly,
you do, where are we right now in the NFL?
Do you need a go to back? Do you need
running back? By a committee? What is it that team's
because I'm of the opinion it's not necessarily one size
fits all each offense. Could I mean, look, John Gruden
went out and drafted Josh Jacobs in the first round
this year. He feels like he needs that back well exactly,

(58:40):
and I think that if the back is there, it's
great to have that back. I think you have to
have a productive running game within your offense. However you
do it. The ideal now, if you can have that
one guy, that's great. But the flip side to that
is how much do you run them? How much? What
do they get warned down? How much? You know? That's

(59:01):
that's that whole issue that we saw with Girlie. But
the production is what's most important. And everyone tries sometimes
to say, oh, well, okay, the Patriots. That's an example
where they don't have, you know, a big time running
backer or a big time running attack. But I'll tell
you they're they've been better when they have had a

(59:22):
good running back over the years. And so, but you
can't just pick out one team and say, okay, well,
that destroys the argument that there's all that. You know,
there's there's always exceptions to the rule, but the bottom
line is you need and you know what, but we
know what the funny thing is. I know that it
was years ago, but the Cowboys had a guy that

(59:43):
kind of did pretty well for them and ended up
being the league's all time leading rusher in Emmett Smith.
And so that that that shows so so again it
doesn't have to be the one guy, but it better
be productive. But the guys that Cowboys have now obviously
they're not out Ezekiel Elliott are not going to be
able to get it done. And we saw when when

(01:00:06):
when he missed some games a couple of years ago
under the suspension, and what happened you know the Cowboys,
I think there were three and three in the games
he missed, and then he really wasn't totally himself during
these some of those other games because of the whole
issue and the distractions and what was going to happen
and all those things. So, like I said, it is
important to have that balance on offense, so defenses can't

(01:00:31):
just load up on one thing. And what the Patriots do, though,
quite frankly and a lot of times, is they'll use
the running backs as an extension of the running game,
even though they're catching passes our You know, I don't
even want to ask you if you're all in on
the Cleveland Browns, if you're biden into what they're gonna
do this year. I want to take it a step further.
Don't give me the all they'll be better. You just

(01:00:54):
tell me. Will they win that a f C North,
they're the favorites. Are they better than Pittsburgh? Are they
better than Baltimore? And if they went? And how far
is this team gonna go? Are we just are we
just rushing the judgment with these guys. I think there's
a little rush to judgment. But there's no question that
this is a very very talented roster right now. And
when you look at the other teams, as you just mentioned,

(01:01:15):
Pittsburgh gonna have an doesn't have Antonio Brown, they have
some flaws. Baltimore has lost a lot of really good
players on defense, and we know about Cincinnati and so
I I think I think the Browns are definitely at
that point where they could win this division and then
once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen. Now, are they,

(01:01:36):
you know, experienced enough and postseason and all that that.
Obviously they don't have a lot of players who have
that postseason experience, so could that hurt them? It potentially could.
But the a f C overall, you know, they have
really good teams in Kansas City and the Charges. Obviously
the Patriots you have to figure always gonna be there.
So if you lose, if you lose the postseason game
to a really good team, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

(01:01:59):
But uh, the key to me with that team is, hey,
how will Freddie Kitchens be as a head coach? And
can they live up to their own hype? And we've
seen that before, the popular team, the hype team, for
whatever reason, doesn't live up to those expectations. That's impossible
to predict right now, but I think they're certainly talented

(01:02:21):
enough to be able to do that. Hey, Howard before
we let you go. It's been a heavy weekend in
the NFL. We obviously lost the great Cliff Branch to
a heart attack the other night. And I know one
of your buddies, one of your longtime friends, Don Banks. Uh.
I'm incredibly sorry for your loss, Howard. But what an
incredible person and an incredible writer and an incredible fan

(01:02:42):
of this game, wasn't he? He definitely was. And what's
what's really like striking about that is that I just
saw him yesterday and talk to him in the press
box at the at the enshrinement ceremony, and we chatted briefly,
and he was and I overheard the conversation he's having
with someone else about so I'm so excited about the

(01:03:02):
new job he had with the Las Vegas newspaper. And
and then the all of a sudden to find us out.
It's just totally darning. You just take your hand. You
can't believe it. You say, no, this can't be true.
And then the eerie thing is that both Cliff Branch
and Don Banks on Hall of Fame weekend and Don
in Canton, are you know what happens in their hotel room.

(01:03:25):
It's just it's just very very very strange, very sad,
and and you obviously feel for for for the loss
that he had and of course obviously his family. We
appreciate it. Howard, thank you so much for your time
on what I'm sure was a heavy weekend for you,
and we always love your perspective. Man, have a great nights.
Talk to you soon. Okay, guys, appreciate it. Take care,

(01:03:45):
Howard Balls are a living legend. And around about Don Banks,
aren't you changed your argument? I literally was sitting here
telling you. You start the segment with well the Patriots
have done at the Patriots have done and then two
seconds later you're like, well, Jerry can't live without it.
I mean, what the hell is going on here? What
are you talking? You sound confused. I'm even looking at

(01:04:08):
some of some of the tweets and saying, Eddie says,
I'm sensing some Fox Sports Radio a tension tonight, cowboy
topic or smell of massacre. Listen as we come to
you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. There's
a quick and easy way you could save money switched
to Geico. It only takes fifteen minutes to see if
you could say fifteen or more on car insurance. Go
to Geico dot comm and see how much you could say.

(01:04:30):
I'm not confused. I very clearly know what we've been
debating you at Oh, I don't. I don't know if
you need a running back to Patriots haven't done it.
I fought four that two seconds later, I just brought
that up, that the Patriots didn't have to do it.
But I told you that the Cowboys were gonna sign him.
Did I not did whether I stuttering when I said that, No, No,
you weren't. You didn't say it until after you had

(01:04:54):
changed your mind. It was changed in my mind. Gosh,
all right, Steve to say, is in the house to
save me? I'm either going to have a heart attack
in the middle of this show. I think it's beyond
ask any other cohor By the way, I looked up
the Cleveland Browns season. If they just went eight and
eight this year, it would be the breast Brown season

(01:05:15):
of over a decade, because it's been almost twenty five
years since the Browns, the original Browns moved out of
Cleveland to become the Baltimore Ravens. Since they've gotten NFL
football back in Cleveland, not only no playoff wins, but
almost always a losing record. But do you remember they
did have one playoff game, Butch Davis was head coach
two thousand two. They lost a close one in the

(01:05:36):
cold at Pittsburgh against Tommy Maddox and the Steelers. I
looked it up thirty six thirty three and the Browns
quarterback was throwing four hundred yards in the playoff game,
Kelly from Illinois. Unbelievable quarterback. These Browns do actually have
one playoff appearance, just the one since they got NFL

(01:05:59):
football back. Well. The Boston Red Sox have lost eight
games in a row. The Yankees beat him in New
York tonight seven to four. Aaron Judge with an early
solo homer. David Price took the loss. He trailed seven
nothing in the third inning. Tampa Bay won a sixth
game in a row, seven too over Miami. The Dodgers
were eleven ten winners against San Diego, beating closer Kirby
Yates not only two runs in the eights too in

(01:06:21):
the bottom of the ninth, their ninth walk off win
of the year. It was an incredible ending and Max Munter,
who had the game winning two run double went four
for five. The Cubs are game and a half over St.
Louis for first place in the NL Central. Cubs beat
Milwaukee against seven to while the Cardinals lost at Oakland
again four to two. Cincinnati homer in the top of
the tenth and won six four at Atlanta, beating the

(01:06:42):
New Braves closer Shane greenex of Detroit, Minnesota and Cleveland
each one at home. Houston and justin Verland are get
a three one win over Seattle. The Patriots gave quarterback
Tom Brady an extension. It includes a pay raise for
this season. Jacksonville pass rusher Yannick and guck Way ended
his holdout, reporting to camp he's entering the final year
of his rookie deal. Chase Elliott won the NASCAR race,

(01:07:04):
said Watkins, Glen the golf winner at the Windham j
T posting thanks to a sixty two in the final round.
Back to the show in ten seconds, But first, a
word from farmers that Farmers insurance. We know a roof
can withstand a lot. One exception being an airborne car.
I've seen it, covered it. Dr Farmers, we are Farmers

(01:07:24):
underwritten my Farmers truck fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products
not available every state. An oddity in sports. Major League Baseball. Well,
last night the Nationals got blown out, so they used
two different position players to pitch at Arizona. Those two
guys both homered today, So, needless to say, the first
teammates in the modern era to homer in the same
game after both pitching in the same game the day before.

(01:07:47):
And Arnie, when you were not here last night, something
that had never happened in Major League base of course,
all on one night there was a no hitter, another
guy had a fifteen strikeout game, and another hit three
homers in a game else and cruise of the Twins,
all three on the same night. Wait wait, I just
want to make sure you said there's two pictures that
pitch that hit home runs the next day. Well, they're

(01:08:09):
non pictures. That's why they were batting the next So
I understand that. Why what about somebody like Babe Ruth
No to to team that's one okay with somebody work
with me. Oh my gosh, unless you're going to No,
it's not happening. Okay, Okay, we're coming to a lot.
And I told I told you, I'm telling you what

(01:08:31):
I'm going to have a brain explode on the show
all night. We're a coming to Alive from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say or more
on car insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot com
or call seven Auto. The only hard part is figuring
out which way is easier. And as we mentioned, Sager
will be back coming up here in just a bit. Yeah,
and by the way, Howard Bowlser is a really good

(01:08:51):
follow on Twitter at h Bowlser seven to one. I
hope we'll get a chance to talk to him more
during the season. Arnie, I didn't know Don Banks. I
was really excited because that's horrible. Yeah, I had read
his work for a long time. I was excited he
was gonna be on the Raiders beat. As Howard mentioned,
he had just taken a job in the Las Vegas

(01:09:11):
Review Journal. And just a tragic weekend, lose both Heat
and Cliff Branch Raider players. Today we're wearing number twenty one, Jersey's.
Cliff Branch had a very special relationship with Raiders. Raiders
owner Mark Davis. So pretty pretty tough weekend in general
for the NFL. And then, of course, not to mention
what's going on in our country right now? So heavy

(01:09:32):
hearts man all the way around. Just a crazy weekend
looking on Twitter and a lot of people that happened
to be at the Hall of Fame game, like Howard
Um mentioned how they all spoke to Don and you know,
just he was very happy that he was getting his
dream job. I guess at the Las Vegas A Journal
and you know, there was nothing weird or and he

(01:09:54):
didn't look like he was sick or anything. And then
you know, you see this and you're like, wow, how
horrible is that? I mean just absolutely stunning, and you
know everybody was on Twitter talking about it, and um,
just it's just a horrible situation. Then there's fifty six,
fifty six years old, I mean, way way to That's scary,
isn't it. We got our NFC South preview coming up

(01:10:17):
here in just a bit, and we should add. I
don't know how you feel, Larnie, but at some point
tonight I do want to try to slide in a
little college football talk beyond just you telling me Oklahoma's
gonna lose everything that's Cougars. I'm sorry because teasing go
ahead again, Beyond you telling me Oklahoma is going to
lose every game. Can we have a legitimate conversation about

(01:10:40):
it already? You just want to pick South Dakota and
I'm gonna chuck you up for a sweet will finish,
can't wait? Um, But no, I'm intrigued by the polls
coming out. But more than anything, there's a debate that's
going around that has kind of taken over college football

(01:11:03):
circles about whether or not Clemson in Alabama is bad
for football. Say, coming into this year, and Chris, you
and I have been doing the show a long time now.
Whether it's our six football season or seventh, I don't
even know anymore, um, and we always get pumped up
for college football. To you, I mean, you're the sideline
guy for Oklahoma. Even before you took that job, um,

(01:11:24):
and you worked at another station. You you were the
Oklahoma guy, the college football guy, no doubt about that.
This is the first time in all the years we've
been doing the show. I just don't And I love
college football like you, I just don't feel that energy
because I feel like it's Alabam mcclemson going to be
in the I'm not even thinking about the four teams
I'm just thinking about the dude teams. And what's kind

(01:11:45):
of crazy about it is the team that's entered the
four team playoff number one has never won the play right,
and and Clemson and Alabama have played now in what
four straight years, but it's not always in the final.
A couple of time times it's been in a semi fright,
But I think you're right. I mean, unless Syracuse can

(01:12:05):
knock off Clemson and anymore with these two teams, you
gotta beat him twice, right, because if Alabama loses once
and then still beats Georgia in the SEC Championship game,
well they're going to the playoff. And if Clemson loses
to say Syracuse in the regular season, well that probably
would be their only loss and they'd win the a
SEC Championship game and still probably end up in the

(01:12:28):
four team playoffs. So you can't as a college football fan.
That's that's harping for change, even say, oh, just beat
him and it'll be over. No, you gotta beat him
twice to keep these guys out exactly. And even if
you beat him twice so they somehow get to go
to the SEC Championship, forget about it. Well, and it's
graduations to Alabama. Um, I love the way they do

(01:12:51):
what they do. Schedule tough, and I'm surprised they got
to stayed on the schedule that I just want to
give m a lot of credit for that that but
had take a lot of a lot of strings to
pull that they're able to get New Mexico and and
to come down the Tusco. So that that's gotta been
real pop. Yeah, I know right. I don't think they
actually have a true road game in nonconference play until

(01:13:15):
because they're playing they're playing these kickoff classics, which are
kind of interesting because they are neutral sites. But I
I don't think their first true road game and nonconference
play is until they go to Austin to take on
Texas in two. So, uh, think about that when you
come around to scheduling and how Nick saban Hiss handled things.

(01:13:35):
But here's the question that I have for you, and
I want you to ponder this as we go to
break and I'd love to get some of your tweets
on it as well too, at Stinking Genius One at
Plank Show as well. So if we're in this mindset
that Clemson and Alabama is not healthy for college football
because it's too top heavy. And I know you've already

(01:13:55):
got Arizona in one of these slots. Then what would
be think about what would be then the healthiest final
four for college All right, well, well let's just subtract
the Arizona, UM, Clemson, Alabama. UM, probably end up picking Michigan.
So there's three. Is it too obvious to say, Well,
you put in Notre Dame and that'd be a killer

(01:14:18):
for UM that people would love. Oklahoma would be a
killer for I'm not so sure Ohio State. UM, you
know what ratings wise, but I think people would enjoy that. Um,
that's about it. I think that'd be the dreams And okay,
well I want to go. But we're hearing people say
that they're tired of seeing Clemson Alabama. But you're saying,

(01:14:40):
oh no, no, no, deal with it. Healthy. You have
a choice, Arnie. This is make believe world. Uh, this
isn't gonna be held against you. You're not putting your
your kids when you're picking. Everything is healthy. I understand.
I understand when you're two and oh, you're not a hunter.
You're two and oh, so do you think about beyond
the Clemson Alabama the domination. If we start from zero

(01:15:02):
and wipe the slate clean, what's the I was final four.
I will tell you this. If we wipe the slate clean,
and even if I didn't put let's say Alabama Clemson
in UM, having a team like a Central Florida or
something like that is not going to do it. It's
not going to move the needles. People are not gonna go, Yes,

(01:15:23):
we've got an underdog. This is great. UM, you know,
count such a a little such a Florida pull it
off or some garbage like that. I I don't think
that's a good one. So I don't buy into that. UM.
But I think it has to be Clemson. Alabama is
the most popular teams right now, so especially Alabama, I
think they do have to be in it for people
to be excited. When we come back to the guy

(01:15:44):
called Fox Sports Radio Studios to Saga will give us
his take on it. We'll roll through that and get
you ready for our NFC South preview next with Arnie
and Plank on Fox Sports Radio. Aarnian Plank on Fox
Sports Radio. He's Arnie Spaniard, I'm Chris Plank, coming up
next to our our NFC South preview. But I want
to get to this tweet real quick before to Sega rolls,

(01:16:05):
and it's just from Jack Lost, the best tweet we've
ever gotten in our life. But here's the point. Well,
I'm not I'm not saying the Cowboys don't need to pay.
They're not going to all right, here we go, ah,
He writes. Zeke is the most important part of Dallas's offense,
which is what I said, and Jared can't replace him,

(01:16:26):
so he gets paid. That's why I disagree. Careful talking
to OKI's or Cowboy fans. They suffer from delusions of
championship grandeur. Treat them like a drunk and don't argue.
I'm gonna live my wife like that from now on. Bravo.
That's a model. That's a I have something to say
about that, but I'm going to wait until next segment

(01:16:47):
because I don't want to take any that should be
a bug a bumper sticker that says, treat him like
a drunk and don't argue. I love that. Can I
just move on from this? I think this is a
it's a it's almost like their apps. That's got to
be like an Arnie Burner account. To just feed the beast.
We'll go back to the cranium. Exploding comments dumb. The

(01:17:11):
NFL preseason opens for most teams Thursday night this week.
That's when most of the games for preseason Week one are,
including Giants Jets. There are two games Friday night and
three on Saturday night, including Rams at Raiders. Things finally
get going. Don't get too excited. These are exhibitions people,
But yes, football is finally upon us. We had the
Hall of Fame game, not really because we don't have

(01:17:35):
the regular drivers in these games. Thursday's Hall of Fame
game got great ratings in Denver, but not nationwide. In fact,
five point three million viewers. It's the least watched Hall
of Fame game in about twenty years. Context, though football
is still king in this country. We have to say
it once, we have to say it a thousand times.

(01:17:55):
It's still Look at the ratings for all the TV
shows Thursday night. It was still by far the best,
five point three million for exhibition football, three point three
million for the Steph Curry miniature golf show, Holy Moly,
and three point three million for Master Chef. So football
was still way ahead of the games seen it the
Boston Red Sox. Last year, we're head and shoulders above everybody.

(01:18:18):
It was their year and they won the World Series.
To say the least, they're not winning the East this year.
Eight straight losses after losing it, new yourself, He's going
to pitch again this week, guarantee it. Boston is not
even close to the wild card now. Thanks to this
losing streak. There's six and a half games back of
Tampa Bay for the last wild card spot. I mean,

(01:18:40):
Oakland's only a half game back for the last wild
card spot. Just to put that in context of how
bad it has been and Houston continues to win. There
are three elite teams, not the only three that can
win the World Series. Dodgers, Yankees and Houston Mets. The well,
the Mets have been hot second half. Let's not go
over the Key's overall are now seventy two and thirty nine.

(01:19:02):
For crying out loud after the win tonight, the Dodgers
after the walk off win seventy four and forty. Houston
is seventy three and forty. Houston gotta win from Justin Verlander.
He's won fifteen games already this year. He's leading the
league in wins in the r A. Houston beat Seattle
again in fact this weekend to heild the Mariners without
a hit in fifteen straight innings. At one point, they

(01:19:24):
beat him three one eventually. Today, head to head, Houston
is twelve and one against the Mariners this season, including
the combined no hitter last night, and Houston again it's
against its own division has played fifty games against the West,
thirty eight and twelve. I repeat that there is a
bet in Vegas. Do you think the winner of this

(01:19:45):
year's World Series will be Houston Dodgers or Yankees? Or
you can take the field. Give me the field, Matton.
I'd probably have to take that Houston Dodgers Yankees bat
right now. I'm just saying, aren't you take the field?
Are you take the mats? I'll take the field. Excuse me,
my three teams? Anyway, I screwed up your bed. Thanks
to Seger. We'll talk to you more coming up here,

(01:20:06):
and just a bit, he'll have everything from the world
of sports, including that Sunday Night Baseball recap coming up
here in just a bit. NFC South next hour on Fox.
All right, it's our final hour, our final hour. Let's
go Getico, Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save
you or more on car Insurance Sports, all you have

(01:20:26):
to do is visit dot com quote a lot of
stuff to get to, a lot of stuff to get
to on the show, and we only have about fifty
nine minutes to get coming up this hour. Um yeah,
I'm also one in the preseason, Artie, and we'll stick
with you forever. Keep fighting and don't let the wagon

(01:20:47):
lever drag you down. Hashtag preseason. That's from someone who
has a Nebraska logo. So bless your hearts. I feel
so bad for them. I feel so because here's what's
sad about Nebraska fan right now, Arenie. They're getting their
hopes so built up, They're getting all excited, and they're

(01:21:11):
just gonna stink. I mean it's no, They're not gonna
stink this year, are they? Bless your heart for trying
to build him up. He says. One thing nice, There
are two teams ranked in the top twenty five that
have no business being in there. One of them is
you CEF. The other one is Nebraska. It's you guys
are getting all excited and then you're gonna lose about

(01:21:31):
six more games. This year, but we played so great
down the stretch last year. Don't disagree me. I mean
if I pick, if I pick one team to put
up a good game against you, you jumped out my throat.
You're just telling me Nebraska's things. Arnie. Think about it
for a little bit. You're a smart guy, I think.
Do you pick one team to do well against Oklahoma? No?

(01:21:55):
You pick every team to beat them. By the way,
you know, we will find out who is a better
team this year between Arizona and Oklahoma. Right, are you
going to use some sort of deduction between how you
do against Tech and how we do against Tech or exactly? Yeah,
since you guys been ducking us. Of course, that's the
way I can do it. Bless your heart. Now, can

(01:22:20):
we do an nfcver? Is? If Arizona ever played Oklahoma
and football or basketball? Um, you and I would be
at war this it would be It would be ugly. No,
we wouldn't be at war because you don't care. You're
not a real fan because when you lose, it's just like, ah,
we lost, We're the worst ever. You don't care. You

(01:22:40):
really don't. You don't live and die with it. Fetal position.
I don't even think you do that. I really don't.
I just I think you automatically find someone else and
their team pick on them to pick on right, It's
it's very much um you're you're just a troll, is
the best way that I can put it. Um. So anyway, Yeah,

(01:23:02):
that those are the two best tweets of the night,
the only two we can find to agree with you.
So can we do the NFC South? There is all right?
So every week since the last four or five weeks
we've been starting to count down to the start of
the NFL season, we've took it. We've taken each division
week by week. I think we started with what the
a f C East, and we hit the NFC East.

(01:23:22):
We went with the a f C South last week,
and now we're at the NFC South, Arnie, real quick.
We can go back. We can go back because bottom line,
we're allowed to kind of massage this a little bit
as we go throughout our predictions and our previous because
things happen, things take place whenever we're rolling through. These

(01:23:47):
guys get injured, guys might get traded. So going back
on the a f C East, the NFC East are
the a f C South. Is there anything that's caught
your eye that might make you change anything we've talked
about in the previous three weeks. Uh, Well, in the
a f C East, Um, I really do have concerns

(01:24:09):
about the Patriots, But um, there's nothing that have broken
in the last week or so. We knew they were
gonna have trouble. Wide receiver Gordon um is applied for reinstatement.
We'll see how that one goes. They have the rights
to him. They need another wide receiver. I'm just getting
a bad feeling about the Patriots, not that they might
not win the division, but that it could be a

(01:24:31):
game separation with like maybe the New York Jets or
something like that. So I'm not all in on the Patriots,
but they do kind of winnip by default. Okay, fair enough, then,
even though you have built it up as being a
much tougher division this year, do you just change your
mind consistently the one game separation? What more do you
want me to say than that, All right, let's hit

(01:24:52):
the NFC South. Then, now that we've had our chance
to kind of fine tune some things from the Getico
Fox Sports Radio Studios, Uh, New Orleans Tampa, Carolina, Atlanta.
Last year it was New Orleans and everybody else. So
where would you like to start, Arnie? Do you just
want to start with the Falcons? Well? I was gonna
just say one thing about the division last year before

(01:25:12):
we start what we think is gonna be this year?
Where the Saints really as good as the thirteen and
three record that they had, or was it the fact
that Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa none of them were in the
plus when it came to points given up against points scored?
So it kind of made it an easy division. Yeah,
we always think of it as a hard division and
a balanced division, but that wasn't the case last year.

(01:25:34):
So did the Saints really benefit that the other three
teams didn't play well? But I was surprised that Atlanta
had that much of a crappy year. Maybe there's gonna
be a market and just adjustment this year. But I
still think the Saints WINNA. But go ahead, you know what.
I hate to do this, I really do, because it's
gonna ruin the whole function of the show. To Yes,
I agree with you, I agree on that. I don't

(01:25:56):
know if you know Atlanta got beat up last year
in e wise, Tampa Bay was the toast of the
NFL throughout the first three or four weeks of the season,
and oh my gosh, Carolina started out six and two
last year and then everything fell apart due to injuries
or maybe the rest of the league catching up to
a team like Tampa a bit. But I'm with Yarnie,

(01:26:16):
which makes it so hard to kind of handicap last season.
And add to it, New Orleans has been knocked out
of the playoffs on the final play of the game
in each of the last two years. So challenging enough. Well,
let's let's start then with Atlanta seven and nine last
year as strong of an offensive corps and football with
Matt Ryan, Julio Jones. If Dafante Freeman is back, we'll see.

(01:26:39):
And now they add Calvin Ridley to the mix. But
I was blown away when I saw this stat. Dan
Quinn has a whole new coaching staff this year. They
become the first team to keep its head coach but
fire all three coordinators since nineteen eighty nine when Ron
Meyer did it in Indianapolis. You've got Cutter now that's

(01:27:00):
taking care of the offense. They've got a new defensive
coordinator he Morris is still around. They've got a lot
of changes that have taken place in Atlanta. But is
it really all about this team trying to get healthy
to get back on track this year? Annie, I would
think so, because when you look at them and I
know who is at Luke that said that Luke eas
doing who We had an hour one that he'd put
up Tampa's receiver against anybody's. Are there slew of receivers?

(01:27:24):
I'm not so sure that you wouldn't put Atlanta in that.
I mean, they've got a great set of receivers, great
three receivers. Uh, look, Matt Ryan's going to carry this team.
The guy's got to pick it up. I mean, we
went to the Super Bowl a couple of years back.
They let that one slip through their figures and it's
like been downhill ever since that game. Um, we'll see
how good that defense is. But offensively, I like this team, Chris,

(01:27:46):
I do too. I do too. And keep in mind,
I know two thousand and eighteen was frustrating. I think
two thousand and seventeen was pretty frustrating for this team
to seeing that they could have easily beaten Philadelphia. You know,
they had an opportunity to and just couldn't. Julio Jones
couldn't make a play on a tough pass near the
end of the game. They lost eight what you could

(01:28:07):
consider major difference makers that were on I R by
the end of the season. And it seems as if
they shored up the offensive line. Matt Ryan sacked forty
two times last year. And their schedule is a brutal
to start the season at Minnesota Philadelphia, at the Colts Titans,
and at the Texans um four of those teams made

(01:28:30):
the playoffs with three of those teams and certainly the
Titans were nine and seven, so uh, not a good
way that And then at Arizona too, didn't even feel
that and plus the Rams, so it's really tough. Yeah,
and don't forget or any they lost the Hall of
Fame games, so they said a bad tone for the season.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Atlanta seven and nine last year.
We'll talk about their over under coming up here in

(01:28:52):
just a bit for wins ARNI, let's move on staying
in alphabetical order here to keep things fair. Carolina seven
and nine this year? Is this as simple as asking
how healthy will Cam Newton be They changed his throwing
motion last year. The term they used was to make
it more precise. He ended up having shoulder surgery in
January and it was called a significant clean out. But

(01:29:15):
that's his second surgery in less than three years. Right now.
Concern on Cam and of course there's concerned here. I
mean the way they started the year last year. If
you were a Carolina fan, you're pumped. You're thinking, we're
six and two, we'll fight it out with the Saints,
will go to the playoffs. Um, everything is looking real good.

(01:29:36):
And then next thing you know, uh, you're bottoming out.
You're not even winning the division. And Cam is is
not Cam. So Um, which team you're gonna get? The
team that was six and two or the team that
just bombed at the end of the year. That obviously
that's the captain. Obvious question. They got McCaffrey, so he's
gonna run and catch and do everything he can. They

(01:29:57):
overused him last year. They'll probably do the same thing
this year. Not sold though on their wide receiver corps.
Uh more other Samuel Um not not crazy about it
at all. I think they have to do something about
that to give more offensive weapons to camp. Greg Olsen
has gotta stay healthy for him. Very unique schedule, how
about this. They opened up with the Rams and the Bucks,

(01:30:19):
and then they go on the road for back to
back games with Arizona and the Texans, and then they
they altered a basically home road, home road the rest
of the year. So after playing back to back road
games on September twenty and September twenty nine, Arnie, they
don't play back to back road games the rest of
the year. So kind of a nice little schedule break
for Carolina. And let's not forget what the Panthers you

(01:30:41):
brought up protecting mccath McCaffrey. They have to get better defensively,
getting after the quarterback. Last year they were twenty seven
in sacks. They were in the top six in sacks
from two thousand and fifteen to two thousand and seventeen.
They drafted Brian Burns out of Florida State. They brought
in Bruce Servant, and oh yeah, they signed Gerald McCoy
after he was cut by Tampa Bay. All right, let's

(01:31:04):
move to the Champs New Orleans thirteen and three. Eighteen
of the twenty two players who started the NFC championship
game or back, including eight of the ten Pro bowlers
over the last two years. Is this just a matter, Arnie,
of finally getting over the hump keeping the core together,
or will they start to show their age a little bit? No,
I don't think they're gonna show their age. Uh. It's

(01:31:25):
gonna be a little bit tougher for them this time around,
but they'll still go ahead and win the division. Um.
You know Drew Brees, didn't people think, oh, you know,
he had a little bit of it down here. I
thought Drew Brees had a great year. Um. I thought
he had a pretty damn good year. So I think
he'll be back on track. Obviously, when you have Kimara, Um,
this team is loaded offensively, you don't have to go

(01:31:46):
through all the weapons that their their defense though, we'll
decide if they go to the super Bowl or not. Um,
do they have a super Bowl type defense? And how
easy is it gonna be to win that division? We'll see.
We'll find out. They'll have to get one of the
two spots to get the bye week like the Patriots get.
But this team, I think is what the second favorite.
I believe to go to the super Bowl, and I

(01:32:07):
don't blame them. It is interesting though, because I I
had the stats for this UM. There was a lot
of talk about Drew Brees seemed to struggle down the stretch.
I don't know where that. I'm not really seen that,
you know, he had. He had maybe a couple of
games where his completion percentage was below hold up seventy,

(01:32:30):
that's really about it. He didn't play all that well
in their Giants game in New York. But I mean,
I didn't really see much of a struggle unless you're
just looking at one drive against the Rams where he
threw an interception in overtime, if you're gonna hold that
against him, right, But it's he throw five picks all
season long, five all season long. I don't I don't

(01:32:54):
know where that narrative came from, or at least anyone
who asked concerns over what they've described as late season
strug Now, there might be a Saints fan who's losing
their mind right now saying, oh, you gotta pay mean
that that lost at Tampa Bay was ridiculous, and I
know we're going way back that lost Pittsburgh late in
the year, or that that went over Pittsburgh. It took
him too long to get going. I don't know if

(01:33:15):
you want to nitpick or anything of that nature. I mean,
four of his five interceptions did come down the stretch
of the season, So again, if you want to nitpick,
that's fine. But Arnie, I thought he's pretty awesome throughout
the year. So I have no concerns over Drew Brees
at all in the incredible job of Dennis Allen and
their breakout play of Cam Jordan over the last few years,
which gets us to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and I

(01:33:37):
think now we're on about our fourth quarterback that we've
talked about and our four division breakdowns. Who is having
a prove it year? And of course that falls under
Jamis Winston who Bruce Arians. I love this When asked
how he's going to help Jamis Winston, he said, we're
going to set the balance with the running game and
we're gonna try not to fall behind by twenty points.
I thought that was fantastic. But are you buying Jamis

(01:33:59):
this year? I mind, because he does have weapons, I
receiver and obviously O. J. Howard and you heard Luke
bring up Cameron Braid, So yeah, they've got players. Um
you know, I want to see how the running game
is gonna be. But again, once again, the defense, especially
in the division like that where everybody's putting up points
left and right and plus house, Bruce arians going to

(01:34:20):
do um. You know, I thought he did a pretty
good job in Arizona. But this is kind of like
a similar situation because you know, Tampa comes in with
that same you know, they don't have a pedigree kind
of like the way Arizona did, even though they did
go to you know, one Super Bowl. I'm not so
sure he's gonna be successful right off the bat. There

(01:34:40):
might be some growing pains here. I'm not so sure
Tampa is gonna have a good year this year. First
round pick Devin White will be charged with taking over
the leadership of the defense under Todd Bowls. Tampa was
third in total offense last year, but they haven't made
the playoffs since two thousand seven. Wow, two dozen in
seven for Tampa Bay. All right, when we come back

(01:35:03):
to the guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios, let's dive
into an over under and buy our sell on a
busy Sunday night into a Monday morning with Arnie and
Plank on Fox Sports Radio Arnie and Plank on Fox
Sports Radio to Sager coming up here in mirror moments
to get us caught up on everything that is a
final in the sports world, including the Red Sox and

(01:35:23):
the Yankees. Hit up Twitter, coming up here in just
a bit little buy or sell as well. It sucks,
are horrible. It's really not going well, is it? No?
They're done? Season over for the Red Sox, now over
e r How do you uh? How do people in
your neck of the nape, nape of the neck handle that, Arnie?
Are they doing okay? Is it? Hey? We want a

(01:35:43):
world will be fine. They won a World Series last year,
so they'll just say, okay, no big deal. Patriots are
about the start. Well, it's all about Tommy, you Tommy,
so they'll get over their frustration is pretty quick now
that football seasons here, catcha gotcha all right, and we'll
get to tweets coming up here and just a bit, well,
let's wrap up our NFC South conversation. Is there anything

(01:36:04):
that would lead you to believe now? And I know
we touched on it a bit. The division was bad
last year, or at least it fell apart, is a
better way to put it around New Orleans and New
Orleans was really good. But is there anything to lead
you to believe that maybe Atlanta bounces back or Carolina
could have something for him this year, or even Tampa.
I think at Lanta bounces back, but I don't think
they still win the division. I think that goes to

(01:36:26):
the Saints. A matter of fact, like I said, they've
already clinched it. Saints will finish in first. Atlanta bounces back,
maybe wins ten games, which isn't that tough because they
had seven wins last year, so I expected a lot
more of the Remember they did win three in a
row to finish out the season because they were just
got awful up till then. I'm not buying into Carolina.
I think seven and nine, eight and eights perfect for them,

(01:36:48):
and Tampa is gonna be probably worse than five or
eleven when it's all said and done. So at that
Jamis is out on the market right, there's no way
he's coming back. If they five and eleven, well he
might not come back. But how many teams are really
going to want him? I mean, uh, is he gonna
want big money? Is he a guy that's gonna take

(01:37:09):
you far? I think I'm kind of soured on Jamis Winston.
There was a lot of other quarterbacks that'd rather have
than Jamis. Uh So, New Orleans don't disagree. New Orleans
ten and a half over under which way you're going
gotta go over? They had thirteen last year. The vision
will be better, not that much better. I gotta go
over with the Saints. They're just too strong. I was

(01:37:30):
looking over those numbers again, and I just I get
that four of his five interceptions during the regular season
came in the final five games that he played. But
I I don't understand this narrative that he struggled down
the stretch. I mean, I never even heard anybody said
that he was struggling. That he was struggling period. Oh Arnie,

(01:37:50):
I mean they they look at the video and which
he threw the ball that was intercepted in over time,
you know what. I know that you are a very
deep thinker on this kind of stuff, But there are
people that see one piece of video and that, for
dear life, I mean, you never do that. Um So
over under ten and a half, you're taking New Orleans
over Atlanta eight and a half, which I thought believe.

(01:38:14):
I know eight Mats five hundred captain obvious, but ain't
a half seemed kind of low for Atlanta. But then
the more I thought about it, I realized I see
a little bit high to based on what they're coming
off of. Maybe it's the belief in their new offensive coordinator,
Dirk Cutter. I don't know, but I'm really torn on
the eight and a half right now. I think that's
one of the better bets in Vegas is taken the
over on the Atlanta Falcons eight and a half. Like

(01:38:35):
I said, Um, they'll be much better than they were
last year. Look offensively, they'll still have the numbers as
if they improved just a little bit. Defensively, they'll get
the ten wins. Sure, Uh two games against the Saints.
If you could just split against that, they can go
five and one in the division. Um. A matter of fact,
I think they went four and two last year in
the division with the crappy year they had, so um,

(01:38:57):
it's very doable. It's the out of comfort or the
out of division in schedule, which is what got them
last year. But uh, yeah, I think I'd have to
take the over eight and a half for in Atlanta.
I would argue it was the injuries that got him
last year as well too, But Matt Ryan statistically had
as good of a year in two thousand and eighteen
as he had in two thousand and seventeen. Uh open

(01:39:19):
up in Minnesota, home for Philadelphia, then on the road
to the Indianapolis Colts. Tough little three game start for
the Falcons, really difficult. Carolina over under seven and a half.
But that's a tough number. Um, I'm not so sure
they're gonna reach to five hundred. Matter of fact, I'm
I'm gonna back off that. Um gosh, it's a great

(01:39:41):
number in Vegas. I wonder I bet you most people
are probably taking the over on that. If if you're
gonna hold me to the fire, I'll probably take the over.
But seven and nine, eight and eight, Um, you know,
one way or the other, I see him right about there.
I see him like right there as a five hundred team.
So they're not gonna compete for the division. But you know,
like I said, seven and nine eight natives where I

(01:40:02):
think they'll be. And then Tampa Bay over under six
and a half. You gotta go away on there. There'll
be lucky to win three games. They're gonna be a
horrible team. How do you think Bruce Arians is gonna
handle that? I think he'll handle it just fine. To
be honest with you, Why do you think he's gonna
rave and rant and and and throw a big fuss
about that. He doesn't see that type of manager to me,
Brucy Bruce Arians. I mean, he gets very sarcastic, but

(01:40:26):
I don't see him screaming and yelling at the top
of his lungs. Though, well, I see him much more
tann So maybe he's more relaxed and he's enjoying it more,
and maybe that's what it is. So there you have it.
We'll do a little buy or sell after the Sager's update.
Let's hit a couple of tweets. Your boy, Darryl Plank
is about to blow a gasket tonight. Arnie is absolutely
the greatest agitator in the media today period. Love him. Wow,

(01:40:46):
that's like three of the greatest tweets ever to this
show for you, right all in one night. It's amazing
that we all got him on the same night. That's fantastic.
It's crazy, isn't it. Bill writes, Texas is going to
beat Oklahoma this year in the red River. Well, Bill,
they did last year? Where did we end up better?
Get because somebody wrote that in Wow, what's better? I'm
I'm spewing facts. How is that bitter? Hey? Congratulations you

(01:41:08):
beat us last year in the Red River shoot out too?
What happened in the Big twelve championship game? Oh that's right,
you lost and you couldn't defend your home field against
West FRIGI that was killing you when they beat you
early too, that was just destroying. It was really your
whole season. No, it was great because that was what
That was the moment And I told you this. I
told you this, that was the moment. Uh again, I'm

(01:41:28):
not you are just on one tonight. I don't think
you can take Saturday nights off anymore. This is the
top five moments where I kind of want to call
Shapiro afterwards to say, I quit, I get everything. When
people complain about working with Arnie, just get me out
of here. But I told you this the show after
the Texas game, I said, that's the best I've ever

(01:41:50):
seen Kyler Murray play. And that was the moment where
I thought they were going to be really good. But yeah,
go ahead, Bill, hold on to that regular season win
for another year, and I had brought up the potential
of the dream four team playoff. In other words, when
people complain about Clemson and Alabama being bad for college football,

(01:42:10):
we're tired of Clemson Alabama. We're tired of it. It's boring,
we're done with it. We need to move on. We
brought up what would be that dream four team playoff
scenario heading into the final hour of the show, and
I kind of like a few of these, Isaac wrote.
Isaac wrote, Notre Dame, USC, Alabama, and Ohio State, Right,
I mean, you get the diversity of having someone other
than Clemson in there, you get Alabama back US season

(01:42:31):
the midst of it, and a name like Notre Dame,
Ohio State, Ralph throws in, USC, Georgia, Texas, and Michigan.
Now again, I think Alabama or Clemson needs to be
in there. Maybe Alabama, but for the most part, Arnie,
I think when you're looking at what would be best
for college football, if you're saying that you're tired of

(01:42:52):
Alabama Clemson, at least one of those teams needs to
be in there, right, But unfortunately USC, Texas, I don't
feel that spark like back in I did five ten
years ago. I don't have that hatred toward them or
anything like that. That's been down for so long, you know,
uh a is usc Texas is back for the fourth

(01:43:12):
or fifth or sixth or seventh or eighth straight year. Um,
but that was a nice one over Georgia. So I'm
with you. You know. Maybe, by the way, what would
you I'm sorry to rough, what would you I just
would you mentioned Texas? What would you give to seed
North Carolina play at Texas because Mac Brown had taken over?
How great would that be? Huh? Well, I think Texas
would beat him by fifty this year. But beside the point,

(01:43:33):
do you know what I mean? They'll come on maybe
maybe in a couple of years, and then I'd be great.
Could you imagine Mac Brown going into Austin like pulling
an upset off. Oh my goodness, I'm great with that
THATSS fans would not handle that well. Um. And and
by the way, lou Lou wrote this, and and I
understand at lou Riley Ryder wrote, uh, Zeke was eighteen,

(01:43:55):
Cooper was sixty second, Dak not listed the NFL Top
one hundred players. I'm sorry that's the most irrelevant piece
to try to defend an argument. I'm not saying lou Is,
but just in general, Arnie, I'm done with the top
one hundred Listen. I have no problem with their rankings,
but it's just, I don't you know what they do.

(01:44:15):
They give the guys a list. They give here, here's
one through one hundred. Fill it out. I mean you
you pick your guys. I mean, right, you pick who
you want in there. I'd rather have a Madden Rating
reveal show anymore than the top one hundred players. It's
become the dumbest thing ever. And the fact that we
lose our minds over it, or the fact that we
used to it's not even a big deal anymore, and

(01:44:37):
it's like, oh, great, the top one hundred list is out, awesome,
let's move on. I mean, it's just I'm done with
the top one hundred list. And you can't really use
it too. If you're saying they've got to pay Zeke
and Cooper because that's not on that list, Yeah, that's
not that either. Well, by the by the way, is
it kind of weird that usually if you're a quarterback
you get escalated about ten or twenties spots. Oh, it

(01:45:00):
is kind of weird that he didn't make the top one.
You know, there's a lot of uh, I see what
she did there. There's a lot of things in that
top one hundred lists that we could debate and lose
our minds about. But when you realize that it's just
a bunch of teammates picking their own guys, you realize, Okay,
so this is really about the NFL network people procuring
this list to make it out what they wanted to

(01:45:21):
be more than anything else. That's all it is. All right,
when we come back to the guy called Fox Sports
Radio Studios, let's play a little by or Sell. But
for the final time tonight, Steve de Sega rolls in
to give us an update on every sports I can tell.
He did, by the way, NFL dot Com says, Cowboys

(01:45:43):
owner Jerry Jones did meet the media after the intersquad
squimmage today in southern California at camp. And as far
as the contract situations, he says, there's seven or eight
players that they're either negotiating with or preparing to But
as far as Zeke Deck and Amari quote, just know that,
like so many things, it'll happen. There's literally no on

(01:46:06):
that all about any time frame that'll happen. And quote,
I think that's what I told you, he said, not
not buying it, not buying it all. That's fine. By
the way, we've skipped over a great story in the
sports world today. We'll get to the Yankees at a moment.
There's a guy named J. T. Posting who took golfs
Windham Championship. He shot sixty two final round to win

(01:46:27):
by one stroke. It's his first tour victory. It's worth
over one point one million dollars, and the guy had
no bogies or worse in any round all weekend. The
first man said, Lee Trevino in n to win a
tournament that way. I can't shoot sixty two and like
a par three. We are told by management not to
use the phrase shoot and arnie in the same sense.

(01:46:49):
Post It is from the state of North Carolina. The
event was in Greensboro and a rolly nadd Webb Simpson
finished second, one shot back. The tour playoffs start Thursday
in New Jersey and the tour champ and ship later
this month in Atlanta. And I'm glad you guys mentioned
longtime NFL reporter Don Bank passed away in his sleep
overnight in Canton, Ohio. He was fifty six. He had
worked for SI for seventeen years. The Patriots gave quarterback

(01:47:12):
Tom Brady an extension. It includes a pay raise for
this season. Jacksonville pass rusher Yannick and Goquay ended his holdout,
reporting to camp. He's entering the final year of his
rookie deal. The Texans waved running back Deonte Foreman forty
Niners linebacker d Ford will miss at least another week
with a bad knee. Chase Elliott won the NASCAR race
at Watkins. Glenn earned the poll LT eighty of the
ninety laughs Smart and Drue X Jr. Was second. Tonight,

(01:47:35):
the Yankee sent Boston to an eight straight loss, seven
to four. David Price took the loss. He was down
seven nothing in the third inning. Shockey He's pitched so
great after never or seven and five. The record this
year for the thirty million dollars so Oaklenna four to
win over St. Louis, beating Adam Wayne Right the A's
or in playoff contention, they won six of seven, but

(01:47:56):
the cub sweat Milwaukee this weekend seven to this final.
The record at home this year is thirty nine and eighteen,
and they're now alone in first in the NL Central,
game and a half over St. Louis and four games
up on the Brewers, who lost six of seven. Now
Minnesota and Cleveland each one at home. The Twins are
first place in the AL Central, still three games up
on the Tribe. Houston and justin Verlander beat Seattle three one,

(01:48:19):
and the Dodgers got two in the eighth, two and
the ninth to defeat San Diego eleven to ten. One
more item when we come back in in ten seconds.
The guy's returning the moments after this from Farmers that
Farmers insurance. We know a roof can withstand a lot,
one exception being an airborne car. I've seen it, covered it.
Dr Farmers, we are Farmers underwritten my Farmers truck Fire

(01:48:42):
Insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable in every state. So
we'll get to the basketball outem. I forgot your Mets.
They've actually won nine of ten. When does that happened before?
I gotta mention in thirteen to two winners at Pittsburgh,
and yes, Detroit lost another game. That's the worst team
in the majors. Tigers lost nine four at Texas. Tigers
record thirty two and seventy five. You know, we brought
up the David Price salary getting paid more than Tom

(01:49:02):
Brady in Boston. Jordan's Zimmerman, the Tigers starter today, is
getting paid more than Tom Brady this year. Jordan's Zimmerman
is making twenty five million dollars this year and now
has an array of seven point one three and two
years ago, when he was making eighteen mill his ra
was six. Wow. You need to make good choices, and
he made a good one. Play baseball and with true

(01:49:24):
Car you've got a star on your roster. So when
you're ready to sell or trade in your car, checkout
truecr True Cash offer not available in all areas. The
update from USA Basketball is that the players have arrived
in Vegas for their first meetings. Training camp starts tomorrow
and goes through Friday and exhibition there Friday night. The
US has fifteen players for now. They'll take twelve to
the World Cup in China. About thirty players have withdrawn

(01:49:45):
from the roster over the past year. The US is
gonna train next week in l a and then play
an exhibition in Anaheim on Friday of next week. Then
the twelve man roster gets an ounced August seventeenth. Then
they go off to Australia for more practices, more exhibit Asians,
and finally start in China September one with the World Cup.
Since the Games are in China that means early morning games.

(01:50:06):
Our time head coach Gregg Popovich among the assistants, a
man who has never spoken to either. Co host Tonight
Steve Kerr becka wow, painful. It hurts when he doesn't
call me. I'm still waiting. It hurts me. We're coming
to your lives to night from the guy Fox Ends
and radio studios. It's easy to say or more. On
car insurance with Geico, go to Geko dot com or

(01:50:28):
call eight nine four seven Auto. The only hard part
figuring out which way is easy? Can I can? I
just read one of the craziest text I think I've
ever think we've ever gotten go ahead, Will says, how
about Chris? We give Arnie off a few Sundays and
you flight solo those shows. No, no, no, no, I
think I think I can speak on behalf of management

(01:50:48):
that will never happen okay, So let's just go ahead.
You've been the cheap shot king because we're so good
as a team. I I now I know why Aaron
Torres is so happy. Man, he's gotta be on cloud
nine today. You saved all your victual and all your

(01:51:09):
venom and all your just hate foras after he went solo.
I seriously doubt they'll do that again. So go ahead.
My gosh, you gotta watch out. He's a millennial. He's
very sensitive. You can't say that kind all right, So
buy or sell. We do this every single Sunday night.
No one else does it in a history of sports radio.

(01:51:29):
It's no unique so Arnie, we we focused a lot
on the NFC South. So buy or sell. Jamis Winston
will not be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to start
the season. I'm going to buy that. I think it's
best for him, best for Tampa. They cut the cord,
he moves on, they move on from from him, and
I think they will. Look, it didn't end well for

(01:51:51):
Tampa last year with the four games in a row.
Otherwise they were kind of somewhat still in the thick
of things. If things go south real quickly, which I
expect them to do. Um that said, how much longer
could you keep this guy? You've got to move on
and think of what who's around in another direction? Plus
think about this. Look, I don't so earlier for this,
but if Tampa finishes with the worst record, welcome to

(01:52:13):
UH to Tampa Bay. So there you go. Okay, tank
for TUA and Tampa. That's a lot of tea. I
don't know, is there is there gonna be a worst
team than that, maybe by Dolphins or the Giants, but
you know they have their quarter. I am so intrigued
by what your your Dolphins and Giants look like this year.
I really am. And I don't know if the Raiders

(01:52:34):
can move on from Derek Carr because now he's bought
a house next to John Gruden in Vegas. So what
are they gonna do? It's like how we cut you?
But what's up, neighbor? Welcome home? Yeah? I don't think
that bothers Gruden at all. You know what I mean,
You're probably right at the core of it all. John
Gruden couldn't care less if you're his neighbor, or if
you're his brother or uncle or whatever. He would cut

(01:52:56):
you in a heartbeat in order to get what you
heard about what that ed cheering guy did, right, the
ed Sharing the singer. Yeah, the neighbors were complaining about
him being two outs, so he just bought their house.
I'll just buy your house and kick you out, So
they're always worried. Sometimes when you say ed Sharing, if
you realize you're talking about the singer, you're thinking of
some seventies offensive linemen. I think Gruden saying I'll just

(01:53:18):
buy your house and just kick you out. There you go,
by the way buyer sell Arnie. There truly is a
quarterback competition in Miami, and Josh Rosen has taken the lead.
Are you buying that there's even a battle right now.
I'm buying there's a battle, But maybe it's like a
fight that isn't fair. I I read all those reports

(01:53:38):
you know last week that scept it's Fitzpatrick or fitzil
was you know the Fitzpatrick Thank you. UM, I'll just
keep calling him either one. Um. You know it's the
front runner. But I think Josh should go ahead and
take over. He's the future of the team. Let's see
what he's got now and and put him out there.
And I guess he's leading the competition. Now, must have

(01:54:00):
been some a couple of hell of practice that he's overtaken, uh,
you know, the starting job again. But yeah, there's a
there's a controversy going on, but I think Rosen wins
out at the end of the year. I think the
preseason now exactly well into the year, and of the preseason,
the preseason is the free season. I agree. And then finally,
real quick, aren't yeah, buyer sell, the consistency of Clemson

(01:54:25):
in Alabama is bad for college football? Now, you know,
do we say the Patriots are bad for the NFL? Um?
I know people tried to say Golden State was bad
for the NBA, but it really wasn't. I mean, it
got other teams going, making moves and getting them better,
and which is why we have so much, um, you know,
so much interest going into the NBA season. So, no,

(01:54:45):
Alabama Clemson are not bad. We're just bitter because we
feel like those two teams already madically in the finals,
and we only have two other teams to get into
the fourth team playoff. Um, let's play it out. But no,
of course they're not really bad for football. When week
we agree, when we come back to the guy. Go
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Let's wrap it up. He's perfect
on the season. Arnie's picks next on Fox Sports Radio.

(01:55:13):
Good stuff tonight on Fox Sports Radio Quick Show, Very
Fast Um thanks to Bobo on the wheels is still
great music all night long, also lead A Lapp who
hooked us up with Howard Bolzer and and Luke Easterling.
Next week we focus on the a f C West

(01:55:33):
America's Division. So good stuff, Luke and the Sagra on
updates all night long has just been absolutely killing it.
Don't forget the legend the great Big Ben Mallory is
coming up next to safely guide you through the overnight
along with Eddie Garcia and the Cruise. So we've got
you covered all night long with more hot sports opinions.
And I'm sure I'm sure Ben's filled with love tonight.

(01:55:55):
I can just sense it. With with the mood Artie
has been in tonight, I can imagine is just spitting fire.
So far the season, I think Arnie's I think I
know what it is. Yeah, you're on cloud nine because
going on, I know what it is. You're on cloud
nine because you're bat in a thousand, right, now, so

(01:56:17):
you're not going to let anything calm you down, like
logical reason. So with that in mind, let's go, Arnie.
Let's get your picks out there. The masters have waited
long enough. You're two and ohh, I'm sorry, you're bat
in a thousand on the season. So first full week
of NFL exhibition games, who you like? Alright, to and

(01:56:39):
O on the season? Picking it? I have four picks,
four picks if I win all four and go six
and oh to to go to six and oh, you
might as well not even put me on the air
next week because it's going to get ugly. I'll be
so cocky. Let me start with Miami Atlanta, and I
was not impressed with the way Atlanta walked. I'm not

(01:57:00):
gonna say all based on one preseason game, what they're
gonna do in the regular season. That's not the point
of this exercise. This is strictly for the preseason. I
think we're gonna see more of that from Atlanta. There's
no urgency here like Miami, with a quarterback controversy, other
people fighting for jobs at a new coach. I love
going with the new coaches because for some reason, they

(01:57:20):
like to prove and get a win right off the bat,
even if it's in the preseason. Kind of a big
number here, but I'll lay it. Give me the Dolphins, Mike,
Dolphins minus the three at home against Atlanta. Let's get
to the Jets and the Giants. No way I can
let this one slide. Look, we know the problems that
the Giants have, but their defense still is really, really good.

(01:57:43):
I think the Jets kind of go through the motions.
Levian Bell won't play this game. I'm I'm I'm guessing
you won't see a lot of the Jets starters, no
sense of urgency. Giants do want to go ahead and
you know, kind of get some preseason wins just for
their fan base of anything. I like the Giants plus
the one and a half in this one. Jacksonville and Baltimore.

(01:58:07):
You know, this one I really like because Jacksonville another
team that had a disappointing season last year, and when
you're coming off something like that, you've got a lot
to prove. Now. I know a lot of people have
bet Baltimore they drove that lineup from two and a
half up to four. That's perfect. Let me jump on
Jacksonville plus the four and the last game Seattle at Denver,

(01:58:31):
even though Denver um one on that last second cover
at the end of the game, still not pressed with them.
Seattle is going to be at home. Um, always tough
to win there, even if it is the preseason. Give
me Seattle minus the two. So there you have my picks,
and do with them as you please. But remember they
are strictly for entertainment purposes only they don't even have

(01:58:52):
to be for entertainment. Bet you've been patting yourself on
the back all night long. Why would you ever say
for entertainment purpose? His own right? Come on, go do it,
go do it? Um? All right, So just to recap
and the written down, so we'll keep track. Miami minus
three correct, the Giants plus a point and a half correct,

(01:59:13):
Jacksonville plus four, and the Seattle Seahawks minus two. And
I think all the games are on Thursday that I took.
I didn't take anybody water on there you go, so
you'll have plenty I feel to dive into it. What
if you go over four? You know that last year
I won't show up. Last year. I think he started
two and oh as well, and then it went oh

(01:59:34):
for the next couple of weeks. But if I go
six and oh, I want to get on the TV
show at Ferman, I think I deserve that. It would
be like the make a Wish. It's like, here's Arnie Spanier,
he went six and oh, so he's on with Ferman
and Clay Trap. I don't even Aren't they in a
break right now? So yeah, as soon as they come
back and make sure you make that happen, all right.

(01:59:56):
So again thanks to Howard Ballser for coming on with us.
This was a tough night for so many football writers
as we remember the great Don Banks who passed away
unexpectedly at the age of fifties six. Also heavy weekend
for football in general with the Cliff Branch so thanks
to passing away at the age of statty too. So
thanks to Howard for coming on with us. Thanks to

(02:00:16):
Luke eastern Ling Arnie, have a great week for for Steve,
I'm playing We'll see you next week on Fox.
