Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the best of the Doug dot Leap Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
That is a right happy black Friday the day after Thanksgiving.
Thank you for joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
I am Manci Belanos. You heard it here with former
All Pro safety Carry Roads and my buddy. Yes, I
know we haven't done this in a minute, so I'm
excited to get to hang out with you and talk
all things sports everything. And guess what we're not going
(00:26):
to talk about today. The Jets. Yes, yes, we're not
gonna talk about the Jets. Everybody, No Jets. I don't
even think we're gonna talk about the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
We don't need to. We don't need to.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
We don't need to. We have a great show for you.
We are coming to you live from the tirect dot
com studios. Direct dot com. We'll help you get there
and unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect dot com the
way tirebind should be. How is your Thanksgiving?
Speaker 4 (00:53):
My Thanksgiving was small, safe, fun. I'm just throwing out
at me right now. Yeah, yeah, no, it was good.
I like to keep it small. I'm very and I'm
very I'm an intimate person in general, so I like
to keep it really, you know that keep it closed.
I'm not like, I don't go out. I don't really
get in the midst of things.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
So it was fun.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
I did that, had some food, and then we went
and saw Wicked last night, which was which was pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Have you seen Wicked musical like on stage?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
You have not, So what did you think though of
the movie?
Speaker 3 (01:23):
And see, That's what I was about to say.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
So I didn't see the stage play, and so I've
had those moments of seeing the stage playing then seeing it,
you know, brought to you on the big screen, and
it's been awful, correct, And so I asked my friend
who was with me, like, how did it stack up?
And she said it was.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
It was great. She said it was a good movie.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
And I was like, all right, So I just saw
the movie and I enjoyed the movie.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
You enjoyed it. That's good. I have heard positive things
from people who have seen the stage performance and then
seen it on the big screen. I haven't seen it.
I love the musical itself on stage. I've seen it
five times, one time in London and I went crazy.
So I will be watching it, and I have heard
positive things, so I'm very excited about it. What's the
worst thing that you ate for Thanksgiving?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
The worst thing that I ate? You're gonna be upset.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
And I know we're friends, and I know we're I
know we're really cool, right, But I had a little
piece of a piece of turkey, which was was actually
the worst thing that I had not And I'm not lying.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
And that's that's actually I guess most people, if you're
a listener, maybe you've heard that I'm a vegetarian. Yes
i am, but to me, I feel like carnivores are
also like, oh I love Thanksgiving. I love the mashed
potatoes and green beads. It's always the sides that are
being and so it's like, so, why are we killing
all these turkeys for this one day, for this one
(02:40):
day when people don't even care? You know what I'm saying.
Martin gets it. I just don't. Everyone's always like I
like all the other stuff, yes, but yet here we are,
and you know, everyone's pretending they like turkey. And even
when I had turkey, I never like, I was like,
I don't get it, and people are like you never
had good turkey. I was like, that's everyone told me,
this is the turkey you're gonna like, just like bacon.
Well again, to me, does not taste as good as
(03:01):
it smells.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I'll tell you, though, fried is different. Have you had fried?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I have not had fried that deep fried? Yes, yes, okay,
that sounds amazing.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
No, deep fried turkey. De fried turkey is actually good.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
But just the regular turkey that's you know, in the oven,
it's it's.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
I just don't get it. I just don't get it.
One thing I don't like, though, sweet mashed potatoes with
like marshmallows on them.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Talking about the.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Like, but like, why are we putting mash Why are
we putting marshmallows on it? I don't It's dessert, it's dessert,
and but it's not the turkey next to the regular
mashed potatoes, next to the green beans, which is my
favorite touch. By the way, don't ask me how to
make it because I don't know. I don't cook, I
don't clean. Yeah you can, you can if you'd like.
(03:53):
But we hope all of you had a nice, safe,
fun Thanksgiving with whoever you were with. But it's Friday
and less than twenty four hours or about twenty four
hours later, the Bears have made a decision that I
think we all knew yesterday.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yes we all.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
We were just all waiting when are the Bears going
to fire Matt Eberflus. They made him have a conference
day like. He spoke to the media and they asked
him like, oh, what do you think and he's like, no,
I think I'll be here. Everything's good and positive. Two
ish hours later, three hours later, it was announced that
he was fired. But he did have a press conference
(04:29):
this morning. Wow, why would you make him do that?
Speaker 3 (04:33):
It's for them. Happened to endure what they endured in
the game yesterday.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Got it.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
It was payback.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
It was payback. But I never thought of it ready.
I got those thirty seconds Carrie, Oh man, I was
pulling my hair out. I was running on the treadmill,
you know, I like to run ruining on the treadmill
watching this game, and I am yelling call time out.
And I was able to yell that so many times
because of how much time was left the Bears had
(04:59):
one time out. He gets sat Caleb Williams with about
thirty seconds to go, and You're like, let's go, let's go.
You have two opportunities left, you're down by three, you're
around midfield. You have a chance to actually tie the
game and go to overtime. Now, what's going to happen
in overtime. That's a separate conversation. Yeah, you know, you
maybe would have lost to the Detroit Lions, and Detroit sure, sure, yeah,
but you you had There was no way anybody was
(05:20):
watching that game thinking we're not going to overtime, right,
Like everybody was like, all right, well, I guess we're
gonna have a little extra game here, but no time out.
And then Caleb, it's like Matt Eberflus to me, it's
like this was all on you. Caleb Williams looked like
he was trying to get the team going, put him
in a position, and then they were all lined up
(05:41):
and he still waited ten seconds to snap the.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Ball, like it, I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why, please,
I saw it. So what actually happened there? Obviously you
should have two plays going to the line of scrimmers.
That should be automatic, right, you should be in in
attack mode, so that means you're going to be prepared
for or all right, if we have an in completion,
we can huddle back up. If we catch the ball
(06:04):
in play, we're gonna have two plays ready, so the
next play is already there. You keep the same personnel
out there. That's what a well coached team would do. Now,
when you saw them, they weren't scramble mode. They were
not prepared. And when you saw those ten seconds where
Caleb didn't snap the ball, he was beating the defense.
He didn't even like the look, and so he was
(06:25):
trying to get to know the play. So it's just like,
and he.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Said that that he changed his decision last minute.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
You can see that.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
And even with him saying all that, I really I
don't put a lot of blame on Caleb Williams someone
on on that right, It's like you are the coach.
You in that moment when you realize that they were
not quickly executing a play. They obviously weren't comfortable, So
why not like call a time out, calm everyone down,
and actually run a successful quick play where you can
(06:52):
get out of bounds and maybe go for a field goal,
Like give yourself a chance. Yes, but you didn't even
give yourself a chance.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Zero.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
I got a question for you man, settle over under
How many times did you say call time out?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
And that's man, honest, over ten over ten.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
As I'm running. As I'm running like I was, caught
him out, called him out, Okay, call him out, Jesus.
It was unreal that they just sat there and didn't
do anything. And it's like, you know, he did not
get fired for last night. Six losses in a row.
None of them have been good losses. I know those
(07:26):
are hard to come by good losses, yes, but there
are good losses out there. None of those have been
good losses. Against your Cardinals, I think they put up nine.
It was bad. It was bad. Against the Patriots they
put up three. That's even worse. Lost to the Packers
by one, loss to the Vikings by three.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Yeah, and then last night, yeah that's good. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
This this makes it hard to like you just said,
those losses should be easily wins, and with the talent
that they have, because they do have talent, it stings.
And so and I in hearing from like your resident
Bears fans, I mean, I did the show with Mike
the other day and yeah, and you know he's a
Bears fan. It says like ebra flu's is this guy
so right? Like he everything gets kind of honky dory
(08:13):
when it's not. There's no real in depth discussion about
what happened, like even last night, right, like about what
happened last night. It's like there's nothing in depth about it.
And so that would tell you that if he can't
even give you a like any elaborate response to a
question you have, how is he going to have a
team of sixty one guys on the same page.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
It's just not going to happen.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
It's not. And I know that it's is you know,
getting fired mid third year. Like I understand that you're
a little bit maybe fresh, you have a new quarterback
and all of that, but this seems like basic one
oh one coaching, you know, like, and that's I think
what's hard to swallow. And yeah, one of those losses
I mentioned was a blocked field goal rumber. That's that's crazy.
It's literally like the Bears. Is it bad luck? Is
(08:58):
it bad luck? Or is is it bad coaching? In
these situations At the end.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
There you go, they said the word.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Say that word again, situation situational.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Yes, you have to have it doesn't matter how smart
you are doesn't matter how good at motivating people you are.
If you don't understand situational football, you will not win
because it's all about that. The NFL is such a
game where the inches, the little moments matter. We see
all the big ones, we celebrate the big ones, but
knowing how to block right on an extra point on
(09:30):
a field goal, no one when to like I said,
not have even if you don't have two plays ready,
knowing that, okay, this situation where we may have to
do a rush field goal situation right, so even we
catch the ball in bounds, we still can run them
out there and kick a field goal.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
But it's preparation. You got to have your team ready
to do that.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
At any given times, and especially yesterday, because it must
have been really frustrating if you were a Bears fan
to come back into the second half after not scoring
anything and then getting in a rhythm and Caleb Williams
looking like, okay, hey, he's whatever you guys said at halftime.
It helped. Here they are now. Did the Detroit Lions
take their foot off the gas, which we don't see
(10:08):
them do very often this season. They don't care if
the score is forty two to three, they're gonna score
if they can't with the linemen exactly like it does
not be situational football. They have all these various situations,
they know how to execute, and just so many different
times this season we saw the Bears not execute in
(10:29):
moments that I thought were simple moments like I don't
I'm not a I've never played football, Listen, I do
wish that in mind. Here in my day there was
girls flag football because I won one hundred. I did
that with my strority. I did play flag football my sorty,
but I wish I would have done that, because I
think when you play a sport, it helps you understand
(10:49):
it a little bit better. One of the reasons I
love basketball so much because I played it, you know.
So I everything has been just from the perspective of
watching as a fan, never as a player, obviously, but
there are moments where I'm like, this seems like a
very obvious choice, and it's disappointing to see it not
just once, not just twice, but throughout the entire season.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
And if you're saying that not being a participant correct
to the NFL at all in your career, if that's
not I that if you can say that, then what
the what are his players and administration and GM and
owners thinking like that's it's just it's very simple math.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
You cannot get it done. Okay, we got to let
you go.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Yeah, So why do you think they waited so long?
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Well, because they got a new roster this year, right,
so they wanted to see if he could actually coach
talent and give them a chance to win. I mean,
obviously that would be the normal response to seeing him,
because he hasn't been good enough first the first two.
But now we got a revamped up roster, we got
the quarterback that you want, because I'm sure he hadn't
he hadn't picked him, and so yeah, we want to
see if he can win. And the answer is he
(11:50):
cannot win with that team.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
So you got to move not with this team. Any
early predictions on who may be taking over, I.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Mean, I think everybody.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
The first one that everybody throws out would be Ben Johnson, Right,
So the saying that he the guy that he just left,
he's an offensive guru. He goes into that offense with
all those weapons, he might like it makes sense.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
He might like that would be bad.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
What about you?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
I mean I really don't know, but I bring this
up because Brandon, one of our editors, like, came over
after this even he's like, well, you know there are
rumors that Lincoln Riley's gonna take that job already Lincoln
roy at night.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Oh well, Caleb Okay, Caleb okay.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Right, Caleb will and so and the things. Things aren't
going that great in us see right now. So it's like,
you know, maybe maybe he does. I was like, wow,
we people are already predicting some crazy things out. The
thing with with Ben Johnson is will he want to?
Would you want to leave the Lions? Which is the
same thing that happened last year in the off season, Right,
he will? He will in the right situation, And you
(12:44):
think this is the right situation.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Yeah, I think he didn't.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
I think he didn't understand the value of what the
commanders could have because that would have been a great
spotform as well. Yeah, but I do like the fit
with Dan Quinn. I think that was actually a better
one for that change. But yeah, he's gonna. I mean,
you don't coach to and you don't get to the
to the plateau.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
That he's at right now.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
As as a play call, as offensive coach to not
want to have your own team, and.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
I am guessing if the Lions win, it'll be an
easier move also because it's like, if you win, you
have it in your pocket. You're like, I got it,
I got a super Bowl. Now let me go get
my own in a different.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
I'm just thinking about it. That will be a division
rival though, which.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Would be very tough. But we like all that messy stuff,
and there is a lot of messy things going on
in sports in the NFL that we are going to
dive into. On the other side of this, we have
to talk about the Colorado Buffalos, Carrie. They just played
a game. I think they may be finishing if they're not.
Boise State also playing, so like high Heisman talk, we're
(13:44):
going to get into it. On the other side, this
is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Boom.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
What of America, I am Montcivilanos, not the gott leave
here alongside all former all pro safety carry roads. We
have to get you a chain that says that, remember
we talked about that. We're going to get you as
just so people don't forget like it's funny.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
When I'm on everybody else's show. When I'm hosting those shows,
it mentions NFL all pro Yeah, on my own so
it just says carry road, so I don't know what's
going on own show, which is on.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Sad Sundays with Dan Bayer Uh, which, by the way,
we do have a later on if you stick around,
because Carrie and I are going to be here for
the next three hours. We have a who knows buyer Best?
And I'm coming up.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
I'm licking my chops.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
I think I got you, Think you got me? I
think I got you.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
There it is. That's all I need to hear. That's
all I need to see.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
You stick around. We also may have a little Thanksgiving
trivia along with talking all things NFL basketball. Literally, guys,
stick around and guess what. We're not talking about the Jets.
We're not talking about the Cowboys, so don't you worry
about that. We are broadcasting live from the tyrec dot
com studios. Tyrec dot Com will help you get there
in unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers tyrec dot com the
(15:02):
way tire bind should be. Matt Eberflus has showed us
how not to be a coach. Tyre Rec shows you
how to get tires. Matt eber Flu says, shown us
how not to coach a game. In the final thirty
seconds with a timeout, down by three, around midfield, with.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
All the momentum, with all the momententime.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
In case you missed it, I'm sure you didn't. The
Bears decided to finally fire Matt Eberflus following last night's
brutal loss to the Lions, where they really should have
at least gone to overtime. Unreal, finish, unreal. You and
I talked about it. How did you not call a
time out? Everyone knew you should call a time out.
You didn't even have to know what was going on.
(15:41):
Just turn it in, call time out. You look, you'd
look lost, your team looks lost, and there's thirty seconds
to go. You have a chance call it time out.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
When my eleven year old godson is like, I think
it should probably call it time out.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I think you know that it's coaching mal practice.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
One hundred percent. Something that seems so obvious, and yet
it happened before all of our eyes, and some people
were extremely surprised in the situation, not just us. Our
producer Shay is here. Tim Patrick was on the show
yesterday with the Doug Gottlieb with not the Doug Gottlieb
Show was on Dan Patrick with Doug Gottlieb and Dan Byer.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Is that it?
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Yeah? Yeah, I got it?
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yeah, tis Jan Aaron Torres, So we got it. Let's
listen to exactly what Tim Patrick had to say yesterday
to the fellas.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
Can you explain to me what was going through your
mind as the seconds were ticking away watching the Chicago
Bears on offense in those final waning seconds of today's game.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
Happy Thanksgiving to you guys too. Honestly, I don't know
what happened. I'm not ever gonna lie to you. I
know a third and long obviously they didn't want to
spike it if they had a timeout, they didn't call
a time out. Uh, I'll kind of shock. And then
when we threw it up and they said the time
is out, Oh, it's not what we want.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Is that?
Speaker 6 (16:56):
Do you guys have like do you have a procedure
just like these does Ben Johnson call the time out
to Dan Campbell called the time out or Jared Goff, Like,
do you guys have a plan in place if there
ever is chaos like that for an offense at the
end of the game.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
Yeah, we definitely have a plan and for all that stuff.
That's why I was kind of I would just approly
that happened. I'm not gonna lie because they had a time.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Out, right, Yeah they did. Yep.
Speaker 7 (17:19):
Yeah, yeah, that's for ourselves, so we'll believe at that.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
We will leave it at that.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
I love that he didn't tail their game planned. No,
I saw that. Yeah, he was well versed. Yeah, we'll
just leave it at that.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Not his first day, not his first day, but he
even didn't know what was going on. They're on the field, yes,
Like that's how confusing it really was for everybody watching,
everyone participating and participating, yes, in the game. Really just disappointing.
Way a terrible loss after a couple of terrible losses
(17:51):
by the Bears, six losses in a row, which I mentioned,
none of them good losses. You could say that the
blocked field goal was bad luck, but man, that's a
lot of bad luck Chicago right now.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Yeah, that's a lot of bad luck. You lose on
the hill, Mary, you lose on a block kick, like
all those things are leaning out. You forgot about that,
and the coach and mail practice on that one as well,
like the ten yards that they let Jayden and Daniels
get on that completion to get to midfield to tempt
the hill.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Mary. It's just bad football.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
So it's been a history of bad football and a
series of unfortunate events.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
For Maddi Bufflows.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
It's definitely a mess in Chicago that they are trying
to fix. Speaking of messes, the NFC West is a mess,
but I like it's a beautiful mess, like chaos. I
do like chaos, especially when it's not my team. There
you go like, if you are a fan of the
NFC West, any of those teams, I get it, you
(18:46):
are not enjoying this, or maybe you are, maybe you're
the Seahawks, And all of a sudden you're like, hey,
because the Seahawks. I was riding the Seahawks. Remember they
won three in a row, but then they lost a
ton of players, especially on the defensive side of the ball,
and then like four out of their next five. But
here they are at the top of the NFC West
with the Cardinals, who at moments look so good and
(19:10):
then in other moments you're like, huh, that's a head scratcher.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Well, I know what the moments are.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
The moments are when I actually bring my jersey here
that I played with, When I put that on display,
they lose. So it's my fault. I'm not going to
bring the jersey anymoreo. Jonathan Gannon is a former teammate
of mine in college, so I always root for him,
and so I have to just like let them be
because I have no expectations for them coming to the season.
(19:36):
I know Dan talked about Dan was high on them
and the way that they play, and so I've kind
of seen that and started to take a liking to it.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
But like you said, they come out and play.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
The way they played last week against Seattle was just
mind boggling unreal.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
That was not the same team I had seen play
the last three weeks. Because they won three in a row, right,
and it's very difficult to win in the NFL. We
know that winning four in a row, but they did not.
They look like a shell of themselves from what we
had seen. I didn't know this jersey thing, because you know,
I'm going to the Cardinals Seahawks game to give you
my jersey. Maybe I shouldn't wear it.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
When is it?
Speaker 2 (20:08):
No, I can't wear it? I should It's next next weekend.
I'm going with my one of my best friends who
is a Seahawks fan, and we were having some drinks
and we're like, let's go, and we booked something, thinking
at the time that the game was not gonna matter,
that it was just gonna be for funsies. We're gonna
cut Arizona. Watch your Seahawks, girl, because I'm not a
(20:28):
Seahawks fan. Wear a Cardinals man. He was like, yeah, girl,
let's go. And now it's like, oh, this game's gonna matter.
It could be for all the marbles if I wear
your jersey and they you know, like if they lose,
she's gonna be happy. So she's probably like, wear the jersey,
wear his jersey, you know what I mean. But I
felt like I had to wear a Seahawks for her.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
If I'm going with her, let's let's wait, just wait,
let's wait. Let's let's wait until we let's let's wait,
let's wait. A couple of days and feel thinking about it.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Let's think about it. Let's think about it all right,
Seahawks Cardinals right there at the top, I think the Seahawks.
McDonald's what's his name, I'm bank the head coach of
the Seahawks McDonald, McDonald, thank you. He has done such
a good job of instilling this defensive mind with the Seahawks. Right,
and you have Geno Smith, who high risk, ky reward. Yes, right,
(21:21):
Like I think he can make the big play. He can,
and then at the same time, I don't know if
he can make the big give you one. He's yeah,
Like it's it's such I think he's exciting to watch. Yeah,
And I love that he has been able to revitalize
his career yere with Seattle. But it's like high risk,
high reward, and that's that's the Seahawks to me downfall, right, and.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
I'll tell you what they're going to have to do
for them to win. You just eloquently stated McDonald is
a defensive guy. They've had up and downs on the
defensive side of the ball, Right, They've lost some people,
some people retired, some crazy things happening unexpectedly. Yes, and
so if they can transform and Geno can transform and
trust that that defense is going to show up the
(22:04):
way they're supposed to. I don't think we'll see the
interceptions because the first year with Pete Carroll, he understood
that the defense is pretty good. He didn't have to
make all the plays. He played really well. If you
can get to back to the point of not thinking
that this team is going to win based off his
performance alone, they'll have a chance. But my biggest surprise
right now in the NFC West is with the Rams.
(22:27):
I've picked the Rams to win that division, and obviously
they started out slow because they had a lot of injuries.
But once they got all the guys back, I thought
the offense would started clicking and you know, they would
put up points like they have been. They haven't been
good either the last couple of weeks, and so it's like,
what's going on in this division?
Speaker 2 (22:43):
It is you thought the Rams were going to come
out and win that division after losing Aaron Donald and
the injuries that started at the start of the season,
you still.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Felt that at the beginning of the season.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
I know how well coached they are, so again this
is me also thinking having the mindset of Arizona not
being that good and Seattle taking the step back. So
I thought, in theory, it's the Rams and forty nine ers.
Forty nine ers thought off slow all the time. So
I was like, hey, dude, the Rams would be in
the mix. And that was my whole It wasn't about
the losses or wins of who they had. It was
more about who wasn't going to be showing up at
(23:16):
the beginning of the year.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Unreal. Yeah, forty nine ers though, like okay, the forty
nine ers.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Man.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Yes, injuries have been a big part of their season,
starting off without Christian McCaffrey. I mean, the biggest bamboozle
I think for NFL fans was Christian McCaffrey. Yes, we
were all bamboozled, all of us. If you had number
one pick in your fantasy I'm very sorry you probably
picked Christian McCaffrey. I would have too, I don't blame you.
(23:48):
And then you were told that he was injured, and
not just a little injury, a pretty bad one that
kept him out put him on ir Now you have
Brock Purty dealing with some shoulder arm in Are the
forty nine ers done? Is their Super Bowl window closing
before our eyes.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Super Bowl window is done.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
It's done. That's closed.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Doesn't mean them winning this division is done. And so
that's the thing, right, Like, they can still get in
the playoffs and have some success this year, but as
far as the Super Bowl goals, they're not beating Detroit,
they're not beating Philly. And then now you have Green
Bay that's starting to finally get it together and join
Love is starting to not turn the ball over. So
I don't see them getting past any one of those
(24:32):
three things, three teams.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
It's hard, but it's also hard to just kind of
eliminate the forty nine ers altogether. I'm with you, like
to say that is like a bold statement because they
are coached well and for the most part, it's the
same team we've been seeing for the last couple of years. Yes,
injuries are a big deal, but luckily for them, they're
still in this mix. They're still in the race. And
you always hear, oh, they got hot at the right time. Yes,
(24:54):
they got hot at the right time. And the forty
nine ers have always been very pro defense, right, which
is what you need in order to get far. I
don't with all that being said, I'm being said, it's
just they do seem a little broken to me, and
it's hard, and I mean broken, not just because of
(25:15):
the injuries, but a little bit deflated, a little defeated.
How do you not feel like that with the start
of this season, like you do have to keep pushing through,
but you can only push through for so long.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
Yeah, it's a glene. I'm looking at the forty nine
ers schedule right now. They got six more games. Realistically,
they can go four and two in these games. I
would pick them to go forward to in these last
six possibly I think nine to eight Steel wins that division.
I don't think the winner of that division's going to
get over nine wins. So it's just it's it's crazy,
and I think it's pretty much right in front of them.
(25:47):
They they have the rams, they have the cars, so
they still have two division games left and then you
have the you know, it's it's still in reason for them.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
It's just it's crazy. I don't know, it is it is.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
I also feel if we're not giving enough credit to
the Cardinals actually, because there are moments where Kyler Murray,
you are like, Okay, Kyler, where did that come from?
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Right?
Speaker 2 (26:12):
And last year he was injured, so we didn't get
like a full scope of like what he's capable of.
He's also very young, and so him with James Connor,
like they do seem like a team that can put
something together. But do I think they can put something
together that will go deep into the playoffs? I don't
(26:32):
think so.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
I don't know. They don't have enough. They don't have enough.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
They don't have enough, just period.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
They don't.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
But they're gonna play hard every game, and so that
that does give you, you know, around around six points
and theory, like really breaking it down that way, like
if you play hard, you're gonna score six points and
the other team's not playing hard and they make a mistake,
they're gonna win the game. They're not going to beat
themselves for the most part, except for last week when
(27:03):
Kyler Murray decided to go, you know, just throw the
ball up and throw a hook shot and the guy
pick it off and take it for a touchdown. But yeah,
other than that, yeah, I'm excited to see what you know,
Gannon can do if he can get some actual weapons
out there.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
I am excited just to see how this NFC West
turns out.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Make your pick right now, right now, who got winning
it right now?
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Again, I can't roll out the forty even though I
think they're broken.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
I'm gonna take San Francisco. Yeah, I'll take because only
one team's gonna make it out this division.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
So San Francisco I'm gonna take. Let me look at
the Seahawks schedule second, one second?
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Got it on?
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Yeah, the Seahawks. It's not gonna be easy for them. There.
They got the Rams, the Vikings, the Packers, the Cardinals,
the Jets, which we weren't we're not talking about the Jets.
With the Jets, like again, you don't know what your
Jets you're gonna get. No, are you gonna get a
Jets team that's playing defense or one that's not?
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Oh no, you're gonna get a Jets team planned nothing
at that point? What game? What game is that? Fifteen? Sixteen?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Is next week?
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Next week?
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah it was next week. Okay, they'll be playing hot
so you know they don't have the easiest, I think, schedule,
So it's hard to rule out the forty nine ers.
Who are you taking to winnes West?
Speaker 3 (28:12):
I'm going to take I'm going to take the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Now I think you're going to take the Seahawks at
this point.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Okay, I just think McDonald's a really great coach and
he's going to have the defense and they are playing
better now they are. If the defense plays that way,
I see Seattle being able to narrowly escape and win
that division. And I don't know why I just said that.
It just came to me, but you know, I'm going
to stick.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
With it, all right, Yeah, all right, Well it's a
mess and we can't wait to see how it ends.
But uh, on the other side, I think we need
to talk a little Max Crosby here. I don't know
if we are actually giving credit to this man and
what he does for a team that not much to
talk about or get excited about, the Raiders, But Max,
(28:55):
there we go. Did did the listeners hear that? Or
was just that you in my ear? In my ear?
So that was our technical producer at Ryan Smith telling
me to watch my mouth. As I said, the Raiders
aren't really something positive, very hard, it's very hard to
talk about it. But Max Crosby is a definite star
when it comes to the Raiders, and we're going to
talk about that. On the other side, this is Fox
(29:16):
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Okay, Carrie, you should record a Christmas song.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Fuck?
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Oh huh, thrown up? Be together?
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Okay, get it.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
This Christmas fire aside is blazing Bride.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Car stop it. Stop it. In case you didn't know,
Carrie Rhoades is not just a former All Pro safety.
He is now a musical artist with a couple of
songs out there that I thoroughly enjoy. The one that
not I had I had help, I had some help.
I love that one. That's my favorite so far out
(30:07):
of the ones you've released, Like I put that on
my phone, Like I like that one so much, and
it's like, I'm very I don't know about you, guys. Oh, also,
welcome to Fox Sports Radio. Sorry, you were listening to
the Doug Gottlieb Show and we are coming to you
live from the tireg dot Com studios. But Doug Gotlieb
is not here. I am Monci Bolanos alongside former All
Pro safety Carrie Roads. When I listened to a song
within the first fifteen seconds, I can tell how much
(30:29):
I'm gonna like like, immy, I I literally you sent
me that, and within tense, I was like, add this
is right up my alley. Add no problem. You thoroughly
enjoyed it. All of your songs have been fun and
easy to listen to, which is part of it. You know,
like you don't want to tune out right away, and.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
That's how you know where can people listen to it? Carrie?
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Oh, I mean they're on all the streaming networks. I
mean wherever you get your music, wherever you consume your music,
it's on that platform.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Just look up Carry Roads. Just look up Carry Road Easy.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Thank you, Thank you to our producer Shay. That's why
come in in clutch, and he's about to come and
clutch one more time. We have one NFL game going
on right now, Chiefs and Raiders. Chiefs are up. If
you're wondering why, you probably can't watch this. It's on
Amazon Prime, so get on there if you want. But
the Chiefs are up ten three. I believe still it
is the second quarter over here in this game. But
there is a player that I don't think it's a
(31:21):
lot of credit for what he does on the Raiders,
Max Crosby. I mean, let's chat. In fact, Shay, can
you give us some of the numbers you were talking about.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
So in this game, he has three total tackles, two
of them are solo, he has a half sack, and
then he's as a QB hit.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
So he's eating. He eats in.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Almost every game. And when I say almost every game,
I literally mean every game. This guy played ninety five
percent of snaps in twenty twenty three, ninety five point
five percent of snaps in twenty twenty two, and the
only reason that number is lowered this season is because
he had an injury.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yeah, so this guy is playing an unheard of Like.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
Let's say you play forty out of fifty plays, that's
only eighty percent of snaps. And that's still a lot
of snaps. And that's guys like Miles Garrett TJ. Watt
who are always in the front running for defensive Player
of the Year, and for some reason, Max Crosby is
always number three four. And don't get me wrong, I'm
a Browns fan. I love Miles Garrett, but when I
saw this stat the other day, it's something that as
a coach, manager, player, teammate, you want someone like Max
(32:18):
Crosby on your team, and it's not really something that's
taken an account when you're doing Defensive Player of the Year.
But he's one of a kind and seeing them right,
like seeing him play in this game. Also the Raiders
for some reason play so well against the Chiefs, and
like it's always a thing, but Max Crosby, man, it's
it could be people falling his way. I just I
think he's a player that you want on your team
one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
And that's such a big point here that it's like, yeah, okay,
let me if you're trying to convince somebody to join
your team. Yeah, you want to have a good quarterback
and you want to have right good receivers in that,
but you also do want a guy like Max Crosby
sitting near you in that locker room who literally gives
it his all every single game. Yeah, the Raiders could
be losing by twenty seven. That guy, I is still
(33:00):
going to try and kill you on the field regardless.
And I can't even imagine playing that many snaps with
the position he plays, yes, that.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Part with the position that he plays.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
So you know, a skilled guy like myself, I played
in a lot of snaps, right, it'd be ninety eight.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Snaps.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
No, no, no, no, no, just the scale position right,
Like it's it's more, I guess, a requirement to be
on the field. But with the D line, they like
to rotate, so a lot of times you'll see guys
not get all the snaps or get the opportunities to
make the plays that they make, just because of fatigue.
Like you're too big human beings battling for three and
(33:41):
a half hours, like hand to hand combat, Like it's
crazy to think about. So the fact that Max does
that and does that at such a high level is
it's remarkable.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
I don't I'm not a fighter. I wrestled when I
was very little, trying to brothers, my brothers, you know,
and they're very They never they let me just hit
them essentially. And like but if I was like trying
to wrestle, ninety seconds, I'm tapping out and that was
my workout for the day. Like I'm over this. And
I was telling you I could run for hours, Like
if there was a zombie apocalypse, I would survive because
(34:11):
I could just run for hours. I would leave you
all behind. Now, if I had to wrestle a zombie Oh,
I'm done. Just leave me. Just leave me there. You
know I'm giving you permission. I'm giving you permission because
I will be done if I have to for one
minute wrestle anybody.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
So I can't imagine you're not being left behind.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Is okay? Fine, let me get get my energy back
and then we'll start running again. Because but yeah, Max
Crosby is definitely the type of player that I don't
think it's a lot of credit. And it's probably because
he's playing for the Raiders. That part, that part which
you can't deny, that's probably what it is. Uh but
you know, Antonio Pierce subtle, what would you create his
(34:53):
job so far as the Raiders, Antonio Antonio Pierce, What
did I say?
Speaker 3 (34:59):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Antonio Banderas I tend to do that.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
That would be that would be cool. I mean, I'll
just go back. I'll just think of the little cat.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Oh, yes, thank you.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Yes, that's my guy anyway, but that's my guy. But
uh no, I would get Antonio Peers a D A D.
And I like Antonio Peers. You know, we're around each
other a lot in New York when you play with
the Giants.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
And so I know him.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
I know he's a great leader of men. He's a leader,
he's good at that. He'll get guys fighting. As you see,
they're still playing hard. But I just don't think he's
a head caad coach. I think he's probably a defensive
coordinator type of guy. And I don't think he's done
a good job.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
I I the reason I asked you about this is
because I feel like the coach of the year in
the NFL right now. To me, it's like there are
so many arguments for so many different coaches. If you
wanted to say to me Dan Campbell should get Coach
of the Year, I'd be like, I get it. If
you were to tell me Jim Harbaugh deserves Coach of
the Year, I'd be like, absolutely, yes, Sean Payton, I
(35:54):
get that, Kevin O'Connell, yeah, why not, Mike Tomlin. That's
so one I was going to end on. He's never won, right.
I don't think he's one coach of the year, which
is crazy to think, but him taking Justin Fields out
of the starting spot, putting in Russell Wilson crazy when
(36:16):
they were winning. Please never one, never one. Thank you
Shae for confirming that the race for that to me
is like again, I don't I don't know how you
pick one. You can you can make so many different arguments,
and I would be like, yeah, obviously Jim Harber because
I'm a Chargers fan and I can't believe that. But
what Sean Payton is doing with bo Nix in Denver
also very impressive. It is And how who would you
(36:37):
give the edge to?
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Oh, it has to go to Dan Campbell?
Speaker 2 (36:40):
But is it just because they're in first place?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
No, just the the steps that he's taken to get
to get this team to where.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
He is context, that's yes, Yes, that's developed development, right,
That's somebody that's you know, really good at his job,
and his players are buying into what he's doing. I
mean that whole team is literally his identity. And when
you see that, that clearly that guy.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Is the guy.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
I get it. And before we go to Martin here,
so I asked, you know, the boyfriend, what do you
think is coach of the year? He said, Dan Campbell,
and so his name was on my thoughts. I went
to sleep and I had a dream that I was
getting kdnapped. Guess who saved me?
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Dan Campbell?
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Dan camp saved me in my dream, bien me caps
and toes, and I was like in a car and
he came.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Up to the car and I gave him like a look,
and then he saved me. And I woke up and
I was like, Dan Campbell just saved me in a dream.
Best dream I've ever had.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
Did you wake up mad at the boyfriend because he
wasn't the one saving you? Or were you just okay
with it?
Speaker 6 (37:33):
No?
Speaker 2 (37:34):
I was perfectly fine with it, but it was I was.
I woke up sweating, That's how intense my dream was.
And I just was like, man, Dan Campbell saved me.
What a great What a great dream. And then I
like went back to sleeve all a happy. I was like,
maybe he is coach of the Year and I just
needed the dream to confirm it. We got Martin confirming
things going on around the wonderful world of sports. Martin,
what's going on.
Speaker 8 (37:57):
At the half between the Chiefs and the Raid right now?
Kansas City with a ten to three lead. The touchdown
pass from Patrick Mahomes to eighty four Jordan Watson, the
receiver for the Chiefs. That's about all the scoring that
we've seen so far. The Chiefs have won the last
ten games that they have played when they have led
at the half and nearing the end of the first quarter.
(38:20):
In the Egg Bowl, All missed with a ten to
seven lead over Mississippi State. The old miss the fourteen
nineteen in the nation, has three losses. This will essentially
eliminate them from everything they've been trying to do this season.
Mississippi State only two win to nine on the year.
Another NFL news, Chicago Bears fired Matt ebra Flues. He
leaves with a fourteen to thirty two record as the
head coach. He comes the first head coach ever to
(38:42):
be fired midseason by the Bears. Thomas Brown started the
season as the passing game coordinator, then got promoted to
interim offensive coordinated when Shane Waldron was fired. Well, now
he will be the interim head coach after Matt ebra
Flues got fired. So three promotions in six weeks for
Thomas Brown. Coltead coach Shane Zyken ruled out Josh Downs
(39:04):
and Ashton Doolan, both wide receivers for Sunday's game against
the Patriots. Jaguars head coach Doug Peterson says Trevor Lawrence
will play Sunday against the Texans. He's missed almost a
month with an ac joint injury in his shoulder. Dalton Kincaid,
Bill's tight end. He will not play against the forty
nine ers. In college football, Colorado beat Oklahoma State fifty
two to nothing. Shadors Sanders had five touchdown passes, three
(39:26):
of them to Travis Hunter. Hunter the first player in
the last twenty five seasons of college football to have
three touchdowns from scrimmage in the game and an interception.
Boise State beat Oregon State thirty four to eighteen. National
JT two twenty six on the ground, thirty seven carries
and a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Back to you, guys, Maryandanky, don't go far because, in
case you forgot, it's Thanksgiving trivia.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
See this is I sold man. See okay, I will
be ready for Thanksgiving trivia. And she said, well, what
is that like? Essentially, what does that mean? What does
okay mean besides okay, I'll be ready?
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Well, because he's like okay, and I was like, well,
you don't have to. If you don't want to, I
gave you an affirmative response. I was like, that's not affirmative.
Martin and so now we're fighting old married couple. That's
what we're doing.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Now.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Okay, you don't have to if you don't want to.
If I didn't want to, I would have said I
don't want to. There's words that mean that. Yeah, was
it passive aggressive?
Speaker 2 (40:18):
I don't believe in I don't believe in goss.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Aggressive aggressive aggressive? Aggressive?
Speaker 7 (40:22):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Yeah. A quick question. Do you guys know what they
call shador Sanders like the school, like the student fan base.
Should Daddy?
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Should daddy?
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Should daddy? That's what they call him, Like some.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Kinds of shaboozy. That is that like a thing, like
it's a tandem.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Should Daddy. I have a friend whose daughter goes to Colorado,
and so when I was chatting with her, she's like, yeah,
we call him sha Daddy.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
It was in that in that voice I saw daddy.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
I was like, I love that. Thank you for telling
me that. That's the greatest thing. Okay. Yeah. In honor
of Thanksgiving, I've put together a little trivia for all
of you fellas to see who knows more random trivia?
Can we get a little like bad music here? Ryan beautiful?
All right? So there are multiple choice for the most part,
(41:13):
and your name is your buzzer. I will just see
how many we can get through here, all right? Who
did the Lions face in the NFL's first official Thanksgiving game?
The Cardinals, the Bears, the Cowboys or the Packers? Martin
Martin the Packers, No, Carrie, Carrie, the Bears, the Bears
(41:34):
is correct? Carry with the first point. It was in
nineteen thirty four.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
I gotta be quick. I got it. You guys are fast.
I got it. I was. Actually I'm not playing bro like.
I'm not going to be fun here. I'm trying to win.
Speaker 8 (41:47):
Yeah, he's got his hot low and I feel like
Mike Tyson. He was walking out through into the ring,
not in the ring.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
I love that. I love that. Okay, when was the
first ever? Well, actually not, I won't. I won't have
you guessed the year. But who won the first ever
turkey leg the MVP Award? Who won it? First? Eagles
cowboy Randall Cunningham, Cowboys running back Emmett Smith, Eagles linebacker
Reggie White, Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
Ryan Ryan Cunningham.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
Nope, nope, carry Carrie. It's what the Eagles though, what
we're going to go with. I got what's the name again?
Speaker 3 (42:23):
Oh, Martin, I need.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
The Eagles that.
Speaker 6 (42:36):
I had.
Speaker 8 (42:40):
You said, you got your name, and then asked the
