Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour two the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the ti
rack dot Com studios.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Tirec dot com. I hope you get there.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiraq dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, the rubber hit
the road just moments ago for Ohio State and Texas.
When we last left you, Texas had completed a couple
of big passes. They were down inside the Ohio State

(00:37):
fifteen yard line. A couple of penalties gave them first
in goal at the one, and this is where the
Ohio State defense stiffened. They ran for no gain. Gibson
didn't gain anything on first and goal. Second down, they
run a tossplay where Wister loses seven yards, which is,
what are you doing doing? What kind of a play

(01:00):
that star get walking? So then they get to third
and goal, there's an incomplete pass to the end zone.
Potentially you might have seen pass interference there, but it
was questionable enough. And then fourth and goal from the
eight before Quinn viewers could throw the ball, he gets sacked,
he has hit, he fumbles. Jack Sawyer last scene wanting
to fight everybody in Michigan following the loss about a

(01:23):
month and a half ago. Jack Sawyer picks it up
and goes all the way eighty three yards for a touchdown.
Ohio State with a twenty eight to fourteen lead right
now over Texas. They are two minutes away from a
date with Notre Dame in the National Championship. Texas does
have the football, they are driving a little bit so
they will have a chance to score and potential on sidekick.

(01:44):
But wow, that one play. You need one play to execute.
Ohio State does it and Texas does it right and
clearly here it is Mike, what did I say? Ryan
Day and the Texas and the Ohio State offense, they
had gone real conservative. They were dinking and dunking. They
were having a tough time moving the ball downfield. Who
made the biggest play the Ohio State defense the sack

(02:05):
the strip on fourth down and Sawyer goes in for
the touchdown.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
And now it's two minutes from a date with Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yeah, let's hear the call on the modern day warrior
running it back.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
You were set to toss. You were dying chased head
by Jack Sawyer. Knocked the ball out.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Sawyer's picked it up and he's running down the right side.
Jack Sawyer hits the fifty yard line to the Texas
forty Sawyer to the thirty to the twenty of Texas.
Jack Sawyer is gonna take it into the end zone,
his second fumble recovery of the season. Jack Sawyer, Ohio
State defensive end. He finally got to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers,

(02:39):
and Jack Sawyer races it into the end zone to
give Ohio State a twenty seven to fourteen lead over
at Texas.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Tackle barely gets out of his stance. He runs right
past him, gets into Ewers, and the ball bounces straight
up into his arms for the final forty yards. I
think he walked.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, you could tell he was running. It looked, you know.
When Sawyer's running, He's running in a way where.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
A guy expects to get tackled, right like, Okay, someone's
gonna get someone's gonna chase me, someone's.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Gonna chase No. No, I just gonna keep going. Okay,
I'm just gonna keep running into the end zone.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
And that should put a nail in it for the
Ohio State buck guys. Quinn Ewers is picked off on
third down. Ohio State with the football now with a
minute forty four left to go, and the best team,
the best roster is headed to the national championship game.
We're gonna have Ohio State and Notre Dame, and still
Ohio State fans are gonna say, yeah, but we lost

(03:34):
to Michigan. Man, it still doesn't matter. We lost to
I don't care if we win four national championships. We
lost to Michigan. It doesn't work. But at least the
consolation prize is gonna be a date with Notre Dame.
And look, we talked about it last night on the show.
Notre Dame in Penn State was a great game, right,
great back and forth. We started to see some offense

(03:55):
in the second half. Was a great punch counter punch game,
and Notre Dame had one last great punch to throw
the interception the field goal. I don't see how Notre
Dame stays on the same field with Ohio State. Ohio
State is full of confidence. Uh, this is a game
where they should have probably scored more, but again they
got a little bit unaggressive when they got that fourteen

(04:16):
to seven lead. But overall, this is a more talented
roster on both sides of the football. You've seen what
Ohio State's defense can do. I mean, look, I know
that Ohio State will probably open as a ten point favorite.
Todd Furman told us that last night. You know, depending
on this game, it might be a ten point spread.
I don't know that Ohio State will even have trouble
covering in this one. It's gonna be a big Ohio

(04:37):
State can go plant their flag in the middle of
the field in about ten days and no one's gonna
stop him. I really, I can't see Notre Dame our.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Guy Kaiser stop And what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Love?

Speaker 4 (04:51):
They should have given that interception last Nay they did.
They screwed him on that one too. But what all
of that to say? I mean, for Notre Name, a
lot of it becomes the all right, hyperbaric chambers therapy, whatever.
How do you get these guys back on the field
like they're missing so many key contributors are down to
the third tackle after an early exit, and yesterday's game

(05:15):
able to cobble it together. But that's just it, man.
For man, it is going to be a tough task.
And it's really interesting for me growing up as I
did in Chicago, to ever say, boy, Notre Dame doesn't
have the guys to match up with a team. That's
generally not the case, but in this one, Marcus frainan
happy birthday and all of his team. They've got ten

(05:38):
days to figure it out. But an impressive close to
this game by the Ohio State defense. You saw the
two drives by by Texas. You know they gotta have
it drives earlier, plenty of opportunities to tie the game
here in the waning moments, and then the big Sawyer
play just wiped it all way. Uh they think about it.

(06:02):
Just boy, your season just like that gets he raced
from a all right, we got a shot. He's setting up.
Look that call on second down. I can't wait to
hear sarkisian zick.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Well, we'll get, we'll get.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
We'll get to that in a couple of seconds we
have Because that's that's the crux of that. That that's
the game right there, That that that sequence down at
the one yard line where wow, you just need one
yard in four plays, and all Texas did was go
backwards like that was that that that's some kind of
stand by by by Ohio State. But I mean, really
it it baffles me. The Texas just all of a sudden,

(06:36):
just boof, we're done. I mean they get they get
two penalties, right, and and we're just watching. They're kneeling
on the football. The clock is ticking to zero. Ohio State,
they're your Cotton Bowl winners. They are headed to the
national championship. Ryan Day is now over five hundred uh
in the playoff. But this no gray in that beard,
no sweat man. Now, I'm all good today, I'm gonna

(06:56):
he's using that what's that? What's that commercial where they
show you combing the stuff in to the beard to
get rid of the gray.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Right, I'm just coming this time.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
I mean it looks so natural. No one can tell.
I mean, Clyde Frazier is going to pop up on
my screen alongside Keith and as.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
A second, I just I look really young. I'm good,
I'm ready to go. Uh.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
It is that this this game came down to one possession, right,
Ohio State with a with a seven point and then look,
the game could have been different, because clearly Texas could
have scored a touchdown and then Ohio State could have
gone down the field.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
No, this was the game right here.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Ohio State had at Ohio State had what they had
to have left in the fourth quarter, they outscored Texas
fourteen to nothing, and that was the game, right Texas.
I told you they were running out of gas, and
they ran out of gas tonight. Their offense was terrible,
and it's this was no, this was Ohio State doing
exactly what we thought. And this is the best team

(07:47):
with the best roster winning this game. But you come
down to that and it to start things off, they
get a first and goal at the Ohio State too, right,
and after a Passerer fperence penalty on Ohio State, it's
a third and three from the sixth. They get pass interference,
clear pass interference, first and goal at the two. The
next play an incomplete past the golden but it's pass

(08:10):
interference again and that gives Texas a first and goal
at the one, and then Gibson for no gain and
the pitch out to Wistner that loses seven yards and
now suddenly, okay, well, third and goal. We gotta have it.
We got to get seven yards here and an incomplete pass.
It's not even close. On third and goal and then
fourth and goal.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
I don't know. I think you weers.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Saw Sawyer come and tried to get the football out.
I don't know what kind of a situation he had there,
if he had a good look in the end zone
or not, but he gets thumped and Sawyer goes in
for the touchdown. I mean, I don't know how Texas
doesn't just it's first and goal at the two. You
can pound the ball first and goal at the one.
You can pound the ball in four times, rights four
four times, pound.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
The ball in. You have a good offensive line, you
can do that. You can try.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
But they get a little bit fancy, get a little
bit nervous. Hey let's try the pitch out on second
in and see if this works for us.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
And it just didn't. It's one yard.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
It's one yard and four cracks and you have all
the momentum and you couldn't find a way in. That
is that is that is Texas Texas thing right there.
I mean I feel like that's a that's a really
big uh uh uh thing we have where all the
teams were looking at saying, hey, they're gonna Texas is
gonna Texas and Penn State's gonna Penn State, right, Ohio
State's offense is gonna day right, like that's gonna. But

(09:27):
that's kind of been the theme of the playoffs so
far in Texas, Texas. At the end for four cracks,
go quarterback snake yours, bring in arch Manning at the
goal line if you want to give some kind of
different look, If you really want to do something different,
arch Manning at the goal line would be it. And
I get we're playing Monday morning quarterback here, but my goodness,
that second down play, I just see it and go,

(09:47):
what are you doing? They're in the backfield when but
before yours even has the football, it was Oh.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
I just could not believe that that happened. I can't
believe that was what they went with their down on
the goal line.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Absolutely in aan sequence again, Sawyer absolutely abused the tackle
that was supposed to at least put a hand on him.
He ran right around him and straight into yours to
force the play and gets the four two into his bounce.
But that sequence of events, right, as you mentioned, with
the third down call, technically you get to call pass interference,

(10:21):
but the ball was towards the sideline and receiver was
kind of held up towards the you know, back into
the field a couple of yards, so you don't get
the call there. And that's fine, that's a good note call,
I think. But just the sequence of not running the
football to bring in Manning, even if he's just a decoy, right,
run him out in motion, take a guy out of there,

(10:42):
do whatever you gotta do. But an absolute pitch thinking
you're gonna win a foot race in those close quarters
is just aseny against this defense that we'd seen flying
around all day long. You'd seen these struggles that they'd
had running the football and bouncing anything to the outside
the entire game all right, early in the in this

(11:03):
one yours under duress, I was a three sacks and
like six or seven hits at the at the break
like all of that. To say, the play calling in
this final sequence and the certainly that second down is
going to live it. What do you think the Minister
of Culture is thinking right now? What is Matthew McConaughey doing.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Oh, I love the memes already have shown up and
it was, Hey McConaughey going to the game and it's
a picture of him from Dazing.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Confuse You, all right, all right, all right.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
And then it's like McConaughey leaving the game, and it's
him really skinny from True Detective where he looks really
haggard and he's like got the beard and the mustache.
It's like, here's McConaughey leaving the game, here's him coming
to the game.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Like that's brilliant. I like that.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
No, that works really well. I mean there's probably some
kind of poetic thing that he'll put up later and
reflective on the season around, you know, a little bit
uh in his backyard or whatever. But boy, that's a
horrid way to finish a big run that Texas had
had and all all the chips in and such a

(12:10):
huge drive to get down into that position only to
watch it melt away just that fast. Wow, what a
huge win for Ohio State and for that defense to
rise up as they did.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
I'll tell you, man, it's in the end.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It's the result we thought we were gonna get, right,
We thought Ohio State was too good a team and
Texas was running out of gas. And as long as
Ohio State can play from somewhat in front they're a
good team, and they did that for the most parts.
Now things got harry and they got really unaggressive on offense.
They looked at a tough time getting the football deep
over the top.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
They had to try to dink and dunk their way down.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
You win a game where Smith has one catch for
three yards, Yeah, I mean if if you said that
before the game, Hey, Jeremi Smith's gonna have one catch
of three yards.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Oh, what's the final score? Thirty eight?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Three thirty eight with Judkins. Yeah, you're feeling pretty good.
We're going to win this game. But this shows you
how good Ohio State is. There's a reason we have
said all year it's the best. It's one hundred million
dollar roster, right, it's the most talented roster in all
of college football. They were expected to be a preseason
I said they should be overwhelming preseason Number one. They'll
be playing for the national championship. They're just that good.

(13:17):
And and here they are. You know, Texas was good
for a good portion of this year. But again, I
don't know if the season got too long. If they
you know, other teams were able to figure things out.
Viewers wasn't quite the superstar that he was earlier in
the season, and Texas really looked they looked like they
just kind of ran out of guess they barely able

(13:37):
to survive Arizona State. They stayed in this game as
long as they could, and look they were, you know,
four players a one yard away from potentially tying this game.
But they just didn't have enough, you know. And after that,
it's a tough one.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Now Texas time out. What do we have a little
less than ten minutes remaining, fourth and two and Will
Howard broke off that run. You could hear a pin drop,
I'm sure across Texas. Yeah, oh, you know, after that
big run, right, stumbling bumbling on his way potentially to
pay dirt. But that was a backbreaker as well.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Well, no, you know, you know.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
And the thing is, I'm gonna tell you this, right,
we have to talk about big plays in this game
that that are overlooked. And I want to tell you this,
This one that that's overlooked is that on third and
nine from the Texas forty one. This is on the
on the drive where they took Will Howard just has
a scramble on fourth down all the way down to
the sixteen and they score, right, they have a third
and nine at Texas forty one yard line. Okay, so

(14:36):
it's already a fifty nine yard field goal if you
get if you don't get any yards, and Will Howard
throws a pass short to Scott and he's tackled twice
like the defender has him twice at the line.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Of scrimmage, and then another another.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Time where he's about two yards past the line of scrimmage,
and instead Scott's able to get out.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
And get seven.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
And that changed everything, because if you're talking about fourth
and nine from the forty one, Ohio State at best
is trying a field goal, they're gonna go for it
on fourth and nine. They're bad best, they're trying for
off the corner right, or they're trying to punt right.
Like I said, that's the best thing. But him gaining
those at you squirting forward on the sideline for those

(15:22):
extra five or six yards suddenly made it.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
Well.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Now it's now it's fourth and two at the thirty
four So okay, now we feel better about going for
it not giving it because we're not giving the ball
at midfield.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
I'll give the ball, you know.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Inside their thirty five inside the thirty five yard line,
and and but it's only but it's only fourth and
two two and a half, right, it was kind of
a long two and so suddenly that changed everything. But
Scott squirting forward like that, that's the that's the play
where I look at and I go, that's the one Texas.
We want that back. That's what we want back because
we had him, we had him stopped, and they were

(15:53):
gonna punt or try a sixty yard field goal, either
of which would have been a great alternative. And instead
you make it fourth in the makeable two and a half,
Howard runs on the on the quarterback draw through the
line untouched, and after that it was all downhill for
Ohio State. That's what That's the biggest to me, that's
the biggest. That's the biggest play because that changed everything
as far as strategy wise at what Ohio State won.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
Love the fact that back to back nights we get
to talk about guys gutting it out, fighting through tackles
for the extra yards. It really was heartening and exciting
to see how much we watched the Love touchdown being
supprud or filmed over the last twenty four hours, right
all the breakdowns of Watch here as his legs get

(16:36):
taken out from watch here as he gets to the
same thing with this one right, those extra couple of
yards to set up what then becomes a great run
by Howard and eventually the score to put them ahead
for good. So, yeah, an impressive run. Congratulations to the
buck Eyes. And I know you've got to go and

(16:57):
console your wife.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Well yeah, because now it's Ohio State and Notre Dame, like,
good luck? Who you I just tell Pam. One of
them will lose.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
It's okay, just just focus on that one of them.

Speaker 4 (17:07):

returning the fumble for a touchdown gives Ohio State a
two touchdown margin. They win it twenty eight to fourteen.

And it's not a college football day or night until

(18:19):
you get a Texas starts Texasing tweet from Pete Futech.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Who's with us now? Pete? What's happening, Bud?

Speaker 6 (18:25):
I mean? Was that the most Texasing thing ever? Like
they had its first and goal on like the one
foot line and they run it wide against what do you? Hey,
that's the whole reason you have arch Manning on the
team right now.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Is thank you?

Speaker 2 (18:44):
I said, we said a few minutes ago, how about
you have arch Manning in the game on the one
you want to really do something, put arch Manning in.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
At the one be.

Speaker 6 (18:52):
For one play. I do kind of get the idea
that Okay, this is not the time to stick this
guy in here and the most important play of the year,
but one shot, you push, push, and you give it
one go and then if that doesn't work on second down,
then you come up with your you know, your best
playing third. But to run wide like that, like, what

(19:12):
are you doing? Caleb Downs is the best defensive player
in college football, and he sniffed it out and then boom,
and then you know, Ohio State with the best red
zone defense in college football. Like that was amazing. I mean,
that was just amazing. Catastrophic failure for Texas and like,
in hindsight, hey, look obvious for Ohio State. But I mean,

(19:33):
it's never a good day when Ohio State people are
really happy. But right now, you know, there's a mixture
of oh, well, maybe we're happy for a moment. We
still lost to Michigan.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
But yeah, it's gonna mayke it beat Notre Dame thirty eight. Nothing,
it's gonna be bad, but we lost him. I don't
care how many national champions we win. We lose to Michigan.
The season's a failure. It's going to be a big
portion of the fantom.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
Maybe you maybe you fire Ryan Day, you know, on
the twenty second, you know, maybe not on the.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Twenty you know, we were talking about big plays in
this game, Pete, and obviously, yes you had the stripsack,
so you had the Henderson touchdown in the first half.
But I'll tell you what the Scott play. When it's
third and nine at the Texas forty one and Texas
has him stopped at the line of scrimmage, but he's
able to squirt forward for seven yards and all of

(20:19):
a sudden, now it's not fourth and nine from the
forty one, it's fourth and two and a half from
the thirty four yard line.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Ohio State goes for it.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Will Howard runs the runs through the line in the
quarterback draw, they score the touchdown, and they're on to win.
That play by Scott if that changed everything. If he
gets tackled he goes down at the line of scrimmage,
suddenly every maybe it's a fifty nine yard field goal,
maybe it's a punt, but just being able to they
couldn't wrap him up on the sideline getting those yards,
Like I thought, like that was the game that changed

(20:50):
the strategy the game completely from there.

Speaker 6 (20:52):
That was a grind and like, look, it shouldn't have
been that club. I mean the final score in history
where everyone's gonna look back and they go twenty fourteen. Yeah,
of course, after Ohio State goes thirty five to ten
on Notre Dame, they're gonna go, oh yeah, but they
you know, one rolled through the college football Playoff with
these That was like the B minus game from Ohio State.

(21:13):
I mean, the thing about how State all year they
never got they never really turned the ball over. They
did it twice against Michigan, they did twice in the
first game against the Oregon And they also never committed penalties.
I think this stat was something like seven of their
last eight games they only got hit with three flags
or fewer. Like they don't screw up, and they kept
messing up all night long, and they were just a

(21:36):
little off. They just you know, give Texas credit, but
because they're really fast and you know, they couldn't out
athletic the Longhorns. But that was the final score is
actually kind of representative of how good these two teams are.
They just got there in a really weird way.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Hey Pete, why are penalties from me pointing and lapping
at you? And another guy punching a dude in the
face the same.

Speaker 6 (21:59):
I don't know that there's certain times to eat the whistle.
It didn't turn out the matter, but like still, I.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
Don't know Henderson's seventy five yards sprink to day light
with off for different Yeah.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
No, the the the one, the late one on Texas,
the pointing in you know, Caleb Downs got you know,
pushed over that when you just kind of like look
read the moment. It's not that bad. He was just
it was just a sometimes you just don't make it
about yourself. But yeah, that's that was a little bit off.
But look again, this is not this is a different

(22:34):
weird game for Ohio Steaks. Again, they kind of were
just the half clickoff and give Texas credit, that's an
NFL offensive line. But again, when I joked that Texas
goes texasing, it's that something works and then they decide
to do something different. Sure, you have five NFL offensive
line I mean all five of those guys are going

(22:55):
to go. They're up for Texas. They're going to go
in the top seventy five picks, fifty picks, and so
your first thing goal in the half yard, like like
you said, if it's not arch manding, I know how
State's good, but you power it away four times and
if they beat you, they beat you. But they got
cute and blew it.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Pete Q Tech with us, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Lifthtirec
dot Com Studios. And that's what I come to, Pete,
is that you know tonight was a de facto national championship.
I really have no idea how Notre Dame's going to
move the football against this Ohio State defense. If I
put the under for their total points at thirteen and
a half, I'll take the under. I really don't know

(23:34):
how they're going to move the football on them.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
But see, here's the weird thing. And all my friends
are kind of assy. I've been texting with various people
today about that same thing. Notre Dame's really good, they're talented.
They did for some reason they just don't get. Maybe
it's because Riley Leonard isn't Patrick Mahomes or anything, but
Jeremiah loves the best running back in that game. Davior
Watch is the second best defensive back in that game.

(23:57):
They have that Kaiser's a playmaker, Mitchell m This is
the best tight end that they have guys and now
that what kind of got blown off in the game
last night against Penn State is all of a sudden
that next man up's got better. Charl Jegasaw is their
best tackle, and he got hurt in the offseason and
missed all year and now he's back and he's a

(24:19):
little rusty. He didn't have to do anything without dual
card or he was put on the other side. But
they they just kind of find guys who kind of
keep playing, So I don't think they're going to necessarily
get to get roasted if this. I actually go back
to your national championship thing. I thought the Rose Bowl
was the Nationals because Oregon beat Texas about a problem,
So that was your national championship. And I actually would

(24:42):
have picked Notre Dame had Texas pulled this off. But
I don't think Nordames with eleven days off, God, this
is last for forever, eleven days off. We I don't
think Nor Dame's going to have it against Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Yeah, but I want to do the deep dive as
to what kind of training facilities and recovery that Notre
Dame can pull off here? Can they get the guys
to Germany and back.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
I don't know, Well they did it.

Speaker 6 (25:05):
I mean, think about it this way. They had Remember
they had the extra they lost like a day and
a half compared to Penn State because the tragedy in
New Orleans, and they were okay they obviously it was
a tough run. But really they just have a good
enough mix to make it competitive. I don't think they
have with the downfield passing game, even though last I

(25:28):
proved a little differently, they don't have the big playability
usually to pull something like this off. So they've got
to muck it up. They're gonna have to make this
like seventeen to fourteen, because you're right, they might not
score a ton of points, but that defense might hold up.
I mean, it's been crazy this team. They beat Georgia,

(25:49):
they beat Penn State. Those are two teams with real
NFL guys across the board, and they got it done
in both games. This is a pretty good NOE name
team that deserves a little bit of respect.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Now we go forward here, Pete.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
The only thing that I see for Ohio State right
is that, Okay, I have seen them when the game
is close, they start daying.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
You know, like that all of a.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
Sudden, the offense isn't as as aggressive as it should be.
And you know, like we saw tonight for a wide swat.
They were up fourteen to seven, and I said, they're
trying to win this game fourteen to seven, right, We
saw it against Michigan, you know, a month and a
half ago. That's the only thing I see is that
if they start to get really unaggressive on offense and
just trust the process for the for the whole game,

(26:34):
that's the only time I can see something coming up
to bite them. But if they're aggressive and they come
out and they play a normal game, really, I don't
know how Notre Dame stays in the game. But there
is Daying is a thing. I mean, if Texas thing
is a fit, daying is a thing. Especially offensively.

Speaker 6 (26:49):
They did try. There was a part in the third
quarter there where they kept trying to force the ball
to Jeremiah Smith and that wasn't happening. And what kind
of got lost in all the hype over Jeremiah Smiths
in the playoffs and he didn't really do that all year.
I mean, he had two monster playoff games. He had
a huge game against Acron to start the season, and
he was just kind of really good, but he wasn't,

(27:12):
you know, explosive killer like everyone saw against Oregon. So
he kept trying to go at him and Howard couldn't
quite do it. Because you have NFL guys on the
secondary for them there, don't be shocked if again, the
Notre Dame secondary is really good. I mean they tackle well.
They missed what Ohio State does, which is a big problem.
So why they're not great on third downs, third and shorts?

(27:34):
They dance way too much because they're used to making
everyone else miss there's so much more athletics than everybody
else they play. They are way used to just sort
of you know, okay, get the ball, make one move
and then you're gone. Well, that didn't work against a
fast team like Texas, and that's not going to work
against the team it does not miss tackles like Notre
Dame again. You know me, I've called Ohio State from

(27:56):
the beginning of the year. I don't think Notre Dame
wins this, but I do not think that it's going
to be quite as ugly because they keep getting underappreciated
and they keep winning.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
No, I mean, I guess that's now the question for you,
if you got eleven days, Pete, how deep are you
going to just randomly throw a dart at the roster
and pick one or two guys to do a deep
dive on that, you know, their origin stories or something.
How do you get enough content for the eleven I mean, well, what.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
You do is you just keep going into the you know,
the histories of this. I mean, you know, fortunately we
get too little engine that could you know, up and
coming programs that you know, God willing, something good is
going to happen for Notre Dame or Ohouse State football someday,
so we'll find something about it. But you're right, eleven
days is a lot, and especially it'll be interesting to

(28:47):
see where the interest is and where the radar is
because NFL playoffs are going to be about to kick
in a few hours from now and all of a sudden,
this was fun, but America's attention is going to turn
at least for the morning game, maybe not for the
evening games. It's on Amazon Prime and like we're gonna see.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
That, all right, Pete. Lastly, who's future in twenty twenty five?
Do you like more? Carson Beck going to Miami or
Kyle McCord to the NFL.

Speaker 6 (29:14):
Oh god, you know what, give me this is a
black group of quarterbacks. I mean, Chadura's fine, cam Moore's fine.
But again I mentioned the other night, they're not Caleb Williams,
they're not Drake Made, they're not bow Nicks, they're not
Jayden Daniels. And someone was saying, like, here's some i
JJ McCarthy would easily have been the number one overall

(29:37):
pick in this draft this year compared to last year.
It's this crop is not good and now you take
out Carson Beck. So who's your number three quarterback?

Speaker 2 (29:45):
Quinn?

Speaker 3 (29:45):
He were was?

Speaker 6 (29:47):
He showed off on that last bay the first half.
He does not have an explosive arm. Jalen nol Row No,
So Cale McCord might be one of those guys who
just kind of, you know, gets taken in the second
round years or so.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
He's on Twitter at Pete feutech that is, at Pete
feu Tech everything you need for the National Championship and beyond.
At College Footballnews dot com all the transfer news, all
the picks, all the previews. Pete is always buddy appreciated.
We'll talk to you next week, Ben, have fun.

Speaker 4 (30:18):
Absolutely, enjoy buddy, all right, thank us, Pete Chah.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
I mean a part of me died today, a little bit, Mike,
when it when I woke up and saw Kyle McCord's
going to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Uh mean Ryan.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Brown's got something else cooking, baby.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
No, we got Ricky Collins from LSU, which is fine,
But man, Kyle McCord is fantastic, and you know that
he was told, Hey, if you come out, man, you're
gonna be one of those top quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
But we don't like any of these guys. You close
with a five.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Hundred yard bowl game in the most yards passing and
all of college football, who do you have less questions
about right now going in than Kyle mcwa.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
There Drew Aller's game yesterday. Help Kyle McCord the man
fruit basket?

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Yeah, I mean you got, yes, the potential of Shador
San and cam Ward, I get it, But right after him,
you got questions for everybody going to the NF hundred
And who do you have the least ones about Kyle McCord.
Com accord might be the third quarterback taken. He might
he might come off the board somewhere in the second
round and helped this be thinking we only had him
for one year.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
Just what it was a great year, but it was
just one year.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
Yeah, he can show the statue to him. It's okay,
that's true.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Well, maybe the Jets will get him. It will be good.
Everything can be fun.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
How crazy would that be if suddenly showed up on
your doorstep? Part two? And then you have to eventually
cut him loose like he did Sam Darnold, everybody else
got a hell with him. I don't want him anymore.
Get out of here.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
A guy who we like to call the Kyle McCord
of Fox Sports Radio, it's special delivery, Steve to Seger.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
No, I've been here and done okay for more than
one year.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Actually, but didn't you get kicked out of some place
because he blamed you for something? And now is that.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
Actually like the Joe Burrow of Syracuse football history.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
He's that was Oh he's gone. Yeah, okay, all right.

Speaker 7 (32:03):
By the way, As we get toward Monday, the twentieth
in Atlanta, college Football's national title game will be Notre
Dame olo State.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
It was just last season.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
People.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
Then Ohio State won at Notre Dame. If you didn't
remember that, maybe you'll remember this.

Speaker 8 (32:16):
I like to know where Lou Holtz is right now.
Ah yeah, he said about our team. What he said
about our team. I cannot believe this is a tough
team right here. Okay, we're really tough.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
That might come up again.

Speaker 7 (32:29):
Ohio State beat Texas in Arlington tonight, twenty eight to fourteen.
It was closer than that. Buck guys with about two
minutes left, get a touchdown on an eighty three yard
fumble return. Let's not forget right before halftime, Trevion Henderson
with a seventy five yard touchdown, Quinchawn Judkins two touchdown runs.
Texas is out Notre Dame one last night, and it's

(32:51):
semi final, beating Penn State on a late field goal.
The NFL Playoffs starts Saturday Sunday on Fox TV four
thirty Eastern. It's the Eagles hosting the Packers. Philadelphia quarterback
Jalen Hurts clear concussion protocol. He will start Sunday. Packers
quarterback Jordan Love is off the injury report. Raven's quarterback

(33:11):
Lamar Jack was voted All Pro ahead of Josh Allen
today it was thirty votes to eighteen. Joe Burrow got
the other two votes at quarterback in the NBA, New
Orleans did not have Zion Williamson suspended for this game.
They still won at Philadelphia, won twenty three to one fifteen,
and New Orleans entered with a record of seven and
thirty one. C. J McCollum thirty eight points, Milwaukee's Jannis

(33:34):
Antinacumpo forty one points in a close win at Orlando.
Oklahoma City won easily at New York shake giljes Alexander
thirty nine points. Sacramento won at Boston. Victories for Chicago
and Indiana late game to Denver, triple doubles for both
Nikola Jokich and Russell Westbrook beating Brooklyn one twenty four
to oneh five. Clippers and Lakers home games on Saturday

(33:56):
night now have been postponed officially due to the LA five.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
The Jason smithser with Mike Carmen live from the Tirerack
dot Com studios coming up next. Yes, we have more
on this incredible end Ohio state wins. They go on
to the national championship, What is next for Texas? What
is next for Quinn viewers? What is next to quarterback?
And what does it have to do with Jalen Milroe.
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

You know, the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon live from the Tirac dot com studios. Thanks
to Pete Futech for joining us a few minutes ago
giving us our big first thoughts on Ohio State, Notre Dame,
and you know when you look ahead. Now for the
Texas side of things, right, We talked about Kyle McCord
a few minutes ago declaring for the NFL Draft today,

(34:56):
just you know, a part of me died with that
because I was really hoping he would win his appeal,
come back next year, because we'd be a playoff team,
Like we'd be in the bleeping playoff with him, because
he was just that good this year led the nation
in passing.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Nobody finished as good as him.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
You know, the three hundred and fifty yards against Miami
four hundred and fifty yards in.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
The Bowl game, Like Kyle got go. Man, it's exactly
who you want.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
The more stance you put out there in the center,
you get.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Don't be surprised when he's the third quarterback taken sometime
in the second round, because nobody finished better than him,
Nobody had a better end of the year, nobody had
a better senior year. Like obviously the the the talent
level of Shadora, Sanders and cam Ward, these guys are terrific.
They're gonna be the first two quarterbacks off the board,
but then it's gonna be a while, and then everybody
else has questions, right Ewers and and Milrow and and Rourke,

(35:44):
and I mean, who else has come.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
McCord is a guy. His stock is rising. Man, look
at what he did.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
If they're gonna say, look at what he did at Syracuse,
he was a machine. He was the best quarterback we've
had in twenty five years. So he's gonna go pretty high.
And one of the guys I just mentioned in there
a bit, quinn Ewers, who you thought, okay, beginning of
the year, he's a first round quarterback and now all
of a sudden, he's a guy that's in the mix
with McCord and Jackson Dart and guys like that to

(36:11):
come off the board, and he's gonna wind up going
to the NFL for the same reason Jalen Milroe went
to the NFL. His stock is still high. The evaluators
know what they think of him, and they like him.
But is he really coming off at a high point?

Speaker 3 (36:29):
Is he declaring for that?

Speaker 2 (36:30):
No, he's coming off a season in which, well, you know,
you kind of hit the sidelines a few times for
arch Manning. You know, maybe you saved your draft stock
a little bit with those touchdown passes against Arizona State,
But wow, tonight was another really tough slog. When your
offense is full of NFL dudes, he's gonna declare for
the draft, just like Miller. Right, Milroe went coming off
one of the worst bowl games you'll ever see somebody have,

(36:52):
but he went because, well, my draft stock is high,
I don't want to transfer again, and if I come
back to Alabama, I don't know that I'm gonna be
the star and quarterback because they might be ready for
something new because I wasn't enough and yours that is.
That is that situation on steroids. Right, here's the disappointment
of Texas, who was number one for.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
A good portion of the year, and.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Here they are coming back, and yours has a decision
to make came back for this year.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Okay, great, and now.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
It's going to be I'm going and because if I
come back arch.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
Man people want arch Man and we're not winning the job.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
I don't know that I'm the quarterback. You would have
to transfer again. If you want to know transfer again.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
You had all those reports about what six or seven
million dollar deal on the table, multiple Big ten teams
and whatever else might be in play. But yeah, coming
back to Texas is not an option. He said the
other day. Doesn't anticipate playing college football. Maybe this game
is enough to where that changes. I don't know that

(37:55):
it does.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
Let me ask you this, does he transfer because you
saw Carson Beck?

Speaker 6 (37:59):
Right?

Speaker 1 (38:00):
Right?

Speaker 4 (38:00):
No, that's what I mean.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Right he went to and he said, Okay, what am
I gonna do here? I don't know that I'm gonna
be the starter again. Carson back same way. I don't
know they'll be a starter coming back to Georgia, but.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
I gotta go.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
I can't go to the NFL because I can't throw.
I'm not gonna get drafted real high. I got a transfer.
I wonder if that's what quinn a need. Transfers again
right here in Ohio state to Texas. You could see it, right,
You see guys that you got six seven million dollars
for Quinn yours. Yeah, I'll come someplace for a year
and go play. I'll go to Oregon to go play. Right,
they need a quarterback. I'll go someplace else for a
year rather than jump to the NFL, depending on what

(38:30):
they're telling me.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
I completed about sixty seven percent of his passes during
the regular season, thirty two hundred yards, twenty nine touchdowns,
eleven picks. Some missed opportunities here and you know, excuses, reasons,
what however you want to play it. His wide receivers
all a bit banged up for this one, but play
on right. All I can evaluate is what what you

(38:53):
put on tape in between the white lines, and certainly
some decision making. He still hasd to go and figure
out what the hell as tackle did or didn't hear?
Did he not react to the ball getting snapped before
you saw? You know, the modern day Warrior Sawyer get
around him and eventually rumble for his eighty three yard touchdown.
Don't know, but for for Quinn Yewers, you know, overall

(39:18):
a pretty damn good season, and as we always know,
teams get desperate for quarterbacks. Jason Smith go back to
Hachemberg at the top of the second round. Sure, I sorry,
I had to do it.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
But you want to go when you are going to
be taken with the best, you know you're not going
to go if you guess what, man, we're thinking fourth
round for you?

Speaker 4 (39:39):
WHOA, I'm going back to school. Then well, but that's
the thing. What's the what's the valuation. I'd be curious
to have a draft evaluator on now to talk about.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Just look at the money, right, if he goes somewhere else,
he'd probably get six seven million dollars in nil. Sure
he's not getting that. If he goes to the NFING
it's wrapped them the fourth round.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
If he's all that's what I mean.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Is he a second round or is he fourth?

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Is he's a guy he's not, he's not a first rounder.
And he's in the mix with all those other guys.
All those are the guys who had better Bowl seasons,
better end of seasons than him, right like that, that's
really tough. Look, you've heard Pete say. Everybody saw you know,
the arm strength just is not there. What you expect
that out of quinn Ewers And you know that's a guy.
You're gonna find a way to say, Yeah, I don't know,
maybe a later draft pick later And if that's the case, man, yeah,

(40:24):
hey hey, U see you need somebody. I'm ready, I'll
show up, I'll be out there. You need somebody, you
need somebody.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Exit out. Yeah. But that's that's that's that that that's quarterback.
That's fine.

Speaker 6 (40:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
Coming up next, the play from this game that will
be broken down more than any play in history.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
That's next, chasing a bike. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
