Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple with
Chris Bruce and Ron Harker.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
But we do have some other stuff to talk about.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
We do, and it is the Kansas City Chiefs who
went to five and oh last night on Monday Night football.
He beat the Saints and Derek carg got heard in
that game. So the sas it's going to be out
and whatnot. And the weird thing is the Chiefs continue
(00:54):
to win, and they're winning kind.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Of in spite of Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
And I know that sounds crazy, but I'm just when
you think of somebody as an all time great, and
that's what Patrick Mahomes has a chance to be, right
like all time great. It's amazing to see even in
the wind right in Kansas City at home or whatever.
If I said to you, he had no touchdowns and
(01:26):
one pick in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
That was the game.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Like they won, and they won by thirteen points or
whatever it was, you would say, wow, right, yeah, did
you feel like, like what do you when you see
him playing?
Speaker 4 (01:40):
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
It is perplexing because he's not as accurate as he
normally is.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
He's still making a heroic play here or there.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Obviously saw that run he had that scrambled for the
first down like Superman when he jumped, but him in
the red zone, being bottom of the league in the
red zone, that's crazy because that's what they did. He found,
you know, Travis Kelce, he found other receivers.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
He would find a way.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
If it was himself running in the end zone, he
would score points. And that's what you had to do.
They had to do. You had to outscore the Chiefs
for you know, maybe four or five of the years
of the run they've had. But now that's not the case.
Now you know, you have to just not hurt yourself.
That's the new formula to beat the Chiefs. Don't hurt yourself,
meaning don't turn the ball over, don't give up interceptions,
(02:26):
don't fumble, and you got a chance to beat them
because they've been in a lot of games lately where
they've barely beaten people. The status is crazy. All the
games they won under seven points. It really, it's absolutely crazy.
They they what is it now, like ten or eleven
games they've won in a row seven points are under
So compliment.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Them for getting right seven in a row.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I think it is a seven in a row, right
seven in a row under seven points. Give them credit
for getting the job done. But that is taggery. Let's
just call what it is. When historically your brain reverts
to them gonna beat you thirty five to twenty, you know,
that's just what your brain is thinking.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
But we just haven't seen those games, and it's pretty shocking.
But I'm here to say, and I'm one of these people.
I'm not talking about lifetime achievement or anything like that,
but that is not or his legacy or all that
talking about right here, right.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Now here, right now.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
And when I look at Patrick Mahomes and his play,
I think of Daniel Jones with a great defense. That's
what Patrick Mahomes has turned into. I know people don't
want to believe it or say, oh Rob, you're being
over dramatic or you're dissing Patrick Mahomes. I'm not talking
(03:44):
about legacy and career. When you start looking at some
of these stats, it's staggering. I can't get over how
bad the Kansas City Chiefs are. You talked about it.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
In the zone, right, Yeah, it's bad.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
How are you thirtieth with Patrick Mahomes and some of
the other players.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
You have Kelsey whatever and players of that ill.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
But I yeah, I do think that's part of the problem, Rob,
is that they don't have the other players that we've named.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
We're used to a Tyreek hill.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
But you expect a great player to elevate whoever comes in.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
Listen, I'm not gonna if you think I'm here to
defend the way he's playing. No, the only difference I'll
say is, first of all, I will like jump over
this thing if you ever say he's Daniel Jones again.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
It's Jones.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
What a great defense?
Speaker 5 (04:33):
Crazy as the kids say, nowaday it just it just
registered because I know I'm listen. One, I try to
be fair and let you cook. Now right now, you
ain't cooking. You barely boiling a hot dog. Now, what
I'm trying to say is I get the Daniel Jones
hold up. I get the Daniel Jones reference as far
as his statistically, but the difference between he and Daniel
(04:53):
Jones is he still finds a way to make the play.
He don't make all the players. I'll give you that.
He's not making many many plays. Used to last night,
that run that gave they were already up and they
that running gets the first time.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
They kept showing it because it was like a.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Told you he had no touchdowns and an end zone pick.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
You would be like, that's all. That's all he And
I'm gonna add to your point to make it even worse.
This was his first game in six straight games without
an interception. So yes, I'm with you. Patrick Mahomes. Ain't
Patrick Mahomes right now. And here's the quiet secret, Rod Parker.
It's been like this for a while, say just this season.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
We're still early.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
Last You can cherry cherry pick a couple of games
in the postseason as well.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
They got They got shut out in the second, the
Ravens in the AFC Championship game, they.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Keep running the ball.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Maybe we're having a comedy different conversation with the Ravens
having won, but they got. But this is another point
I have to give credit to Andy Reid Patrick Mahomes
it on down is that they are. One of the
benefits of winning all the time is the psychological warfare
in which you now dominate. Right, we were talking you
(06:08):
and I off air here twenty eight to three. The
Atlanta Falcons are up on the Patriots, and I remember
going in a halftime and my wife kind of came downstairs.
She wasn't overly watching the game. She goes, Oh, look
at this scors. She's like, Oh, they're gonna win. I said, ah,
this is still Brady. And I didn't think they were
necessarily going to win, but I thought it ain't over.
This is Brady. And that's one of the benefits you
have when you've won all the time. The Spurs used
(06:29):
to do that to people, where you're like, ah, man,
you're only up eight against the Spurs with another seven
minutes left. I don't know the Warriors. We all go ooh,
you're only up ten with the Warriors. That ain't none
but a few shots for Stephan Clay and you start
to win the psychological battle, which is a part of
the game. And I'll credit Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes
that they have won that psychological battle where in that
(06:50):
last few minutes people get weird, you start acting outside
of yourself.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
You don't run the ball if you're the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
So I'll credit them with that that they at least
also have not only has their defense gotten better last
year into this year as well, teams beat themselves against
them because they're freaking out about, Oh, we got.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
To Patrick Maholmes. We gotta beat them, we gotta do this,
and they start beating themselves.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
And here's the Daniel Jones. If you think I'm being.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Like over the top and I'm trying to diss Patrick Mahomes,
here the numbers this season. Mahomes averages two hundred and
sixty three point six total yard. Okay, he has six
touchdowns and six interceptions in five games. Right with a
passer rating of eighty eight point nine. Daniel Jones averages
two hundred and forty nine point two total yards. He
(07:37):
has six touchdowns, which matches Patrick Mahomes, and he has
only three interceptions, three less than Patrick Mahomes. And his
quarterback rating is eighty six point three. There ain't much separation.
This is what I'm talking about. Patrick Mahomes is Daniel Jones?
What a great defense?
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Am I lying?
Speaker 5 (07:56):
No, I'm gonna tell you I'm a lying on beating
three Roger were working with this man for a long time,
and I've been working with him now for almost a month.
And you know one name be fit you know what name?
If I bring up, he's ready to blow his gasket.
Aaron Rodgers. You will publicly defend Aaron Rodgers all the
way public Aaron Rodgers better be sending you free packer
gear and free Jets.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Gear the way you defend him.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
But all of a sudden, But all of a sudden,
Patrick Mahomes, who has done more than's some Aaron Rodgers,
you want to compare that man to Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
The blasphemy, I can't believe the blasphemy.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
No, I'm trying to keep it real in that we
got to live in the here and now. This is
not a lifetime achievement that you.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Be cherry picking. When you want to live in here
and now.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Always want to get on the lifetime achievement. That's what
you do with Aaron Rodgers. And you bring up a
Super Bowl from two thousand and night nine, I'm gonna
defend a Super Bowl winner over a team that hasn't won.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Patrick Mahomes, he's got three of them. I mean he's
currently got two.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
I'm not gonna defend him when he has When Daniel
Jones has less interceptions and the same quarterback with Daniel Jones,
as we think of, is the low of the low.
There ain't no way they should ever be on par,
not for a game, not for five games. They should
never be on par. You know, years up here and
Daniel Jones is down here.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Keep it that way. Do you know who would sit
here right now and be cringeworthy? Daniel Jones will.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Be like ight, I know, because Daniel Jones will be right,
You're like, all r right.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
You probably make more money than Mahomes because he took
a bag contract too. By the way, James making Daniel
Joes making like forty million dollars.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
Which you're furthering my point, Daniel Jones, the fact that
he's making anywhere near the.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Same as Patrick Mahomes is blasphemy. I believe now. That's
because I completely get your point. Back as far as
Patrick Mahomes look.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
At and you just brought it up last year was
bad too. What do you have, Rob g sixteen seventeen interceptions.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Last year was rough to listen, he's something I and
he's he's acknowledged that something's off. He said that he's
every week he's still, you know, working on the fundamentals,
working on his mechanics. But I'm curious with like Andy
Reid would even say, you know, like, what is off?
Speaker 4 (10:08):
What do you see? What is going on?
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Maybe it's that Kermit the Frog doll that the Raiders have.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Maybe maybe it was a voodoo Do you remember that?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:15):
I don't remember that. Was it a voodoo do?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
I was shocked that they were mocking him.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I thought, Wow, the Raiders got some nerve to mock
Patrick Mahomes would have would have Kermit the Frog.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
And then that man went ahead one another title and
now they don't even know who the coach is. Coach
liking video DeVante Adams went out of there, Robie laughing
and paint over there.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
And here it is Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs ranked
thirtieth in red zone efficiency.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker week days at seven
pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app so.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Much to do, so little time. Let's get it started. Uh,
let's start with.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
The Aaron Rodgers Robert s Uh Salah with the fire coach.
And you know there's stories out there all over the place.
We do have the sound Robbgie, Okay, you got yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Let's so. Aaron Rodgers was on what happened back.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Earlier and he answered the question everybody wanted to know,
did he have anything to do with the firing of Salah.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Here's what he had to say.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
As far as any of the ridiculous allegations out there,
I'm not going to spend more than one sentence in
response to it, and that is that I resent any
of those accusations because they're patently false. And it's interesting
the amount of power that people think that I have,
which I don't.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
All right, first of all, stop with it. I don't
have this much power. Stop it right there. You literally
have the offensive coordinator of your choice. You literally brought
in receivers and other plays. Randall Cobb was at home
having some corn on the cops, sitting there chilling, and
got a call, Hey, Aaron wants you to come play
football again. He's like, oh right, now, maybe I gotta go.
Aaron wants me back, so stop backing like you have power.
And the owner called you before he let Sala go.
(12:01):
Now I believe it when he says that maybe he
didn't say the words fire him or I don't want him.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
I do believe that. I do believe that.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
But Rob, we've all been in that situation where your
silence is deafening. And if he wasn't screaming out low man, listen,
we're as we talked about. We're right there. The division
is if our taking. If we win Monday, we're three
and two, we're number one in the division. We're tops
of the division. I'm feeling good. Ree and Rob are
great friends. We got some building. We're heading the right direction.
(12:30):
Then one, hey Johnson goes, you know what, all right? May,
all right, you know what, fine, Let's ride this thing
on a few more weeks to see how it goes.
You know that there's no way he goes in there.
And if Aaron Rodgers is singing the praises Robert Sala
turns around and fires Robert Salah, so stop it. So
the silence was deafening. He did he utter the words?
Probably not but he absolutely did not not say don't
(12:51):
fire him, keep him. He's my guy.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Here's my issue with you me yes for real.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
First of all, and I'm glad you said that you
didn't don't know that he said said the words because
nobody knew, but a lot of people think they know
and they that's irresponsible. Unless you heard a tape or
you were in the room, you do not know what
was said. So you got to honor the man's word
that he didn't say that. Okay, unless you have proof.
(13:19):
Number two, save Robert Sala for what Why does Aaron
Rodgers they have three years worth of material to fire him.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
He didn't get fired.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
He didn't get fired like the offensive coordinator who was
in Denver, right, can't hack it one year? Like he
got fired in one year because everybody was obvious he
can't handle the job. So what don't make it like
Robert Sala's been there for five minutes and they don't
have any They have a laundry list of stuff on
(13:55):
the way handled. There was even a situation where Robert
Sala was sing some radio guy in New York bad
mouthing the team that was a coach. I mean, they
do they do suck. So I can see him. I
don't think he think the text message is gonna get
out there. Well, but but how do you feel the
coach man, my team sucks? Well, there you go. And
then and then he goes on the radio and lets
(14:15):
everybody knows what he says.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Listen messages in these and he's liking social media posts
getting these coaches in trouble.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Well, because it's just silly that you would do that,
especially uh. And my point is that there is no
saving what Leona comes in and he hired the guy,
and he let and he let him stay there through
a couple of really bad.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Years, and and and he and he.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Turned the other way. Okay, let's see what he do.
Let's see what happens when Aaron Rodgers gets back. I'm sorry,
I can't cry a river of tears for Robert. Yeah,
as if he was wrong or or he had he
really was a really good coach.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
I don't see him getting another head coaching, John, I
really don't.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
One of the things that I think we're also is happening.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
So there's ten executives and coaching is the athletic They
interviewed and pulled them about the jet situation, and none
of the ten believes Solid deserved to be fired so quickly,
and motion in a fraternity there as agree that Woody
Johnson made an interrational decision.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Said, yeah, you can't always go by those guys because
they have something. They're all been in that job and
they know how hard it is, and they stick up
for each other, just like you go to coaches and said,
if so and so deserved to be fired, No, he's
a really good coach, and in this I've never seen
a coach.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
So I'm trying to throw this at you because this
is the conversation. I get your point for sure, But
to what we discussed yesterday, one of them said that
one of the execs said, went on Monday at home
against Buffalo, and you're in first place.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
So they're saying, you mess around me in first place.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
Teams had in the right direction, why would you fire
the guy that's been a part of that head of
getting you in the right direction. And another one was
also kind of saying, echoing the same thing that I've
been saying, that they're not surprised by the timing. They're
not surprised by him being let go. More so the
timing of it. Like I told you, I don't think
he was gonna be there forever. He wasn't the end
all be all. I just think it's again, I don't
(16:11):
like the naivet of Aaron Rodgers kind of acting as if,
oh man, I don't know anything, I had nothing to
do with that.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
That I don't like.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
And as you somebody who's always like to nitpick on
Lebron you know, good and well Lebron James when coaches
are let go and it's oh man, I ain't even
know I Oh well, I have. Nobody's saying that you
literally signed the death certificate. But absolutely you weigh that much.
You we put so much on you and said hey,
we're rolling with you that you absolutely have input. And
(16:38):
if he were to say, I'm telling you, miss Johnson,
we're heading the right direction.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
We got this thing going on, well why would he
say that? But that's fine with me.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
I just.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
He got to save him.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Where's the evidence that he should say that when this
team has been bad and they're off to a bad starter.
I'm gonna tell you, yeah, but that But the naive
is the idea that coaches and general managers are going
to call out people in their own fraternity. They never
(17:10):
do it. The only coach who was the coach from
the Broncos, wait what era who came from the Saints,
Rob g Sean Payton. Sean Payton was the only one
who who like dissed Nathaniel Hackett like big public. You
never see that absolutely, ever, ever, ever. So all I'm
(17:32):
saying is you can't go to those guys for input
because they've all been there, they've all been fired, and
they always.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Say, well, they're my fault and the player the big
issue though, Robbers, they're just saying wood Giant it was.
This was a part of it is that Woody Johnson
never does this. He never fires anybody mid season. Uh,
and he's never done this before. Why now?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
And so right now is he has a forty year
old quarterback and the season is on the brink and
they have a chance to turn it around before it
gets too late.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
So what do you want to do?
Speaker 1 (18:02):
You want to lose the Buffalo, lose another game and
then the season.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
That's the only issue. I'm absolutely with you. If you
said we're doing this because Bill Kller is coming back,
or you know, uh, Bill Belichick is coming in, right
Now to me, it's like, all right, you let him
go with an interim who is a defensive minded coach,
who's his protege.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
So it's like, you let him go with what plan. Absolutely,
coach some hear.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Of anything, but sometimes it's additioned by subtraction.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
And it ain't always.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
It ain't always because the other guy is just a
defensive mind co head. Coaches come from both schools offense
and defense. But can you lead men? Are you a
better communicator? Can you deal with people? Maybe there were
other things on how he dealt with staff.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
We were just players.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
We were just you don't know the intel.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
We were just told by Aaron Rodgers just less than
a week ago, how they're great friends and that's my guy,
and yeah, I'm we are a one, we get along great,
we're this and then now this. So they have their
they have absolutely right to do that. I'm not gonna
act like that. He is again some Andy Reid, some
Dan Parson.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
My issue is.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
That if you told me they made a mistake and
he's going to be snapped up and someone's going to
hire him for another job tomorrow, then I would buy
into that. But I just don't buy into that I
never thought he was a head coach. I didn't never
for one minute, So I'm not surprised. The only reason
he got to stick around after last years because Aaron
Rodgers got hurt.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Oh yeah, that was a less see. But that's the
only reason.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
So is it not fair to at least say he
ain't even had a full season with Aaron Rodgers. He's
had five games and they're two and three, and they're
right at an option a chance to win the division
come Monday. You could say it is fair to say, man,
can the man get a full season with Aaron Rodgers?
The whole reason we up ended this thing? What's for
Ann Rodgers? Can he get a shot with him?
Speaker 4 (20:04):
No? I can't get a five game No, you can't
even get a third of a season.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
No, because at some point, when you realize what I
realized it, when you realize it's done, it's done. He's
over money. You don't have to wait. No, I'm talking
about with Robert Salah. Once it's done, you don't wait.
You don't go well, can hey, hey, you know what
I'm gonna fire?
Speaker 4 (20:24):
You Can you wait? Can you years ago?
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Can we wait till Christmas? Can I cannot wait till
the end of the year.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Let's go up.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
No, I want you out the building when they fire you.
They asked you to leave immediately. We talk about it
all the time. Get your stuff. No you can't stay
at the end. No you can't. Thank Kelvin and TV.
You got a contract. You know you can't get that
last show. Let me tell y'all something. There's no last
show on radio. You're done. No, you can't say goodbye
(20:54):
to your to your audience that you built over the
last ten years.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
It happens in all real.
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Man, was there a year ago, I'm yere before that,
and then the year he finally gets the missing piece
of them winning something, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Now he's got to go make it make sense.
Speaker 2 (21:10):

Speaker 1 (21:22):
All right, let's talk about brock Perty you're ready to
give him a seventy million dollars.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
You've seen enough. He's the greatest quarterback.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Ever, explained, all time, the goat, the greatest thing ever.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
Pay the manness money. Like they said in rounders.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
No. Look, I just think he has done everything we've
asked of him and almost feels like we keep pushing
the goalpost, you know. And I don't mean literally you
and I but just you. Hey, Well maybe he locked
into it. It was a situation where he fell into
a good sitch.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Okay, cool boom. All I've done is ball.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
Got you to an NFC Championship game, got you to
a Super Bowl, and was actually up in the Super Bowl.
Well well, well just assistem, Okay, then a bunch of
players go out. This year, he's still balling and putting
up big numbers and keeping them afloat until everyone's back.
And so I mean, this guy's like what it's like, Alex.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
You got my tyres? What more do you want from me?
Speaker 5 (22:14):
That's what I feel like it is for him, Like
what more do we want from him? If you look
at the numbers rob he's put up last season and
end of this season, he set franchise record for passing
yards and a franchise with two of the great quarterbacks
of all time, Steve.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Young and Joe Montana.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Has a game changed at all since then?
Speaker 1 (22:33):
I'm just just I'm not trying to no no, I'm
not if the game has changed, right, I just anybody
of plays now are destroying the numbers that the greats
then't throw the ball like this.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
But he's doing he's putting up to say, he's putting
the up numbers and leading the passing and leading the
league currently where everybody is passing.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
So it's one of those things where I'm like, I
honestly don't get what more people want from this man?
He wins, he's uh, there's no drama.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
He seems to be a great leader from all accounts,
and guys love to play for him. You heard Deebo
Samuel you at your back. You had a great game.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
What was it?
Speaker 5 (23:07):
He said, brock party, That's all he said. So for me,
this guy's about to break the bank. You know me,
I'm not a big fan of I have to pay
the next guy whatever. Okay, that got sixty and I
gotta pay him sixty eight. But somewhere wherever leading him
in the top three or four, I think he's gonna
get that. He deserves it, And to me, I don't know.
In the words of Tyree's what more do you want
(23:28):
from me?
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Paid that?
Speaker 5 (23:29):
To me?
Speaker 6 (23:29):
And his money?
Speaker 1 (23:32):
What they want is to actually win a Super Bowl
because they've been a good team even before he got there.
And that's what hurts him. It's not that he's mister Irrelevant.
It's not because there have been other people who have
shown up in the NFL. Right, Kurt Warner is the
(23:54):
perfect example. Everybody keeps saying the reason that they don't
buy into Rock perties because he missed irrelevant. Can you
tell me where Warner was drafted? Can you tell me
where Kirk He was not drafted? Right, he was playing
a renal football league in bagging groceries. Okay, And this guy,
the reason people bought into him is he came into
(24:15):
the league, he won Rookie of the Year, he won
an MVP, and the Rams won a Super Bowl. That's
why you didn't have to convince people about Kurt Warner.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
The reason that people haven't bought into Brock Purdy is
because they went to the Super Bowl with Jimmy g
They've been going to NFC Championship game before he got there.
It's not to take anything away from him, but those
are the facts. Had the forty nine ers been also,
Rams could never make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Kelvin, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
And then he got there and got them to a
super Bowl, then you would say, wow, you know what.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
I mean, you would and they said what they've had?
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know, without him, they've had two appearances in an
NFC Title Game and they've gone to the super Bowl,
you know. So that's why people are luke warm and
the idea that the forty nine is going to break
the bank on a guy, especially now that they went
to the Super Bowl last year. I'm just asking you,
(25:21):
say they fall short this year, does that make you
still want to go out?
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Say just say he plays fine.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
I'm not saying that to be terrible, but does that
make you want to break the bank If they don't
even get back to the super Bowl this year?
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Man, I'm go get my slaghammer. I'm cracking the bank open,
absolutely because he is playing well this year with or
without the Avengers. Obviously with the Avengers when everybody's healthy
and they're going again, I look at everything because it's
not just about it, it's the full spectrum. If I'm
gonna make you the guy, can I trust you in
the building? Can I trust you not gonna have ninety
(25:55):
five massuits? Massage parlor ladies filing lawsuits? Can I trust?
Speaker 1 (25:59):
Why does this show on Watson gotta get strange because
he cats?
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Because that's who they chose to give the most money
ever guaranteed to in the NFL history to that guy
that one forever. Somebody's at the dinner right now, just
sitting there like, so, I can't believe we just did,
like what made us?
Speaker 3 (26:14):
So what if they massage just wallet? I just don't
understand what the issue is.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Yeah, it's a whole bunch of massage and going on
too many that's the problem. And I look at Rock
Purty and I'm like, man, everybody can't be Kurt Warner
where I'm a Hall of Famer, Uh, you know, So
I don't want to judge on that.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Well, but I'm just you don't think, But is that
a fair analogy on why there was no question about
Kurt Warner?
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Because I did all that, you know what.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I mean Kurt Warner?
Speaker 5 (26:38):
But then again, look, we gave up on him when
he went to the Giants and oh, you know, nobody
want to know.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Is what I'm saying, Like there wasn't.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
This little prolonged Oh I don't know if Kurt Warner
is the real deal because because he won a Rookie
of the Year, he won an MVP, you know what,
and he won a super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
It was a media it was immediate success.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
But I would argue Rock Purty outside of the actual
last you know, seven eight minutes of of the Super Bowl,
he's right on track with that.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
I mean, he was an envy, but it's still about winning, right.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
And he was until Baltimore showed up. And if you
remember that game on Christmas night, brock Party through four interceptions,
was it should have been six?
Speaker 3 (27:15):
They were like, and that was a bad game.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
That was That was a game we lost.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
To the MVP.
Speaker 5 (27:20):
Agreed, agreed, But I still I still like what I'm
getting out of him. Now I can officially say it's
been year in, year out, meaning it wasn't a flukey
six seven games. You know, two years ago it was
that little running had at the end when uh, when
your boy got hurt and Garoppolo. Then last full season,
you know, oh shoot, he's really like that. Then this
(27:41):
season he's playing well. He's in the top five and
most passing categories again with or without his team. So
I just look at it as again, everybody can't be
Lamar Jackson as far as just that, into my eyes, dynamic.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
He's throwing passes.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
A lot of guys can't throw, brock perty Is, he's
making plays. A lot of them can't throw, even with
his feet. He's sneaky athletic. Unfortunately, I saw that against
my Lions in the NFC Championship game, and again I
have and it would not surprise any of us if
you had an NFC Championship rematch against the Lions and
then at that point, you know, may the best man win.
So I just think I'm looking at a guy who's
about to get They're gonna break the bank, they're gonna
(28:15):
feel happy with giving the future last paid quarterback ever.
Who is anybody else up this year? Because I mean,
if there's one other guy up, you know what I mean,
I don't know if Josh Allen, somebody else, not just
the money, but he's gonna, yeah, he's gonna be right.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
There to get a contract bigger than that.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
I don't know. I don't know. He maybe gets fifty
eight million, maybe he gets. My point is he'll be
right there. So I don't know if he gets sixty
and one. Just to make it a petty thing, or
if he.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
Gets right there fifty eight instead of sixty, but he's
gonna be right there.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
I think it depends on what happens this year. I
don't I don't do I don't think that. I think
if they told or bus is what you say, franchise,
this franchise is ready to win.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
They can't hold it together much longer.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
So I don't believe that if they somehow flame out,
or we've seen them already a couple of games this
year where they gave up.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Big leads in the second half or whatever. They did
go to Seattle and they won last night.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
I'm just saying, you got to take a look at
the entire team and where it is at some point.
They had two holdouts this year. Do you know things
are starting not to be as rosy as people want
to start getting paid. They're not just one of oh
it's cool to be on the forty nine ers. You know,
like football has a shelf life, like a card in
the milk. You can't wait too long and you can't
(29:33):
pay everybody.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Well. I'm paying him, that ain't a question. I've seen him.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
I've seen him play well without McCaffrey, without Debo, without
a kittle.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
I've seen what he can do. I'm sold. This is
my guy.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
And obviously it's my job is as John Lynch and
the GM and all the folks involved there to make
sure we still keep talent. Every team wants to keep
talent on the field, and it's my job as Kyle
shann And he keep trying to be innovative, not blow
games for him, start calling some bad plays, and I
think they got their guy for the next seven to
ten years. And I think if you're a forty nine
Ers fan, you should be fortunate because to me last point,
(30:08):
here's an upgrade between having Jared Golf was playing really
well with the Rams and went to a Super Bowl,
but then all of a sudden you get Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
You're like, oh, there's the difference. Not that Jared Golf
was horrible or bad.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
He was solid. Solids are really good. But you saw
the difference with Matthew Stafford. And that's the difference between
him and Garoppolo. To your point, Garoppolo let him and
they were good and they were solid, and Garppolo played well.
But you see the difference with Rock Party. I'm like, oh,
this he's that next level up where I can up.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Been on him.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
No matter what Brock Party did, what did what Jared
Golf did, he didn't win a super Bowl. He did
what Jared Golf did, and they and at some point
the Rams decided, remember they were in the super Bowl
like they were.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
But I said, you know, he didn't win a super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
What I'm saying you see that talent level where you
go all that, But this that moved on from Jared.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Golf is my point is that when they went to
that Super Bowl, they had the like the fifth greatest
offense in the history of the NFL. They averaged thirty
five points a game that year. If you go back,
Jared Golf wasn't all was but you saw the limitation.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
You saw the limitations, and then you bringing to Matthew Stafford,
who's just now he's just and again Jared Goff is
really good.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
I love him for my allions.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
But I'm saying, you see everything that I said, he
can't win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
For the Lions that were just saying, no, what what's
up with you today?
Speaker 5 (31:21):
Choun So you're saying, let me saying, I absolutely cant
believe I got him in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
This year beating the Chiefs, but they got rid of it.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
I'm saying, but yeah, if you're talking about the Rams, yeah,
because Matthew Stafford is just naturally more talented. That's not
even debatable. No one would argue that. Jared Goff wouldn't
argue that. So I'm saying Garoppolo wild quality. He was
really good for the for the forty nine ers. You
also see all brock Perty is just a next year.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Brock Perty's contract has a lot and is hinged on
this season on how and I'm not saying he's not
going to get paid on how much, and what the
deal is will be based on how well he prefer
forms and how well the team performs, because they could
have signed them. They don't have to wait because you
know what the price only the.
Speaker 5 (32:10):
Way his structure deal, because he was where he was drafted,
they gotta they can't do it early, have.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
To wait till the end of this season. So it's coming.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
He's gonna and that's when he's gonna get paid a
whole lot of money. Don't even worry about it. It'll
happen and it done. He don'ly got to win a
Super Bowl. Rod Parker, that's crazy to think that
