Speaker 1 (00:01):
True.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio hodar kis Off the Record podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
With Greg Preven. Let's have a chat with Midwave Breaks Kilder.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Bruce, Greg, How are you bro?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Yeah? Really all things? How has this year been for
you guys? I know there's been a few tunes released,
there's been a few gigs. Would have been some of
the highlights of twenty twenty four?

Speaker 4 (00:20):
What are we three and a bit years old as
a band? When we first started, we were always like, oh, well,
just you know, see how this goes, you jump on
back into it. But this year is just yeah, it's
been a blast, and I'm playing some gigs with you know,
Incubus and Live that was good fun and a whole
bunch of gigs around the country and release the whole
the New Songs Music Awards nominated finalists there. It was

(00:41):
just just like, oh, we're genuinely like, oh this is cool.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
It's amazing, actually, isn't it? Best Rock Album nominees? And
what were the guys like from Live and Incubus? Did
you get to see them or hang out with them
at all or just be part of the show.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Yeah, yeah, well because we we've toal with Incubus three
times now. So, like back in eight Days, we did
two tours with them, and so we sort of, you know,
we just we ran into the right at the beginning
and just caught up a little bit to said high
and you know the good dudes live guys didn't Yeah
I didn't really know them, but you know, I know
the good dudes. So there's a whole lot of smoke
going on backstage, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
What was there a fire alarm going off or not
that kind of smoke?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just fire alarms.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, okay, good. And at some point, even back in
those days, you've been inspired to come up with the
song better Days, which I understand has a throwback to
those days but also to today.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
What are you going to say? It was just one
of my one of my sort of Bruce moments that
that you know, just really felt really connected with this
particular one, but didn't feel like we'd executed it like
I sort of wanted to. And we set it off
to America to get some ideas and they came back
with us, you know like whoa no, no, no, no, no,
that's even farther away from what we wanted to do.

(01:54):
So it's always just sort of been bubbling away there,
and Paul and I thought, you know what, we're going
to work on it again, and then we would only
have to do it if I wrote a better chorus
and what was there? And I felt I did. Yeah,
we really really like it. So yeah, it's an old
eight song reimagine, but with the thought about today, where
you know, just people are probably drifting apart a bit
more and if they could just sort of let a

(02:16):
bit more go and sort of, you know, why can't
we all get along? That would probably be a lesson
to myself too.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah, it would be better for everyone, wouldn't it, including yourself?

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Eftely.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Well, let's check it out.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
Hey, this is Bruce from Midwave Breaks. This is our
latest single better Days here on Radio Hodarky.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Well, I can't, we can't closer, long fall far, these
words we true overfn Star. Drop all this before it

(02:57):
goes too long your absence peace.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Well, it's lady a haard Archy.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
That's new from Midway Breaks. It's called better Days and
we're lucky enough to have their singer Bruce on a
zoom with us now in Tarna. Bruce, thanks for catching
up with us tonight and sharing that brain new tune.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Oh thanks for having us faces to planner, you know,
really just appreciate the support over the years.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
So just to recap, that was on an early eight
album some twenty years ago. Well, a version of that
song and you decided to rework a little bit, come
up with a new chorus, use bits of it, and
it's the twenty twenty four version of what was back then,
but now it's better days by Midwave Breaks.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, it's you know, it is that evolution of a
few new thoughts over the years, and I just never
really sat with the chorus, fellow, it always felt been unfinished,
which I think back then I was. It was like,
you know, a little bit of anticipation, you know, just
rewrite it a bit, and we always loved it and
just it was it was cool to have another go
at it and really please with it.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah nice. Are there any other songs from that days
when you guys were the band eight? Are there any
songs from those days that you're still sitting on thinking, well,
maybe I could midwave breaks them a little bit.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
There is one other one. There's actually one that I
did when I was doing my solo stuff that Paul
keeps going doing Why don't we just do that song?
So yeah, there's a couple bubbling away. I'm writing all
the time. I mean, we went through Paul and I
just had a writing weekend just this weekend and put
another seven songs down. But you know, I've written probably
fifty songs this year. We just sort of went through
it and gotten down to a short list. And you know,

(04:42):
I'm waking up most nights with another idea or wife,
poor daughter.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
And when you wake up in the middle of the
night and you get inspired, do you reach for your phone,
do you have a notepad? How do you put that
idea down?

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Sneak off into the wardrobe, close the doorside, wake up
my wife and try to my sort of in the
middle of the night voice, which sort of was a
bit of squeaky, try to get the route, note the malady,
the lyric, idea, click my fingers, a bit of rhythm.
And usually the next day when I wake up, I
listen to her, go what what what? What was the

(05:13):
You know, So as much as I can, I actually
walk down the down the hall down to the studio
and just actually play something and pass my daughter's bedroom,
hope to wake her up.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Crag down the hallway. So that's pretty cool having a
studio at home.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Oh it's awesome.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, Paul's drums are just set up where you know,
we basically we come in and within five minutes we're recording.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
So yeah, it's been really really cool.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Actually over the summer before the new stuff gets released.
Any other plans to do shows or anything like that.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
The fest we're down in Hagley Park and christ Church
on the Twinish and fifth with the Exponents. Got the
Festival Lights coming, so if.

Plymouth next year, we'll just go back and listen to
