After 62 years, Sir Peter Snell's NZ record in the 800 metres has finally been broken.
27-year-old Wellingtonian James Preston managed 1:44:04 at an event in Germany over the weekend, 0.83 seconds faster than Sir Peter's 1962 run at Lancaster Park.
Former Olympic runner Tony Rogers spoke to Jason Pine on Sportstalk about why the record has stood for so long and what this means for Preston's future.
