Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sunday Session podcast with Francesca Rudkin
from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
While some of us are admiring the efforts of athletes
at the Paris Olympics, a lot of us just loving
what Snoop dog is up to. Turns out he's you know,
he's actually working. He's there is an NBC correspondent, but
he's sort of turned into an unofficial i think, ambassador
(00:34):
for the Olympics. To tell us more in entertainment, we're
joined by Steve Newill, editor at Flicks dot co dot nz.
Certainly providing a lot of entertainment, isn't he absolutely?
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Like I thought it was funny enough just to see
him carrying the Olympic torch, which knowledgeable people told me
resembled a device, a paper device that you roll things
up and light to inhale, which I think Snoop Dogg,
as I understand it has some kind of experience with also.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
And then I saw I saw his pins that he
was handing out. If you send the Snoop Dogg pins,
so the commemorative opens that he's sort of dispensing like medals,
like they're probably more sought after than the podium medals
at the stage, a little of palpin. It's got Snoop
Dogg kind of leaning his head back slightly and he's
blowing smoke rings. But they're the Olympic rings.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Brilliant.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Probably I don't have that's sanctioned. If it is, it's
great marketing.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
It's well, everyone seems to be loving it. I mean,
he is turning up everywhere, he is trying everything. He
has the best wardrobe. He seems to be, you know,
beautifully outfitted. When he pops along to the equestrian and
and you know, feeds a horse carrot.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah, looks he said, I am interested in the horses
that dance, and I want to give them some carrots
and apples, make sure they're fed before they do their thing.
But then Martha Stewart kind of gave the game away
that he's actually very scared of horses. So, you know,
it might seem like it's a really cushy gig, but
Snoop Dogg's really pushing up against some personal challenges.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
In Paris, and what he's keeping us very very entertained.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
But seeing I'm in a full question and outfit, definitely
something to treat it quite dashing.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
BOOKWM. We were just talking about Bookworm and did an
interview there with Elijah Wood, which has just been released,
and look, I really brought back memories for me of
going to the cinema as a kid.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, big time. I don't have a lot to add
beyond your conversation today. Actually like the Timpson's. Timpson's made
a really lovely throwback film, but it's not, you know,
sort of tinged in nostalgia. This is just as as
you and Elijah were saying that this just is the
kind of film that you don't really get to see
in cinemas anymore. But it's but it's no kind of
(02:44):
forgotten retro gem. It's just a really nice piece of
present day filmmaking that has a bunch of themes in
it and some content that yeah, we miss out on.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, and quite welcome to unpredictable ending.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Absolutely, yes, absolutely. And one of the things that I
liked about Elijah Wood's performance is the film gives them
a lot of license to perhaps go kind of a
bit bigger than then we maybe might be used to
seeing from him in late So his character has to
bring a lot of color, has the kind of the illusionist.
(03:17):
Parts of his personality that are kind of kind of
a bit naff are quite interesting as well. But yeah,
I enjoyed Bookworm and I very much. I recommend a
trip to the cinema to see this. What I can
also recommend, based on a fantastic night out last night
at Auckland's Winter Garden is Princess Chelsea's Midwinter Ball. I
(03:39):
think originally thought it was just a nice way to
add a theme on to a show. Princess Chelsea's Midwinter
Ball had a Twin Peaks theme.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, And as I walked down the stairs to the
Winter Garden last night, it was incredible the percentage of
people that had made an effort. It was magical. This
show is happening again in New Plymouth on the tenth
of August at the Theater Royal. Yep, it was so
much fun going back to Twin Peaks and want to
figure out what to dress up as?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Would you guys?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
I was an agent? I was an Agent Cooper. There
were quite a few, including Chelsea. We got a good
photo with most of the Agent Cooper's At the end
of the night.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I can imagine Princess Chelsea sort of fitting in really
nicely with that surreal world of David Lunch.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah, and some very familiar Angelo Bardella Mente. Julie Cruz
music made its way into the stage last night as well,
so that was really really cool. So yes, if you're
able to attend New Ply tenth of August Theater, Royal,
Princess Chelsea and the Dream Warriors best band in New Zealand.
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Fantastic, Thank you so much. Steve will ketch up next week.
