Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is to keep your holiday lights up. If you
didn't put up lights for the holidays yet, it is

(00:23):
not too late put some up now. We need all
the light we can get during these darkest months of
the year. Like a lot of people, we put lights
on our house in some of the trees in our
yard in honor of the holiday season. I will proudly
tell you that these are not coming down until February.

(00:47):
The winter is long, dark and cold here in southeastern Pennsylvania.
So I am preserving and savoring my beautiful lights. I
love coming home in the dark from somewhere and seeing
my yard lit up. The lights aren't particularly Christmas specific.
They are white and tasteful, and we are not in

(01:08):
a neighborhood that forbids them. So why not if you
live somewhere with long, dark winters, or if you find
winter gloomy, whatever the weather, I encourage you to add
your own light too. If you put up lights for
the holidays, leave them up into the new year. Not
just a few days into January. I am talking a

(01:30):
month or more. And if you haven't put up lights yet,
there is no reason not to do it now. Yes,
even if this episode is first airing on Christmas Day.
This could be string lights on the outside of your
house or apartment, or led candles in the windows. Depending

(01:51):
on where you live, several months of winter may still
be in front of you, so you will still get
lots of enjoyment if you hang lights now well. Driving
home from work in the dark is much more pleasant
if you arrive home to lovely lights. I will also
add that if you have your lights professionally installed and removed,

(02:14):
you sometimes get discounts. If you have them installed on
the early side or taken down late, see you may
actually be able to have lights up for longer for
less money than if you just had them up in December.
And hey, if you need to buy lights, you may
find some incredible sales on them starting tomorrow. Along with

(02:35):
lights outside and in the windows, lights can be nice
inside too. You could put string lights on your mantle
or long curtain rods or windowsills, or the handrail of
your stairs. If your home has a fireplace, build a
fire on occasion, light candles at dinner, turn on the
lamps embrace the warmth, peace and joy that light can bring.

(03:02):
Lights aren't just for Christmas and Hanukkah. You can enjoy
them all winter. So if you have lights up now,
don't take them down on January first. If you don't
have lights up, consider putting some up. You can enjoy
this added light until the earth starts to give us

(03:23):
our light back come spring. In the meantime, this is Laura.
Thanks for listening, and here's to making the most of
our time. Thanks for listening to Before Breakfast. If you've
