Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is to pay attention to the opportunities that particular
circumstances offer. Sometimes we can seize the chance to do
(00:25):
things with less friction than usual. Power outages can be miserable,
especially if you work from home. Extended power outages can
also mean losing the contents of your refrigerator. I hate waste,
but hearing from someone in this situation recently, I was
(00:46):
reminded of an upside to having to throw out everything
in your fridge. You have a prime opportunity to give
these shelves and drawers a thorough cleaning before you go
to the grocery store and restock. You can spend twenty
minutes cleaning the inside of your fridge. It is never
going to be easier to deep clean your fridge than
(01:07):
when it is mostly empty. You can seize the moment
that a power outage affords. Likewise, the easiest time to
clean your closet is in between seasons. After you put
away your summer clothes, sweep the floor and dust the
shelves while the closet is a lot more bare than usual.
(01:30):
If you are getting a new dining room table before
it's delivered, vacuum both sides of the rug and the pad,
and mop underneath where the rug goes. If you think
this isn't necessary, you might pull back the rug and
you may realize this is an opportunity you want to
make the most of. You can seize opportune moments at
(01:50):
work too. If you and your boss are in the
car on the way to a meeting, make the most
of the chance to ask any questions or talk through
any topics you want guidance on. Especially if your boss
tends to be hard to catch, seize the moment when
she is a captive audience in the car. You can
(02:11):
do something similar before and after meetings, whether in person
or over zoom er teams. These are great opportunities for
asking colleagues quick questions or following up on messages you
have sent them that haven't gotten a response. Maybe you
will be able to cancel a future meeting and that
would be a huge win. I also try to make
(02:32):
the most of time when I am in the car
with just one kid. This is especially valuable for teenagers
who can be hard to connect with you. Probably don't
want to force a conversation, but you can communicate that
you're open to talking. In other words, don't put on
an audio book before your kid has an opening to
bring up something that's on her mind. Allow some space
(02:56):
to seize the moment. I like to see these opportune
moments for Erand's too. If you are at a dentist
appointment far from work, but you're a trader Joe's stock
up on frozen rice or orange chicken or whatever else
you happen to like from there, pay attention to the
(03:17):
opportunities that particular circumstances offer. Life can be hard, but
when something that is usually hard doesn't have to be,
we can seize the moment. I am always a fan
of making life easier in the meantime. This is Laura.
