Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is that time solves many problems. There is a
reasonable chance that your current problems will be overtaken by
(00:25):
events or will work themselves out. Not with everything, of course,
but sometimes it is best just to be patient. So
this episode was partly inspired by a random question I
got from a listener who was wondering what I thought
of a particular approach to potty training that she was
(00:45):
considering using with her toddler. Now I had not heard
of this particular approach, but I imagine some guru is
now making their living off selling courses or videos about
this method of getting kids to use the bathroom. I
did not use any particular branded method with my five kids.
They learned at different points and with different amounts of
(01:08):
stopping and starting in the process, but they all learned
time and encouragement turn out to work perfectly fine. So
it goes with many things. Time solves all sorts of problems.
A really sour person might be making your life difficult,
and then at some point they are simply no longer
(01:31):
in your life for whatever reason time solves the problem.
A lot of minor injuries and illnesses simply clear up
on their own. A kid who is unhappy about a
camp learns to be happy or else. In a week
or two. The camp is over. Life feels unsustainable during
your work busy season, and then the busy season ends.
(01:55):
A cantankerous client is creating miserable demands and then they
get distracted by something else. No one now needs to
worry about creating that document that they've decided they won't
be using anyway. Sometimes when people realize how many problems
time can solve, they deliberately delay taking action. A manager
might wait to weigh in on a thread from a
(02:17):
team because the odds that they work it out on
their own are reasonable. Someone asks for something, but then
because you don't respond in the next ten minutes, they
go find it on their own. Hey, problem solved now.
Obviously this isn't the case with everything. Sometimes things start
moving in the wrong direction, then it might pay to intervene.
(02:39):
Modern medicine can solve various problems that don't get better
on their own, thank goodness. But if something generally is
moving in the right direction, then time and patience might
solve the problem completely. Wisdom is about recognizing this and,
rather than doing something, deciding to just roll with it.
(03:03):
In the meantime, this is Laura. Thanks for listening, and
here's to making the most of our time. Thanks for
