Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of I Heart Radio.
Good Morning. This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.
Today's tip is to spend a few minutes daydreaming about
what might be on next year's highlights list. No need

(00:25):
to set exacting goals if you don't want to. This
is just about pondering possibilities. If you take the right approach,
it can be exciting rather than about any sort of pressure.
Towards the end of the year, everyone puts out their
best of lists, the best movies of the year, the

(00:47):
best books, the best albums. There are articles and shows
about the year, and review people talk about the highlights
what happened. All of this serves a purpose. It is
good to reflect on what we have done. We often
don't give ourselves enough credit for what has been accomplished.

(01:08):
It's also fun to think about cool movies and shows
and to debate what was better. That is plenty of
dinner table conversation fodder. But as we do all this,
I think it's fun to look forward to what will
be on next year's highlight lists, what will make next
year's best of lists, and what will we be reminiscing

(01:31):
about as we review our own years now. This serves
a practical purpose for pop culture purposes. Yes, we don't
know all the movies that will be released in the
coming year, but if you spend a little time researching it,
you get a pretty good idea of the big ones.
You could look at upcoming releases and think about what
you would look forward to seeing Which movies do you

(01:54):
think you would enjoy most, What would make your top
ten list for the year, or maybe more reasonably, you're
top five list. This will give you a nudge to
make plans to see those films. Same with any upcoming series,
or upcoming albums or upcoming books. When you spend some
time thinking about what is coming up, you can get excited.

(02:16):
Anticipation is truly a wonderful emotion. You know good things
are happening. You see that a handful of your favorite
authors have new releases coming out at various points. You
might even start planning to read that blockbuster summer novel
while you are sitting on the beach. Talk about a

(02:36):
fun thing to look forward to during a dreary winter commute.
It's also fun to think about what might land in
our own personal highlights lists. What are going to be
some of your best memories from the upcoming year. Now
I know life is unknowable. I thought in early that

(02:57):
I was going to have some amazing memories from international
trips that I could reflect back on come late December.
Thanks to the pandemic, those trips did not happen. But
much does happen, And when we identify potentially cool memories
ahead of time, we can savor them more as we

(03:19):
are making them. You see that your favorite band is
going to be touring and has a concert not far
from you, you decide to buy tickets, and you go
all in on that experience, planning a whole weekend around it.
Since you anticipated landing on the highlight list for the year,
it truly does wind up landing on the highlight list.

(03:44):
So spend a little time this week thinking about this question.
Come the end of the coming year, what are you
going to be reminiscing about? What memories will you be
toasting as you greet the next new year? And not
all of them will happen, but some might. And while
there will be hopefully highlights that you can't even see yet,

(04:08):
a little foresight can stretch out the fun. So why
not give it a shot. In the meantime, this is Laura.
Thanks for listening and here's to making the most of
our time. Hey, everybody, I'd love to hear from you.
