Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, brain stuff listeners. Today we've got another preview for
you of the podcast On the Job. We've run a
couple of these already. The stick is that we've teamed
up with them to bring you a few samples of
what they do, which is engaged with professionals from all
kinds of businesses about what they do, from nursing via
helicopter to private investigation. Through these stories, the team tries

(00:23):
to help explain and explore different aspects of what working
means in our world today. They're sponsoring us to run
these samples. I think it's a good fit because it's
a look into how different jobs work. In today's episode,
they're speaking with a long term employee about how she
stayed with her company for forty years and how she

(00:43):
knew that staying was the right decision. We'll feature some
previews of future episodes in the future, though. If you
want to hear more or explore their previous six seasons,
you can find On the Job from Express Employment Services
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
I think it's a cliche. You stay at a job
if you really have passion for what you're doing, if
you enjoy it. It also is the company itself, their
passion and what their mission is. It's really fun to
come in every day. I'm Terry Weldon, the senior vice
president of Support Services at Express.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Do you have any nicknames at work?

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Most of the time they call me te Dub or
every now and then they call me things that I
can't repeat.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
That's Terry Weldon aka t Dub. And despite her youthful
voice and sprightliness, Terry has been with the company for
a long time, having worked with the founder of Express
before the company was even a glimmer in his entrepreneurial ie,
Terry has been here since the very beginning. So as
Express celebrates it's fortieth year in business, we thought who

(02:03):
better to talk to for this episode of On the
Job than teed up herself to get some insight into
the work that goes on behind the scenes, and maybe,
if we're lucky, Terry can give us some tips on
how to keep showing up day after day with the
same level of passion she so obviously has for her job.
Despite being here longer than Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift

(02:26):
have been alive.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
When you put it that way, that's a really long time.
But I have been at it for four decades. Yes,
my office specifically is a little bit of a mess.
There's a stack of papers, but you always know where
what you need is exactly where you want it.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Terry Weldon wears many hats that express your primary goal
is to support the hundreds of franchises spread around the world.
In other words, she's home base Mission Control.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
And our franchises and all of their staff work so
very hard every day. We have that opportunity to stand
behind them and support them by providing them information answers.
But sometimes it's just a matter of holding their hand
and making them feel confident, making them feel comfortable, making

(03:20):
sure that they feel like they know what they're talking about. Overall,
we say we provide hope, and it truly is. We
provide hope to people every day.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
So no, Terry didn't plan it all out. She just
showed up on day one excited to work. And then
she did that.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Again and again and again and again again and again
and again again and again and again and again and
again again again and again and again and again and again.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Well you get the idea. Did you ever feel like
sticking with this job for as long as you have
that you missed other opportunities.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Every now and then, when you're sitting alone and you're
thinking about where you've been and what you've done your
entire life, there comes a time when you wonder, was
there something else out there? Did I miss something? Should
I have tried something else? And it comes back every
time to me. Doing what you love and enjoying it

(04:27):
is not worth my time to second guess. I've done this.
I'm happy, my family's happy. We're working with an organization
that provides people hope. So there's times that you think
about that and you turn around and say, no, what
else could I have done that would have been this fulfilling?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Well, Terry, I know you're pretty happy over there at Express,
but if you ever want to switch it up, I
think you've got a bright future in podcasting.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I'm still nervous from the job.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
I'm Avery Thompson.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
A strong work ethic, takes pride in a job well done.
This is the kind of person you need. Express Employment
professionals can help because in good times or bad, we
understand how critical it is to manage your business for
today with the right workforce. We offer hiring solutions to

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
