Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, this is Annie and Samantha and welcome to Stephan
when ever told your production of iHeart Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
And we are back with our happy hour edition of
watching Sex and the City Together as it is Annie's
first time and my probably two hundredth time. And once
I didn't like this episode, then I bypassed it. I
think I did. This was my und beended episode. I
would bypass because there is a situation that embarrasses me.
Oh a lot that I'm like, no, super cringe, super cringe.
(00:42):
I hate this. Okay, so there is one that I
will be like, might even turn rug. But yes, as
a happy hour, of course, we would tell you if
you're drinking, drink responsibly, whatever you're doing, be responsible, take
care of yourself, do what you need to do to
get to that good space without harming you or anywhere
(01:02):
around you. Yes. Right, we're not sponsored by anything currently.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
That we're well, we're not even mentioning anything.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
We're not mentioning anything, but like as of now, we
did mention the product in the last one that was
sponsored by them products placements.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
That's true. I've noticed a lot of these shows have
more You know, when you get older and you watch
something you watch as a kid and suddenly you're like,
oh my gosh, just product placement everywhere, right, you.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Know what I've discovered. I know we're not talking about it.
All the K dramas have very specific brands, and I
think it's hilarious. But anyway, there's some surprising product placements
on these Yep, they're not necessarily sponsoring us.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I'm getting more and more outraged by this.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
But yes, we are back, and we are in season two.
We are at episode thirteen. If you are coming along
in this, we are beyond the halfway point, so we're checking.
I guess at this point pretty well. Can you give
us a review of the past episodes?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Uh? Well, the season started with Carrie trying to recover
from breaking up with Big, and in our last episode,
here we are again, she has broken up with him.
He may or may not be moving to Paris. She
decided the relationship wasn't good for her and she was
staying in it because she like paying. I guess we
Miranda has broken up with Steve, so she's gone on
(02:26):
some interesting dates since then that involved kind of an
exhibitionist in will Arnett. We've got Charlotte still looking for
the one and really not striking out in that regard.
And then we've got Samantha who's still kind of, you know,
living her best New York life and having wonky storylines.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Sanky storyline.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I like the word wonky.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
It's a good one. It's okay, very nice, very nice. Now,
this episode's title is called games people Play? Can you
give us what you think is happening in this episode?
Games people Play?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
This is so funny because we were just talking about
how bad I am at this and the first episode
of season two was take Me Out to the Ballgame,
and that turned out to be some kind of fun
about balls that I wasn't anticipating. But it's the same situation, right,
Carrie's trying to get back into the game, the dating game. Yes,
and I would guess, And once again I'm sticking with
(03:29):
my vague, vague estimation of what might happen. They're going
to thank you, That's about where I am. They're gonna
go to a club club scene, and there are gonna
be a lot of conversations about like how the power
plays and relationships and the games people play in relationships.
(03:51):
And probably because I should learn my lesson from that
episode taking out the ball game. There's probably some other Oh,
there's probably some pun that or something that's real on
the nose that I'm not.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Guessing that's it, and good guess, let's go ahead and
jump into it.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
I feel sorry for Big I really do, because if
you think about it, that was the best thing that
ever happened, actually the best, the best, and also the
conversation I've heard these two like, I feel sorry for him.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I will say one of the big records I had,
I was obsessed and I could not stop analyzing the
what went wrong with the relationship. She's doing something different,
she's justifying it and like talking about how amazing she
is compared to him, right, And I'm glad, But my
response was what was wrong? And I would like analyze
every I'm actually surprised my friends didn't tell me to
(05:03):
shut up.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
It's funny as the friend though, a lot of times
you're like, um, hmmm, you say.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
It right, You're so right. It was it was him
all along.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
And in the back of your head you're like, oh,
I wonder if they're gonna get back.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
To Yeah, I can't say anything too much?
Speaker 1 (05:21):
What all right?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Who's gonna tell her? What I mean?
Speaker 1 (05:26):
You're obsessed with talking about big and frankly, we can't
take it anymore out of our lead. What is this
an intervention?
Speaker 2 (05:31):
There we go stop her before she obsesses again. Isn't
part of the whole breaking up process.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
That you get free reign to whine to your friends?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Of course you do, but maybe you should think about
whining to wish rink.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Why should I pay someone when we can talk for
free and then go get a drink? It is true.
That is one of the best parts of breakup is
you kind of have this period where you're like, ye.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Bring me the ice cream, come from me. But then
like she was non stop the point that you're like, okay,
at this point, you do have a time limit, right,
And also this is round two, right, and they told
you not to get back together with them.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Mm hmmm. It is strange when you break up with
somebody who was a big part of your life. Yeah,
And even if you don't want to think about it,
you're like, well, they're out.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
There living their life and may probably okay, already dating someone.
Oh man, the level of stockery would like me going
through their Instagram to see who are they hanging out with? Now?
Who is that girl, I.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Will kill you, but you can't watch their stories because
they they know. And then the accidental light, the accidental
panic to me too Soon Landa found herself with a
(06:49):
nightly playmate.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
This would creep me out? Or would you not immediately
close the shades when you're if you see someone looking into.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Your apartment man immediately staring in, Yeah, and doesn't like
look away when you clearly make eye contact and kind
of flee.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
I understand why you see a shrink, you know, because
you're always.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
In your head.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
But I'm fine, I am functioning. Besides, I don't really
to be honest, I just don't buy the whole shrink thing.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
There was an interesting thing I've noticed in the nineties
where there was a lot of like bad talk about therapy. Yeah,
and and lawyers. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
This is definitely one of those moments of like mental
health was not looked right on in a well manner way.
It was looked down on it, yes, and made fun of. Yes,
but it's very ablest obviously right. You were playing games,
so he was.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
I was just along for the ride, and what about
you see I do this is the first experience dating.
I also felt that way though, It's like I didn't
know what well, yeah, the signals were what was happening?
And then all of a sudden we're having a huge fight, like,
oh my god, I didn't know you wanted me to
be jealous, right, which is odd? Yeah, maybe I've dated
(08:15):
men who were wrong for me, but who hasn't.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
But the thing that I have in common it is you.
The slow speak. Such a stereotypical idea of a therapist.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
I know, I do feel like and I would love
if anybody who is a therapist shot in. I do
feel like a lot of their depictions and shows like this,
I like, yeah irritating.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yeah, slim pickens out there. You can't swing up Fendy
purse without knocking over five little Findy purse. Great God,
oh I would be so out of my league. I
have no idea what's going on that conversation. There are
moments where we've talked. I've had a group of friends
(08:58):
we talked about relationships, and I was like, this does
feel like sex and the City, but not as funny.
That's true. Sports name every female sports sports sign so
as captive heterosexual man, I would walk I would walk
out immediately. I'm like this is a rapey situation. I'm leaving. Yes, sorry,
(09:25):
gay women exist. Yeah yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Also yeah, they had a real frat rovide, not a
way that I've found a feeling.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Look, this is where I would never want to go,
especially if they're screaming at the TV. You already know
this is I don't want to see this.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
I and this is also because I'm not super into sports,
but I wouldn't want to meet a guy at a
sports borg. Yeah, I if it happened naturally, okay, but
if I like, I'm not going to the.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Sports bar, definitely not a thing. What what's a sports bar?
Like I found? I'm trying to think specifically of the
bars that I've gone to. I know like that we
have places where they'll do uh screenings of specific games
because it's important, so World Cup stuff, super Bowl stuff,
every now and again. They'll be like it's the home team,
(10:14):
so we're gonna play it, blah blah blah. But they're
not considered sports bars. So I don't know if I
know of because like even not sponsored Taco Mac, is
that considered a sports bar.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I would say that's a sports bar, which to embarrass myself,
that's where I went for my twenty first birthday because
they had the beer passport thing.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Well, you also have a very interesting generic bar like
Apple's Kroger bar. Like, I don't understand a literal grocery
store that has a bar in it for your birthday.
I'm like, what is this birthday?
Speaker 1 (10:53):
I get you again? All the no sponsors, No, please,
we don't want to be a sponsor.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
That's it. Go So say I met a man at
a sports bar.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Oh, and now she's into sports?
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Who is Marcus? Marcus can be next forward? Now that
youwing has been injured, he really needs to pull it out.
And when did we start caring about basketball? Don is obsessed.
I don't get laid unless the next win.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
And can I just we've talked about this too. I
have a friend who I'm like, Oh, I can tell.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
You're dating some news. Yeah, because you likes have changed,
you have made, you picked up some new hobbies that
you've never cared about before.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
And you if you break up, you won't care about
them anymore. Again.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Yes, yes, so she only is laid when his team wins. No,
have sex?
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Go, that's okay, that's the thing that was on the nose. Sorry,
I'm getting baity.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
I am all over town.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
People were getting lucky.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Seth and I were having a great first date at
coffee shop. Oh oh, and what about the plant.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
It would be so strange to date somebody doctor who's
going to your therapist.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
It would be I have two friends who go to
the same therapist, and they talk about her, but not
to this level. It's more of like how amazing she
is and how they called each other out. But like
I've always thought, that's kind of odd. Yeah, I mean
I feel like you could do it. Yeah, with friends,
and if you really like that therapist, that makes sense
you recommend them, right, Technically, you and I we did
(12:41):
the same therapist about that. Yeah, but we never talked
about her other than us saying, man, she has a
handful with the both of us. I am. Later that week,
Miranda went shopping for dinner.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Oh is it happening?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
This is happening. My cringe part, the embarrassment, my face
is it already turning? Run? Oh my, I can't imagine
what it is. Oh my God, always fast forward through
this here, I'm happy to be here for you. Into
a game of hide and seek.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
They're having an actual game. I knew it was going
to be on the nose. Yeah, there's several games though,
mm hm, well there's always you got to pick out
the four. Yeah, there's usually one for each characters.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Sure, it's true, at least at least four characters. Whether
it's the same thing. I thought i'd be an adult here,
come over and introduce myself. Ah, I'm Miranda. Oh you
know the cringe. Oh my gosh, across the airship.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Oh yeah, right, you're the girl who lives above the
guy I've been cruising.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Had to realize she was still playing with an imaginary
friend imaginary when she was five. Run Away d groceries,
run Away moved out. How embarrassing would that be because
it happened for like days?
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeap, Oh that's pretty bad.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Oh that's my work.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
That's like when you accidentally wave at somebody because you
think they're waving it, but they're waving the first behind you,
like times more.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Because she showed a moment and watched it undress.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
We have all the classics here, clue or cheesy and twister,
literal game.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
I knew it. I didn't know how to put it.
I didn't know how it would manifest, but I knew
it you were saying. It was like, no, it's board
games started. I haven't learned my lesson. It's a long
time since I play twister. I feel like I would
break something.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
I still love twister.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
I did not because it was tiresome, Like I would
just pretend like I would fall, because I didn't want
to be touching people. I'm like, I'm done. Also, how
do you play with two people? It's like super difficult,
it is.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
I guess that's a big trope too, of like turning
a game into something sexual like a poker.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, the sexualizing all the things.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
I had a friend of mine who was playing Monopoly.
Oh no, she said she would. She was playing with
her husband. She told I think, I don't know if
they're playing with friends though, in which she's like, I'll
give you a blow show. I feels sel made this property.
We were like, that is unnecessary, Harry, she committed, that's
(16:08):
one way because bargain. All right, Yeah, that definitely the nose.
(16:31):
There are several Pickaboo Hide and Seek.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Board game sports. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
In the description for this episode, it says Charlotte Jayin's
a bridge club. I don't remember any of that. Was
that a thing. I don't she said it.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
I was like, because I was looking at the description before,
I was like, what, I don't remember this. I remember
Sam dating a dude who was really into sports, but
did not remember that. So maybe Charlotte did. Maybe she
mentioned it. Maybe maybe we were talking too much. I
missed that part, but there you go. Yes, definitely gains
(17:12):
people play. So you did get that part. Yeah, it's
very literal.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
I feel like I'm working, like I'm trying to work
up here, like high functions, and I really like.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Seeing too many meanings in here, and I really want
to be like, this is sex on the city. They
love puns as much as you do low brow here.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Okay, maybe the next one is the one.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
I'm gonna get it halfway through again. Remember Carrie loves puns,
that's her whole thing. Okay, so sick to that alright,
and also rom com sick.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Okay, all right.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
I always always remember the Miranda scene and being so
embarrassed by that whole situation that I'm like, nope, this
is the this is the one that I cringe the
most on.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
I mean that it was pretty brute.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah, especially his dismissal because you can't imagine what he
saw right when she did that, like because he didn't
like he can't tell her to stop because it looks
like he's telling that dude to stop.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Like hmmmm mmm hmm. And she's probably some funny story
that they're like telling, Oh no, poor Miranda, I know,
I mean, what do you do? What do you move?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
You move immediately? But she bought that apartment, so oh
oh yeah, I think it's kind of funny. Again, this
is one of those outdated like therapy is not bad.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
This was definitely a trope.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
The entire thing of the whole, like having a therapist,
to have a therapist, to have a therapist being trendy
as well, and did kind of like, oh yeah, hopefully
they get out of that. Does she ever go to
therapy again? I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
That was it.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
That was it. I'm trying to think of any of
the seasons as she should have.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Well, it feels like it. It kind of fluctuates things
like this between Like I said, in the nineties, early
two thousands, it was very you know, make jokes about
therapists and people who go to therapy, and then it
kind of became like, well rich people. Of course, I've
got my like three therapists and they're on speed dial,
like that kind of trope as well, So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
And then you had the whole did you ever see
What About Bob?
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Mm hmm? Classic?
Speaker 2 (19:34):
What About Bob is essentially this dude who has severe hypochondria,
all the things, again very able, it's very problematic. But
the therapist, who is played by Richard Dreyfuss, his whole
thing is being famous because he writes a book. And
then that trope was huge about only the therapists. The
best therapist writes books and like acclaimed because they write
(19:56):
articles and this is their whole thing. And if you're
really good at therapy, you done this huge like breakthrough
types and styles type of trope, which I'm like, I
don't know if I can name a one. No, I can.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
I can name some books that were written kind of
by people in that space, right, I think.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
We talk about specific therapists then like we're like, oh,
like just talking about religious trauma. We now know that
that was coined by a therapist, so we're like, yeah,
that's cool, But like, I don't think that's the entirety
of the industry. I would guess, tell me if I'm wrong, y'all, you.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Just need to be published.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
But yeah, I thought there's very specific tropes about that
that's like that doesn't make sense in reality.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Yeah. Yeah. And then there's also like the trope of
the therapist who really needs a therapist but doesn't have one.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Oh, and then it gets darks where the therapist always
has a relationship with the hot person.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, fan fiction thing, I.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Mean, everything's action thing.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Oh, We've thought of so many like therapist tropes we have.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I there's a lot. I recently, as you know, I
went on to kind of a creature feature a disaster
movie weekend or watched a lot of like nineties two
thousands movies, and I noticed this very thing where they
were kind of very dismissive. I would say that.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
I think again, growing up in my household, it wasn't
until I left my home so during this time that
I went to therapy, and that I had to explain
to my parents why I was going to therapy, and
they're like, huh okay, And they didn't tell to get
it until like people like that, other people that are
close to it went to therapy and they're like, Okay,
maybe this is this isn't necessary right, right, So like
(21:59):
there's a whole lot of stuff that like yeah, it
takes a minute to understand what kind of therapy instead
of just like because this also goes into that not
that this is wrong, you should definitely if you're bothered,
but like the typical breakup, it doesn't like it's a
big deal, but at the same time, it's treated very flightily.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Like it's kind of a lesser.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Yeah, like this is a joke. I'm like, oh, I
could have problem, you know that type of like trope
where they use it that way, which if that's how
you can need it, you need therapy that way, then cool.
Then understanding like trauma and like the level of like
therapy for that is a little different and requires something.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Differently, right And and yeah, I mean breakups can be
very traumatic, especially if you've been with somebody a long
time and they've been a big part of your life.
And I think that is one of the I think
that's one of the issues that a lot of people,
and I would say a lot of women have around it,
is that you know, you feel like you're it's not
(23:03):
big enough. There's no reason you should go because it's
just almost like you're embarrassed by it.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Right, But I mean this also, this episode also brought
out like how privileged it is. Yes, yeah, like that,
there's a level of you're like, okay, yeah, it would
be nice to have this. This is this type of
perspective that you could pay for.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Yeah they're good now they're bad there, but it's out there,
we know. Yeah. Oh wow, all right, I wasn't expecting that.
We got the Solitaire.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
It got Solitaire in the background. Her outfit even matched
the games, yeah, the Hide and Seek. We got literal
baseball and basketball games. Oh yeah, sports bars, spars bar,
it was all the things. I'll give you another c
(23:56):
you got two, three or I think that's all you're collecting.
The average student is okay, please do not failing. All right,
you won't get into a good school, but you won't
get into a kind of okay school.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
The School of Sex and the City. I would funk out.
You're getting there, okay.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
I feel like you might not get awards, but you're
coming through all right. Attendance oh well yeah, I mean
kind of required for this whole thing, but yeah, I'll
take that and y'all we are again. We will be
letting you know when we do. Our audience join in, listener,
join in for the finale of the season, which we
