Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this episode of The
All Night My name is Jack O'Brien. That is Miles Gray.
It's an alternate dailies like guys, so we go with that.
That one is courtesy of Johnny Davis. The short show
title Master Um and Miles. Let's tell the people what
(00:24):
is trending currently? Tom Brady Attorney Brady again because now
he's leaving. He's by leaving and he's going to Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, which is weird. That is a very weird,
very weird weird. It's a little it reminds me of
Jordan's going to the Whiz. It's like not a very
(00:49):
storied franchise, sort of hey hey, hey, hey, hey man,
what about those days with Mike All stop man and
no for sure, they do nothing but love for the
Tampa Bay Buccaneer community. They had one of the most
fun quarterbacks to watch this past year, Jamis Winston, because
(01:14):
he was kind of a mess, but like was also
good sometimes. He had I think the most um one
of the highest number of interceptions in a season, which
was he was able to pull off because they kept
him in because he was really good some of the time. Too,
so you never knew what you were going to get
with Jamis Winston. Now they've got Tom Brady. I'm sure
(01:36):
he's going there because of uh Mike Evans, who's a
great tight end wide receiver type hybrid, which you know
Brady likes. Gronkowski. I know that you saw that with
Aaron Hernandez. Yeah, the twin Towers. Twin Towers. Indeed, let's
(01:59):
talk about what else is trending. Yang was right, Yeah, well,
you know he was. This has been a thing that
a lot of economists around the world have been talking
about universal basic income. We're basically people need assistance to
live in these economic systems, especially as like jobs become
(02:19):
more scarce automation increases. There's been a lot of talk
of well, what happens when we begin to lose the
need to work or economy shifts away from human labor.
We still need to be able to consume and spending
things like that. So, you know, that was part of
um Andrew Yang's uh, you know platform, the Freedom Dividend,
(02:40):
I believe is what he called it, but essentially a
check to people to you know, assist them now with
the stimulus that's being uh pitched that looks like could
be around one trillion dollars to combat the just total
economic shutdown from the coronavirus. Uh. There are now talks
of people getting like direct pain it's from the government
(03:01):
to uh like straight into their pockets. Um, and everyone's like, oh,
y'all were laughing when Andrew Yang was saying, like this
is something that people are going to need, given like
the way the economy is and how tenuous things are. Um.
But yeah, now I think people are trying to see,
oh that that uh maybe interesting to start doing some
studies on the effects of a u B I. So yeah,
(03:24):
so how much would it cost to give all because
three fifty million people in the United States, so that
seven I think actually, so give it will be for adults? Okay,
got it? Got it? Um, quick maths, real quick, quick maths.
But like how much of the stimulus would be that
(03:46):
and how much of it would just be so going
to giant banks? Yeah, I mean, so there's three hundred
billion in small business assistance, a hundred billion in airline
and industry relief, to fifty possibly for the direct payments.
And there aren't many specifics because Minuchin was just like,
(04:06):
you know, we don't that. He doesn't quite. He's they're
still figuring out how it's gonna work, because obviously was
like like, we don't need to send people who make
a million dollars a year checks. Oh I'm glad they're
glad they figured that bit out. Um, But yeah, I
think I think we're going to figure out what those
things are pretty quickly. Um. You as said, the i
R s will defer payments for ninety days with no
penalties or interest, and individuals can differ up to one
(04:29):
million dollars, while corporations can differ up to ten million,
with three expected to flow into the economy as a result.
So we'll see, um, what happens. These things are just
sort of they they're shifting as it goes on. But
it went from remember fifty billion was like the first
figure being thrown around, and now we're up to one trillion. Yeah,
(04:49):
I mean it's it seems like a thousand dollars wouldn't
be enough for the people who really need it to
you know, it would get would get you through a month,
but are they talking about making it a monthly uh
thousand dollars? They definitely it was like it could be
extended like it may be one of numerous I mean,
I think, I mean, obviously I'm not an economist, but
(05:10):
like you think, there might be other ways to to
to do this so there's less stress for people, whether
that's like freeze everyone's bills and then work with the
companies who are collecting those bills to figure out how
you can make everyone like you have no phone bill
this month, you have no car payment this month. But
I guess the other way of putting Obviously, people need
cash in their pockets, especially when your your income is
(05:33):
drying up. But I'm curiously hear what other versions and
also how to actually protect like working people rather than
bailing out like multiple companies who you know, we're probably
using a lot of their cash surplus two for stock
buy backs rather than sitting on it to be able
to weather a fucking recession. So you think that's what
(05:55):
the people will be using their thousand dollars on as well,
stock by bock buybacks probably And again this is and
you know this is where you do I'm I want
to know the best way to do this, because yes,
we can't just have everyone who you know, for example,
if you work for Delta, and Delta goes down. How
you prevent those people and those families who account on
that income from suffering, but at the same time not
(06:18):
being like, yeah, man, here's also like a check, so
you have to make less cuts. Like I feel like
there needs to be a way for them to look
hard at themselves and just say, hey, guess what you're
you make hundreds you have a hundreds of millions of
dollars in your bank account. I think you're going to
have to not make some money for a while so
other people can live. Because if you look, there are
people who are just laughing their asses off about this
(06:39):
whole situation, and it's very real for other people. And
I think if you have the ability to just laugh
your ass off, then you might have you might have
the comfort to maybe not take a check for a
little bit too. But again, I'm not the president, so
who knows. Right. Amazon is hiring. According to their blog,
they are ramping up hiring with a hundred thousand new
(07:00):
job openings. The company reported it will raise the salary
of current workers and the U asked by two dollars
per hour, which is good, um, because otherwise it would
just be you know, hey, we need we need more
people to exploit, but they are increasing the hourly rates.
(07:20):
I mean, yeah, you'd also hope that they can maybe
give paid more paid sickly for people because I can't
imagine working in a distribution facility is the most safe workspace. Um.
But yeah, I mean it's it's clear that because of
people staying at home, that's only going to create more
demand for things being delivered, right exactly. And uh, yeah
(07:45):
that I mean they should be at the forefront of
technology when it comes to protecting people. Uh. And you know,
keeping people safe from uh from corona iris. Uh. And finally,
Netflix Party This is dope. Yeah. This is a fun
(08:05):
way to entertain yourself with friends. I know a lot
of people are throwing around like recommendations on Netflix and
things like that of saying like hey watch this, watch this,
but this Actually it's a Chrome extension that allows you
to sink video playback and adds like group chat, so
while you're watching Netflix, everyone is like everyone who's part
(08:26):
of the quote unquote party. Uh can be starting or
ending a movie at the exact same time and then
chat like as you're talking ship or whatever. But it's
only on Chrome, So if you're out here on these
other browsers. Uh, you might not have a lot of
luck only on so it's but you can sink with
your and you can sink with friends chat with friends.
(08:50):
But it's not like a video hang out, right, No,
I mean, if you wanted to, you could probably just
use that to make sure everyone's thing is sink sunk up,
and then you could do a Google hangouts. Everyone can
talk shit on video, um, which will probably be fun too,
But I think that's like a fun way to start
a show. Like everyone's like, wait, let's all watch Lost
or let's all watch The Center or whatever, and we
(09:12):
can all talk ship and watch together even though we
are all sort of cordoned off in our own spaces. Uh.
And finally, Nets, the Brooklyn Nets are trending. Four of
their players test a positive according to the team spokespeople. Um,
they haven't said which four players as of this recording,
(09:33):
but yeah, I mean, the NBA seems to be one
of the only places people are able to get testing. Um,
but it does seem like a lot of people. It's
spreading around a little among a lot of people there.
So yeah, and just looking at like the curves and
things like that and all the data. I mean, I
think even Andrew Cuomo, the Government of New York suspected
(09:53):
that maybe they're maybe two to three weeks out from
actually experiencing the peak of the action, right, Um, so,
I mean I'm hoping all of the precautions people are
hopefully taking. Now. Well, you know, obviously blunt the curve
or whatever the phrase of the month is at the moment,
(10:13):
blunt the curve, the blunt one later. Yeah, that's to
curve a blunt. Hey, that's you. And I'm like, I'm like, hey,
you want to hit this. You're like nah, and you
curve no way. Um, well, all right, that's what's trending
this afternoon. We hope you guys are safe staying home.
(10:34):
Uh you know, we hope your loved ones are all safe.
