Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're back, and so is Joel Embiid because his dominance
has the Sixers back in the mix. Joel Embiid ever
heard of him? Famous Arsenal fan and happens to play
basketball for the Philadelphia most famously. Also rookie Benedict Matherin
looks so impressive and the Nets may have figured some
things out over on the defensive end of the court

(00:21):
over there. We'll get into all of that and more
with meeting and co host of the round Ball Rock
podcast Shaun Keene on today's episode, I am Miles Gray
and I'm Jack O'Brien, and this is Miles and you
beat me. It's not a race. It's not a race,
but guess what that time it was and you admit

(00:43):
it and I win? Yeah he did. Um Sean Keene, Welcome,
Welcome to Miles and Jack on Bad Boostie's Man. Thanks
for coming on. Hey, thanks for having me on Fast anytime, anytime,
anytime we're talking. Before we were trying to dial dial
in your random lock it in, he said, you're a
Warriors fan who has transcended into general fandom. I always

(01:07):
like when people take this route. Yeah, it's because if
you were a Golden State Warriors fan between like and uh,
you kind of had to find someone else to full
four when like April fifteen haastened and the Warriors season ended,

(01:27):
and you can only think about which failed draft pick
you were going to get for so long, so you
just kind of had to watch just basketball in general,
if you like, right, right right? I mean I was
a big Chris Gatling fan myself, so yeah, I remember
those years very fondly. Yeah. They they the Warriors used
to have Marv Albert's little brothers, Steve, and he would

(01:49):
always awkwardly call him the Energizer, and the nickname never
ever caught on because people are like, hey, he's the
Gatling gun like that. Yeah, that's a big one just
sitting there for you. But hey man, you know probably
all about gun control and decided to just go with
some Yeah. Yeah, So Golden State came through and turned

(02:13):
things around. And what were you sort of on board
for the for the rise and was it was that
particularly fun for you as a as a fan from
way back? Did you get annoyed by the Golden State
fans as well? Where where where were you at? I
mean the individual thing that bothers me the most is
obviously the fan base is just insane. But I really
hate that there's so many venture capital tectro dudes who

(02:37):
wear super crisp button down shirts to games, like they
don't know there's gonna be a T shirt on the seat.
And then you just got these guys like awkwardly trying
to squeeze into you know, these like three dollar T
shirts and like, you know what's gonna happen. You don't
have to wear the crisp shirt to the game. Like,

(02:59):
my favorite is the tech guy who last second bought
a jersey to put over his butt up shirt. Better
put one of these on when I go in. It's like, fam,
if you would have pulled up in your jersey appropriate
to tire rather than clearly looking like and I put
this fan smock over my dress where yeah but yeah,

(03:20):
oh the tax are still on? Yeah? Can you get
that for me? Thanks? I gotta can I get this
one with extra start actually be putting a T shirt
on over it? And I don't know, I'm sorry, who's curi? Yeah?
What thirty? That seems like a weird number to have.
All right, cool, but Jack, you want to talk about
the sixers a little bit? Over the last seven. Yeah,

(03:43):
so Harden went down with an injury. I don't know
if it fully coincided, but the Sixers have over the
last seven looked like Sixers of old, or at at
least at the beginning of last season, with everything running
through and d and Embiid doing quite a bit with that. Uh.

(04:04):
I don't know if you saw. He played against the
Utah Jazz and hung fifty nine points on them, eleven boards,
eight assists, uh, seven blocks and is that right in
a single game? First player with plus ten, plus five
plus and plus five blocks since blocks became official in

(04:25):
nineteen seventy three seventy four. So so we say he
put in a bit of a shift, huh. And he
was blocking shots at the end of that game. It
was like it wasn't cheap. There were five in the
fourth quarter though. One. Yeah, man, he he looks great.
His turnaround is super locked in. I was saying that
Jabari before, like it's not like he's added any new

(04:48):
move this season, but like just the stuff that he
does that is unguardable, seems like he just has them
really locked in, which I think is good for him
and the philadelp seventy six ers. He also against the Hawks,
which they lost against the Hawks, but put up for
you two ten and six, and Miles, you pulled the
stat that Philly has outscored its opponents by fifty seven

(05:11):
points in and beads on eight minutes and has been
outscored by forty seven points in his thirty six minutes
on the bench. So, yeah, this was my first time
getting to see the Jazz in their full glory. Um,
i'd probably I'm sure Jazz fans aren't going to be
psyched that we're judging them based on a loss. But

(05:32):
they are formidable. They are tough man, they uh Lori
marketing hitting just everything that he puts up. He's got
like a little hitch in his shot. He reminded me
of Billy from White Men. Can't jump a little bit. Yeah,
but just seven footer with super high release and it

(05:53):
doesn't seem to matter if anybody's on him. I'm just
gonna say, Utah has been waiting for that type of
players since Scordon. Hey, sure the one that was promised,
and he has the one was promised is here. It's
just wild to to watch now, how like every teams
like oh okay, so now we got to address Lori
Marken and and that's part of the plans now, and

(06:15):
like that's I'm wondering how much they benefited. We're talking
about this little bit before we started recording from like
the perception of like, man, don't worry about them, We're
gonna roll right through them, like we can show up
ten minutes late to this one and still be fine,
and like sort of having a reconciliation of like, well,
this is what we thought we were up against versus
them really playing now or you think a lot a

(06:37):
lot of teams were prepared and we're just kind of seeing,
like I'm saying, like, is there are they benefiting a
little bit from up like slept on? Maybe yeah, they're
being slept on. Not to take anything away, because they're
clearly still like they're being pretty consistent, but I'm wondering
if how much of that has fed into the whole thing,
because going into this season, we're like, good night, Utah.
I mean maybe at the beginning of the season, but
at this point, I don't I don't think anybody. I mean,

(06:59):
their third in the best and yeah, their point differential
is second best in the West. Like they're they're pretty
impossible to doubt at this point. I mean, sure, sure,
I mean there's got to be something not great about them,
right And I can't be saying that as a salty
Laker fan. I just can't believe what I'm seeing right now.
I just I just think there's something else going on here,

(07:20):
but not it's it's nice to see the big finn
doing it. I really think they're There's just such a
vibes upgrade from not having your two best players loathe
each other the way they did last year, and they
were really not good after maybe like January last year,
like they started very fast and then they stunk and

(07:41):
it really didn't look like they were thinking. But they
never got to the point where they got rid of
the useful player, you know, like everybody got back in
the Gilbert trade was a real NBA role player, and
suddenly they had seven of them, you know, right, Yeah,
I mean it does raise the question I do. I
think a lot of people assumed heading into the season,

(08:03):
their overall strategy for the long term, you know, strength
of their squadron was going to be to tank it,
try and get wem Ban Yama, And now I feel
like they've crossed the point of untank ability at this point, right, like, yeah,
they're too good. But yeah, I mean, I do think
that we're seeing some sort of see change in the
overall strategy of the league. And like you just pointed out,

(08:27):
and Jabari was like reiterating, it was like all these
rotational guys who are kind of plug and play and
they just are making it work by being really great
shooters and just like all playing unselfishly and we're I
don't know, something just feels different about the the NBA
this season, which is a very dumb take for our

(08:48):
dumb podcast, but it just feels like we we used
to have these gravitational like stars who all all the
winds just kind of accumulated around, and we still definitely
have that, but we're also seeing a lot of things
work that hadn't hadn't really worked before. It just all
bets are off, I feel like, and youth helps. The

(09:09):
fresh legs seem to be helping. Yeah, and also just
having a twenty four year old playing instead of a
twenty one year old, you know, like those teams that
aren't white tearing it down all the way makes it
very different. Yeah. The nets are also so I mean
we'll we'll lump them in with the sixers. But they
started showing some signs of life after the Steve Nash

(09:32):
coaching change and Kyrie's removal from the lineup. Obviously, um,
but they hadn't given up a hundred points over that
stretch prior to Sunday's loss to somebody. I forget who
it was, but um, the l A l A Leakers,
Oh the Lakers. Yeah, A d looking. I mean there

(09:55):
are signs of life there too. Yes, that's what we need.
We just if well, I like I was saying, I
think in one of our pre production meetings, I was like,
if Lebron can just take him aside and be like, look, man,
I'm nearing, I'm going towards the light, and it's okay
if you take up and play to the best of
your abilities, I will not take offense to it. In fact,

(10:17):
it is vital for this team that you play out
of your mind. And he did say what did he say?
He saw like an NFL game where like Aaron Rodgers
through a touchdown pass, and he's like, I realized I
had a lot of people counting on me, so I
came out strong in that game. I was like, look,
wherever you get this break, but please please get it somewhere.
He's a Green Bay Packers fan. Yeah, and the Packers

(10:38):
had an unexpected upset win over the Cowboys, and yeah,
that's that's what it took. Um. Yeah, he's he's had
a lot of years where he's before the season, announced
that he was gonna turn over the reins to someone else,
like way back in the Kyrie days. He was like, oh,
it's Kyrie show, and this is the first time where
I think Lebron really believes it in. It's like, it's honestly,

(11:03):
it's got to be someone else's show right now. How
how long do I have to carry I'm carrying to
twenty years? Like, can I just be a playmaker for
a couple of months? Yeah? Right, yeah, but I mean
just back back to the next defense. Yeah, well, first
of all, Curry's returning to form. But yeah, Nick Claxton

(11:23):
that there was an amazing block that I think we
have a clip of of him blocking Paul George at
the rim. Here we go fourteen rebounds. It's Paul George
Claxton up block. It lasted George and Durants like all
bought in on the defensive end durants like, I don't know, man,
I really love that's good. He's he's so good and

(11:47):
he's such a great scores guy, but he's he also
is just like bought in, like really cares about winning
and whooping as he calls it. There was an awesome
sequence they lost to the MAVs, but in the third
four he just decided he was gonna shut down Luca
and he just kind of did for twelve minutes. It
was like, Oh, I guess when this guy knows his

(12:08):
job is this he can Uh, he's still seven feet
tall and really really smart about best. Yeah, because like
since Kyrie hasn't been on the roster their first in
what defensive rating and net rating and how I mean
like how much of it Because a lot of people
are like, oh, this is you know, when Kyrie is
not on a team, like sometimes the teams will get
a nice bump and confidence or they're playing better or

(12:29):
is it that Jacque Vaughan is just coming up with
some nice defensive schemes as well, And you know how
much what's the balance you think there? Um? You know,
I think I think not I think Kyrie is maybe
not the strongest and most intense defender. But sometimes when
you have those like Multistar arrangements, it doesn't work as
well when both guys don't completely buy in. Because Kevin

(12:52):
Durant is kind of enough of an offense by stuff.
Kevin Durant and a bunch of guys who play hard
defense and can make threes, that's a pretty good you know,
you kind of want Kyrie for backup when Duran sought in.
We does episodere thirty five every game. But uh, I
think it's more just that they've got guys with defensive
mentalities and um, you know this is sad to say,

(13:15):
but Ben Simmons keeps getting in Finnel trouble, so he's
not on the court that much. I think he'll probably
get back. He's just really rescued. Yeah, a d and
that Lakers went by the Way had ten offensive boards,
which is just kind of like, I don't know the
last time the Nets had nine as a team. And

(13:36):
currently just under sixty nine percent of his points are
coming from within the paint, and his previous career high
with six as a rookie, So I mean he's getting
in there, he's getting his hands dirty. I keep waiting
for the Lakers to just like go on a tear
um and maybe maybe I will keep waiting, but I'd
like to see it. Yeah, but I hope it. I'd

(13:58):
like to believe that I am. I too, am waiting
for this tear you speak of. I really talked myself
into Dennis Shrewder and Thomas Bryant really changing things when
they come back this week, just because it's like it's
none of those guys are awesome or anything. It's that
they're basically knocking a G League or out of the
rotation when they come back. And that's like Thomas Bryant's

(14:21):
skill is that he's not Damien Joe, you know, like
he's like, they're just adding more grown up to the team. Yeah,
at its stability, right, Yeah, and they're they just shouldn't
be that bad, you know. Yeah, there's just you know
what they think some there's some continued soul searching will
look there and eventually they we'll figure it out. All right,
Let's let's talk real briefly about our underrated performers of

(14:44):
the week. We get a handful of really good candidates,
you know, people who are bawling out and like maybe
not getting headlines necessarily might be worth checking out for
your daily fantasy or you know, redraft fantasy league if
they're available, if you're in like a four team league
like that show was that fantasy the league where they

(15:05):
were like, yeah, it's an eight team league of us
old pals um, but uh yeah, Janice is out. So
Javon Carter put up career high thirty six, grabbed twelve boards,
and a double o t win over the Thunder. Probably
not a lot of people had that. Emmanuel Quickly twenty
four point five assists, three steals off the bench in

(15:27):
a game against Okay, see maybe be targeting, Okay, I
don't know, yeah step one, are y'all playing? Okay? See tonight? Okay, right,
But finally somebody that we'll we'll talk about a little
more when we come back. Benedict Mathurin put up thirty points,
including six of nine from deep, in twenty five minutes
off the bench against the Nuggets. Um. This rookie who

(15:49):
a lot of people have pegged for Rookie of the Year.
It seems like he's paying off on that promise. So yeah,
we can talk a little bit more about that. It's
funny to see they quickly got to finally play just
because the Knicks gave up so many points in that game.
I think they gave up forty three points of the
second and third quarter, And eventually Thibodeau was just like,

(16:11):
I'm just not bringing these starters back in RJ. Barrets
just gotta like sit on the bench. And then all
the Knicks fans are excited because they're like, oh, Thibodeaux,
he's gonna play these young guys. Finally he's gonna Benj
havan Fort and play these hopeful young guys. And it
was really because I don't think it's indicated to get

(16:32):
a game. They gave up in that game, which is
not great. All right, should we take a quick break
and then come back and talk about Benny Math. Yeah,
Benny Math, and we're back and it's time to talk

(16:56):
about be Math. You know, first of all, Indiana is
very are you exciting? Fun team to watch? You know,
up and down, they make great plays. Haliburton is a
great passer and it's great to see him like working
with this new toy that he has in ma Thurn.
And yeah, I mean there's a there's a great sequence

(17:17):
where Haliburton comes down throws an oop to Mathur, and
Mathurn blocks a shot at the other end and then
hits Haliburton for a deep tray. Here we go. There
the game's first nine points, led by ten and the
first quarter. There's something about his leap on that allue
that is just like he gets up so quickly and effortlessly,

(17:41):
just all the wrong and I pushed you up quickly?
Did the cowl because they missed it? Yeah, He's trying
to get math and think of the game and they're
doing just fizzing around. The ball is just fizzing around
out there for the pacers making blocks. Haliburton and Mather
and Mather and Haliburton. Oh oh man, there's some There
are some guys on that team I'd like to see

(18:02):
in different uniforms. But they look great. There's nothing I'm
not talking about anything. I love Benedict matherin because Haliburton
also is zero, right is that his number? Does he
double zero? No? Mather and his double zero? Right? Oh?
Haliburton zero? Yeah? Yeah, yeah yeah, And I always like
whenever I see that, I'm was like, I don't know
why I get the biggest gig out of seen zero

(18:24):
and double zero on the court, but I do. It's
the small things for me. Um, he's shooting top five
in the league of people taking six or more threes
a game. The list is is is shooting fifty percent
well taking six or more threes a game. Michael Porter Jr.
Six Spencer dim Woody. Uh, Benedict Matherin. I've been calling

(18:50):
him Mathurin for some reason. I think it's Look, it's
a grab bag of pronunciations. It's good. I lived in
mass when one of my best friends was from Methuen
and so that's how I got And then Desmond Bain
the Bain train forty five week. We'll give Bain. I mean,
Bain just went down with a couple of week injury.

(19:11):
But uh, like his injury is going to keep him
out for a couple of weeks. Not it's a it's
a week injury. Um, but we got to talk about
him because that backcourt is devastation. I feel bad. I mean,
just when like Triple J is coming back, then Desmond
Bain goes out and I'm just like, oh, come on now,
I want to see it all. I want to see

(19:32):
them with all the shiny things playing together, because yeah, man,
he's he's playing incredibly five and five jaws, putting up
like almost thirty Like that's yeah, they're they're good. They're good.
What do you think of that night? Yeah? I love

(19:55):
that they made such a weird move this year when
it was like they basically had, you know, like a
win team last year and everyone kind of talked about like,
oh yeah, they could pull their assets together and you know,
make a move for a veteran. They're like, no. Four rookies,
the widest rookies we can find, just like we're just

(20:16):
adding a bunch of beef to this roster. Basically, that
seems like it's their their their m O is like
just big beefy dudes who can shoot and dribble. And
that's really the strategy you here coming down draft for Yeah. Yeah,

(20:37):
we just want bodies bouncing off of it. Uh yeah,
um but yeah, that's so. I mean, they remained super exciting.
Portland's looks super exciting. The Celtics. I gotta give it
to them, Mark, Like they I think they're like now
atop of the East with Janic's going down. They're a

(21:00):
evan and three as of this recording, and Marcus Smart
just keeps like he he seems to. I don't think
I've ever heard somebody talk about somebody being really good
at saves, like saving the ball as it's going out
of bounds and like turning it into just a sick
pass that is like leads directly to an open look um.

(21:20):
But he had a couple against Detroit. One was like
he's falling, like he's literally horizontal to the court, falling
out of bounds and throws a bounce pass between the
defender's legs that's like also an outlet pass somehow. It's
so it's like disorienting to defend because like on the

(21:40):
Pistons and like, man, this dude is about to fall
out of bounds and then last gasp, he's like, yeah,
it's disorienting to watch, like I almost don't know what's
happening as he does it. The Celtics got really like
it was like, the Celtics are going to be what
they are and they'll probably be good, but they were
boring in the off season to talk about. And it's like,
actually their two best players got noticeably better. Ye since

(22:05):
they were in the finals last year. They're impossible to play.
They have the best offense in the league, and last
year they had the best defense in the league and
feel like they could turn that back on whenever they want. Um,
so that's a little terrifying to be in the East
with them. Um Yeah, I just did you see that,

(22:28):
Like that tech that Tatum got for clapping, like the
last night it was such a weak tech day that
they got overturned the next day. But I was just
sort of like, I was like, wow, they that did
not seem like the kind of tech I would normally
be seeing given, But okay, I'm glad you can see
guys getting text for clapping. Literally he did like a

(22:53):
clapp It was like yeah, yeah, And he wasn't really
even fear the rev either. It just seemed like it wasn't.
It also wasn't like he was complaining about it was
like a pretty obvious call. It wasn't really complaining about
the call. He was more like, come on, Jason, you're
better than that. Like team up, team up for that.

(23:16):
Tatum is now the Vegas favorite for MVP. MVP. I
mean deservedly so, because they look like they might have
the best record in the league when it's all said
and done at this early stage. Obviously, but um, and
he's playing like top three best in the league. What's
he averaging He's like in the thirties, I think still um,

(23:40):
but yeah, I mean they're they're scary. He also really
wants to win MVP two. That's the difference between Janice
is gonna rest and things like that. Hatum. It feels
like this really has some group on this big team,
right Yeah, Like every night he's like, I got boxes
to tick Man. Yet one point nine is what Tatum's averaging.

(24:02):
And he's also one of the best wing defenders in
the league. I mean, I would say I would wager
just because, like the league is honoring Bill Russell, Like,
you know, it's like reminds me of when Kobe passed.
Like I think there's added I feel like there may
be a bit of an X factor to how like
a team plays when you're like, you know what, like
let's let's do something for the for the franchise here.

(24:24):
But not to say that that's the only thing that
will motivate, but I feel like that feels like a
little bit of added uh sauce in the mix too.
For sure, Ye Miami, there's been some regression to the
mean and in terms of you know, I mean Boston
continues to win. Uh, San Antonio after a hot start
has like kind of regressed too. They're still very good,

(24:46):
they're still looking better than I think a lot of
people expected, but they've kind of regressed down to where
people might have thought they would end up. Miami just
tore off three wins in a row. Jimmy Butler with
a big defense to play on Booker block was so
satisfying to watch. There's the final play Jimmy right squares

(25:10):
up on Jimmy but Smart with his hands so close,
like how close he is? Oh? No seconds? Why don't
time out here? Yeah? That was my goodness. That is
some sticky. That's some that you're glued on at that point.

(25:34):
Like it looked like they were doing like the Lambada
at certain point because they're hip. They were like hip
to hip almost when he went up for that shot,
it was a you know, Booker has been eating off
of that move, just like you know, people guard him
closely because he's a great three point shooter. Got one
quick step and then you know, pull up jumper. He's
a great mid rain shooter as well. And Jimmy Butler.

(25:56):
It's to the point that the second Booker leaves the
floor are with the shot, he's already kind of giving
up on it because Butler is like so over him.
He's like, oh, this is getting blocked, alright, so I'm
gonna shoot this in such a way that I'll get
the rebound off the block because yeah, well it also
felt like the block almost broke his brain because he

(26:17):
they had a time out and it kind of looked
like to set up another another shot there, but he
was almost just like panicked and yeah right, Butler chased
him into another terrible shot at the buzzer. Yeah, yeah,
I mean it's it's it's interesting when you see those
guys kind of break down a little bit right there,
because I'd imagine that block just completely just was like, well,

(26:38):
that completely destroyed. I don't even know where to go
from here because I was not expecting to be absolutely
stuffed cross pizza by Jimmy Butler. But there he goes.
It's that preseason wig That's what I'm saying. He's wigging out,
speaking of just staying icy at the end of the game. Uh,
we're starting to see or at least we're really starting

(26:58):
to appreciate the at the death of a game, just
some trash talking to a free throw shooter just to say,
you know, you don't got to make these Let's get
out of here. This is our this is our dumb
pitch to the NBA for the week. And I think
I think it's our our dumbest and best yet. So
this is based on Embid talking trash to Laurie Marking

(27:19):
in most recently, yeah, and Dame to Eat And really
it's based on Dame to Eating and one of the
first games of the season, do you want to play
the clip? Yeah, let's play the clips? Okay, So the original,
the original one this season was Dame Lillard getting in
DeAndre Ayden's ear just basically saying, you don't want to
take these shots. And you know it didn't seem like
eton did. So at the end of the game, he

(27:41):
was asked, well, so what exactly did you say? Because
anybody who saw the broadcast were like, you were in
his ear? What was going on there? And this is
what Damian said, only have you ever been in a
situation before? Because it was not easy. You know, when
you when you have to make the free throwers, that's
not in because it's the whole game doesn't come down

(28:02):
to one possession. You know, there's a lot of things
that happened, but in a way, you know, you're looking
at it like this is a chance to tie the game.
So I just asked him, like I just wanted them
to think about it a little bit, like, you know,
have you ever been in this situation? And he ignored me.
And when he ignored me, I was like, you know,
I'm pretty sure he's thinking about it, like these these
big free throws that There were also reports that he

(28:25):
also mentioned something about like do you think your team
wants you in this situation? Which you think you kind
of think that next level. That's brutal because the implication
is also kind of like do you think yeah, It's
like the NBA equivalent of was like you know you're adopted,
right like what like why are you saying that right now?

(28:49):
And going from that like this And the latest one
was Joel e Andbid, who I think had a much
nicer version of getting in someone's head before crucial free throws.
I don't know if we have audio of it, but
in the final stretch of the game, and Be did
his thing. Looked real confused and it looks like he's
he's saying, hey, do you know how to get to
the stage? Can we get out of here? Do you

(29:10):
mind if we get out of here real quick? Uh?
And it turns out he said, hey, I gotta get
home to put my son Arthur to bed because he
has a strict bedtime Lori Marken and ended up obliging
and missing those two free throws. And it was funny
because afterwards people were like, but the thing is Joel
lied his son doesn't have a strict bed Like that

(29:31):
second layer of commentary from people, I'm like, Okay, that's fine.
That doesn't seem the most deceptive part. He just did
a nice way of being like appealing to maybe his
sensibilities as a father or someone you know, like like
going to hear that and be like he lied to me,
Like I take it back. Um, wait, you don't even

(29:51):
have a son. No, Like that's kind of what it
felt like. But yeah, so here's our pitch jack. What
do we think? How are we turning this up? Each
team gets one moment like every week, maybe it's every
month if they don't love the idea, but those are
our terms. That's it can be somewhere between. Once a week.
Once a month, each team gets one moment where they

(30:12):
get to take the mic for the stadium, the p
A and talk trash to a player for fifteen seconds
on the p A, presumably ahead of some big free
throws or or just whenever. But you you almost like
start having a position on your roster for whoever is
the best at like getting inside people's head, like you're

(30:33):
doing oppo research and you're like, oh, Lori marketing, I
got some hold on. Let me go on my file.
Oh oh, say the name Rachel to him over and
Rachel thinks you won't make these based on some research
and past field relationships or like or doing something more spectacular,
like before the free throws, like the stadium lights go black,

(30:53):
spotlight on one seat and it's like the person, like
someone from this player's history, personal history that they can
believe is there. It's like and here's your fifth grade
bully mark and it's like, what's up? What's up? Stinct head?
Still doing? Good man, He's like what and then good? Yeah,

(31:16):
just like stuff. We don't have to get fully toxic,
but it's those subtle things. I mean, what other ways
you think Sean are good? Just to throw someone off
like efficiently at the last minute, what what kind of
what kind of strategies would you deploy? You know, I
think I think like the deep author research is good,
but it doesn't even have to necessarily be real as

(31:36):
much as just shocking. So I had a friend who
did a roast battle and he's a he's a real
good roaster, and then a guying went up there and
just started doing jokes about how his wife was barren
and couldn't conceive children, which was not true, but it
disturbed him so much that he was like talking about

(31:57):
it's so matter of factly, and the jokes were apparently
killing but the whole time he was like, wait, she
don't they don't And then like he got in this
head and he was like, maybe, I mean we don't
on any kids? Did she did? She tell me? Did
this guy somehow? I mean, like really thing that just
pretend you've done, like usingly specifically that yeah. Oh, they'd

(32:19):
be like, you know you have three half brothers, right, yeah,
and need you right and guess what, I'm your brother.
Then they hug for a long time. Oh my gosh,
they come together like I know he wasn't there for either, man.
I know, I know exactly what you've been through, and

(32:39):
then he goes away. It's like, I'm not related to
you at all, man, I would yeah, right, is he's
taking the thoughts like that was all a joke. Yeah,
it's a lot of professional wrestling that I think we
end up pitching to the NBA. But I do think
you could pitch a trade rumor that would be that
would maybe bother him a little bit, just like, oh, right,

(33:00):
you getting shopped at Detroit. That's kind of what Dame
was doing, right with being like assuming he would say,
like do you think they want you shooting? Like they're like, whoa, oh,
we got a woes bomb. Look up at the screen, man,
what's that say? You've been traded? Do these free throws
even count right at this point? I mean, they've been

(33:23):
so disloyal to you, what do you even know them? Anyway?
Fun man, have fun? Alright, Well, we'll give the league
some time to think that over while we take a
quick break and we'll come back with the fastest segment
in podcasting rapid fire. And we're back, and it's time,

(33:50):
Sean for you to participate in the fastest segment in
NBA podcast history. This is the rapid fire round of questions.
This is how we close out the show. Just so
you know, it's about answering as quickly as possible. Don't meander.
Don't even allow us to meander. If we started to

(34:10):
some buns in the hot seat, Yes exactly, I'm sorry,
So back to it. Don't think, just respond. You've got
to keep this segment on point and fact paced. Okay,
here we go, start the clock. Do you want to

(34:31):
go first? You want? You want me to go first?
I'll go first. Okay, here we go. Great, straight up, Sean,
are you ready? Here we go? Doesn't matter because I'm
giving you the first question. What is the best hypothetical
slash not in game? NBA Jam Squad if you could
bring some some duo in, who is it going to be?

(34:52):
We did a little APO research of ourselves. Your shirt
wearing right now? Uh, Benny the Bull in Dell Curry.
That's fun, I mean deep threat Dell and then Benny
the Bull is just chaos. He's a probably knocking people
out of the way. Wow, you got the splash Brothers
on an NBA JAM shirt on your on your person? Right?

(35:15):
You know I do I do that? That would be
pretty dangerous too. Okay, what to imaginary basketball players from film, TV,
popular culture? Would you put any NBA jam squad EXTENSI?
Oh that is good. Um, okay, the ghost from The
Sixth Man Hardison's character. Yes, yeah, the ghosts just because

(35:36):
you need the power of the supernatural. And then I guess, yeah,
Dr J from the Fish you saved Pittsburgh, he's just
Dr J. Really yeah. But then as partner, right, I

(35:57):
was saying the kid from Thunderstruck, But I don't really
he doesn't have the height even though he does have powers. Yeah,
there are supernatural things that actually not supernatural. I don't wanna,
you know, distractor or antagonize any of our fans who
are who are big into astronomy or astrology. But isn't

(36:18):
isn't that like they start coming together with the help
of astrology a little bit. Isn't the fish that saves
Pittsburgh like a Pisces? Oh maybe he is? Um? Oh
I think that is right? Yeah? Okay, so yeah, so yeah, right,
And the coach of that team is Susan Miller from
Astrology Zone, the famous astrology website. I do that is

(36:40):
Neon Budo Shack from Blue trips. Yes, I couldn't remember
the character's name, but yeah, he'd be a good super producer.
Jabari picked Billy Ho and Dion Budo. That's very good Budo.
All right, let him know, uh, Sean, we gotta keep
this going on that it was like a half hour
yet all right, most fun and impressive early season storyline?

(37:04):
Is it the resilience Celtics team eleven and three? Is
it Portland's leading the West at the time of this recording?
Is it rookie head coach Will Hardy's Jazz at ten
and five, even though many anticipated a complete tank other
surprise us. I think it's I think it's the Jazz
so far. Like it's it's such a fun, weird group
of guys. And um. I also like that Malik easily

(37:26):
got a revenge game against the Timberwolves where he basically
just said I'm gonna kill them, all right, charming? Yeah, Sean,
what are your top three basketball movies of all time? Um? Okay,
white Man Can't Jump, um Love and Basketball Okay, and

(37:48):
then I don't give me, give me some some options
for number three? The Room h Yeah he got yeah, okay, okay, okay,
good good picks good picks, good picks. I'd had teams
in there, but that is because I am broken, because
I saw it too young, too many times, and now

(38:10):
it is all movies are viewed through a team with Sean.
What did we say about bringing up old stuff from
the eighties? Keep keep me on track? Um, all right,
you can travel back in time and attend any NBA
game from history. Was the first match upper game that
comes to mind? Um, I want to see I want
to see the game in eight five where the Lakers

(38:33):
to finally beat the Celtics. So I don't I don't
remember if that's game seven of the finals, that's one
of them. Other than that, it would be the Uh.
I'd love to see that play Thompson Game six and
so home tw Yeah. Yeah, it's like being present for
a magic trick. Yes, yeah, ah man, there's something cool.

(38:55):
But wait, wait, can you keep the secment going? Sean?
Come on, sorry, I'm sorry me now as a convincing sidebar.
Oh man, there's something cool about impedily snapped out of it?
What the hell the heck's going on here? Shine? Keep
their segment going? Man? What is a new rule you'd

(39:18):
like to see implemented? Altered or whatever. What have you
effective immediately in the league. And it can be realistic
or it can be fantasy. But tell us what are
you passionate about. I think that um, once a month
a team should be able to lower in a rock
and jock south basket. Thank you. This is the correct

(39:38):
answer technology, and we've had the technology, so you know,
you can't do it every game, but you get a
couple in your pocket, and yeah, you know what they
you know what they call it when a solution is
right in front of you, yet you are just unable
to to approach it and you just repeat the same
mistake over and over. It's called cowardice. And I think

(39:59):
that's what they' league is experiencing right now. Yeah, finally,
tacos are pizza. The other one's gone forever. Oh man,
I'm taking pizza. Yeah, Okay, there's other there's other cousins
to tacos that are close enough. Oh so you think
you can hack you found a loop? Okay, so what's

(40:20):
your tacos? The tacos? I think it's maybe that I
lived in Northern California too long before moving to l A.
And I've just been a burrito person and so I'm
kind of like, yeah I could, I could deal with
like as tata instead, you know, right right right, yeah, okay,
but what if it was pizzas or burritos, then that's tough.

(40:41):
I think I might still choose pizza, only only just
because I'm at a different point in my life where
it is uh less, it just destress my body too much. Yeah, yeah,
and that's all the style. Yeah right right, But if
you don't mind, I don't think you realize I asked
a question right after Jack's and that is not allowed.

(41:02):
Really really get your head in the game. Man, finally
got to ask you this, Sean Jack for Miles. Oh Man,
can I pick Japari? Is that is that? I feel
like that's taken the referee? Yea, it seems like it's allowed.
Other people have done it. Um, so that's cool. I
thought that was more. I thought it was more original.

(41:22):
Maybe you know, it would be real, you know, would
be real original picking me some oh and thirty three. Um,
we haven't done the segment that many times, and Sean
didn't know. You know. It's it's cool, man, It's just
I'm gonna have to inflate these balloons all over again.
That I have above me waiting to drop down when

(41:45):
somebody finally picks me. It like you're Jerry West in
the finals moment looking at those balloons that aren't gonna drop,
and when you finally get that you're gonna is it
gonna feel as good? Who knows? You're just gonna throw
your memphist these m v P three year office window exactly. Well,
Sean Keen, thank you so much for stopping by. Miles

(42:07):
and Jack got mad boosts. It was a pleasure having
you on. Man. Where can people find you and listen
to you? And and all that. Round Ball Rock is
the podcast that's at Round Rock on on Twitter. I'm
at Sean Keen on Twitter. I read about the words
Golden state of Mind. I read about basketball and Guard
Barker and you can see me at the Hotel Paradox

(42:29):
in Santa Cruz speak on Thursday. They're just staying there,
just hanging out by the boots, hanging out by the
pool up. I'm just partying. I got a room. I'm
gonna trash. It's gonna be great. Come on so you
can they can see you there tonight. It is that
the day of the release. If you're in Santa Cruz.
Get out there you can obviously. Oh I got to him.

(42:49):
Where do you find us? Jack? You know? Yeah, well
I was. I was just gonna say, make sure you
give us a follow on Twitter at mad boost ease
M A D B O O S T I Yes,
um and we got to give a shout out to
the Boosti's listener of the week at Maxwell. Jimenez wants
to know why haven't we discussed the Spurs? You know what?

(43:10):
He's right, yeah, right, we blew it. We love the jerseys.
The jerseys are so I gotta say, I did not
have the Spurs City edition as like the City edition
jersey that I wanted to see. But it's it's dope.
It's it's a very cool jersey. I like the you know,
just a few simple choices. They're not overdoing it, but

(43:33):
very so. How can we forget Peartle our favorite NBA
word game and also plays for the Spurs. I means
we got it. We'll get to them purd in the season.
Josh Richardson like, I think I think a lot of
people talk about some of the Jazz players being you know,
spare parts from other teams. But Josh Richardson has been

(43:54):
on every team in the past few seasons and he's
but he's playing well. Um, we'll definitely to be discussing
them further as the season continues, so you can't worry
stick around Maxwell him and is worry not? Yeah, but
that is gonna do it for this week's edition of
Matt Boosties. Again, make sure you like and subscribe and
you know, leave a review and do all that stuff
to help people know that this is the number operted

(44:17):
NBA podcast out there. Until next time, we'll see you later.
Bye bye.
