Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this episode of Jaws
for Jaws the trend real title Jaws the Revenge. I'm Jack.
That's Miles. We're talking Jaws the Revenge. We're talking the
Staircase again, Staircase again, because Miles has an interesting theory.
I think it was okay, So whatever this is, if

(00:20):
you don't know them, fine, I'm sorry, we're gonna leave
you behind. But in the Staircase I was watching with
her majesty. What we came to the conclusion was the
Owl did that ship in what state? With Carolina? North Carolina?
And then but what happened was he definitely killed the
lady in Germany. And it's more of like this comedy
of errors where he got away with that murder in

(00:42):
Germany and then the Owl killed his wife that was
in Carolina, where the fates framed him for another murder
base the one that he got away with. You could
see him being like in his mind, he's like damn,
He's like, the I I didn't kill her. Fucking I

(01:03):
don't have no fucking way to explain that. I mean,
but I did kill that. I didn't think the evidence
was strong in Germany. It seemed to me like they
just found a coincidence and really exploited it, Like when
they dug up the body, it was, you know, many
years decomposed. But Um, once you suggested that there's actually

(01:24):
strong evidence that an attack took place in Germany, I
updated my previous theory. My previous theory be and how
did it to a Jaws four jaws the revenge theory
where an out did both the murders and it followed
him across the ocean. For people who aren't familiar, Jaws
for eats, uh jaws for which I That's how I

(01:46):
referred to each of the sharks. I kind of refer
to them as Joels, Joels two, Jols free and Joels
four h Joels four eats one of the kids from
the first movie. At the beginning in Amity makes sense.
Amity is just hopping with great home greed, great white sharks,
and then his family moves to the Caribbean, and then

(02:10):
the shark follows them down there and attacks them down there. Um,
so it can be done, is all I'm saying. And
owls can fly, so thank you, thank you. Um. Anyway,
I've got they. I think my real theory is that

(02:31):
he didn't do either of them, and that an owl
did the second one. But I think that's brave. Thank you.
UM leave this elderly white man alone. All right, I've
been through enough. All Right, Miles, it's Thursday. It's time
to tell the people what's trending. And first on the

(02:53):
dock and Build Back Better b B B B Better
is dead, according to Joe Manon, who voted for another
bill that has parts of Build Back Better in it,
called the Inflation Reduction Act. We'll talk about that more
in tomorrow's action packed episode with a fantastic guest that
you all love. Just deep trenchant news analysis. Yes, like,

(03:18):
we spend the entire episode building to the analysis of
this monument. Look yeah, cats out of the back, okay,
croffings On tomorrow, we barely get to this, do get
to it, But I will say this, it is there
is some significant spending, because we've never spent really anything significant.

(03:40):
So in that sense, it it looks like a historical
bill still, you know, like look like everything nothing is
perfect that comes out of d c uh so a
micro step forward at least it's forward. Take one step forward,
I take two thirds back. As you wrote in your analysis. Yeah,
I just wanted to quote my favorite love song of

(04:01):
all time opposite the tract, So my wedding song, um
not apola mm hmm. Uh Callie is trending? Yeah Callise? Okay,
you know, like what millennial doesn't know? Kalis? I hate
you so much right now? Uh? She so she's she

(04:22):
was kind of, you know, getting angry at Beyonce because
apparently there is a track on Beyonce's new album that
samples Akalise song and she's like, I wasn't even told.
And a lot of people are quick to point out
rightly that maybe the reason you didn't hear Kalie is
because Farrell owns all of your music. He owns all
the masters, so in that in a shitty way, you

(04:43):
actually don't have any say because this man owns all
the fucking I p of the art that you made together.
And that kicked up about being like, yeah, actually, Pharrell,
what the fun is up with that? Uh? And Pharrell,
why didn't you? Yeah, Like that's to bad management by
her management, and but that's not I mean, that's happens

(05:05):
to so many artists because everything's everything is so fucking
predatory and entertainment like as it relates to your rights
as a creator, that you have to almost have like
your your head on straight before getting into it to
know when they offer you a shiny bag of money
for you know, not having your rights down the road,
that that's a terrible fucking deal for you. Um. And yeah,

(05:28):
I think a lot of people it's interesting how like
many people on Twitter like shift the focus to Farrell
actually because that's who is exploiting your work and not
telling you about it. And someone ironically was like, yeah,
the funny thing is he'll take the money that he
made from Kalise's creativity and then go and make a
shoe that says humanity or something that the proceeds it

(05:49):
says it vertically and so therefore, yeah, but I mean
that again, we're just summarizing capitalism. Yeah exactly. I mean
what full would sign a way the rights to their podcasts.
It's not like recession is trendent um. We got two

(06:13):
straight quarters of economic contraction. Uh, And many are yelling
recession because I believe the textbook definition were two consecutive
quarters of contraction. But there are also many people, especially
in the White House, we're like, you know, or people
around the admissiange like, well, what is a recession really

(06:35):
if you think about it, because we're adding jobs to
the economy. Meanwhile, I'm hearing about entire departments vanishing in
media companies, layoffs happening, And I think, what, however, you
want to describe it. I think it's clear that there
is uh good times are slowing down. M I guess

(06:57):
if you want to even give it the most charitable
uh description at the moment. But the Great Recession, Um,
it's a great one though, one of my favorite about
five recession. Yeah, it's not good. By the way. A
clip of of Joe Biden where like they cut in
the middle of it and I think they shot him

(07:18):
up with some pet pills in between the cut because
his face is like totally different from right before the
cut to right after that. Yeah. Yeah, not not that
like he seems particularly awake or aware after the cut.
But it's just maybe he had a nap. I don't know,
you know, Like this is my part, Well, yeah, I

(07:42):
don't think he's doing pills. I think, yeah, um, but
my my concern is that this is him heavily like
medicated on the pet pills and like he's just he's all,
they're all used up. He doesn't he doesn't have another
gear to go. Oh yeah, he kind of the second video,
he kind of looks like when Mr Burns was like

(08:04):
glowing in the forest and they're like, what the fund
is out there? And it's like it's Mr Burns like
blowing from radioactivity. That's and like his big eyes are like, hello,
we really need an age limit on the presidency, dude,
on decisions like this. Absolutely, he looks great grandparents are

(08:27):
kicking our future in the face. M hm alright, let's
take a quick break. We'll be right back. And we're back,
And Nathan Fielder has been trending people I think I've
found out about him, found out about Nathan Fielder for

(08:50):
the first time. Um and they're like this is kind
of exploitative, which it is very much so. Um So
there there's a character in this sad an episode. I
think people are responding to this who does not come
off well. Yeah, and we're we're saving most of our
analysis of the rehearsal for a full on rehearsal streaming

(09:12):
corner with super producer on a hose and it will
be rehearsed dozens of times before you, Yes, just to
see that in a replica building to our studio. When
even go to the studio, we've been a replica and
bird anch or some ship. But it's interesting. The first
episode of the show, the main like textual not even

(09:35):
subtextual point of the first episode of of this same
show is Nayan Field is pretty creepy, right, Like that's
that's the whole that's the whole point. It's like it
ends with being like he's a weird, willy wanka person
who manipulates the lives of the people who he's like

(09:56):
claiming to try to help, but in fact he's not
helping them. He's manipulating them and it's weird and he's
just a weird, lonely person. So it's just interesting for
people to be like saying the same point that the
show is making. Right there's I mean, it's interesting because
I think a lot of people who have watched Nathan
for you were sort of like he has a knack

(10:17):
for finding these people who you know, are willing to
be themselves on camera and that's like very interesting, like
these unique people and other people are like, oh, well,
you know, he's just leading them down this path too.
Then like just sort of like showcase themselves and like, well,
then who's laughing at who? And where is the humor?
And you know, I sound like an interesting like threat
about that, where someone was merely saying, like, I'm not

(10:39):
saying the show needs to be off the air, but
it's an interesting thing to think about and consider. Like
just like any art, if we're talking about art, you
can you can talk about it, you can critique it.
And there was someone who chimed in, like anonymously who
said that they had worked at Absolutely which is the
production company that does Nathan for You and like all
the Tim and Eric stuff and saying like a lot

(10:59):
of the times people felt like, oh, we're not sure
if like this is like really the you know, the
best way, or like feeling conflicted about the content they make.
I think on when you look at like the Tim
and Eric stuff like they were, I feel like the
vibe was a lot different than what Nathan for You
was going after and the kinds of people that they
were putting like on camera. But yeah, I mean, at
the end of the day, like it is, it is

(11:20):
an interesting thing to think about. You're like, what is
the responsibility of someone who the whole premise is that
they can build an entire reality around someone and what
that does to them. But yeah, that's that's sort of
the limits of where my thinking goes about it at
the moment. Yeah, I think the ultimate where Nathan for
You lands is a long episode about a older man

(11:46):
who seems creepy. It ends up in a kind of
heart with like still pretty creepy, but ends up in
sort of a heartwarming place for that character. But Nathan
is a lonely creep. Like that's the undenied, doable, unavoidable,
uh story that you're getting. And that's like the first
time I was like, oh, so this is like a
character he's playing and it is very unflattering. That seems

(12:10):
to be the whole point of both shows is like
based around this character of Nathan Fielder, who is a creep.
I will say, before you judge anything, go go back
and watch some of his early ship when he was
like working for the CBC, c d C CBC, uh,
you know whichever, because there there's a good interview where

(12:33):
he interviews like the CEO of the company that's making
a thing, and like the CEO is like clearly hasn't
seen any of his ship and he just like won't
drop it, just like but just say what your favorite
one is? Yeah. I mean he's the master of making
everyone uncomfortable, including the viewer, and I think that that's

(12:54):
inherently gonna spur a lot of conversation. But long made
the show lasts, long, nail last, all right. The trailer
for the new Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer coming out in
I think a year uh is is out and I
was underwhelmed by the trailer. Uh, it's a teaser. You know,

(13:17):
it's a teaser, so it's hard to they're not because
I honestly I think they just barely wrapped production. So
who I mean, it's very you get to see Cillian
Murphy for like a moment as Jay Robert Oppenheimer. Uh.
And I don't know, like it had a weird effect
on me just because like all the time, I'm just

(13:39):
thinking of like the Adam bombs in Japan, and I'm like,
this is this is gonna be fucking interesting, and like
the way they're being like very ominous right Like in
the trailer they're talking like harnessing like the power of
the sun or and ship like that. So it just
sets a very ominous tone for what we know is
the you know, the development of the attack mcbomb and

(14:00):
like what the Chris Nolan treatment of that is going
to be like. And it's gonna be in black and white.
And an article when I googled is it in black
and white? An article that I found, promised that the
reason that it's in black and white will surprise me. Um.
I did not read further to find out why, but
I think it's probably because it's a movie that is

(14:21):
set in olden times and it looks classy as I
like olden times. We never say that in adulthood. And finally,
Clarence Thomas, this trend ding not well, I mean not
well anyway. It's because he's he's been teaching at George
Washington University. Students were petitioning the funk out of the

(14:42):
school to be like, get rid of this guy. He's
Darth fucking Vader. We don't need him teaching in the
law school. And they got their wish, not because the
petition went well, but Clarence Thomas informed this school that
he was just not going to be able to make
it work this fall. So please forgive me, um, I mean,

(15:03):
the writing was on the wall Behind the Bastard's episode
that I was guessing on about Clarence Thomas. I mean,
we it was presaged then, you know, once you're on bTB. Yeah,
once you make it, once you're the subject of behind
the Bathroom, Yeah, once Robert Evans gets his gaze on you.
But yeah, it's a you know, I think, a small
victory for people who absolutely don't who are aspiring to

(15:26):
learn about the law and not be taught by a
partisan goon, and a large victory for Clarence Thomas, who
gets to go to cocktail parties in d C with
other conservatism and be like, I was canceled. Yeah exactly,
And he's like, now, let me regale you with a
forty minute description of a porn I saw ten minutes ago, allegedly. Allegedly, Yeah,

(15:50):
I mean it's in the books. All right. Well, those
are some of the things that are trending on this
Thursday afternoon. We are back tomorrow with the whole last
episode with the show. Until then, be kind to each other,
be kind to yourselves, get the vaccine, don't do nothing
about white supremacy, and we will talk to y'all tomorrow.

(16:11):
