Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this episode of the
Zitmare on trend Street. My name's Jack O'Brien. That's Miles Gray.
You yeah over there, that other hey man. Happy Wednesday
before Thanksgiving. Brother stoked. I'm stoked, ma'am. I'm stoked. I'm

(00:23):
about to be about to do a little a little,
a little something something at this m vague. I like it,
keep it vague, you know. Blood Alright, cat's out of
the back. Well, well we'll talk about what we're doing,
uh for our war on Thanksgiving, because that's one of
the things where that's trending. Yeah, yeah, yeah. My family
is planning on just having turkeys pack us and that's

(00:49):
the only way we're acknowledging the hall like some weird
things like you're restrained and unleasha gaggle of turkeys. What's
a bunch of turkeys called? It is no clus I
know you know you were who reflective with this. Uh So,
the war on Thanksgiving trending because in the Fox News narrative,
Donald Trump won the war on Christmas because now we

(01:11):
all say Merry Christmas. We used to not say that,
but now we did. Uh, And now there's a war
on Thanksgiving because there was an op ed in the
Huffington Post that said, not an article, just an article
being like, and we don't want to start a war
on Thanksgiving or something great, very clear. It was just
about we talked about on the show. It was that

(01:32):
article that was just about the carbon footprint of Thanksgiving
and meant at the very end, so clear up top,
top and tail. We're both look, I'm not here to
smear the holiday. It's just interesting information given the arrow
room because climate change, just to put something in your mind.
And they're like, oh now liberals want to take away Thanksgiving. Great. Yeah,

(01:54):
and it was weird. So then then it got more
I guess momentum because out another rally, Trump just decided
to say that there's like, as we gather together for Thanksgiving,
you know, some people want to change their name Thanksgiving.
Well he was doing some trump jazz, some some stand
up comedy at the Turkey part. Yeah, exactly. There two
and they don't want to use the term Thanksgiving. Yeah,

(02:16):
and that was true also with Christmas, but uh, everybody's
using Christmas. Again. I have never a single person who
has said, don't say the word Thanksgiving or Christmas or Christmas. Yeah,
like the only time I know it is from people
just being like, we're trying to be as agnostic as possible,
so we say happy holidays. Yeah, and it's always company HR. Yeah,

(02:36):
it's a it's an it's an HR, the corporate take
to avoid a lot of discrimination lawsuit. Yeah, what's next,
We're all gonna have to dress up as ladies. That's
my uh, that's my fear. Yeah. Personally, well, you might
want to embrace that fear. It might be powerful, it
might empower I think I would look good. Actually, um,

(02:59):
not a wording to those those ladies pumps you have on.
Look great on your feet. Thank you, just saved from
the shin down, But just the front part you're like
back and half a mess. Yeah, it's like kind of
a leg mullet. Um. Uh. Let's talk about democratic odds.
Heading into this is the last. It's the last you're

(03:20):
going to hear of our voice for a couple of days.
So like day for one day, we're taking off Thanksgiving
to give thanks to the almighty dollar, the almighty that's right.
But I found this interesting. Okay, I'll come out and
say it. I found it interesting. What did you find interesting?
Uh So, Nate Silver tweeted out, like what the odds

(03:42):
are or what the where things are pulling right now?
His take is that Biden is tier one. Then you've
got Warren, Sanders, Budda Judge tier two, and it's unclear
to him where like what order that second tier should
be in, and then Harris and Bloomberg and Klobuchar tier
three and Yang And he did not say, yeah, he

(04:06):
didn't put Yang in there because he's part of the
mainstream median. Wait, but he's but in this breakdown in
this national poll, the oh got it, that's you looking
at the national poll. He didn't even know how got it.
He didn't even give Yang the benefit of the doubt.
But he So the way the polling breaks down, Biden's
at twenty six nationally, Warrens at sixteen point nine nationally,

(04:30):
Sanders sixteen point five. Then Buddha Judge nine point six.
So I would just look at that and be like,
Warren and Sanders are a little bit about Buddha Judge
for his for his tiering system. Then you have Buddha
Judge at twenty three point nine in Iowa. Uh Sanders eighteen,
Biden seventeen Um, so I don't know. It's Sanders is

(04:51):
winning in New Hampshire, Uh, and in second in Nevada
and South Carolina and California. So right, I don't know
the second place at you anything, Um, first loser, first loser, Uncle,
you just say almost in hand ger Nades. But according
to Vegas, which is also fun to kind of keep

(05:11):
an eye on, Um, they're the people who really know. Yeah,
Biden is well because Vegas people are actually putting their
money where their mouth are are. In Vegas, Boudage has
been surging or not even surging, just steadily creeping up. Uh.
He's now in second. According to Vegas odds, Joe Biden

(05:32):
is in first plus two seventy five, Buddha plus three,
Elizabeth Warren plus three fifty, Bernie Sanders plus five fifty,
Bloomberg plus nine hundred. So that means if you bet
a hundred a hundred dollars, you win this amount of money.
I I think I'm just gonna put my money on

(05:53):
Tom Styer. Then that's the best biggest return for me. Yeah,
Actually the biggest is Julian Castro. Castro, Yeah, you would
for if you've had a hundred dollars you would win
a hundred And how are where are they? How are
they creating these odds? I mean it's just betting markets,
So they're just taking pace on whoever is putting their
money on. Yeah, they set an odd and then they'll

(06:15):
like move it up and down based on like where
the public money is going. Um, but it looks like
the public don't know ship right, I mean I don't know.
I mean more in the sense of like really yeah,
I mean Biden, I get because most people at this
point are the election is too far out for them
to even like most people don't care about debates or
primaries and things like that. They're like, oh yeah, cool

(06:37):
and Biden. Yeah, but all right, yeah, so that's interesting.
I think it's probably smart to assume that Vegas and
the public money is overestimating whatever the hot like the
fastest mover is almost like almost like the Apple podcast charts,
where like the new guy gets a little bit of attention,

(06:57):
oh yeah, where sometimes it's just excitement. So like Warren
became the clear number one back in November, when like
you know, it didn't necessarily make that much sense that
she would be like hands and head and shoulders above
everybody else and Sanders, I feel like is the other

(07:19):
side of that because he's been between plus seven plus
four fifty like all along, but like that's he's just
kind of been there. He's just like hanging out. Well yeah,
I mean he has a huge supporter base that is very,
very active, enthusiastic, but he's like boring because he was
in the last election or something or I don't know.

(07:41):
I mean I think it's weird. I feel like his
image is starting to change a little bit more versus
the last election. I think because everyone sort of was like, look,
it's Hillary's time, let's just like please go away. Bernie
Sanders like, let's all about to the dynasty, uh rock
lif Familia. So I think it's changing a little bit
because I think more and more people I think when

(08:02):
you look at sort of how diverse that supporter basis
to uh there's he got love too. As Connie says, uh,
the irishman is trending. I was hoping it was because
of me. Are you fully Irish? Well, you know, Jack O'Brien,
you don't get much more Irish. The name doesn't twenty

(08:22):
three and me and then find out your Asian and
like it opened my eyes? What is my identity? I
would love that, but I believe I am nineties something. Really,
I'm up there. Yeah maybe like in between sixty and ninety.
I I haven't done twenty three. Man, you probably shouldn't anyway. Yeah,
I'll give him your DNA. But The Irishman is the

(08:45):
Scorsese movie that is dropping on Netflix. I believe this weekend, uh,
and people are wondering if it's going to funk up
the weekend box office because like Knives Out is coming out,
the new Ryan Johnson movie. Oh I think I'm everyone
is loving that from what I've read, Yeah, that's getting
great reviews. So but I guess they're wondering if people

(09:07):
will just stay home because there's so much good streaming stuff,
which this will be a good test for the overall there.
I have a I've been purposefully holding back on Watchman,
so I can just humiliate myself, just humiliate my eyeballs. Yeah, human,
just put throw the gravity blanket on, twist up the
fucking Swisher, and just go to a world of make believe.

(09:31):
Also in Mandalorian too, there's there is a lot of ships.
I haven't watched any Mandalorian Man Delorian. Uh, so, I
don't even know what all this baby yoga ship is.
It's baby Yoda, baby yoga. Was that controversial video of
that Russian woman who's twisting the skull? Uh, I'm that
turning into my dad baby yoga or whatever? What's the

(09:55):
what's his face? Um? The guy from SNL drunk uncle, Yeah,
drunk baby yoga, Like, ain't on the baby yoga mangolor
mango mango born again. Yeah, that's that's basically who I am.
Everyone's voting for Barney Sandals, Barney Sandals, Bernie Sanders or Barney.

(10:21):
I just love saying Barney saying what they should have
said and talked about how Hillary Clinton shops of Barney's
for Sandals. It should have been there. You should have
been on her comms team. Stop by that much his
comms team. That has been a good message for her,
would it. I don't know if he's taking just like,
check this guy's old Barney Sandals over here. Anyways? Will

(10:44):
you watch the Irishman? Is my question? Miles go Uh,
eventually not this weekend though, nah, not this weekend. I
mean it depends on how much free time I found myself.
Also because this this period to l A is getting
colder odd. I mean, wow, find it's dropped below seventy.
Please play for us that Now I'm like in the

(11:05):
mood to watch trash holiday films too, So like I
don't know if I have the bandwidth, like watch something
good versus just something I can watch in my mouth agape.
Friend of the pod uh and host of sister podcast
Night Call, Emily Osheeda was saying that she she does
not see what the hubbalou is hullabaloo of holiday at

(11:25):
the Irishman being She's just like it's so long, sure,
like it's three hards. But I guess if you're a
Scorsese stand then of course this is like you gotta
watch it. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Uh. And Gabrielle Union
is trending. Yeah, what what's going on with She's no
longer going to be on America's Got Talent? Um didn't

(11:48):
know she was on it. I didn't either. Don't watch
a lot of TV like that, like Network TV UM.
And apparently there's been there were a few incidents that
she was bringing up while she was working on the
showed that NBC. I mean, you know, they have a
great track record of hearing their employees when they raised
concerns and then immediately addressing Fox News light you mean yeah,

(12:08):
uh yeah, or maybe just just the same thing. Um.
So Jay Leno, who who's had that take this year?
Boomer taken like, yeah, everything's too politically correct that yeah.
Uh apparently when he when they were filming the fourteenth
season of America's Got Talent, there was an instant season
where they were passing a picture around of Simon Cowell

(12:30):
and his dogs, and then Leno said that his dogs
could quote beyond the menu at a Korean restaurant. What yeah, dude,
like that old fucking dumb ass. I don't even that
is the most dumb fucking take people, dogs, get the
fuck up out my face with this dumb ship. It's

(12:51):
it's just fucking ignorant racist and again uh uh yeah.
Reel Union was like this is fucking not good, Like
is whack as fuck um and they said that. Gabrielle
went to producers and said, can you take this to
like hr because you're not. This is not a good
environment when you have people that you don't necessarily have
to be Asian to be offended by that, but when

(13:12):
someone is so casually doing like Tom dumb tired, ass
ignorant takes. I'm sure nbc hrs take was what he
didn't say it in front of any Koreans. Yeah, pretty much.
That's sort of their attitude because um when that apparently, uh,
there's a joint statement from the from NBC and the
production company that said, America's got talent. This is a quote.

(13:35):
America's Got talent has a long history of inclusivity and diversity,
and both our talent and the acts championed by the show,
the judging and the host lineup has been regularly refreshed
over the years, and that is one of the reasons
for a g t S and during popularity. NBC and
the producers take any issues on set seriously, unless it's
a white person doing racist ship, in which case we

(13:56):
fire the person of color who brings it to our
attempt who was being a day a rabble rouser. Also
something with blackface. Yes, there was another incident where Gabrielle
Union and other people who worked on the show were like,
there's a dude, who's who's act Who's gonna about to
perform for us? Like in this the recorded TV version, Uh,

(14:17):
like the act involved all kinds of costumes, switches and
doing a bunch of character bits, and one of them
was Beyonce, in which this man would change the color
of his skin. So uh, Gabrielle Union asked the producers like, yo,
just cut this dude from the lineup, like you know
what he's about to do, Like just fucking what the
funk is the point? Um? And they're like, we'll take

(14:39):
it out later. Was the was the line they get
fix it in post essentially, But she was like no, no no, no,
you like, I don't even want to subject the live audience,
the people in this studio from having to see this
dumb shit. Um. And again they're like, no, we're gonna
let it cook and we'll just cut it later. And
that's what they did once again. NBC just crushing it.
And I think I do wonder at this point is

(15:02):
it consciously doing the we're going to bridge the gap
to Fox News thing? I don't know. I think this
is just what happens. This is just a mindset that's
prevalent across all the boardrooms of these companies. Like they're
not diverse, They're all of a certain generation. There's just
no like they're like what's the problem We've been It's
been wildly successful up to this point. Now I'm doing

(15:24):
something wrong. This is out of control. Yeah, your sensitivity.
And then finally, just to put the cherry on top
and this Variety article, they were also saying that Gabrielle
Union was like had to deal with all kinds of
racist BS criticisms because of her hairstyle because they were
quote too black for the viewing audience. What the what

(15:45):
does that even mean? Like, oh, how dare this woman not? Uh,
you know, I have expressed her internalized white supremacy by
doing more straight hair styles or whatever she wants to
do her hair. Then she wants that's her prerogative, and
that's what's really again. And this has been like a
thing that's been talked about in like certain Simon Cowell
shows like that there's just like this culture, like toxic

(16:08):
racist culture on these shows. Um. And one person I
think in this article is saying that, like when cal
is talking about quote switching up the judging lineup, it's
usually only applies to women and people of color. So yeah,
when you look at that, that does seem to be
how he how he does. But you know what Gabrielle Union,
keep doing your thing, but it's funny. Julian Huff, who

(16:30):
is also um there for the j Leno incident and
was also let go at the same time as Gabrielle Union,
she was like, I had a wonderful time, and you know,
I can't. This is the part that's serving and I'm
happy to continue my working relationship with NBC. She has
two Christmas specials coming up, Don't Bite the hand that feeds. See,

(16:51):
this is where you need to be Like when you're
an ally, got to be an ally, you gotta put
the bag at risk sometimes. And I not that it
would put it at I mean, I guess it would
if you look at the very tip for tat nature
of show business and how retaliatory things can be. But
that's that's really when you need to have somebody's back
and you can. You don't have to say, oh shame
on NBC, this motherfucker needs to go. You could also

(17:13):
say out and like contradict, yeah, don't be like you know.
You can also say you know, I did. I did
also witness these things, uh, and they were I found
them to be offensive. I'm sure. NBC specifically asked her
to do that, right, Like, I'm sure she didn't. Just
I think it's just like it's that unwritten language of
show business to where you it's the same reason why

(17:34):
people like like they're like predatory producers exist. You know,
there's like an ebb and flow of power and energy,
and you won't to always be on the right side
of that. So you're like, well, I don't. I don't
gonna stick my neck out when I got two specials
from up Yeah. Alright, this has been our longest trending episode,
So we're gonna we're gonna jump off here and go

(17:55):
going eat some turkey turkey Tom. But I have a
great have a great Thanksgiving. We'll be back on Friday
with a special episode of our Favorite Things. Yea, So
tune in to find out alongside us what that is,
what consumer roots we love
