Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this special episode of
Thursday Night Fever. I don't even know why it's special.
It's just special because we're here. I'm Jack O'Brien. Who
are you, I'm I'm who am I Miles Miles, Gail
Boom told you doctor uh. And we're talking about trends.

(00:21):
We're talking about what's trending now this evening uh and
up top we have so all these Spotify, Apple Music
they're releasing their uh, you know what you listened to?
They're telling on you to you about what you listen
to musically this year. That's an interesting way to describe
that process. It's also a mixture. I feel like a

(00:43):
lot of people are embarrassed too, and either people are
out here being like fuck yeah, I like these podcasts
and shows. Are other people like oh my god. As
someone who likes whatever artists they believe is a source
of embarrassment, I had to really sort through mine because
I got a lot a lot of children's music on
their there like I mean, it's easy listening. Hey, it's

(01:04):
self care for you, very simple taste of music. He
likes the Wheels on the Bus better than most songs.
Different by five different artists, a kind of wheels on
the bus playlist. Yeah. I also noticed that a lot
of people are using this to like flex on, like
like Stands are using it to be like, look, how
many streams are on a Grande a head this year?

(01:24):
How many? Oh so two thousand eighteen she had two
billion streams. This year she had five points seven billion streams.
In case you thought she wasn't exploding. Yeah, good to know.
Was that information that she had tweeted out or just
like her stands, Well, that makes sense. I don't know.
I mean this whole new way of like measuring who
the bigger fan bases based off of like trending or

(01:47):
view counts and things. It's such a product of like
social media culture where it's like I can actually quantify
how lit this is because I'm used to looking at
likes and things like that, and when that's your current, see,
like it can't just be like, you know, this band
is actually better than that band because your band sucks,
rather than like, well we got nine billion tracks. Like

(02:09):
I do like kind of the metrics, like when like
doing it for the individual people. I think it's fun.
It's a fun way to look back what do you
mean like that I liked looking back at my list?
Oh no, No, What I meant is like when these
fans you know, like BT yeah, and we'll go up
against like one direction totally. That's what I mean. I
like certain uses of the metrics, like I would be
interested to see Netflix is like metric. Spotify told me

(02:33):
I listened to over fifty seven hundred different songs this year.
Fifty seven hundred. That seems impossible. Apple Music told me
I listened to twelve different songs this year, and five
of them were Wheels of the bus Covers? Was there? Wait?
How long until you actually got to a song you
had actually been listening to like the twenties? Well, damn
what a good dat? Uh shoot off Dialett the uh

(02:57):
wow Playboy Cardi Yeah was my number one sir. Uh
that's how you feel. Off Scorpions you got just dropped?
Like those are both songs you got me into? Uh?
I know, I leaned for real. I was playing a
lot for on that Playboy Cardies song featuring skept my
cop mess with us, sauce, what about you? What what
are you seeing in your top? Well? Because her Majesty

(03:19):
uses my Spotify account to like stream music because it
doesn't refuses to pay for it. As an ongoing battle
in my relationship, my number one artist is Sharon van Etton,
who you don't listen like, has every top spot imaginable
on this thing. Uh. And then Nipsey Hustle, Hustle and
Motivate was one of the songs I was. I had

(03:40):
that on loop after he passed away. What else? What
had some Norman fucking Rockwell from uh, Elana del Rey
the Greatest, A couple of songs off that album, A
couple of songs off Father of the Bride, the Vampire
Weekend album Sweetener. I just discovered that by Ariana Grande.

(04:00):
Have you heard her? I'm still I've I've This kid's
been getting a little bit of buzz. Have not really
checked her out yet. Know her brother though, Frankie, when
I saw him on Big Brother, tell everybody that that
was his sister. I knew we had a star that
was very insecure on her hands. One thing. I got
a lot of Mitsky too, that's also her majesty. But

(04:21):
I like Mitski you know Japanese America. Uh, but udly
enough that one track from the Center Season one in
my top ten, which, yeah, hugging and kissing that is
all over my ship because I don't know it's it's spooky,
and I think it reminds me of how well that
song was used throughout the show, and I think that's

(04:41):
kind of the balance I'm striking with that one. Yeah,
stand on the word. I had a similar relationship to that,
the song that ends the first episode of Righteous Gemstones. Yeah,
it's like a eighties like disco remix. Yeah, there was
some really well I think nearly every other episode I
was just had one of those outro songs. They were

(05:03):
blacking out two really good songs. Uh. And Nike's off Blonde.
I really, I think I told you at one point
I was like, man, Blonde is a really good album.
I listen to a lot of old music. I'm very
I'm an old man. And for the other one, another one,
he put your put your grandpa to bed and turn
on Blonde for him. So he goes to sleep with

(05:24):
little sweet dreams of Nikes. But I would I would
love to like get year end lists from all of
the like streaming services, all those things of like what
was the most watch how many hours do people watch?
All the stuff? Well, now that we live in the
information age, that's coming hit me. I wanna I want
to excel spreadsheet from all of you. End of day.

(05:44):
Uh Mulan is trending. Yeah, that trailer the live is
that it's the first trailer. I think there was another one,
but this one has way more like. This one is
like the real feature like trailer base. Yeah. Yeah, it's uh,
it definitely feels like an action epic more than it
feels like. I think the first trailer like recreated a

(06:05):
bunch of the scenes from the animated animated movie announced
it that way, but this one is like makes it
seem like it's its own thing. Yeah, I I don't know.
I had never seen the animated version, but I like action,

(06:27):
so yeah, I still won't see it. But good you
want to see a PG rated action movie? No man,
I need to see limbs coming off, you know what
I mean? Otherwise, like, what's the point exactly? Um visit
Eroda is trending and I just went ahead and bought
a ticket to Eroda. I didn't know you already got

(06:47):
your ticket. I didn't even look into it. Do you
know what continent Eroda is on? I was assuming like
Eastern Europe, one of those like cool Up and Coming
Eastern Europe. I I was too embarrassed to look it up.
I too bought a ticket. I didn't want to ask.
It seems like a lot of younger people on Twitter
we're going to Erota. So I was like, oh, this
is my Is this the new Fire Festivals, the new

(07:09):
Tuloom Mexico. Uh. It turns out it's not a real place.
What I think. We both bought tickets from the same
travel agent based in Lagos, Nigeria. But it's actually it's
it's just a promotional pitch for the new Harry Styles
album because it's called Adore You. I believe sen Eroda

(07:29):
is a door backwards. Uh so that whoa? I just
wait a second, Okay, I see what. I see what
you're doing, Harry Styles turning words back where it's guys,
come on, it's the I mean the It's like the
Da Vinci code version of Clever. It reminds me of

(07:50):
this historical cartoon from my history class, like back in
the day when there was like the Embargo Act of
like eighteen o seven, and there was like this where
they just accept calling it a turtle called oh grab
me and it was embargo backwards and I remember being like, whoa,
I see what they did there, and I was like, oh,
grab me. Sounds really dumb, but anyway, shout out to

(08:12):
the Embargo Act of eighteen or seven free You're your
history textbook was doing that. No, this was like an
actual political car child that era pushing back against like
you know, yeah, like Merchants Century yep, yep. Eddie Murphy's trending. Yeah,
what's going on with him? He was on Ellen awesome

(08:34):
and I think she's like, see, I have black friends too,
but not just all war criminals. Did she get mad
at him for not inviting her to his birthday party?
I don't know. It was like a halfway between. I
think there were some headlines talking about him going back
to on SNL and then the one anecdote that was
going around was this thing because he has ten children,

(08:54):
and he told on Ellen he was basically saying, like
how men and women respond differently to him when he
is up that he has ten kids. And he's like,
you know, so Ellen was like, does it seem like
a lot to you or does that seem okay? Like
the you know, uh having the ten show and He's like, no,
that seems okay, And he said, men kind of look
at me like he's crazy. How much did that cost? Uh?

(09:16):
And then he said, and women, it's kind of like
there's something sexy about it. I think Eddie Murphy must
be doing his thing jokingly, but I sure, yeah, ten kids? Man,
like my mind, Uh yeah, I'm thinking how much did
that ship cost? How much? Because what was it's not
like the same woman in one marriage? Right? No? No, no, no,

(09:40):
he's he has a he's had previous previous marriage. But
isn't there like a figure like what it costs to
raise a child, like from like birth to eighteen? Basically?
Oh yeah, it's it's sounding like a quarter million dollars
or something. I mean it depends you can you can
find savings, yeah, sure, like owe them in paper clothes

(10:01):
and paper stuff, like I do you like paper hospital gowns?
I mean it it rains so rarely out here, just
a brown bag. Yeah, man, that gives me anxiety thinking
about that. I'm too I'm too selfish to spend money
on my own child right now. All I know is,

(10:21):
you know, my parents made it work for very very
little money. When we're your kids you know, I think
that's my parents have one. They're like, nope, nope, raising
raising you in l A. I'm sure that's more expensive
than Wheeling, West Virginia with the wheels keep on turning,
man on turning. Dow said it from a town known

(10:43):
as Wheeling, West Virginia. First line of the album Piano
Man it is yeah, wrote a boy with the six
gun in his hand? Is that U? Yeah? Billy Howell,
Billy Hoell, love him, love him the best classic alright
from New Jersey? Yeah, yeah, alright, well actually I think

(11:05):
it's from Long Island. Oh, we don't want to mix
that up. Well ship man, Uh shit, man, you guys
can check back in tomorrow. We got a banger of
an episode coming at you, and then after that we'll
do another one of these check in with the trends tomorrow.
Joe Billy Joel was born in the Bronx was yeah, yeah, yeah, alright,

(11:29):
that's why he likes those uptown girls. Oh yeah, look
at him. All right, guys, have a great night. We'll
be back tomorrow. Bye bye. By
