Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this first episode of
Trending zeitgeys for working title, working title, look, this is
title exactly or trending zeit guys daily Zite guys, Trending.
We're open to you options to My name is Jack O'Brien.
This is Miles Gray. This is Miles Gray. That is
(00:23):
Miles My bad. I just don't want to come, uh
but whatever. Yeah, people are getting a slice of real
life one. Uh yeah, So we just wanted to check
in with you guys in the afternoon, tell you about
some things that are trending right now, in this moment,
(00:43):
in this moment, and see if you guys find it useful,
if you enjoy it, and if so, we'll kind of
keep keep putting it out there. If you think it's useful.
Get tosses a couple of bucks putting my hat out also.
I think it's just important because the news changes so much,
so much. We're like, what if you know, we already
talked about stuff after we record this show. What if
we just recorded some of that too, and then gave
(01:06):
y'all another opportunity to for us to annoy the ship
out of this is what we're talking about in our
office anyways, so might as well talk about it with you.
So I guess the the themes sort of is that
will always obviously do our regular show, and then sometimes
we'll look at things that are just trending hard on
Google or Twitter, things that might not quite make the show,
but still worth talking about because Earth is talking about it. Yes, So, uh,
(01:29):
without further ado, I think we're just gonna hit you
with four quick topics off the Yeah. So up first,
Disney Plus is trending miles because they launched uh and
immediately had some crashing streaming issues, streaming issues. Uh. People
are unhappy that The Simpsons is being cropped at sixteen
(01:51):
nine aspect ratio versus four three of the old nearly
square TV size we grew up on, right, because the
Simpsons crams jokes into every single corner of the frame.
So yeah, by cropping that square to fit the rectangle
that is a lot of people are like, you're losing
jokes that are part of like the establishing shots or
(02:12):
just things in the corners are up above or below
the R eye line. So I get it, you know,
but the Mandalorian dropped right, Yeah, and I still don't
have Disney. Plus I need to do that because that
is one of the things I really wanted for, and
also knowing that all the Simpsons are there, plus Doug
from like the Disney era, there's there's a lot of
nostalgia there. Yeah, but I guess it could be dangerous.
(02:34):
I could fully just regress in front of it, like
watching it and be like justushers and like not brushing.
Definitely feels like something that I will want to eat, uh,
copious bowls of sugar cereals and from like wear a
blanket over me. Uh. Number two is docca. Docca is
trending on Twitter. The Supreme Court is deliberating on this. Yeah,
(02:58):
seems to be sharply split, and there are some early
indications based on some of the questions and comments that
Chief Justice Roberts made, uh and asked, that they may
be ruling in favor of the Trump administration. Yeah. It's yeah,
definitely for for you know, conservative liberal justices Roberts. Yeah,
(03:21):
not looking too great. But you know this this the
decision won't come down to like May or June, um,
so we won't know until then. Um, but you know,
I think it's it's clearly going to be a huge
issue on the campaign m because at that point, I
mean we're talking like what we're nearly into the conventions
and things like that. So yeah, I think this is
(03:43):
what this does say is DACA will become a probably
a big, big talking point during the upcoming election. And
then something that's sort of related and also trending is
a guy by the name of Stephen Miller. If you
heard about this guy, you've seen this guy. This guy,
so he is the president's kind of foreign policy or
(04:04):
started out as foreign policy advisor. But uh it maybe
Hitler in the White House dictating our immigration mostly famous
for being his white supremacist policies, and some emails have
leaked that he sent to Bright part during the campaign
that are for that. Yeah, I mean, I guess the
(04:26):
surprising thing is how unsurprising it is that somebody this
close to the president, uh is openly racist. When yeah,
when you think that he was cutting his teeth as
an aid to Jeff Sessions when he's in the Senate, Like, yeah,
we get you have a very very unique world, very
unique worldview. As my voice cracked, Yes, we have to
(04:48):
be transparent. They must know what we sound like without
cold brew. I will not let I will not obscure
the truth for y'all. But yeah, he is seen in
these email knows linking off to a white supremacist, white
nationalist site. Uh. He links off to the Camp of Saints,
which is a book you probably aren't familiar with, but
(05:11):
it's basically a you know, work, a propaganda all about
nativist porn where the brown skins come to white world
eat literally eat their own ship. Yes, where people like
you see this is why man, we gotta save European culture. Right,
it's a they basically make you know how they're always
talking about white genocide and that just means interracial couples, right, Well,
(05:35):
this they create a white genocide. And this is where
it was interesting. You say, you know, sending links off
to a white nationalist website, and that is bright Bart
right much um, but this is like a nazi Yeah yeah,
ones were like they're full on, like we like, we
love white nationalism. But uh. In one of the emails,
right is talking about the Camp of Saints. He was
(05:58):
going back and forth with one of the editors there
and basically saying, quote you see the pope saying the
West must in effect get rid of borders, someone should
point out the parallels to Camp of the Saints. And
then right after that bright Bart put out an article
comparing just that interesting. So that's sort of, you know,
(06:18):
he was doing a little white supremacist whispering, and it's
probably a pretty good approximation of what it's like to
be the president and have this guy in your ear
all the time, just kind of whispering, uh in parcel tongue.
He's got a hateful mess, he's got a freak trump out.
Oh no way, you don't think so? Okay, Yeah, I see,
(06:40):
I see where you're coming from. Looks obsessed this guy. Yeah,
he's he's balding. He looks a lot like that dude
from Big Bang Theory. But uh like if that dude was,
you know, being consumed, which one from the inside? Which one?
Jim Parsons, right, I don't know that shov what that's
bazinga ringa? Is bazinga brand within the show or just
(07:03):
a saying. I think it's just a thing that he says,
and that I now say constantly around the office. And
you say, to the worst times, yes, exactly, really inappropriate. Well,
white nationalism, as I always say, buzingaazinga to that And
what's the fourth story, Miles. The fourth story that everyone's
talking about is Christian Serratos, who is the woman who
(07:24):
is going to be playing Selena in the upcoming Netflix series.
Uh Selena the series very clever title. I will say
kudos to Netflix on that, But the images of her,
um wow. As somebody growing up in l A, I
think anybody who knew Selena's music you are a fan,
uh and maybe you were introduced to the j Lo version.
(07:45):
This looks really good, I am, just in terms of
how much she looks like her. Yes, I mean there
was that All Eyes on Me movie about two PACs
where everybody was like, whoa, they found a guy who
looks exactly like two Hawk and then he turns out, Yeah,
it turns out they just found a guy who looked
exactly like Tupac and then the movie followed without the
(08:07):
well you know he was cast because he was a
meme first, right that it started off being like your
this dude looks like Tupac. People were like, I know
where Tupac is and then then they're like, let's get
that guy to take a bunch of acting. This is
I interviewed him when that film came out, and he
was saying they put him through all kinds of like
acting classes, Shakespearean acting classes, because he was starting from zero. Yeah,
(08:29):
if you put me in a feature film, I wouldn't
know how to Do you think do you think you
could be saved with like going to like the Shakespeare
theater and like getting a crash course from our greatest thespians. No, no, no,
I cannot. You've seen me unable when a camera comes around.
I don't I can't figure out what to do with
my hands. Imagine that in a feature film, just in
(08:54):
the background, me as Tupac, just holding my hands in
the air and front mean, that would already be problematic.
And Jog O'Brian and Miles as Madonna. What would you
play in a movie? Who would? Regardless of your actual
acting ability, who's someone even as a kid, you're like,
I'm that guy? Uh? Fictional or non fictional? Either one.
(09:16):
Matt Dillon, Matt Matt Matt Dilan story. Was that a
movie or you just want to tell them Matt Dylan story.
I just was told that I looked like Matt Dillon
one time when I tried to dress up as Magnum
p I for a Halloween and it ended up I
looked like Pat Healy from Something about Mary, Something about Mary.
(09:37):
I give off like the pervy Matt villain, Matt Dylan.
But because you had the mustache. Yeah, you've had a
lot of mustache. I have none of which I've never
seen like in person. And it sounds like for a
good reason. No, those days are long behind me. Yeah,
I'll take no more handlebars yet. Yeah, okay, trying to
maybe we can start a petition on on Twitter for
(09:58):
for Jack to bring back the handlebar. It was a
look bring back to handle bar. I just don't know
if I want people like worried about my children when
I'm walking around right right right, I looked very strange,
especially if you're running with a stroller, Like if you're
jogging with your stroller exercise and people like catch that man,
(10:19):
that bad. It's a fine line. All right, Well that's
what this is going to be. We hope you enjoyed it.
We hope you learned something about what people are thinking
about and talking about at this very moments, like ice.
And we'll be back tomorrow with more podcast and even
more after that. The Soccer continue
