Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this episode of We
Like the Stop of the Trends. There is nail man
a love it, love It, Love It. That is courtesy
of DJ Daniels, who is co hosting this episode of
Trends with me Jack. That's it hit me. Uh yeah,
(00:26):
let's tell the people what is trending this fine Thursday
afternoon into evening. Uh, game stop is trending. That's what
my reference was to up top because I am way
up on this story. And yeah, so you know, as
I've been saying we like the stock, were stunks saying that, No,
(00:53):
you told me that was the meme around it, like
two seconds before I missed said that the rush title
what explain what's happening now with Jimmy? So you know,
they're much like, um, I think we've seen senatorial hearings
for different kind of like trending tech events in society.
(01:15):
We saw, you know, um uh we we saw representatives
from Facebook and Google get brought in front of the
Senate to get a bunch of questions done to at
them about like how is this actually work? So that
we olds have a better understanding of what the funk
you're doing and just really showing the vast cracks energy
and docraty, indeed the mass ineptitude um and we're seeing
(01:38):
that once again by this a senatorial hearing for Reddit
user deep fucking Value, who was kind of he was
a bit of a mascot for the Wall Street bet
subreddit during the whole GameStop thing, because he threw a
lot of his portfolio. I think it might have been
all of it. I could not central on that one,
(01:59):
but he threw a lot his portfolio behind the through
the GameStop thing and was doing these daily they called
him gm E Yolo updates about how his portfolio was
doing in the time, and you would see days where
it would be up five million up, six million down,
thirteen million up, four millions, something like that, and just
seeing these wild, wild swings and huge amounts of money
(02:19):
until he stopped doing it to kind of like protect
himself and take some of the pressure off of what
was going on and stop people from like freaking out.
Based on every one of his daily yolo updates, does
he have thirteen million dollars? Though? That's one question I have,
like when people are doing right, when people are doing this,
like it doesn't matter if you're down thirteen million dollars
if you don't have thirteen million dollars, right exactly. It's
(02:42):
it's in it's in value. It's in those like those
uh I can't remember what the words are now, but
it's like in those shares or in the promises of
those shares, the futures or whatever it was that people
are buying. So yeah, so it's like it's it's thirteen
million dollars in value. That would go hither and thither
every other day. But it was like, I don't know
(03:03):
if our friend deep fucking value actually has thirteen million dollars.
I think he does. He's got emo hair, That's that's
one thing. He's got a sweet redhead bands. Yeah. Yeah.
This is somewhat related to a story we've had on
the dock for a while. But um, there's this dude,
Alex Kern's uh twenty one year old who was trading
(03:27):
on robin Hood and made some risky bets. I thought
he had lost seven dred and fifty thousand dollars and
like owed seven or fifty thousand dollars and took his
own life earlier in the year. And then it was
just basically Robin Hood being predatory, uh, in a predatory system,
(03:50):
and the consequences are we're deadly in this case. Um.
But and then people uh you know this is a
quote from his attorney or his family's attorney. The information
they gave him was just incredibly skewed and possibly completely
wrong because they make it look like you owe seven
(04:11):
dollars when you really don't owe anything. That could panic
just about anybody. Absolutely. Yeah. But that's interesting that instead
of having Robin Hood executives uh in front of you know, testifying,
they have the Internet user. Seriously, the one person who
(04:31):
was just proudly on display of like, hey look Howard's doing. Yeah. Yeah,
well the Internet is scary, I get it. Yeah, things
move fast in those tubes, Um that they do. Meek
Mill is trending for not great reasons. He didn't just
(04:53):
run and pull off an amazing flip like he did
right when he got out of prison. That was my
favorite reason Meek Mill has ever been trending. Um did
you you saw that video right when he was back? Oh,
it's like he the day after he got out, he
came to a Sixers game and was like just being
given like the you know, huge local hero treatment and
(05:18):
like he was back in the in the guts of
you know, the Philly Home Stadium, and he just like
there's just this video of him like standing with the
uh you know, cheer squad whatever, the dance team, uh
and some of the and I think one of these mascots,
(05:38):
and he just like runs down the hall and like
pulls off a perfect flip off of a of a
trampoline for everyone's like, oh ship, he was just like
feeling himself so much. The like like translated to physics. Um.
But anyways, Uh, he just dropped a song in which
(06:00):
he uh dropped kind of a just a very whack
lyric and also one those highly insensitive I guess we
can read it. I mean the lyric and if I
ever lack, I'm going out with my chopper. It'd be
another Kobe um. Yeah, so completely tasteless, tasteless yeah, and
(06:23):
a bad line that that's yeah, it's you gotta you
gotta make those um count if you're gonna do something
like that. But Warriors Slash Steph and other brighter NBA
news stuff is just on. The video game is broken mode.
(06:45):
He got all, he got, all his stats, pushed all
the way up. Yeah, he's got a demon as somebody, uh,
somebody once said, he's just playing out of his mind,
hitting shots that are you know, next level and uh
from further out than anybody's shot from. Um. You know,
(07:07):
we we saw this a little bit in the bubble
with Dame Lillard last year, but he's he's kind of
doing it every night now. Um, it's pretty wild, just
fun to watch. Go watch some highlights of the shots
that stuff has been taking and making, and he plays
with his handles are next level, is shooting his next
(07:28):
level um, and next to NBA players, he looks like
a normal human being. He's actually six three and incredibly
strong and like amazing. Probably in person you'd be like, oh, ship,
there goes one of the best athletes of all time.
But when he's out there it is you do get
(07:49):
the optical illusion that he is merely mortal and he's
just like making these shots that are unbelievable. I love
this air of the Yeah I'm not going to front
because you see such incredible athleticism and then you just
see absolutely no way are they actually going to go
for its shots coming up from half court? And then
it's like, yeah, what Yeah, it's something. It's fun. It's fun.
(08:16):
It's fun. He's definitely like going to go down in
history as you know, somebody who changed the way the
game was played. For Um, Mars is trending because of
a Mars rover. That's name I'm forgetting perseverance. Perseverance, Ye
has landed on Mars. Yes, I wonder do do they
(08:40):
name Mars rovers at the same place that they name
old spice deodorant? Sense? That's a little stand up. I
just came up with them. I love that. That's funny, babe,
Thank you, thank you. Uh they yeah, after seven minutes
of hell um, which apparently, like the rover has to
(09:04):
just be like speeding at the surface of Mars and
then uh stop on a dime and land. I could
do it, but apparently also was worried. Uh, so you know,
shout out to them for getting him, right, I guess
I don't I suppose. I mean, you know, they did
the math, so I mean I guess what were they
worried about? Yeah? Sorry, if math is so hard for you, dude, um,
(09:30):
check your work. Stoked for it though for ten years,
but like that, it's exciting, right, So the reason it's
exciting is this is the most advanced rover. This is
I think the ninth vehicle that has been landed on Mars,
but the most advanced suv sized, weighing a ton, uh,
(09:52):
and it's going to collect soil samples try and find out,
um if there was life before. And the reason that
the landing was so hairy in uh terms of aviation,
I don't know, is that they had to land it
in this like five mile by three mile strip where
(10:15):
there used to be it's like a lake bed where
there used to be a bunch of water, and so
they're thinking like this would be a good place took
um for like ancient ruins, Yes, ancient life. That. Do
you know? My other favorite maybe news to you probably
you may know this already. Did you know that there
is a helicopter attached to the two Perseverance, an auxilary vehicle.
(10:38):
There is a small helicopter with a camera and a battery,
literally a little drone that is going to fly around Mars.
How are they powering that bad boy? A very solid
battery exactly, just a very solid battery. But apparently I
have a friend who works for NASA, and we were
literally just like shoot, shooting out questions to him all
(10:59):
day and currently the atmosphere is so low on Mars
that it is it is truly an itsy bitsy drone
that has a tiny battery and a tiny camera attached
to it, and the wings need to be four ft
wide carbon fiber wings to actually get flight because the
atmosphere is so low and it's attached to this rover. Um.
(11:22):
I'm excited about that that that drone footage is going
to be the coolest drone footage any of us have
ever seen. So. Alright, so here's here's where I play.
Let's just say there's somebody who's like, you know, on
the one hand, very cool that we're on Mars. On
the other hand, most of Mars looks the same to me,
(11:45):
it's not it's not that scenic. I don't know what
they're going to find over there. Um that is going
to to my uh naked eye and stupid brain seem
uh me go, whoa quote unquote cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I don't know, but maybe they won't. Maybe maybe I'll
(12:07):
be surprised. I feel you. I think there's I think
it will kind of be The Majesty will not be
in the image but in that kind of like back
of the head. Can you believe we're looking at a
fucking video from Mars right now? Yeah? That that I mean,
like again, you're right, We're going to see a bunch
of rocks and maybe a mountain. Yeah that's but that's
about it. Hey, Mars, we get it, you're red. Try
(12:29):
a different color. Thanks nailed it. Uh. Uh. Demi Levado
was trending. It was revealed in the last twenty four
hours in an interview that her near overdose was very
serious from a health perspective, you know, heart attacks, strokes. UM,
(12:52):
So you know, shout out to her. I know, you
know somebody who just lost somebody to overdose. It's very
very bad times, uh, for for people struggling with uh,
you know, addiction issues. And so just a good good
thing that she made it through. Uh. And yeah, okay,
(13:12):
reach out to somebody, UM, if you're struggling. Uh. And
then there is a story about the gender pay gap
in medicine that I just want to uh put out there.
It's bigger than the average gender pay gap. You would
you would assume that, um, something as straightforward as not straightforward,
(13:34):
but you know, medicine is like well, we're all doctors here, like,
and uh, it turns out that's not the case. Uh
so that is something that's trending on Twitter. Um, and
those are some things that are trending. We'll talk about
tech cruising Cancoon tomorrow on tomorrow's episode. Uh but yeah,
(13:56):
until then, be kind to each other, be kind yourselves,
stay inside, wear a mask, don't do nothing about white supremacy,
and we'll talk to you all tomorrow. By
