Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello the Internet, and welcome to this Friday episode. Up
hooked on a trending that is courtesy of Atlas Novak.
Uh name Jack. That is a good name. You are, Jamie,

(00:20):
how about that? And this is the last when that
happened damned thing that we're putting out this week. So
first of all, have a great weekend everyone. Uh and
that's the show. Uh, well, hip, any any big plans
for the weekend? All right? Donkey donors trending Duncan Donuts.

(00:47):
All right, everybody listen. If you're listening to this on Friday,
is not too late. Most Duncan Donuts are open until
nine p m. You can go. There are some that
are twenty four hours. I bet that they have to
honor it up until midnight. Is free Donut Day. You
get a drink at Dunkin Donuts. Guess what, you get
a free donut as well. Remember to be very kind

(01:10):
to the people who work at Dunkin Donuts because they're
having a terrible day today. They're having the worst day
of your entire year. But it doesn't need to be
a bad day for everybody. Have you ever I worked
at Sorry, I just came in so hot with the
dunkin Donuts. I'm gonna I'm gonna slow my speech. I mean,
you guys should see the just bathtub sized dunkin Donuts

(01:34):
that Jamie. I've been gaming every dunkin Donuts in Los Angeles.
I have four hundred free donuts surrounded. Is that? What
are you drinking? Ben Afflecks? Ben afflecks preferred drink is
a little too sweet for my taste. But I respect
I respect his order. I have to. I used to

(01:54):
know it because in like early quarantine, I ordered it
because I don't know, I had I had time. I
had time, so a lot of time to kill. So
I would get ben Affleck's order back when he was
with an a da Armis, and he would get her
his order as well. It was a simpler time made
that relationship rested peace. Um, But have you ever worked

(02:18):
at somewhere on the day that it's like pretty coffee day?
I worked very unpleasant. I worked at a rooftop pool
at the Soho house. It was a Soho house pool
boy at my first job out of college. What and
I was sexually harassed for a living. And I was

(02:40):
there the day that there was the New York City
blackout and which was like in the middle of the summer,
and so everybody came to this pull deck, like there
were people like hanging off the roof um. And I
like became a waiter that day even though I was
a pool boy and like worked for twenty four hours straight.

(03:01):
That was the closest thing I got to that It
was madness, But that sounds so awful. It was real
but also exciting. The pool was very small, and by
the time by the end of the day, like not
even by the end of the day, by like four o'clock,
it was like milky. That's how many people And I know,

(03:21):
I'm sorry, that's so gross. That's that's good to know.
I think that, you know, his history needed that anecdote
if anyone was there and wants to reach out to
Jack and apologize the oral history of the oral history
of the day the pool got really milky. So oh yeah,
I worked a couple of free coffee days and I

(03:44):
guess I was working at a bagel shop when the
marathon bombing in Boston happened, But that was that was
like not I mean, the bagels ended up being free,
but it was because due to the trauma everyone were
you working I was working that day. Yeah, where we
weren't near we were like, I was like near Fenway Parks.

(04:05):
I was like a little like so there was panic,
but there wasn't. Uh, we weren't near any of the
actual like sites where things were happening. But the bagels
ended up being free that day, so you know, there
you go are people generally so you you worked at
a Dunk and Donuts during Free Coffee Day, I've never know.

(04:26):
I worked at a Seattle's Best Coffee and we did
some free coffee promotions. I can't imagine. I've known Dunks
employees who have been through and endured, um, National Donut
Day and then also I think National Ice Coffee Day,
and they should get hazard pet I hope. I kind

(04:49):
of wonder. I would hope that you would at least
get time and a half for a day that's just
full of angry, angry people that want their strawberry frosted
more than they want to be alive. Um that said,
I am going to be going to and I'm going

(05:09):
to be angry, and I'm going to be so mean.
I had a ritual, a week long ritual when I
was back in Pittsburgh with my wife, and I would
take her to where she had to go every morning
and then pass a Dunkin Donuts, stop in get a
little breakfast sandwich. And I even got a jelly donut

(05:30):
every once in a while. And it was what's your
dunk and breakfast sandwich that you get the sausage, egg
and cheese, but not on a croissant on a English muffin.
And I did the heck that we recently learned on
daily's like iist where I asked them, Uh, it's supposed
to be for only McDonald's sandwiches, but I said, hell,
why not, let's give it a shot. What do you

(05:51):
have to lose? And I said, could I get a
real egg on that? And they always said huh, what
what do you mean? But then ultimately gave me a
real egg and it tasted wonderful. Who springy micro right,
I didn't know that. That's that's incredible. And I bet
they hated you or a fresh egg. Yeah, no, they

(06:14):
did not like me, like, hey, fresh eggs here again,
old fresh eggs here. And it looks like he's starting
to spread the word. Yeah, I'm sure that Dunkin Donuts
employees any Dunkin donuts employees listening or like fuck you man,
All right, let's talk about Drake Bell. It's not good. Um, yeah,

(06:41):
Drake Bell. I'm most famously of Nickelodeon series Drake and
Josh Big Child star of the early two thousands. He
famously played Josh. This is on a very unfortunate and
scary trend of if you if there's a famous person

(07:03):
named Drake, they just shouldn't be around teenagers. Um, because
the other Drake also, uh you know it gets involved
with teenagers and that is not legal. Does buddies just
wants to be with buddies. I just want to die there.
So Drake Bell today was charged with disseminating matter harmful

(07:28):
to juveniles and attempted in endangering children in uh in Cleveland, Ohio.
The the details of the case are are extremely vague,
but it sounds like there were d m s and
he was trying to arrange meeting up with an underage
girl at one of his concerts a couple of years ago. UM,

(07:48):
and obviously I mean she and her parents. UM started
the case. And he is out on bond right now
on the agreement to have no contact no contact with
the victim. But I think that the case will be ongoing.
It's just very fucked up and there's not a good

(08:10):
there's not a good famous Drake uh that exists. Um,
he is also a musician? Is that what I'm understanding? Yeah?
That was. I think that that was like kind of
a part of the Nickelodeon deal that he tried to
carry into his adulthood was like every TV star has
to be a pop star if you're on TV, and
he and he kept trying to do it. But I

(08:32):
don't know, there's been various unsavory news items about him
over the last couple of years. I don't really know
what's going on, but this is disgusting. Bye by Drake.
Is there anything like worse than and the other Drake
made it bad? Made what I'm about to talk about bad,

(08:53):
gave everybody hope of like an actor who really wants
to be a musician. I mean, more power to them,
but I just find it very embarrassing. It's I mean,
especially when it's like there they were never that good.
I feel like, I mean, the Nickelodeon's success story is
Ariana Grande, but then for every Ariana Grande, there's forty

(09:16):
children who couldn't hold a tune, and we're aggressively told
that they could, especially old white guys who want to
be rock stars like Johnny Depp. And I've been enjoying
Billy Bob Thornton's work in the TV show Goliath, really
because it's on Amazon Prime. Yeah, I really, I don't know.

(09:36):
I just I like that dude on camera for some reason.
And and then there's King Renner of course, right, and
just I'm always reminded of their of this Billy bubb
interview where the guy, like the guy just asked him
one question about his acting career and he was so
mean to the guy. I'm not talking about acting, dude,

(09:59):
I'm talking I'm here to talk abo out my band,
my music. But it's like Billy Billy, Billy Billy one
gives some fucking shit about your band? Is the problem
my man? Buddy? Uh, there's some NBA stuff, a trendon
of you're gonna have to unpack this for me. What happened?
What happened on the court. Last year's National Champs, the

(10:22):
Los Angeles Lakers won the title in the bubble with
Lebron James and Anthony Davis. It was the fulfillment of
the promise of the Lakers trading away all their young,
promising talent to get Anthony Davis, who is very talented
but very injury prone. And this year they started the

(10:43):
season earlier than players wanted to, and a lot of
people got hurt because there just wasn't enough rest. Lebron
got hurt, like for the first time in his career,
basically um and Anthony Davis got hurt in this series.
And so they were up uh uh three two in
the series, or no, they were. It was tied to

(11:04):
two in the series. The Lakers were rolling, looked like
they were about to like blow this team out of
the water, and then Anthony Davis got hurt and they
just got like destroyed for the rest of the series,
like embarrassingly. So so they just got bounced out of
the playoffs. Now everybody's like, what are the Lakers gonna do? Yeah,

(11:24):
it's the first round of the playoffs, so wait, they're
going to fire the coach. I don't know that. They
probably won't, but that's what Lakers fans would like, because
Lakers fans have no patience and they expect, they expect
to be winning a championship even when it's mid season
they think they They're like, it's been too long win

(11:45):
another championship. They just had very high expectations. I I
I wish I was someone else to have this conversation.
I'm like, oh no, they lost. It is said, I
really like the Lakers. Is I really like this team.
I really like their coach and uh, you know, I
root for them on behalf of Miles and I'm sad

(12:07):
to see them lose. I loved Miles. Miles Lakers experience
really made it all worth it for me. That's what
makes me love basketball. Is Miles yelling yes Yeah. And finally,
I want to talk about the treat economy. We already
talked about the free doughnut that you can get with

(12:28):
a drink at Duncan Donuts. Um, but they are giving
out Uh let's see, you can get free popcorn if
you buy some AMC stunks. Uh really Yeah, there's like
a section on the app that you get access to
if you are a shareholder in AMC, and it includes
free popcorn. They're really wilding out recently. They're just they'll

(12:53):
do also, if it's your first movie back at all
and you have a membership with them. You get a
huge as popcorn and a free drink. I mean what
I have Placed Part two last weekend. How was the
experience being back? It was good? Quiet Place two is whatever,
But like I was like, oh, like a jump scare

(13:15):
movie with a huge ass popcorn and people not respecting
social distancing. It was exactly what I thought would happen.
But it was exciting nice. Yeah, they're apparently not requiring
masks or there. You don't have to wear a mask
if you've been vaccinated, and they're just working off of
the honor system on whether you've been vaccinated, which is

(13:38):
very cool. You guys. Um, there's also the ultimate treat
uh for vaccinations. There's obviously the million dollar lottery, but Budweiser, uh,
you know, the America's favorite beer. I guess I don't know.
It was going to give people free beer on the

(14:00):
fourth of July if we get to seventy vaccinated. Um,
well I don't. I mean, I don't think it's going
to happen, but it's a nice thought. It's just so
weird that this is like, it feels very it doesn't
feel dystopian, because no movie was like we're gonna give
people treats to get them to participate in the economy.

(14:23):
But it is, it is weird. It's weird that like
they're just using the logic of like a Clippers game
where they want you to make noise when somebody's shooting
free throws. They're like, if he misses, you get a
free taco. It's like if you buy stocks, we'll give
you We'll give you a beer and some popcorn. Um.

(14:45):
It's very I mean, as far as the vaccine stuff goes,
I'm just like, if that works even once, then fine, Um.
But in concept it is very dystopian. But I yeah,
I mean it's the sort of thing that would be
laughable in a society that took care of people, I guess.
But mhm um, that ain't us. Well, Jamie, thank you

(15:11):
so much for joining today. Are happy to happy to
be here. I'm going to get my donut. Everyone. If
you live near an AMC, they're starting to show the
Minions movies again. If you want to go see Minions
in theaters, you can do that. I did it yesterday
and you are this is your first Minions experiencing. You
enjoyed my first Minions and yes, I'll be back for more. Wow. Um,

(15:37):
And what do you have a particular donkey donut that
you recommend? Oh, I'm absolutely disgusting, So I like the
I think it's the vanilla cream one, which is just
a donut full of frosting. Is it makes my mouth
Hurtat's like so full of sugar. It like literally is

(15:59):
a phizally painful thing to eat. But I love it.
It's so sweet that you'll you'll gag and you might die.
But I'm going to go get one right now. Oh
that sounds so good because usually like they're filled with custard,
which isn't isn't quite sweet? No, No, it's it's and
it's also edible, which I take issue with. Yeah, they

(16:21):
sell they also sell one that's just full of chocolate
doughnut or chocolate frosting. It's they they're not shy about
trying to kill you, and I appreciate that. Alright, go
do that. Be kind to each other, be kind to yourselves,
get the vaccine, and don't do nothing about white supremacy.
We will be back on Monday with the whole last

(16:44):
episode of the show. We will talk to you all
that
