Hello friends, are you getting ready for bed?
Let’s make sure we’ve brushed our teeth and washed our hands. Oh and don’t forget your comfy things. Now it’s time for the perfect bedtime story.

About Mr. Jim:

Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family’s bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello, friends, and welcome to bedtime Stories with mister Jim.
Oh I was just getting ready for bed. Are you
as well? Oh good, I hope you brushed your teeth
and found all of your comfy things like pillows and

(00:24):
blankets and stuffies. Oh mis oak, Well, as long as
you have all those things ready, then it's time for
our story. First, we must close our eyes so that
we can travel to an imagine every world. River was

(00:57):
in kindergarten and loved going to school. He loved his
teachers and his friends, riding on the school bus, playing
on the playground outside, learning how to read and how
to count. There were so many things about school that
River loved to do. Oh No, this morning, when he

(01:25):
woke up, he had a fever and was not able
to go to school. Oh River had to stay home.
So all day he laid in bed because he didn't
feel good and had to take medicine to help him
feel better. His mom would read him a story every
once in a while and would tuck him in with

(01:46):
some really warm blankets. What do you like to cuddle with,
m Maybe some stuffed animals, some big warm blankets. River
had a very special blanket that he called blinkie and
that helped him feel better a lot better when he
was feeling sick. After lunch, he started to feel a

(02:11):
little bit better and there was a knock at the door.
It was one of his friends from school, Scottie said. River.
You're not going to believe this, said Scotti. What what
happened at school today? Said River? And then Scotti said, well, wait, actually,

(02:38):
why weren't you at school? We didn't see you there today.
We really missed you. River said, well, I'm actually sick
and so I had to stay home. Oh man, said Scottie.
I hope you feel better, but oh yeah, I forgot
to tell you. You're You're not going to believe this.

(03:01):
I don't know why, but at school the teachers were
talking about how today the sun is going to disappear.
What are you talking about? Said River. Well, I don't
really understand what's going on or why, but the teacher said,
at four thirty this afternoon, the sun is going to disappear.

(03:25):
And then River's mom came outside and said, River, you
need to say goodbye to Scottie. It's not a good
time to play because you're not feeling well. You need
to go lay down back in bed. Okay said River, bye, Scotty,
We'll see you later. When they shut the door. As

(03:47):
River began to walk back to his bedroom, he began
to think, what in the world is going on with
the sun? If it's going to disappear at four thirty
this After he looked at his clock that was only
one hour away, River's mind began to race. What if

(04:10):
I only have one hour of sun for my entire life?
What if it never comes back? The sun? We need
the sun, The plants need the sun, and I need
the sun to play outside. Wow, River makes some good points.
What do you think we need the sun for? Well,

(04:33):
the sun keeps us warm on cold days. It also
helps plants grow. Oh, and it makes the light so
we can play outside. Yes, all of those things. River
was starting to think about, and it was really scary

(04:53):
and sad if the sun was going to be gone forever.
He had to go back to his room and lay down.
But in the meantime he was going to look for
clues of who was going to take the sun. Who
do you think would take the sun or make it disappear?
None of it made any sense. River was up in

(05:17):
his room, took out all of his spy gear and
began looking around out his window to see if there
were any clues of who might take the sun. You see,
he still wasn't allowed to go outside because he still
had a fever, but thankfully his bedroom had some big
windows in it so he could look outside. But he

(05:41):
didn't see any clues or anything unusual. It was starting
to get dark, though, and he felt like he was
running out of time. The sky looked strange, It didn't
have any clouds in it, but it was getting darker.
He felt like he was running out of time. He

(06:03):
ran downstairs to his mom and said, Mom, I think
someone is trying to steal the sun. Did you see
it's getting dark outside. It's in the middle of the day.
His mom turned around and smiled and said, oh, dear,
it's This is called an eclipse. Have you ever heard

(06:24):
of an eclipse before? Rivers shook his head. No. You see,
every once in a while, something blocks the sun from
us being able to see it. What in the world
could block the sun? Is it an enemy? Is it
some kind of bad guy that I should call h

(06:45):
Q about. Oh no, no, said his mom, This is
actually the moon. For just a few minutes, the moon
moves right in front of the sun, which makes it
look like it disappeared and gets darker. But it will
be back very soon. Oh good, said River. I want

(07:09):
to be able to play outside in the daylight again.
This was very scary. I thought the sun was going
to be gone forever. Well, don't worry, River said his mom.
The sun will be back in about five minutes. But first,
let me show you these special sunglasses I have for
us to wear outside. Special sunglasses, said River. Why do

(07:34):
I need those? His mom said, Remember, we should never
look directly at the sun because the sun's light is
so bright it can hurt our eyes. So we have
to wear these very special sunglasses. They're like superhero glasses
for us to be able to watch the eclipse. The

(07:57):
two of them walked outside with their vain special sunglasses
and watched as the sun came back out from hiding
from behind the moon. This was River's first eclipse, and
he thought it was amazingly beautiful. It did look funny
for it to be in the middle of the day

(08:19):
and it was very dark, But just a few minutes later,
the sun started to come back out again. Oh good,
River said, I was getting nervous that it would never
come back. I'm very glad to see the sun. Well,
you have had quite the afternoon and your body needs

(08:41):
some more rest, So why don't you go back down
and lay down for a little while. We have to
get you healthy again so that you can go back
to school tomorrow and talk to your friends all about
the eclipse. So River went back up to his room,
curled up with his special blankie, and went back to sleep.

(09:06):
The end
