in the twenty stops. So I want to I want

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Maybe, I mean it would have to be my tour
would have to be sponsored by like Verizon or some again. Okay,
it would have to be sponsored for me to get
paid that again. Hello, yeah, on the Beyonce right when
you check the Cowboy carter to you see how it's sponsored.
But like Loriel and a whole bunch of other places,
I would have to be I would have to be
sponsored in that way. But how are you, Queen Joe?

Hell are you how are you doing alone?

Speaker 5 (04:20):
YEA doing real, real good, excited about everything that I
just heard, and.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Yeah, I'm doing good.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
It's hell out here right now.

Speaker 6 (04:33):
I don't know who turned on the oven San Diego,
but setting Pale, I was like, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Not okay when you go back at the Golden tax
I don't mean golden sun. I just mean like the
golden sunset, but not the weather like yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Girls too much, it's too much.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well right, well most men here, yes, right right right.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
But as always, Jo, we're gonna kick out for our show
that we do every week. Been giving a Flowers short
ger Mas, Sisha Campbell and our still Here segment because
I should.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Today it's going to be centered more around music. I
want to ask y'all who's the vocalist. They'll don't think
it's enough Flowers.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
I'm not just saying a vocalist with technique, levels of range,
et cetera. For me, I'm between two people, so I'll
share first with Pastor genre about you, Beer, I'm between
two people, Tory Kelly and Jackson Sullivan. I know they're
famous enough in their own rights. I know they're famous,
but they but I still think they people want to

(05:47):
see them as as one lane. Yeah, and they're slept
on like with their vocal abilities, like Jason Sullivan can
like the girl can sang down. The girl has Tory
Kelly the Oh my god her her.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Last mixtape was actually really fucking good, and I don't
think I don't think enough people talked about how good
that mixtape.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
They don't call her R and B, but she is
and her gospel music too.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Girl we helped me be.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
She is spared every time. That girl can do cartwheels
with her voice.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
I can't think people give that she deserves. I don't
think either of them do. So those are my two, John,
how about you?

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah? So the one the I see some other names
there are, There are a couple of names that I
can think of off the top of my head. But
the first person that immediately came to mind when I
read this was Don Rochard. And I will tell you
why not. Only do I believe that Don Rochard is
talented in terms of visuals, like anything she does from

(06:51):
a visual concept and makes a lot of sense and
it's absolutely beautiful, astounding, but I think that there's we
don't give her enough credit for her songwriting ability, Like
I get it. Her voice is in like a you know,
some people Beyonce and Jazz and Sullivan and all these
like Brandy, they are the vocal bible. Okay, Like I
understand that Don's voice is not a vocal bible, and
I get that in terms of like vocalists. But there's

(07:12):
just something. So there's a longing and a and a yearning,
and there's just this like eighty six, Okay, can we
I don't know if y'all know that song, but eighty
If you have never listened to Don Rochard's eighty six,
I had to.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Say, a girl is I'm very I'm very annoying.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Yeah, if I saw her on the street, I would nothing.
So dom So let me give you, Let me give
all the babies a history, So Danity Kane two thousand four. Yes, yes, yes,
And she also wrote that song. And so a lot
of people don't know that that A lot of the

(07:56):
songs for Dirty Money Don also wrote. And so a
lot of people, like I said, we don't give Don
Rashard enough credit because there are a lot of songs.
I can't. I can't go through her entire cannon and say,
oh she wrote all these songs, but I will say
that I do know songs that she has written and
i'm I'm I'm in the mind of like lights Out.
She also wrote for the Danity Kane album. And it's

(08:17):
just she's just talented. She's just so fucking talented, and
the fact that she can do things both in like
she she plays with techno music, she plays with like
house music, she plays with R and B, she can
rap a lot, like She's just so like. I just
really wish that we gave her more credit for what
she can do and what she's able to do. So

(08:38):
that's my take on her.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Okay, how about.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
You, boo, I'm right on board with two when it
comes to jazz and Sullivan because her voice is out
of control.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
She did uh lift every voice in Singing and something,
and I was.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Sitting in my bed at nighttime watching it and I
like to throw my phone across the room because I said,
how dare you get up there and saying that song
so nasty like.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
That, like yeah, who's gonna sing?

Speaker 5 (09:13):
Lift every voice and saying after you, y'all not going
to give me to Mike, I'm gonna do it right.
But I mean just absolutely incredible And I've been such
a fan.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
I've been following her for so long.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
And she did The Home when she was eleven years old,
and eleven sounded like she had three kids and a husband
when she was eleven years old, like she hadn't been
through some things.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
So her. And there is another person that has a
very beautiful, pure voice. Her name is Kalala.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Yeah, you know what you're talking about.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
I love Kalala's voice.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
I love her like her artistries like she's one of
those people like Solange, that is not necessarily.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
About voice, It's about the experience. And she paints a
lovely soundscape when she does her music.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Mm hmm, can I can? I also just jump in
and say here to the crave for I would love
for Victoria Money to be bigger like I I know
Victoria is big, right. We know Victoria is big in
her own right, but I want her to be bigger like.
I think Victoria Monet definitely doesn't get a lot of

(10:31):
the credit that she really should for a lot of
what she does. Personally. I just think I wish.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
And she's a performer, like people don't she can perform, So.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
I feel for you.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Okay, Well, fanno that we officially got you in the
mood to Toronto jam by one of your favorite underrated
artists because Ma Apple streams to be counting girl. Okay,
you take a quick break, coming back to talk Shop
with our guests more in just a second.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
All right, y'all. So this week we are going to
kick off our category is segment by kind of talking
about grooves and we are talking about music production through
a black queer legs.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Sorry before you do? Is that how the is that
the lyric of the song.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Groove is in the heart? Yes, what were you saying?

Speaker 2 (11:27):
No, I'm I'm so sorry. I have to go thank
you so much.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
This whole time, I thought she was saying this ship
like Ruby's in love love.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
Love.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Oh I am years old. When I like you see
it in that key, I was.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Like, oh, but that's just okay. But I can't I
can't lie to you. So we're gonna get to you.
But I'm gonna also say I used to think that
Beyond Say was saying and ring the alarm. Uh, he's
so African and bold.

Speaker 7 (12:04):
I would always sing it that way because that's what
I thought she said, He's so African in bold but
what does she say?

Speaker 1 (12:11):
He's so arrogant and bold? Is that what she's saying?

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Is it affluent?

Speaker 1 (12:16):
I don't know, but I thought it was laughing she says,
so what okay?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Huh?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I thought she was saying, he's so in the back.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Or the rolls in the box or the rolls if
you let go, like like like the arrigant in bold.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Doesn't she say that in the song.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
In the about in the chorus no, during the son yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
yes I used to do.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
She said, he's so African and Bond.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Is arrogant in bold.

Speaker 7 (12:51):
I'm okay, okay, yeah, so sorry about that, but yeah,
thank you?

Speaker 2 (12:56):
You know that we alone?

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Yes, check, that's there. This is this is the.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
No no no Encore, Encore. Do you know that's on care?

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Yes? Uh huh?

Speaker 5 (13:12):
I thought she said he's hers and I'm yours versus
her saying deserves an Encore.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
I I did and yours. That's what it sounds like
to me.

Speaker 8 (13:30):
Oh and that song, oh God, so good, deserves a
non care.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
Do you hear?

Speaker 4 (13:42):
But you know you hear?

Speaker 1 (13:46):
I hear it.

Speaker 7 (13:47):
I hear it, yeah, your yes, yes, I hear my.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Friend, Thank you, thank you, for rocking with that.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Thank you, Yeah, no, I get I'm with you when
you write. But this week, now that we have gone
back off of our tangent okay, we would love to
engage you around your music making and thinking about how
your identity plays a role in shaping the songs you write,

(14:18):
the songs you sing, the feelings and the emotions that
you have around that. So with that being said, one
of the first questions that I wanted to ask you
is when, how what is your process to making music?
And then thinking about that, while you're making music doing
what you love, right, you're making music doing what you love,
how has that helped you explore or affirm the intersections

(14:39):
of who you are?

Speaker 5 (14:42):
So, first part, the process is like my last album Formless,
basically I had to get dragged by a previous partner
in order for me to pull.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
That out, you know.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Yeah, And.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Basically it's like it's.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
You know, all the arts like, oh, it's like therapy,
but in reality it's really like.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Uh, a therapeutic thing to get it out.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
And if you like, first off, don't play with me,
because if you play with me, I'm gonna show you.
So like it's just kind of like allowed me to
get up my feelings and my thoughts.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Uh in a way.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
That's fun because I make jams that are like bouncing.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
I want people to You can bounce to my heartbreak,
you can bounce to me be getting. You see what
I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Now, come on, we got to be sad all the time.
It's enough sadness in the world. I'm trying to make
the girls squirrel.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
And then for the second part, like how how how's
doing the work? How does it helped you explore the
end intersections of who you are as a person.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
Well, I think when it comes to like it, a
lot of my songs have like this underline of sexinists
that like at one point I wasn't comfortable with like
joy raiding and body rolling, and you know, you know
now it's just like I'm letting the music move me
as it does, as it did. So I'm out there,

(16:22):
you know, giving a five six, seven eight set.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
That's all I'm doing.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
And look, let let me know, y'all, she does your
own stunts.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
She does carwheels, black backflips, flip flops, all and everything
in between.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
So not the dump walk and everything.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
I know that you know what my knees are not
my knees.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
Find that good for that one, because you don't need
much of a knee, you know, to hauld yourself over.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Baby. Let me tell you the way. They will never
get me doing uh what do you call that deal?
You'll never see me do it, and I'll never get.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Back up exactly. We will be all we all will
be pushed out on.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Actually it will be a drop because I'm not a gurney, honey.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
I feel like, yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Feel like we're in the era y'all of like queer music.
We're becoming more mainstream, but it's still not there yet.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
And so I want to ask you here in the field,
as a as a black court artist like Worsting, I'm
supposed to for success that like that you're experiencing that
you're seeing in the in the industry.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
That's a good question.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
I don't I won't say that I'm experiencing any like
blocks or anything.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
I believe that.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
I don't want this to sound arrogant, but you have
to make yourself undeniable no matter what you know you're doing.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
That just has to be it. So like when I'm
doing something, I believe in.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
It, I believe that that's what it that is what
it is.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
And so.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
And I think I make people believe by just you know,
standing ten toes on on the stuff that I create,
because you know it's not a facade.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
You know that's me. You know that's real. So I
don't have many obstacles.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
I've been blessed enough to be able to just you know,
go from one thing to the next. Because when I
make up my mind to do something, I really look,
I'm putting putting foot on neck, per se to make sure.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
It happens, you know, because I'm not gonna let myself.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
You know I'm not because also, like one door shuts
or like somebody says, oh no, no, no, there's so
many other opportunities. I'm not allowing like one person. I
create my own events. So I'm not worried about somebody
telling me I.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Can't do something. I'm just gonna make a way like
we have been, like we have been doing. You know,
it's the dawn of existence.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Yes, yes, And and you know it's it's funny because
you say that, and I I feel it so much
today because a lot of even with us making away
and us figuring out ways to kind of, you know,
just be or to do our craft. However we do
our craft, whether it's podcasting, whether it's singing, whether it's

(19:29):
writing music, whatever. You it's always so interesting because you
start to notice that the others, and we know who
the others are, they mock us, right, They constantly they
will take our style and whatever we're doing and and
and utilize that as a way for for them to
find success. And so I definitely, you know, hearing you

(19:49):
share that, I vibe with this so much because yes,
we're all making away, but we are in in the
words of I can see their prodigy and forget what
their name is there they're they do call outs and
things in the in the uh spaces Yes, Kevin Yama, yes,

(20:10):
and and Kevin's word. We are the original way, right,
we have always been the original way. And so I
love that you make mention of that. That was my
long way of saying shout out to Kevin. With that
being said, I did want to ask you a question.
So I know that you have a couple of performances
coming up. Some we can share here, some of them
we can, but I would love to know you know,

(20:32):
as a as a you know, some are you? So,
I guess the question I want to first, are you
from San Diego?

Speaker 4 (20:37):
I am not from San Diego.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
Okay, you're not. You know what, You've mentioned that in
the pre show that you weren't, that you're Wren Well. Anyway,
you live in San Diego, and so I guess I
would love to ask. And I hope I'm not putting
you on blast by saying that on the mic, but
I would love to know. What is it like knowing
that you're performing in your local community? Uh? And and
and you know, outside of performing your local community, like,

(20:59):
what are your dream like? What are your aspirations?

Speaker 2 (21:02):
What are your aspirations in life?

Speaker 9 (21:04):
M hm, Well, Sarah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
You know, I'm really excited to perform at San Diego Pride.
There's a lot of people that I work with when
it comes to music. And you know, girl Kylnie, she's
headlining the day that I'm performing.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
So we're gonna put that on. We're gonna put put
that on. E p K that and did And.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
It's this is not just such a big opportunity for me,
It's an opportunity for so many other people, Like there
are people that volunteer their services for me for this
performance and to have that happen, and to just give
them an opportunity in a space while I'm having an

(22:09):
opportunity that means the world to me. So like, I
feel like my dream, of my aspirations, my goal is
to perform enough and to get booked enough, and to
inspire people enough to be curious about themselves and to
be curious about what they can do.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
And I feel like.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Every time I perform, if I just get one person
to be like dang, rather they be like he just
told that up, I could have did that better. Whatever
the case may be, I just want to be the light,
the spark that makes somebody want to say, hey, this
is so cool that you know this guy is doing

(22:49):
I could do the military and pursuing his dream. He's
not allowing anything going to stop him from achieving what
it is that he wants. So my dream is to first.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
Off, get it.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
Like, I don't want to be like a celebrity or
anything like that.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
I just want people to enjoy my music.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
A lot of people to enjoy my music that you
know that can help me continue on making it and
continue on making better and better.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
Music. Videos Ideas work with better people, so that would
be my goal.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
My goal is just to like, yeah, as I'm giving
to myself, I'm given to other people.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Amen. Amen, I'm you know. I know you said you
don't want to be celebrity, but I kind of you
knows it's nice to want to do the extra coin.

Speaker 10 (23:39):
It's okay, listen, I'll take the coin. I'll take the
coin we don't we don't need. I want to still
go to the local Trader Jones and get what I need.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
You see what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
I do because I'd like to give your money.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
You know.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
You know, you know I like to.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
You know when when I used to, when I used to,
you know what it's been. So can I just say this.
I am proud of myself. You know it has been
almost seven months since I've been in a target. I
am literally proud of myself because you know, I don't boycott.
You know, when everybody I'm gonna be real. Yeah, I'm
just I'm human like everybody else. Y'all could cancel me
if you want to. But when everybody else like, oh

(24:20):
I'm in a boycot, this that and the other, I
was like, I like those places. I'm sorry I don't
know about target. I said, you know what, y'are right,
no target, and they has been seven months since I've
been in the target.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Yeah, I have also not set foot in a target.
The absolutely have had a delivery. Okay, okay, you know
I cannot lie to your faces, listeners. I have a
delivery because where I do I have to get my
pattern beauty.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
And I know that she got target anything.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
She only got we'll see. I ordered the old target,
which is the problem.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
Please, so please let nobody unplugged. They might let somebody
collect myself.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
It's not an often thing. It's not the thing. I'm
so sorry. Let me tell myself, y'all, but listen, what
what what?

Speaker 4 (25:18):
What?

Speaker 2 (25:18):
At least, what I'm doing here is accountability. You won't
do is put on me. You won't do put me
on blast myself blast.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
I know what I'm doing and I and I up
to it. So my hair care is hard, y'all. So okay,
you know, you know I can competently say that, like you're.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Somebody who.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
Like like you're just building so much community and has
built so much community, like it is like like like
Vera has a career community, vias A pick about community
is like like switch people that that that verous people
that love you and that you love them, and it's
beautiful to see. Like you know, but you said that
you you want to get back to who who are

(26:03):
giving that to you? And you do, like I think
when I see you, I always think, uh, like reciprocity
is a huge beautiful value that you have and not
like through a sense of like obligation, but because because
like you just want to it's important to you, right,
and so it shows that you like you value people
who show.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Up for you and you show up for them.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
That's really special, really really specially to see, especially this world,
especially in this industry, in this in this community, like
it's amazing, and so I am I like like like
I just want to affirm what you what you said,
and for anyone listening, like like I I truly see
it myself personally, like like in my life knowing you.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
And so I'm I'm grateful to be able to be
in space with you.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
On top of making music as you name before, you
create and carrate events and said nego.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
To a full scale production company is what it feels like.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
And you and you often uplift newer block and as
we q plus artists and voices.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
How how do you do it?

Speaker 3 (26:55):
What moves you to doing and how and like like
and how does this amplify all that you do as well?

Speaker 4 (27:02):
M M.

Speaker 5 (27:03):
I think that like why I know, the reason why
I do it is that, like there's so many challenged
queer artists in San Diego, and you know, no shade
to the drag queens, but like when you go to
places like in Hillcres, it's all just like, oh, we
got a drag drag brunch or drag travaganza this night.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
You know, they're not really putting.

Speaker 5 (27:27):
On uh queer artists singer songwriters, you know. So I
felt like there was a gap in you know, that market.
And also like these people are talented and they need.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
To be seen and they need to be heeard.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
And like my grandma said, I ain't you ain't got
if you ain't got an opportunity to just make one,
you got you got to see at the table, make
a new one.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
There's enough wood in the world to make a new table.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
So I just decided to like do that, and like,
you know, it really brings me joy. It really really
does bring me joy. To see artists grow and perform
and you know, expand their creativity and their artistry. And
like I could be a part of that to let
somebody because there's been plenty artists that nobody like, well

(28:15):
the hell are these art I've never even heard of
these of course you haven't.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
Of course you haven't because they don't have a place.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
So I'm for all my babies, all my core artists
in San Diego that's homeless, come home. We're gonna put
you on the show. We're gonna make sure that you're seen.
And like, my biggest thing is that I'm not just
doing it for queer art but black queer artists. My
thing is to make sure that black artists here are
getting their flowers. And I've done you know, I got cookies,

(28:47):
kognak and Christmas carols. That's a good event that I
do for the Christmas time.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
There.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
Yes, So it's it's it's early December, because you know,
everybody leaves, all the ex patriots live in San Diego.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
But I do the cookies, coat and Christmas cares.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
I go to the college, go get me about one
hundred and fifty cookies I make my good ass, but
now I'm putting and that's good and that's where it
on my grandma.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
It's really really good.

Speaker 5 (29:15):
And then I also, you know, have cognac there because
you can't have cookies without your cognac. And then we
have I had like seven artists the last time, do uh,
two Christmas carols and one original song, one of one
one Christmas carol and two original songs because even though

(29:38):
it's about Christmas, it's also about displaying your talent so
we can see you what you got.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
So it was so beautiful. I was every time I do,
I'm shocked and just like this many people showed up.
That's crazy.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yeah, So no, I love that.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
I love I love hearing that because the reality is,
I think there's so many people that's I'm listening to you,
and I'm like, you have something about you. There's to
spark this energy that I feel. And I know I
haven't met you in person, but and I know you
and Joho are really close, and I know for a
fact that Joho only associates with what I believe are
good people. So that tells me a lot, right, the

(30:19):
fact that you are in community with good people, that
I feel like are good people, right, But I also
believe like there's just something so beautiful about you know.
I think, and I say this industry. When I say
the industry, I'm saying industry at large. I'm talking about
whether it be TV, film, music, anything entertainment related. It
can become very easy to just be about you and

(30:40):
about your success and your climb and your work and
the idea that you're saying. No, this is something I've
championed since we started the show, like it has to
be a collective thing. It has to be about us.
That's why we invite people on the show almost weekly
at this point, because I don't want it to just
be about me and Joho. It's about me Joe and
whoever else in the queer Black community is doing good

(31:03):
work or is changing the ways we think about the world.
And so I love that. I just that really spoke
to me. And I hope you know that. Like I said,
I haven't met you in person, but I'm very grateful
to know that you're out there doing what you're doing
because I know for a fact that there is someone
out there who needs.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
It, you know, So I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
I love giving the girls, they flowers. All right, y'all. Well,
with that being said, now that we have given you
every reason in the book to not only come to
San Diego Pride, but also to get your tickets to
Black Pride, and we talked about that at the top
of the show. Were going to talk about it one
more game at the end of the show, go get
your tickets. In their description, blucks here you do it.
If we are gonna take another break and come back

(31:43):
with something fresh, foe that ass We'll be back in
a bit.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
That's good, okay, family, We are.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Backing because we have two people with great, amazing vocal
ability on this show. Today, We're gonna have some fun
with this segment. We're gonna do a little song association battle.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
Well, have a few.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Rounds where I will give a word Johnny and Beer
will have to sing a lyric. What that in if
you watched it on Uh yeah, the l you know
what is so associates. Some association is whoever gets whoever
sayings first, gets the point when you gets to see
on the show lose your house to Goschenesus. Wait, Jesus,

(32:45):
I have some I have some some words ready.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
So the first word y'all ready for this.

Speaker 1 (32:50):

Speaker 2 (32:52):
The first word is love.

Speaker 3 (32:59):

called come Over with Tank and it is probably my
favorite of Lia song of all time.

Speaker 4 (37:09):

Speaker 7 (43:11):
The not the echiss.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
Not the.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
Vita Coco.

Speaker 4 (43:19):
I love.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
All right, we got to come back with our last segment,
all right, y'all, So we're gonna go ahead and jump
into our yes, ma'am, and I know man pants segment.
This is the segment where we either give people their
flowers or we slap them with them. And this week
I am giving my flowers. So I'm going to spend
a quick seting y'all know that I have, Like I said,
I've been on the road I've done multiple stops and

(43:41):
for my book, I'm happy that it's done. Thank you
everybody who came out there was actually I forget the
name of the person who came to the last stop
in Minneapolis, and they were like, oh, actually, I'm a
huge fan of my podcast of your podcast, Joe Hot.
They send their love. With that being said, I wanted
to say thank you so much for coming to the
book stop. Really really appreciate you showing the love and
the support. But this week I want to stay in

(44:03):
my bag talking about the airports and the and the
and the things related to airlines. So for my yes
ma'am this week, I ultimately wanted to give my yes
ma'am to TSA agents who are actually nice. As someone
who travels a lot, it literally people don't understand a
nice TS agent can literally make or break your day

(44:25):
and or I should say a tsagent in general, right,
they have so much power in making you go, this
is going to be a good flight, this is gonna
be a good day, or literally making you be like
I hate the fucking airport so much. And so I
happened to come across. The story kind of folds into
what my Nomampam, but I actually was coming back. When

(44:47):
I was coming back from Columbus, I met a really
really really nice TSA agent, very complimentary, very much just
wanted to kind of know my life, and it was
really cool. I mean, Columbus is a very small airport,
so I know that that probably plays a ro in it,
but ultimately it's still made my actual trip back home
to Los Angeles a lot more just just brighter. So

(45:08):
if you're a TSA agent listening to this show, if
you know a TSA agent who ultimately is out there
working in the wild and they are nice, they haven't
lost their their humanity or their empathy, please send my
love to them because I understand and I know that
their job is hard. I know it's hard, but I
definitely want to say that I do also recognize when
people are also being great, even in tough situations. So

(45:31):
that's what I want to say on that my Noman Pam.
I'm gonna try to make the story very very short,
so that way I'm not talking y'all's ears off, but
long story short. I have pre I have pre check
and clear, so I know there's a separate lane for
pre check clear, and I normally don't have any problems
when I go through TSA. This week at LAX, I did,

(45:54):
and I it's hard because there was a moment in
the story I'm about to share where I want to
to like buck up and wanted to go off. But
because of the climate that we're in and the thought
too of like I'm not trying to go to jail
because flying is a part of my livelihood, I kind
of had to just eat the situation and it sucked.

(46:14):
And so to my trans girls who I know, they're like,
you know, I don't have TSA PreCheck and I go
through this shit every week, Like I want to recognize that, yes,
I'm privileged, and I understand that there's an elitist you know,
thought for me to have pre check. That's also partly
why I have PreCheck clear is so that I don't
have to worry about the about going through the machines

(46:35):
as a non binary person. But long story short, I
got clocked. I got clocked this week going through TSA,
and the male TSA agent wasn't nice about it. It
was very don't I don't even know how to explain
what it was, but he basically for those of you

(46:55):
who know when you go through a machine, the machines
are binary and they either know you male or female,
and if they can't tell your body parts, then there's
a whole thing around that. And long story short, the
male agent didn't like the fact that I was non
binary trance and he made sure everybody in the space
knew it, and so it was just a very It

(47:16):
was a very demeaning moment for me. I had never
experienced that, and so I mean, obviously, I'm a big girl,
I'm fine, and I shouldn't have to go through it,
and trans people shouldn't have to go through it in general.
So fuck you TSA for that. But I also want
to say, like, fuck these binary ass machines that I
think it's whatever they're doing in TSA, And this is

(47:37):
what I was saying in the pre show Joho. It's
really frustrating to me because I could have advocated for
myself in that situation, and because I know what kind
of climate we're in. I basically bit my tongue because
I was like, I don't want to have more problems
with this problem I already have and I knew that,
especially at LAX, they're looking for any reason to arrest

(47:59):
people at Lax is a very volatile airport. I think
people think because it's La, that it's easy and that
it's breezy. No Lax, shit goes down in Lax, And
I just didn't want to be a person who gets
caught up in the delta at the delta gates, so
I just kind of let it go. But I do
want to say, basically, my no man pam this week
are those fucking machines and and fuck ass TSA agents

(48:22):
who are who are transformed. So yeah, and you know,
really like this is the first time ever, and I
know it was because the machine couldn't tell if I
were I know that I knew what it was in
the moment. I knew what it was in the moment.
But it is what it is. So what is your
guest man's that no man PAMs for this week?

Speaker 4 (48:44):
There?

Speaker 5 (48:45):
Well, first off, I'm sorry that that happened to you,
because that's really terrible and I'm very.

Speaker 4 (48:52):
Sorry that you had to even just go through that
whole situation. And yeah, fuck you TSA and A machine.

Speaker 1 (48:59):
Yeah, because you should be the tea safe for this.
I can't I can't post that, but I want to yeah,
oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (49:07):
Yeah, don't do that. You know, you got a picture
of somebody that's looking like a baby. You may not
be a bit into the country.

Speaker 1 (49:15):
Right right right, yeah.

Speaker 5 (49:21):
My yes, ma'am is I just want to this is
a little story.

Speaker 4 (49:26):
So I went to the Beyonce Cowboy.

Speaker 2 (49:28):
Carter show in l a and then.

Speaker 5 (49:32):
Ay Man and and and the Cadillac was upright and
and going doing what it was supposed to myself.

Speaker 4 (49:42):
I walked back.

Speaker 5 (49:43):
This young young young man and I've seen his outfit.

Speaker 4 (49:47):
I said, oh, your outfit is oh, it's amazing, and
he said I made it. I said, okay, go on,
so he said take my Instagram. I said okay.

Speaker 5 (49:58):
And you know we've been cam unicating, and I just
want to give him his flowers because he made my pride.

Speaker 4 (50:04):
Outfit for me.

Speaker 5 (50:10):
Yes, and his name is Marquis and Marquise Designs, So
I just want to give him as flowers and thank
him and my homegirls who came over to help me
bedazzle my outfit when we got it here because he's
in Florida.

Speaker 4 (50:28):
So that's my yes, ma'am, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
Love that I love that. I love so much.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
Well, and so what a moment Beyonce brought us together.
Look what she's doing.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
She's doing the work, what she has done, She's doing
the work. Yes, and.

Speaker 4 (50:48):
My no, ma'am. I don't know if y'all want to.

Speaker 5 (50:50):
Have to block this out if but what I am
going to say is that like they've given j Low
the Michael again. Oh god, you know, because the pen
is so hot with the president.

Speaker 4 (51:07):
I just thought it was greater.

Speaker 5 (51:08):
You just signed an executive order to keep that laid
off over the stage because I'm tired. What she is
doing to us is absolutely diabolical.

Speaker 4 (51:19):
It's sinister. Hang it up, dance, but put the track
on a dance. I can't take it out one moment.
I'm just saying.

Speaker 8 (51:31):
Flat screen, flood screen.

Speaker 5 (51:37):
Out, the amount of flat shock, not reach notes that
I've heard on these clips.

Speaker 4 (51:47):
I'm up before and you have the audacity, the.

Speaker 5 (51:50):
Gumption, the goll gall to sing James Brown.

Speaker 1 (51:58):
So I think, so, no, no man, and you're actually
onto something. Yes, So yes, that is a no man
pan that I would check and if it wasn't, if
it's you can add that one to mine too, because
I'm also sick of her. But I was watching this,
uh there's this woman and I wish I knew what
her name was. I saw it in my algorithm. She

(52:18):
broke down, how we only ever see j Lo this
much when Beyonce is doing anything, When Beyonce is like
on tour, or when Beyonce is like promoting an album whatever,
there's this thing and I guess it goes back, she
was explaining, and and please correct me if I'm wrong,
but there she was clipping things together and she was
saying that there's this clip of I guess when they

(52:39):
work together. In two thousand and five or two thousand
and six, you remember when Beyonce and j Lo did
that PEPSI uh like it was like an old what
do you call that? It was a commercial, but it
was like an old They were no, they were dressed up.

Speaker 5 (52:58):
Like most.

Speaker 4 (53:01):
I thought they was in black catsuits or something to that.

Speaker 1 (53:04):
Okay, either way, they did a commercial together and basically
word on the curb is that and this is this
is from the clip. This is not me assuming this
is from the clip. Jlo pushed Beyonce in the pool
and there was this whole thing and Beyonce like laughed
it off, but the girl was just saying like that
j Loo has always had it out for Beyonce, Like
there are other clips where people have mentioned Beyonce too

(53:26):
j Loo and j Loo has, in so many words,
basically did what Carrie Hilson did This notion of like
I don't see it for Beyonce or I don't see
it for Beyonce's success. So I sail about to say,
that's the reason why we're being inundated with Jlo these days.
It's because Beyonce is on tour and Beyonce is getting
all the fanfare. That's why we're seeing more.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
This makes so much sense.

Speaker 3 (53:48):
I saw a clip it was like ten times Beyonce
was a Lariser interview and the.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
First clip was soon asking her about Jaylo and she says, oh, yes,
no does that mean.

Speaker 1 (54:05):
Yeah, I know exactly what to take away from your
your No, ma'am, I'm also sick of that lady as well.
I'm sickly out from and go please go away, just

(54:25):
go away? What about.

Speaker 2 (54:28):
Okay? My yes, ma'am is a my very my, very
wholesome yes, ma'am.

Speaker 3 (54:34):
In addition to giving people the flowers, won't give flowers
to my friend and the previous guests of the pod
t J tally they are historian residents at Landa Archives
and send you go which focuses on I'm tracking as
we keep us history in this in the region, and
you discover the records of someone named I'm gonna say
Ron but Marty Mackie, who is a black queer activist

(54:56):
and writer lesbian from the eighties, very much like la
Audrey Lord.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
She actually passed away a month after Audrey Lord.

Speaker 3 (55:03):
So their bituays were together in some of some articles
and TJ built a whole program that's that's happened this
evening that is discussing black histories and black futures through
a queer trans lands. I've been a panel I've been
thinking on myself with out with our Amber, Saint James,
as well some other black con transports in the in
the in the the city.

Speaker 2 (55:25):
But times off comes out the eventoray have happened.

Speaker 3 (55:27):
But one can teach you the flowers for doing something
like this in the community and having incriminal people in
this discussion, because like this is just not not often
that we discuss black history in San Diego in this
way that we can actually uncover unearthed like tangible black
history and black queer and trans history in this way,
like in like TG found the footage of their interviews,
audio clips of audio cups of interviews, their writings used

(55:49):
to write for a paper, So it's also amazing and
then and it's also amazing to seeing like how many things,
how things have changed us and bolts all things are
so the same like that, Like there's several clips of
Marty were writing about how expensive it is to live
in Hillcrest and how like all you see, all you
see the white gays, and I'm like much just changed
you going forty years. But also like good to know

(56:10):
that that that people have been talking about this for
forty thatways, you know that's not it's not a new discussion.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
It's a discussion.

Speaker 3 (56:16):
It's been happening so very night. So TJ, if you
listen to this, I'm giving your flowers. We'll give you
fowers tonight when I see you as well.

Speaker 1 (56:23):
You We love you.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Teachers speak your name you are professor or prefa soda
My know, Mam pam is. I don't know who this
woman is, but she made.

Speaker 3 (56:33):
A video that called me out and like and she
ain't called me out personally at all. She just said
that people are ghosting their goals and they're not tired,
they're just distracted. And I felt called out by that.
She's me as a person. I just felt very cold
out that. She was like, stop ghosting your goals, you
laid the bitch, and stop saying you're tired when you're

(56:53):
distracting yourself. She said, stop doing scho on Instagram and
go out and do something, bitch. And I was like,
why she being so mean. I of that, and I
hear you, but I felt hold out, n felt, and
I felt and honestly fu Instagram for.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
Targeting me with with that video. Why did you say
to me you had one billion years this vision one
needs to go to. I just can't really targeted by it.

Speaker 3 (57:14):
And during that Pride month, during Nasty, the month of
Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, it just feels it just feels really
it felsn't he black. It feels it feels it just
about it if it's all the things, all the about like,
I just don't love it.

Speaker 2 (57:28):
I mean, truly, she was. She was correct, She was
not not one lie was told about me being lazy.

Speaker 3 (57:34):
But I really hate so if I ever see this
woman in the streets girl, it's on site her but
also like her.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
It will help me so much with motivation. But I
hate you, bitch for saying all that ship and that's
all that, But.

Speaker 1 (57:50):
Why do you think that?

Speaker 2 (57:51):
Why do you think? Why would you say that? If
I can, but if I can't go to where can
we go?

Speaker 1 (57:57):
Where? Where the hell.

Speaker 2 (57:59):
We're going?
