Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is he said with Eric Winter and Rosalind Fantees
with Eric Winter and Rosalind Sanchez lack On with us. Yeah,
I'm a little stressed out still. Why we had a
very high energy, stressful weekend. Our daughter is now competing
(00:22):
in tennis tournaments. Oh my god, Savy, it is the
most nervous watching your child. It's like everything I've I've
been dreaming about to watch our daughter and soon Dylan,
like you know you They practice, practice, practice, and then
finally get to compete and it's for fun their kids.
But oh, I was an athlete my whole life. So
(00:42):
to be able to live this sort of journey through
Sabella and her experience and now with tennis is mono imano,
like they're pushed out there by themselves and they're on
the court there, Mada, no, no, no no. This is
her second tournament. The first one was like two weeks
(01:04):
ago and it was we didn't sleep four days. I
was she was actually fine. We were like freaking out.
She's she's doing great. She took second place in this tournament,
which we were super excited about playing. She's an attendant
under divisions. She played two ten year olds and a
nine year old second place the girls and this is
not a joke, and this was I thought it was abusive.
(01:27):
We get this girl. Giants were huge, like double her size.
I was convinced. And there were only eight or nine.
I was like, one was nine, was ten and the
other one was ten. There were twice her size. They
were very tall, nine and ten year olds, very tall
and beautiful and really good, super talented. I saw them
warming up and I was like, oh my god, Sam,
(01:48):
he doesn't have a chance. She did one of them,
she did so great. But the thing with tennis, and
it's like this in the pros, but these young tournaments
is they don't have linesmen, so there's no or lions women.
There's nobody calling in or out except for the two
girls playing, so it's at their discretion, which we can
imagine how that's gonna go with eight nine year olds.
(02:08):
When the ball is clearly in on the line, they're like, like,
I pay attention and I call it. Well, but here's
the thing. They don't want the parents to interact, and
you're not allowed to coach, and you can't yell, and
there's all this courtesy stuff, and it's hard enough for
me bodying my tongue. But with Rosalind, she's out of
her damn mind with this stuff and I and she's
always been like that where she can't control her emotion.
(02:30):
But I'm like the half of the tournament, it's me saying, Rosalind,
enough stop, it's er, just let me be. You can't
because then Sibella goes, mom, you're mere embarrassing. Don't say that.
She thinks she's thinking that's enough. She's in the middle
of I just go and drives her crazy. It's like, mom,
I heard you that time, but you have to be
so polite and quiet during the time. You know what
(02:51):
I had to do. Guys. So she's playing this dad
with the two daughters, right, the big big girls. So
I knew that I was maybe a little bit it
loud annoying, so I you know what, I was very respectful.
I went to the guy and I said, listen, I
just want you to know we're very animated. So I
apologize before we even start. I'm going to annoy you.
First of all, a crowd of like ten everybody every
(03:15):
other parents used to doing it. They're just by themselves
with their one you know, the kids playing or two
kids playing. You know people, I'm gonna we have all
er Well, then what was also crazy about this one?
Which had me all riled up? And I got over.
It's just, you know, this is kids and it's fun.
(03:35):
But they messed up in the scoring. The person on
the court wasn't keeping track, and they did not award
Sabella second place. And then we got home and I
was like, the only thing is that they're given the trophies.
And we were convinced we knew that she got second place, right,
So I have my my phone out ready, the video ready.
They announced it and we all looked at each other
(03:56):
and good job, but you didn't get was like, but
we were like embarrassed, and then the girl grabbed. She
was We're not gonna tell the girl. I wanted the
girl to have her moment. They all played really hard,
and then we go at home and we just got
to get over and then the whole the whole time,
we're trying to explain to Sabella how she almost got it,
but this is why she We're convincing ourselves that the
(04:17):
scoring was correct, even though we knew what was wrong.
And we get home and I'm going, something's not right
and I became like that crazy dad. I drove to
the facility after we had left and I said, guys,
you're wrong. You did this incorrectly. I don't want to
take the trophy away from the other girl, but this
was incorrect, and they did it. They looked everything up
and they were like, oh my god, you're right your daughter.
(04:38):
One second, we will go get a trophy made for
her and we're gonna bring it to the house and
give her a little presentation. So she's super excited. Hopefully
she has another tournament in a few weeks. Were freaking out.
We are we are we like the pushy parents. Are
we like the stage parents? Try really, I don't know
if we're trying to force her, but we're definitely stage parents.
We are taking easy. We always tell her, listen, this
(04:59):
is fun. Your decision. Um. She can stop and then
she well, we'll not really. I tell that she has
to say when she's eighteen, but she has to play.
She has to do something. She can't just sit at home.
She wants to have a formal sport, a form of dance,
and an instrument, and that's not She can pack whatever
she wants, but she keeps coming back to tennis, which
(05:19):
you think because she's so good and I hope she
keeps going in a Puerto Rican champ we have one
morning we won the Olympic gold. We die Fernandez. She
won the Olympic gold and doubles. I believe, not representing
Puerto Rico, but she still Puerto Rican. So proble she
just keeps playing. Who knows what's going to happen. But
that was a big chunk of our weekend. We were
so proud of her, Savy, we love you so much.
(05:41):
And then something else happen. So it was Valentine's Well
last week. Archie has been adopted since he came to
a lay back in December. But every had to had
to feel like you had to say, I had to say,
what are you talking about this podcast? No, I how
to say the dog is dropped off by your mom
(06:03):
and just left here. Yeah, everybody knows my connection with Archie,
that you play on the whole thing. I didn't completely
to say, and we're not gonna fly. I'm just I'm
just trying to be funny. I didn't play, I didn't
parable job in in Valentine's. It gives me a Valentine
(06:23):
card and gives Sabella a Valentine card and both cards
said that Archie, it's adopted and it's part of the family.
This is true story. There's the conclude. Was very happy
and I was very happy. Listen, He's an amazing dog.
Was sweetheart, is freaking Archie. He really has taken to
(06:45):
our family. And you know what, sometimes things don't line
up the way you think they're going to. But he
came to us for a reason and we're happy to
take him in. It's going to be awesome. I love him.
He's a sweetheart. So Archie has a home. Chie. We
are done. Two dogs, We're done. No, we need we
need the Los Angeles and Los Angeles, we need the rescuer.
(07:09):
I'm good. We got the Puerto Rican rescus. Guys, we're
getting on rescue anyways. So then something else. You are
going to be hosting entertainment tonight. Freaking out. It's gonna
be fun. I've done some, you know a handful of
hosting things, but never like fully co hosting one of
these talk shows. Yeah, to do co host entertainment tonight.
This is gonna be a really cool thing. You're perfect
(07:31):
fit for that. Do you like the the guy that
looks like a host, acts like a host, talks like
you host more than I do. I mean, I'm gonna
talk about he said, you get to talk about the KA.
It's gonna be a really fun experience following in your
footsteps a bit. You've hosted quite a bit more than me. Look,
it's a very different um for people that aren't the
entertainment world. You know, it's a totally different skill set
(07:54):
that you know. I'm I'm learning as well. You know,
one of our close friends who we had on last episode,
Mario Lopez, a fun nominal host. Like people, not everyone
can be a great host. It's not just talking, it's
being relatable and fun and charismatic and and just making
all the information feel like I'm having a conversation with you.
It's very a lot of pressure, it's a lot of
(08:15):
you when you're doing it with pros, it's nerve wracking.
You're gonna do well, You're gonna do really good. I
can't wait to see. Thank you so much for the support,
and I'm so supportive, very positive. Today is like yes,
I'm your biggest fanho only took fourteen years to get
that years for that and today, after the break is
(08:38):
going to be so good because we have a dear
friend of mine that is also friends with Eric. But um,
I've known him for many years, we have worked together.
He's a massive, super talented, super talented median. Yeah he
can do you know him and do it all. He
can say things incredible. Yeah. So we have Hi mak
(08:58):
a Meal I make a Meal as a Mexican actor.
Actually he's Mexican, Brazilian, Egyptian. Incredible, incredible combination. And he's
mega talented. He has a new show for CBS. He
has a movie out right now with Pantalon Las. Yes,
(09:22):
but in the end anyways, he is going you're learning
a little bit, so we can. We can't wait to
introduce you to him. Camille a break right, We are
(09:44):
back from the break here to celebrate our good friend
I make Camille. Why do I adore you so much?
Understand because you are bearable human beings, but for some
reason we all love you. You know who's having lunch
yesterday at our place that we love the Kiwami woman,
Judy and were so really really really close friends. Yes,
(10:11):
Ms Dudy, miss Anna the Devious Mates. You know that
you two work together on Devious Mate to death. That's right,
my abusive husband. Isn't that sad the first time we
worked together. You're an abusive husband and I well, it's not.
I mean it is sad because I wanted to kill
you and I couldn't, So you gotta taste it. It's
like to be appreciate it. Okay, we'll know who's not
(10:35):
going to keep in the house tonight. I'm sorry, dog House.
You're going to living with Archie. Eric. You have to
talk about Archie anyways. Well, I'm so happy you're here.
You know bad We love you back. Besides doing Devious
Mates with I co hosted the Grammys. It was a
two thousand seventeen that we did that. I think you
(10:55):
could will hosted and I was. I had a baby
in ten days I met you. It is insane. It
is in a good way. Now badass like killer like
I was gonna the arguments we had going into ye Latin.
When you see when you say badasses from not like
(11:17):
roar rock star exactly, yes, some rock star. How do
you say that you had me? You warm me if
something happens to the baby, because I'm not gonna fly.
I would I made you. We rented him or say,
a sprinter via van drive. I didn't want to. Guys,
(11:38):
You're right, I'm thinking, I'm like country. It took out
five hours with the nanny, and it was two nannies,
I mean, and the sprinter and the sprinter and this guy.
But I remember that. I was all about it. And
then I got there and I'm doing the red carpet
and I'm bleeding, like blood coming down my guards. You're bleeding.
(11:59):
You had baby three hours ago. I tell policies, I'm bleeding.
I'm bleeding. Please check, please check. Oh. It was awful.
And then I was like, what am I doing to you?
What am I doing? I have a feeling I'm able
to support me on this. Your wife is a host,
had she had delivered a baby, delivered your baby ten
days before going to host an event, how would you
feel perfectly fine? I will be perfectly fine. You all
(12:22):
don't see the fist pump and the cahoots at these
two on the side. We had a blast. We had
a blast. We had a blast. Russelling looked freaking amazing.
Even though she was internally bleeding, she was externally beleeding
breast externally between between between rehearsals something, well, the show
(12:48):
is sto. How do you do that? Because usually because
my wife, of course, it leaks. How do you like
the dress? Us and everything? How? Because you know why?
Deep meaning, I didn't produce a lot of milk, okay,
so I didn't have that problem. Wasn't exploring to to
be able to breastfeed my child. It was like pulling teeth.
(13:10):
It was horrific because I just didn't produce a lot.
So I never had oh my god, I'm leaking, Oh
my god, I'm married. Okay, okay, And then you just
go back and put that little pump on. It's like
milking cant if I were changing my hair and makeup.
I was pumping, and there's two minutes, two minutes and going,
and then I had them editing, the assistant running to
the venue, grabbing the milk and running back to the
(13:30):
hotel to give it to to bring it to the baby.
It was Saturday's White Gold. That's what more working mothers do.
It's okay anyways, anyway, so now let's talk about you.
Let's talk about want to do I want to do?
(13:51):
I want to talk about you. And we're gonna talk
about the movie for sure. So pup quiz, pup quiz,
when did you move to the States. Well, if I've
been here for like the past ten years, but steady
for the past six years, and you came here specifically
to act, I came here by accident, because you know
how we how it is for us, for Latin American actors.
(14:11):
We come here and we want to be here during
pilot season. It's it's it's nothing like because because you
have to be here and live here for a year
or two years and devote yourself to the town and
work the town or whatever. So So when I finished,
if you can imagine Eric me as a female, I'll
show you a picture. You might ask which was a
huge serious image. You might ask for my number. But
(14:37):
but when I finished that, I told Rossio Campo, my
dear friend and producer, I'm like, you know what I'm
going to do, l A. I'm going to be there
for a year. I have the financial stability to devote
myself there for one year and see what happens. And
then I'm here one month, one month in and she
calls me, ay, listen, I have paberes rico, which is,
you know, the Columbian property Ricos, and I'm like, great,
(14:58):
who's doing it? Like it's like you. I'm like, no,
I told you, Rosie, I'm gonna be here for you know, no, no, whatever.
So my manners were like, come on, eight months is
super fast. It'll go fast, It'll go by really fast.
I'm like okay. So I went back. But I told
her without having, of course, any offer on the table whatsoever.
But you know you are, you are hopeful. So you're like, well, Rose,
(15:20):
you know they might call me from the stage all eyes,
they might call me and I might any time to
go and do a pilot, which one none exactly. And
they called me and they called me to offer. First
of all, they go, you know, reactors, we are the
most rejected profession in the universe. In the universe. The
(15:42):
thickness of her skin and the strength of our heart,
it's unmatchable. Like so, I'm like, well, you have two
three director offers. I'm like, great, when are we auditioning?
And they're like, no, it's no their offers. Yeah. Still
I don't. I don't. I don't understand the concept. When
do we did? Know? No, nuts means that they like it,
it's yours. I'm like, oh, wait, well, I'm not I'm
(16:03):
not familiar with this concept. Thank you. So it was
a role in narticles. It was an ABC show called
Agathe got didn't get picked up. And then Jane the Virgin.
So I read the scripts, I'm like, well, I love
Jane the Virgin. It's so creative. So I love this show.
Let's do it so and then you know the rest
is history. Made the right choice, made that choice, change
(16:25):
the path. How important is it to you to be
able to still cultivate both markets. You're here in the
States full time, but you still do things in Mexico. Correct.
I'm always going to be wherever they offer me the
blessing of offering me a job. I will always be there,
grateful and super happy about me being able to, you know,
have a job and provide for my family. So right
now I was in the US Mexico. Then it can
(16:47):
be Columbia, Spain or whatever were And you know, sometimes
in our countries they ask us in a very bad
are you will you ever come again? And do not
like they're insulting you. It's like, first of all, it's
not an insults. Second of all, this work wherever they
give me the blessing of offering me a job. I
will be there with a with a smile. And what
(17:07):
do we go back and forth on this as well?
You have a family of two kids, what do you
just up and move immediate or depending on the length
of the job, you will go back and forth and
you'll fly back and forth and home basis as now,
every decision has to do with my family. Not so much.
It's not the word driven. It's more it's more family
driven than than the word driven. Without a doubt, you
are the things that they offer before. Of course, not
(17:31):
because we don't like to be insulted, but and I
we share this thing. We don't like to be insulted
as human beings. So so yeah, so we have to
say no. We have to say no. I mean it
makes it very easy for us to say no because
the morons, it is insane, that will be having amazing Yeah,
so of course you say no. But it was like,
well you have to work, oh no, And then when
(17:53):
you're negotiating, they tell to our reps in their face,
oh no, we might break some basic laborl loss and
you're like, yeah, that's why you know, I think that's
illegal in some maybe not in you know, but I'm
sure it's illegal in some place of the world. So
of course we passed. But that that thing was a project.
(18:15):
For example, Monday through Saturday. We can give you maybe
one Saturday per month, and you're gonna work more than
twelve hours a day, and we may or may not
give you r turnaround in Miami, in Mexico, not in town.
I was like Wales then to think, oh, and we're
gonna pay you one third of what you deserve or
(18:36):
what what you work so hardly exactly, You're like, okay,
let me seek. That's a very difficult No. Of course,
of course you passed. So what happens if you get
a show next? What were you doing? Broke over here
with shot? I got it Broke April two, Sitcom mult
(19:02):
Camp Sitcom Multi Camp thirty minute live audience, April second, Thursday,
nine thirty pm. Which is great because that the comedy
block on that day for CBS is super strung. They
have young Sheldon men with the plan it's going to
be going to it's gonna be amazing, So that Broke
is gonna be in the air seven years, eight years.
(19:22):
You watch, then your next one is you have to
move to Toronto. Will you do that and your family here? Yeah,
that's the point that I was trying to make with
the whole telemoone or deal. I told him, listen, I'll
be more than happy to sacrifice myself and and go sacrifice.
I mean his job, right, but but you know what
I mean, like not being near my family as much
as I would like to. I'll be more than happy
(19:42):
to work for you from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I'll
take the Red Eye on Thursday to be with my family, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, and then I'll take the Red Eye
on Sunday too. And it was like, no, We'll give
you one Saturday a month. I'm like, no, You're crazy,
you know what. And of course my family goes here
to school, they leave that. You know. When I did
(20:06):
my one of my first and one of my first
jobs ever when I moved to l A was an
ARC on Nash Bridges with Don Johnson and it was
in San Francisco. So I was there for a couple
of months and I remember that he worked Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
three times a week. Three times a week is the
same thing, the same thing. And then and then Anthon
(20:27):
LaPaglia when I did with that a trace for five years.
I think Anthony was, yeah, no Fridays on the Mondays
he had the easiest going. You know what, that's the
life that but it's doable for some people. Brookshiels told
me this you've never done. Brooke was like, you never
Brooke because you know we're friends exactly. I mean she
was my nemesis on Jane the Virgin when I love
her Riverfields. She was like, you've never done a multi game, right,
(20:50):
I'm like, never email live. She was like, dude, you
guys know that's what it is, the best job in
the world. So now that you're doing it, isn't is
it much as aggressive it is? It is? It is.
This is what we do. We it's a week we work.
First of all, we worked three weeks and one week
off because we are too good for four weeks. And
(21:11):
then you start on Wednesday, you have a table read
and then you go home, and then on on Thursday
your rehearse from nine am to one pm. You do
the producers run through, which is an hour, and then
you go home and then the right day you do
the same thing. You're rehearse in the morning network run
through from one to thirty or two to three, and
then you go home and then and then on Monday
(21:32):
you do a pre pre tape of some pre tape
some some scenes, and then on Tuesday you get there
at eleven eleven thirty, you block what you're gonna shoot
with the live audience. And that's a long day. You
finished at nine pm n thet It's super cool and
I mean I was on No Como two. I was
(21:55):
born for this. I love it. I mean I was
born for multi. I love the interaction with the audience.
But I love it. I wish you like incredible success.
I can't wait to si it's gonna be personality the third, right, Yes,
how old are they now? Five and eight? Eight? We
(22:17):
have eight and two? So what happens you see any
inclination that one of them is going to be in
the business, apparbably my son? What's the family opinion on that?
Totally fine with parents. You have to support your kids
and whatever you want, whatever they want to do. It's
really comfortable with that, and they want to do that.
We we approach parenting very similar similarly. Yes, okay, so
(22:39):
would you just have to uh support them and give
them the tools you know, to be uh to make
the best decisions in life and to have like a
very unbreakable and very well calibrated moral compass, an ethical compass.
But at the end of the day, kids are are
lent lend it to us? Are you? So you just
(23:05):
you just do the best that you can. But you
guys done with two? Are you're gonna really? We are? Yeah,
I think because we don't have nanny and we are
very committed parents, and as you know, it's a lot
of work. So two of them it's insane, and having
three and then holy man, it's difficult. And then Ricky
Martin didn't help at all. We were at El Longoria's
(23:25):
name dropping Longoria's wedding and rig It's brassos the number
of your arms and Ki goes like, well you have
to and he has to and I'm like, yeah, you're
not helping, man, And he has he has four and
you know what, the husband would like to do another one.
It's not funny, but I don't think it's gonna happen.
Before is a lot, forced a lot is a lot okay?
(23:47):
And favorite book I don't I don't read as much
and I like to read like a psychimist, the Alchemist.
I love the Vible. I loved James Patterson. Remember, remember,
remember old James Patterson books. I just love them. James
(24:08):
Patterson is a big writer, big big crime or Crime.
And also Watson Michael Crichton is the guy that wrote
a Jurassic Park right all of his book. I love
Brown with Vine. I love them, but their book is
much much better than the movie four because you can
(24:29):
put more more little things into the book. Now we're
in forty five. Do you like motivational self coaching thing? No? Zero? Really?
I saw a documentary last night. I don't think I
need more encouragement. Yeah, but I need I need Eric
to know this guy um Louis Host. I don't know
(24:59):
how to say the last name. He has a documentary
called Chasing Greatness, and it's pretty incredible. Anyways, So I
do I do like them. I do like them. I
love them. How long you been married legally or with
my wife? With my wife had been like thirteen fourteen years,
two thousand, two twelve, two thousand before kids, before you, No,
(25:20):
we already had a Lena. Okay, we had Alena two
thousand twelve. We got married with the beautiful state of California,
and then uh, and then a year or two years
after that, we got like we had a beautiful, like
religious ceremony in Mexico. How did you guys meet? We met?
I believe she was doing a she was a very
she's still an extremely beautiful woman. But she was a
(25:41):
model back in the day she was hosting. She yes,
she was hosting, but not when I met her. She
was just modeling like a top model in Mexico. And
there was a Maxim you know, the magazine, Maxim magazine
event that I was hosting, and I met her there.
We met at a Maxim magazine party. Same thing. Really yeah, stop,
(26:02):
thank you, Sony Frost Pioneer. And it was also maximum.
You don't remember anything about it. Maximum, maximum, one hundred
is what it was. Everyone. Also, my heart is also
breaking with yours right now. I'm used to it. I
(26:22):
just I guys love that Maxim magazine is making couples
left and right. It's incredible. Thank you much. You have
two kids. We've been together fourteen You guys have been
to lasting relationships. Not who magazine magazine. It's like tinder
of magazines. Total turned the page swipe. Okay, so what
(26:46):
is your love language? The language? Have your language? Languages?
We always talk about the five languages. There's a book
and it's words of affirmation, physical will touch. Um, I'm
probably I'm probably very physical physical touch, like Eric, annoying, good, annoying.
(27:12):
It's drives life. But but I do have I do
have talks with my wife because because it was like
we in my mind, of course we are super connected.
But sometimes she's like, we have to connect more and
talk more about things, and you should show that you
are really interested in my things. And I'm like, but
I am in my mind, I am not enough be
(27:33):
more engaged. Because apparently, so quit time. Eric. Apparently you
seduce women also by the intellect apparently apparently, I mean,
so they say, what are we doing in the gym?
Have a problem? We need to read more books. I
have a problem. What intellect do you have? Into tons
(28:01):
a smart super kind of No, No, he's okay, he's
kind of smart. You're very smart, you're very well read
super culturally, Um, ahead, intellect, it sounds like yours is
physical touch that it sounds like physical touch. What about
(28:23):
do you think the other options? Touch gifts, words, of affirmation,
quality time, acts of service. Acts of service that's the
other one. What is the service would be like taking
parents for them or they do for you? Like what
are the things that make not what you do for them?
What makes you tick? I do everything for my wife?
(28:44):
What makes what makes you tick? What do you need? Like?
Like good? What makes you your clock? Makes you? Like?
What makes you happy? If someone gives you quality time,
gives you physical touch? When I give gifts? When when
I give, but that's more happy than whenever I received.
But the way you give, the way that that has
(29:06):
to be hades um love language as well. So whatever
you do is what helps the other person. It's what
you want in return, like what what would be your
Oh my god, what would be the thing that makes
you the most happy? Physical touch? Don't know when you
get gifts? Words of affirmation, quality time? Words of affirmation
(29:28):
seems to me a little like superficial No. But it
doesn't have to be like you're so high. It could
just be like, oh, I really appreciate you to that,
you know I that's a big one for me, just
ac eric doesn't function if it doesn't feel like I'm
thankful and grateful. I think that the problem here is you.
You have a problem. So you know what, guys, A
(29:51):
little words of affirmation, that's what I look at. Good
to touch me, tell me you appreciate me. Let's go.
I agree with you and talk to you to I
appreciate you. Thank you for I think I'm gonna leave
now the lights and I'll talk to a little bit.
Oh my god, listen you. You might be rewarded to that.
(30:12):
With that, it's what is your biggest fear? My biggest fear,
that's something whatever could happen to my kids. It has
become really like it really touches my soul in my
heart whenever I think about harm that might happen to
my kids. So you're you're not able to watch a
movie because watch anything? Room or the room, the room,
(30:35):
the room I started watching. I started watching I'm Away
with my Wife. The first scene is a little girl
being molested. He gave me. After thirteen seconds, I'm like,
get this of the TV. I can't watch anything anymore
that affects kids in anything, it drives me mad, nightmares.
I could watch any other horror film, anything else. Nonsense
(30:56):
doesn't bother me. Kids. I cannot what is your biggest accomplishment.
My biggest accomplishment probably is being the type of da
that I am. I think, I think, so that's definitely one.
(31:19):
So now I want to talk about your movie. God,
I love it. We are support we are supporting this
movie in all the mainstream market, like the My Boyfriend's
Man's I'm like, that's not even on the poster, so
I can imagine we're going through the movie. Hi, I
will take this for my boyfriend's mats. Yes, not listed, Like, no,
it is exactly. So I tell all all my American friends, like,
(31:43):
I'm like, either look from my face on the poster
or go And if you read something that's read something
like in the line of last Pildora's Day, my novios,
Oh my god. So the movie is full comedy, correct
kind of yeah, yeah, romantic comedy. Is it by lingual?
(32:04):
Is it Spanish English? Or it is by lingual because
immigrants that live in this country, we turn to our
Latino peeps and we speak in Spanish in the most
organic and natural way. And then we turned to our
coworkers and we speak with them in English. And it's
the most normal thing that the immigrants who lived in
this country that's how we roll. Um, you decided to
do it because you love the script or your costar
(32:25):
or the director. I would love the script. I had
the script like four years ago, and I was reading
the script and I was laughing out loud with this guy.
And it's beautiful because she touches on mental health conditions
in a way that we don't insult anyone, or we
are not being disrespectful. It's just that comedy. As you know,
comedies have very efficient vehicle to to touch sensitive sensitive subjects,
(32:48):
either a genocide or mental health issues. It's just it's
just very very if no so um, and it lets
you talk about the subject in an open way, like
to put them on the table openly, without taboos or anything.
So I love it. I love the how comedy can
give your first time working with Sandraria. Second time, yes,
(33:12):
but the first time we did, you know, the Secret
Life of Pets, Remember the part one where Gidet is
watching a novella that's sanding myself. That's awesome, But you
guys been friends for years before that. That first the
first time we met, we didn't even met there because
over exactly so we met. I called her and I
was a direct offer. I'm like, Sandra, would you like
(33:32):
to do this part of what I mean? She was
super happy and she was like yes because people might
might see Sandra is more like a dramatic actor, but
but she's super funny. Can do sometime about able Sandra.
So I know Sandra's work because I love Lokado, so
I've seen her work right, like three of her movies,
and I knew who she was very well. There is
uh Yogur Place, Leonoso Bay Place on Student Stadium. You've
(33:54):
been there, of course, which is great. So when goes
there very real, that is great. I just saw him
on the Grammars he opened, he was the big number.
He was one of the he was open. Anyways, so
the owners of Invitos over for dinner because we became acquaintances,
and they're very nice and he's the owners are a
big Italian director, producer and now he teaches here film
(34:15):
and all that. So we go to dinner. We go
to the house and another couple shows up and we're like, oh,
this is interesting. I thought it was just the two
of us, but I guess they have another couple. So
the other couple was doing the funny thing is that
we're both acting and I clearly know who she is.
(34:37):
She clearly knows who I am, but we're acting the
first twenty minutes like we don't really know each other.
Were stupid, but still she was so grateful and so nice.
So we're sitting down. The owners are still cooking the
lobster and the whole thing. So we're sitting there and
looking at each other. Husband correct. So we're talking and
(34:59):
then a little about little it came up that I
know who you are, you know who I am, and
I have to tell you something. That connection we had
and Eric knows this, and it's very difficult for women
in the same business that compete, you know what I mean,
and people have a perception of you to be able
to just talk with without an ounce of insecurity or
hattiness or you know what I mean. It was nothing
(35:20):
but love and respect and admiration. I love that woman.
She's amazing. She's amazing. Also, she's a rock He's a
rock star. I know he's super time that yes, and
the kid is beautiful. So I was so happy when
I heard that she was doing this movie with It
was going, Oh my god, two of my favorite people together.
I love her I love her. I think she's a
great person, great mother, great wife, great friend. So I'm
(35:43):
happy you're doing this with with her. And tell us
a little bit about your movie. It's so funny, it's
about it's it's what was written by by Gary Marks
and Randy Meyam singer who wrote Missus out Fire. So
the backbone of the movie is super solid and it's
very good. And it's about Hag. You know, this guy
that has his mental conditions and takes medicine to like
live his life as as as normally as possible. But
(36:05):
then Sandra's character invites him to a retreat, to a
company retreat, and he forgets his mads, his medicine, and
then everything bipolar, agoraphobic TC, obsessive compulsive disorder to rets syndrome.
(36:26):
Like he has sources of conditions which makes which gives
Lapierre to Comedia very very very communic situations. But anymore,
and Diego Caplan, I love. I love that movie, so
(36:47):
and we try to work with Diego. We had a
property Diego from from Oh my God, I love the Caplan.
So I'm so excited for you guys. We might do
those of Mexican version. You and I rite Ricardo Cueto
calling you to do those He told me that you
were one of his options. Are you joking of the
producers that they're trying to do They're trying to do
(37:08):
a remake, trying to do a remake of No cong No,
this is I don't know the producer, okay, so he
will be producing the movie. And I signed yes. I
was the letter as you do for the letter of
intent or whatever for the for the government government incentive
(37:30):
that Mexico gives you. So I did the letter of
intent and everything. They don't have a data or anything.
I will. I love that movie. I love and love
and love and love it. Oh my god, let work. Yeah,
and I'm not gonna be strangling you to be sex.
What is with those? It's either as triangulation or these
(37:54):
crazy extremes. So we need everybody to go support this movie.
Guys port. We talked with im a little bit about
how interesting it is within the Latino community and that
we don't show the love that for example, the African
American community, those with their products right, whatever they do,
(38:15):
they supported and we understand that as Latinos were very segregated.
Unfortunately because the Mexican humor has nothing to do with
Puerto Rican humor, and and and therefore I don't want
to watch that movie because I don't feel represented and
it should be much bigger than that. It should be about.
But then against situational comedy is university exactly exactly what
people have to get over that people exactly if it's
(38:37):
well executed, if it's well written, well directed, and well acted,
it doesn't matter where you're from, you're gonna get it.
But Latinos have an issue with supporting with all their
hearts the product that we put out there. And that's
why the Anglo market, right the US market, they would
love to give us the opportunity. But when they go
(38:57):
back to textbook and they do theirs sentages and they
look at the gains and the profits and they realize,
but nobody shut up. Can you imagine and how crazy
it is that sixty or seventy percent of movie gores
are Latinos in this country? But you know what it's like?
So what's what's what's So? Maybe I'm wrong to ask
you something? Is it? I'm sorry to interrupt? This is there?
(39:19):
Is there is the same like for example, if you're
from Puerto Rico. Is are the Puerto Ricans more severe
with with you because you're from Puerto Rico? Like, will
will they increase more like critically? Yeah? Will they embrace
more like a Colombian actor than a Puerto Rican commod
(39:39):
What I'm trying to say is this that to English,
nobody is a prophet in their own land. Yeah, like
you have to make it outside and if you become
a big star exactly exactly, but if you try to
make it in the country there, it's it's a different
level of respect. It's really interesting with this and with
(40:00):
or even if you make it outside when you go
to your country's like, I don't know, it's it's very strange.
It's very strange. I don't know. When we do that Latinos,
we we we have an issue we have we need
to change that and it's time. It's time. You know,
what's happening because everybody, like in crisis, Latino's come together.
If something bad happening, everybody comes and supports. Earthquakes in Mexico,
(40:21):
the hurricane in Puerto Rico, everybody comes together and it's
a beautiful thing. But it crisis and you're being victorious
because we need to support each other because we complain
there's not enough jobs. You know, there's not there's not
a lot of representation. What's happening, what's happening. You know
what's happening. We don't support that's what's happening exactly, you know.
So it needs to change, especially when you do things
with there's so much sacrifice and love and work involved
(40:44):
into doing a movie or doing a TV show, and
then you put it out there. You have to let
it go, hope for the best, and it doesn't work.
It's devastating and we don't deserve it. Agree when representative
and you know, honesty as well. It's something I don't like.
Also the narrative where when people go like we have
to support it, yeah, but your movie, Yeah, but you
(41:05):
have to support. I have a problem with that narrative
because if the movie is not good and it's not
well produced and the story is not strong, then if
something's bad, it's bad. Nobody support. I mean, it's not
even about not just content, but like good content support exactly.
Remember that subjective guys might be amazing, it's amazing to somebody,
(41:30):
might be not not as amazing to me. I get
what you're saying we shouldn't get a handicap because, oh,
because we're Latinos, we should be treated a little a little,
a little better because we are not as good. That's
that's a problem, not at all. And you know what
I took. It is so interesting because I took a
meeting with an executive of a studio because I was
teaching something names but she's Latin. She's like, yes, we're going.
(42:05):
It's interesting because she said it right to my face,
and she was saying that she has an issue with
UM hiring diverse, diversity, diversity because she goes, if I
get ten scripts and only two are very solid from
Latino actors and I solid solid scripts, but five or
not whatever, I'm not going to buy them just because
(42:25):
it's it's a Latino. I need to write, I need
to buy with. So if it's all American, white American,
is going to have to be white American. She said
it right to my face. And I said, but let
me ask you something. Even listen, even when you're casting
and casting directors and actors that are producing now, right,
there's a role for a female Latina that it supposed
(42:47):
to be funny, right, and they tell you. We saw
everybody and it's just nobody's good. Nobody's good. It's really
interesting to me. I don't know, it's really and really
you couldn't find one girl all that can do this
material kill it. And they're like, you know, it's not everybody,
and it's very hard. There's not a lot of funny people.
Do you know how they're going? That's crazy to me. No,
(43:08):
it's crazy. And it's a lie. It's a lie. That's
a that's a lie. You know it's a lie because
we know we can give them. You and I. You
can I, you and I. We could give them a
list of at least twenty people that at least maybe
not I mean, I mean we have a list of
we have a list of a list at least twenty
five people. Let me answer something real fast. The accent
(43:32):
has been has ever been a problem for you? What
are you talking about it? I don't hear one. I
do not know what you're talking. Do you hear it? Eric? No,
it's Garic as me, Eric as me? Are you from Scotland? No?
I know my accent threw you off a little bit.
That's Russia and I know it. So Eric, do you
(43:52):
think we have an accent. Yes, your birth sound beautiful. Eric,
I might remind you this. Eric, ten minutes ago she
told you that you were going to have a hot night.
I can't retire and thought, think about your next answer.
(44:13):
So Eric, I'll ask you again. She has an accent
crystal clear? Did you love my accent? Does it sound
like I'm an intelligent woman? That's that's what part with girls?
Why don't you take you? No, that's not yeah, it's
not really had to hang up. I read years ago,
(44:36):
years ago it happened to me twice flat out that
the producer creator says, I just don't buy her as
a lawyer from Boston, why because of my accent? So
they buy you us as a mate. I guess what,
I guess. There's a lot of things people in the
but that's a different A lot of ignorance out there
(45:00):
also a lot of ignorance. So we have and we
have to, you know, educate people on how they perceive
Latin American people. We do, but we need the opportunity
to be able to teach them. Anyways. We love you,
I love you too. We were showing incredible things with
broke because in Mexico are crazy. You go like the
(45:25):
eagle that flew over the lake in the afternoon, You're like, Wow,
what a beautiful mood. And it's round bow three. Wrong
with you people, Hell's wrong with you with these titles
you do choose. But apparently the distributor who lied to
us again because the nerve on these guys. We had
a meeting a lions Gate thirty five executives, and we're
with our Mexican distributors and they're like, we're gonna be
(45:48):
in one third of movies in Mexico. This this means
like twenty three hundred screens out of the seven thousand
screens we have in Mexico. Were like, amazing, that's in
and they were they were like in nine hundred or
one thousand, and were like what did we not? Did
we not? What? Wait? So what was the logic? What
did Why did they say? There's no logic, They just
(46:08):
they just do it because they can just not support it.
It's just incredible. But but but why would you like
to lions Gate, Why would you have a meeting with
thirty five lions Get executives saying no, no, We're going
to treat this as the next Mexican Blogbuster film. You're like, well,
thank you very much. It's like, why do you do
they need? I'm a producer. I don't need the ego boost.
I need the numbers, I need the statistics on the
(46:29):
I don't need to feel I've I'm pretty confident on myself.
I don't need people telling me things or lies for
me to feel good about myself. I'm on that department.
I'm good. I just need the truth. Just come through, exactly,
come through what you say? Why why did they do
that to us? People are gonna show up, people are
going to turn out, of course. Ye whenever you see
(47:08):
don't please don't correct Eric, because you English English English
speaking people out there. Exactly how Eric read the title,
That's how you're going to read it. And that's a
movie you should buy the ticket for. You know, we
can't wait, we can't wait. Thank you. This was great.
I love you. Thank you to That was a lot
