Pal is one of the greatest humans on planet Earth.
He represents the great state of Texas that you can say,
I love that um and he beat out thousands of
people to get a chance to be on ABC season
two of Holy Holy, which is executive produced by the
way by Steph Curry, three time NBA champion. Now never

did we think that he would do the impossible, which
is when representing the Mammoth film festival, our guy, Mr
Tanner Beard, the White Buffalo today on hay Pal. How
are you doing TV? As you guys get this number,
what a lot of people know is how many thousands

of people I beat out just to be on Haypal.
Well that the list is long. The list is long,
The list is the list is so long. Tanner, We
thank you so much for being a guest here on
the Haypal podcast. As you know, I know, Dave is
just holy cow, Dave, Holy, holy holy moly Dave. Um. Look,
I know, Tanner, it was a reality show, okay, but

you had a crowd that was going absolutely crazy, going
absolutely nuts. You had cold conditions out there. How real
did it actually feel being out there? Uh? Well, I
mean you guys were out there, so you you know
how it felt. It was uh cold, A whole hell

of a lot of fun. I think the only thing
that would keep your body warm was the adrenaline. Yeah,
and it and it was cold. Jared, if you remember,
we were we were freezing. I do remember. But this
show is about Tanner Beard, not about us. Well, yes,
but he was referring to we knew how cold it was.
I understand it is about it. I understand that, Dave,
Thank you very much. I feel like Dave was there

every day. That's right, that's right. Yeah, he came in
one as he saw fit and I actually had a
fever and suffered through it. But it's also the last
actual real activity I did with human beings prior to
the pandemic. Oh you know what, that is pretty cool.
I told he forgot about that. That That was a tanner.
How how close was that to the everything shutting down? Man?

It was? It was like days, right, I want to
say the last day I filmed was like the seventh
or eighth of March. At that point we were all
talking about, Hey, did you hear about this guy who
ate a bat? I think we're all in trouble now. Uh.
And next thing, you know, you know, by I remember
by Rotman's birthday, it was like March seventeenth. We were

all by the fifteenth of March, I'm pretty sure we
were all in our house for for the next you know,
several months. It was literally aside from upside from Mammoth
Film Festival being like the last big event of one
of the nation, Holy moly, I remember we didn't even
actually get to finish the last week, you know where
(03:38):
where where they applied the jackets on to the winners
and stuff like that. So, um, we were actually animated.
I think you guys remember in the show, uh with
our interaction with Steph Curry was actually animated due to
concerns of Corona. Yeah, and what's crazy, As you mentioned,
March seventh to March seventh is actually the day that
the NBA, the first NBA game was canceled, and that's
really what kicked off. Oh yeah, we should we should

have been weared the eyes of March exactly. That was
that Oklahoma City game. That was the game where Utah
Oklahoma City? And when how do Yeah, yeah, it's very true. So,
um Tanner, at what point does it go from being
fun and being on this fun, silly show to getting
serious and realizing that you have a really good chance
(04:24):
of winning two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. That's a
that's a really good question. Um, you're you know man,
it was such a spectacle the whole thing because you
never got to see the holes before you played them. Um,
you know, you got to go out there and and
have pretty much no idea who you're even playing against.
So all of a sudden, you just kind of pull
(04:45):
you out of a tent out of obscurity and you're like,
all right, guys, and uh, you did get to see
like that for safety reasons. There was a little bit
of a safety example of the whole. But you're out
there just long enough to think you have an idea
of what you're doing, but no idea. H Um. You know, man,
I don't know. It's the whole thing still seems like
it was so surreal and I have to watch it
(05:05):
on TV just to know what actually happened. So Tanner
often often athletes say that, you know, it doesn't it
doesn't really sink in when they win the championship until
a week maybe two weeks you know after. What was
it like for you after you were handed that that
check and you know you want it all like, yeah,
it dont get dunk in right away. Uh. There was
(05:32):
that moment, especially in the the the the final hole,
the finale, where um, you know, we were playing the
hole that you were so excited to like finally you know,
hit that hole in one. Um, I didn't even think
about like the tomb opening. You know, that was the
kind of like the next stage of the whole section
and we had, you know, all of our pals were
right there, and to have that kind of experience, like
(05:55):
it had been cool to do it by myself, but
to like, you know, man sits engage to it everybody.
It was like everybody won at that moment. We were
like lifting up this you know, hilarious putter that you
just won. But just you know, just to know that
a hundred people in her one man leave and you're
sitting there left standing, and to share that with your
(06:16):
friends that were there for you know, freezing cold. I
think it was like four or five in the morning
when we finally wrapped, and it was it didn't sink
in that night, that's for sure, man, it was I
think the next couple of days it was like what
the hell just happened. For the last couple of days,
you know, I was on a mechanical shark. I was
getting my ask blasted in the water by a giant windmill.
(06:37):
You can't even dream those things up, you know what
I mean. So commenced to uh, Steph Curry and ABC
and Rob Wriggle for just making one of the craziest
shows of all time. And I could be more proud
to have won it for Mammoth. Well not only that,
but I remember right afterwards. I mean not only were
you physically exhausted, but you were mentally exhausted too. Like
(06:59):
it was not you know, any time you win a championship,
I don't care what you're playing for. It's difficult. Uh yeah,
I I still haven't really recovered from that windmill, but
it is true and and actually honestly, even like the
other the other players, UM, I remember being the guy
in the tent that was kind of you know, over
there by myself because I didn't want to make a

lot of friends. There were so many cool people in there.
The only thing I could think was is I don't
want to get to know you because I just want
to beat you. You know, I'm out here, uh as
an athlete. As silly as you know this game may
seem on TV, it's actually serious competition, you know what
I mean. Every there's not one person that that showed
up to there that didn't want to take home a
quarter of a million dollars for who or whatever they
(07:41):
were playing for. And I was right up there with them.
So after it was over, I was like, hey, you
in the tent, and I should you know, I wanted,
I wanted to come up and say what's up. But
now that it's over, and then after you win, nobody
wants to talk to you of course, of course, and
speaking of physical exhaustion and physical things that happened on set,
and and you'll enjoy this. I actually took a putter
(08:02):
to the face and uh and sliced my face open
during during one of your victories, Tanner. It's true. I
tried to um gently toss my putter how to be
adoring fans, and I think one of the fans violently
grabbed the putter out of excitement and smashed his face.
(08:24):
And I was that fan, Jared, So that should bring
you some joy, Kyle. Can we remember this moment because
I want to take the still picture that we have
of Dave's face bleeding and use it as the image
to blast out this episode on network television Devo's face
gushing blood and then and then bringing it up. So
(08:44):
only about six million people saw that. Well, yeah, and
but the good news for me is I now own
Disneyland in the American Broadcast Company, So things are looking
good over here. Don't go anywhere, hey, Pam will be

before we get into we want to do a shortened
playoffs thing because we were running out of time, but
we want to know, we want to reverse a little bit.
I got ahead of ourselves on that on that final shot, right, Dave, Like,
we just want we just want to know what it was.
I mean, it's like it's unreal. You know, it's like
the fourth quarter, there's twenty seconds left and all of
you get to take a shot. Basically, if you sink

the shot, you're gonna win a quarter million dollars. Like,
what are what are those nerves? What's going on? And
the pressure of playing for your film festival fun, you know,
the Mammoth Film Festival, which is such a big part
of your life. You know you're about to make something
happen for them or you're about to blow it. So
the thing about the last part was is I think
everybody started off terrible because it was it was put

till somebody makes it. You're just hoping for another chance.
You're watching everybody's balls. But I had three lipouts in
a row, one lipped out, another one lipped out another
one lift out then I proceeded to change. I was like,
if I don't put a different kind of like like
over the top revolution on the ball, like I'm it's
(10:09):
always gonna pop out of the hole. There's just too
much trajectory coming off of the pyramid stuff. You don't
get to stay in golf quite up. Um, the spinning
pier man really put a spin on my belt. But
but no, but I noticed, And there was one put
I took right before, which I think they actually showed
is my first put, as does edit is they're clever.
(10:31):
But I remember putting the ball and then going up
and not even getting close, like one of the worst
parts I made, And I was like, oh my god,
just please give me one more chance. I think I
have this figured out after having three lipouts in a
row hitting the actual hole, and sure enough, Um, the
person who went ahead of me had just missed, and
I was like, thank god, I get another chance. And
(10:51):
I just remember like really concentrating. I think it was
my eleventh or twelfth attempt outside of what you saw
in the editing, and it was just like when it
went in, I understand, and I'm not comparing myself the
Tiger Woods whatsoever. But there was this like unwritten like
my body just took over with itself, and I just
(11:11):
remember like doing like a tiger Woods won the Master's
fist pump because it I felt what it felt like
to have, you know, have that that championship victory. And
I remember just this pumping so hard and yelling and
it was so natural. When I watch it now, I
was like, that's what I looked like when I'm excited.
But you know, it really was that feeling of like
(11:33):
I get it, man. It was one of the coolest,
uh brief moments of my life. I think, awesome. Well,
what's insane is that he asked that. He just said,
like it was really twelve or shut. That means every
single time that someone else's going tenners having to like
breathe deep, like please don't make this, Please don't make
When you see the other balls like get close or
not close, you're like, oh, yeah they did. They missed completely.

There was that one where the ball literally came up
on up the top of it was it was it
was Mallory, I believe. Anyway, the ball like literally was
one spin away from going in the hole, and you're
just like, oh my god, thank God, I get another chance,
and you're excited for them to make it if they
make it, you know, I mean at the end of
the day. But I was really excited that I made it.

I mean from being in the audience. It was absolutely
gut wrenching because we're watching all these puts take place.
And as Tanner said, there were a couple of competitors.
Was two females and two males, including Tanner. They came
pretty close a couple of times where we thought that
it was, you know, we were going to be dealing
with the loss, but he came through it. Yeah, David,

I know that's what Tanner just said. Yeah, but you
weren't there, so you wouldn't know because you're not a
good friend there to make sure you got to hit
in the face with a putter. There you go. Um,
we've made it to the playoffs, which is the end
of the show. Usually we do a one through eight seed,
but because we're trying to make this a special episode

it we're gonna mini golfing. Oh there you go, slow class. Okay,
I don't know what doing, but I was trying. Yeah golf,
We're gonna mini golfer Tanner beer so we have the
Champ should we should have been calling him Champ, but
we will call him Champ the rest of the way.
We've got Champ here through one. Holy Moly season two. Um,

we are going to do a golf playoff with you.
We have got the one seed verse, the four seed,
the one seed came in at Happy Gilmore Verse, the
four seed child Boff's greatest game ever played? Champ, who
is advancing to the finals? Happy Gilmore? The greatest game
ever played? Happy? Oh? Wasn't it very very quick? Very quick?

That was Adam Sandler all the way? All right? Now.
In the other semifinal, surprise, that was even an actual question.
It's happy Okay. Now, in the other semifinal, we have
Kevin Costner and Tim up versus the number three seed,
Bill Murray and Caddyshack. I'm you know what, man, I'm

taking old tin cup. Wow, I need an explanation on that,

Do you think they're actually advancing as far as the
golfer does? Fair enough, Okay, Old old Robin Hood's making

our final fans wanted to see our final and our
mini playoffs. The final, we have no surprise. The number
one seed Adam Sandler is Happy Gilmore versus the number
two seed Kevin Costner's tin Cup Tanner Beard Champ. Who

But I remember putting the ball and then going up
and not even getting close, like one of the worst
parts I made, And I was like, oh my god,

I was like, thank god, I get another chance. And

I just remember like really concentrating. I think it was
my eleventh or twelfth attempt outside of what you saw
in the editing, and it was just like when it
went in, I understand, and I'm not comparing myself the
Tiger Woods whatsoever. But there was this like unwritten like
my body just took over with itself, and I just

remember like doing like a tiger Woods won the Master's
fist pump because it I felt what it felt like
to have, you know, have that that championship victory. And
I remember just this pumping so hard and yelling and
it was so natural. When I watch it now, I
was like, that's what I looked like when I'm excited.
But you know, it really was that feeling of like

I get it, man. It was one of the coolest,
uh brief moments of my life. I think, awesome. Well,
what's insane is that he asked that. He just said,
like it was really twelve or shut. That means every
single time that someone else's going tenners having to like
breathe deep, like please don't make this, Please don't make
When you see the other balls like get close or
not close, you're like, oh, yeah they did. They missed completely.

There was that one where the ball literally came up
on up the top of it was it was it
was Mallory, I believe. Anyway, the ball like literally was
one spin away from going in the hole, and you're
just like, oh my god, thank God, I get another chance,
and you're excited for them to make it if they
make it, you know, I mean at the end of
the day. But I was really excited that I made it.

I mean from being in the audience. It was absolutely
gut wrenching because we're watching all these puts take place.
And as Tanner said, there were a couple of competitors.
Was two females and two males, including Tanner. They came
pretty close a couple of times where we thought that
it was, you know, we were going to be dealing
with the loss, but he came through it. Yeah, David,

I know that's what Tanner just said. Yeah, but you
weren't there, so you wouldn't know because you're not a
good friend there to make sure you got to hit
in the face with a putter. There you go. Um,
we've made it to the playoffs, which is the end
of the show. Usually we do a one through eight seed,

I don't know what doing, but I was trying. Yeah golf,

one seed Adam Sandler is Happy Gilmore versus the number
