Speaker 1 (00:04):
Google's files Go gets a revamp, and now it's even
more useful for freeing up space on your phone and
transferring files even faster. What's going on, i'mrich Demiro. This
is Rich on Tech. Google's files Go is sort of
Android's answer to air drop. The app lets you quickly
transfer files to other nearby Android phones, but the app
can also help you clean up your phone by getting

(00:26):
rid of the old files taking up space. Google just
gave files Go a major upgrade, so it's even easier
to use and everything happens faster. There are three sections
to the app. The first is clean. If you tap here,
you'll get a quick glance at how much space you
have left on your phone. Then there are a bunch
of suggestions ways you can free up space. For instance,

(00:48):
there's a large files section that will show you all
of the big files taking up space on your phone.
With one tap, you can review each of the files
or get rid of all of them at the same time,
that is, if you don't need them. Then there's a
section called unused Apps. This will show you the apps
that you haven't used or opened in the past four weeks.
I find that this isn't as handy because oftentimes I

(01:09):
won't use an app for a while, but I still
want it on my phone. But if you're looking to
save the maximum amount of space, this could definitely help.
If you tap, you can uninstall the apps that you
don't really need or use anymore. There's also a section
for duplicate files, and with one tap you can get
rid of all the pictures on your phone that are
already safely backed up to Google Photos. Now. Another section

(01:30):
of the files go app is called Browse. Here, you
can look through all of the files on your phone,
and there's now a dedicated share section. If you tap here,
you can send and receive files with friends, all without
the need for an Internet connection. Here's how it works.
Files Go creates a temporary direct connection between your phone
and your friend's device, using any connection they can. Most

(01:52):
of the time it's Wi Fi, but if it has
to fall back on another connection, it can do that
as well. All your friend has to do is open
the files go app on their device and hit the
receive button. Now, keep in mind they must be near
your phone for this to work, but it does work
on any Android device, from the latest pixels to the
oldest phones running Android five point zero Lollipop. Google says

(02:13):
in the latest app update they have improved connection times
and now takes an average of just five seconds to
link up nearby phones, and transferring files is faster than ever.
That's because files go can now take advantage of the
fastest way of sending files between devices. This includes five
g Wi Fi Direct, which is four times faster than before.

(02:33):
This means you can send one hundred original quality photos
to your friend's phone in less than five seconds. That's
way faster than email, text or any other method. Also,
keep in mind that none of this uses your data.
Now one more thing to know. Files go does encrypt
your transfers for an added layer of security. Overall, files
Go is a great little app to have installed on

(02:54):
your Android device, but the biggest downside is that it
only works on Android devices. This would be really great.
It would be really great if Google would build a
version of files go for the iPhone, Mac computers, and
Windows computers, so Android users would be able to wirelessly
transfer files fast between all of their devices and all

(03:14):
of their friends' devices. So give it a try. It's
called files Go. It's especially useful for freeing up storage
on your phone and finding those files you forgot about
that are still taking up a lot of space. If
you want a link to files, go just find it
on my website, richon tech dot tv. And if you
like this podcast, do me a favor and rate it
on Apple Podcasts or whatever app you use to listen.

(03:36):
Through that way, more people discover it. Thanks so much
for listening. I'm Richdmiro. I'll talk to you real soon.
