Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume. Brilliant drive by Brice Ya. You see the
elusiveness would be a bright y. I'm not showing to
the right Never hurt doesn't have happy feet. Six fires here. Awareness, understanding, recognition, awareness, understanding, recognition.

(00:43):
That kid is good, that kid is good, That kid
is good, that kid is good. All right, what's up everybody?
Welcome to another edition of the Brice Young Podcast. I'm
Jake Crane from The Jay Boys Show, and you know
we've been doing these a lot. The weeks have been
going by pot up, a lot of wins, a lot
of big moments. But bringing you in a day Bryce
the intro, I gotta add a little bit of flavor

(01:04):
to the intro. Here Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, Welcome
to the conversation. Man, congrats, thank you, thank you. I
really appreciate that definitely. Well, look, man, I know you've
been asked a million times how does it feel? And
tell me about how you were emotionally, But now that
now that you went through it, now that you want
it when you look back, what was the coolest moment

(01:26):
out of all of it really was just sharing that
weekend with the other finalists. Um, it was really really cool.
To have a really fun experience, really needs experience in
New York. I'm with those guys. I've known c J
for a while. UM, so it's definitely cool to hang
out with him, and then um meeting a didn't me
and Kenny, Um, it was really cool. They're all really
cool guys. And then just to kind of go through

(01:49):
that experience, um, all of us together and then run
around New York and do have the you know, the
scheduled events that they have for us. You know, that
was really probably was most me memorable. Now. You know,
I saw you up there standing with c J and
and Aidan and uh, they were kind of going back
and forth about Ohio State Michigan a little bit. But
you know, Bryce, when you were sitting there and they

(02:09):
were about to read the card, they read the card,
it had your name on it. What hits you first?
What was the was it a memory that hits you
first or was it just like weight off your shoulders?
What was that first feeling? I mean it was just joy. Um.
You know, that's something you dream about for your entire life.
So you know, hearing your name called was um, you know,

(02:30):
was just just extremely happy and grateful and I was
really humbly experience. So, um, you know it, it definitely
has some anticipation to it. I'm just you know, being
a part of the show and then you know, you
don't know until they call your name. So um, hearing
it was you know, it was it was a lot
of joy immediately after. Yeah, and you went up there

(02:51):
and gave your speech, did a really good job. And
you know how long how long before the announcement did
you write that speech? Which when you found out you
were going to New York, Like, did you sit down
and like Shakespeare that thing? Yeah, it was when I
found out I was going to New York, I just
worked on a piece by piece. Um, I just kind
of wrote some bullet points to remember, um, you know

(03:13):
people I wanted to think, and then um, yeah that
was really it. And then the rest was kind of um,
it was all just kind of bullet points and then
I kind of knew what I would say after um,
you know, each like a little spot I reminded myself
to hit and then um, the rest was kind of
just just speaking hard. Yeah. I'm sure a lot of
big time people hit you up, But were you surprised

(03:35):
who was the biggest person to hit you and be
like congrats. Did anybody text your phone and you're like,
oh my, you know, oh man, it's it's Shaquille O'Neal
or something. Um, that's a good question. Who was umlu
Yati said, congratulations. That was really nice. I'd say yeah,
I'd say especially out of like, you know, considering it's

(03:56):
not like, uh an athlete or something. So that was
really cool. It was. It was really nice of them. Yeah.
I mean, you know, again, I don't want to sit
here and be like, how does the field when the
hivesm in this, that and the other. I know, you
guys got a big game, you know, coming up against Cincinnati,
but you know now that you've scratched this one off
the list, and I know, you know, personal goals, you
don't like to talk about them, but does it make

(04:17):
you want to get another one? Even more? Like deet
down to have you even thought about that? Yeah, I
haven't even I haven't even thought about it, to be honest. Um,
you know, we're back in I'm back intus loose and
now you know we're back to practicing. So um, you know,
it was great. Everyone of the facility was super super happy. Everyone,
you know, it was saying gratulations, but we all are
you know, we all kind of had our time off,

(04:38):
we all kind of our break, so we're all locked
back in and we're all back you on one goal.
So I mean it was cool, like first time I've
seen everyone, you know, pretty much of it was like
congrats and all that. But after that, you know, it
was kind of this this past weekend, we're kind of
everyone's moved past it, and you know, we're kind of
all locked you on since now right now? What was
it kind of different being out of the routine going

(04:58):
through like the awards dinner tours and you know, some
guys have put on like ten real quick. Man, it
seems like you didn't. You seem like you came out
of it pretty clean. That was it was. It was fun. Yeah,
it was different though. Yeah, you know, you're stuck in
the routine for so long in the season, and you
know you get a little little break with being able
to go to War show er just just time off

(05:19):
from practice, and you know, it's kind of weird. Sometimes
your your days are always normally super filled and have
a little bit of time just doing other stuff with um.
You know, it was refreshing, for sure. It was fun,
but again, you know, it's we're back in, back into
the town sores, back to work. So I heard your
record side and MSG two. How was that it was?

(05:40):
It was really fun. Um, you know, that was something
that always been a dream of mine, you know, being
a basketball fan and um, being able to you know,
being able to be there and and watch the game.
Of course, I was like always a dream. So it's
super cool, isn't it crazy? Having in one NBA game?
You don't realize how big those guys are until you
actually go to one of those games that it was

(06:01):
that the first time you've been like court sided, or
at least at a lower level of an NBA game. Yeah, yeah, definitely,
that was the first time I've been court side. Um yeah,
like at a lower level and all that. So, um, yeah,
those guys are are definitely super something. Yeah, Andrew bog
Get looked like something from Game of Thrones when I
saw him. That was even before Game of Thrones came out.
But you know, what to flipping that switch and not,

(06:24):
you know, I guess that's the best way to put it.
But you know, going from going to handle your business
back to tea town now still got a little bit
before the game. You know, how excited do you kind
of to get back to the routine, to get back
to touch scoots around the guys and stuff like that
and getting ready for you know, what's gonna be the
biggest game in your life. It seems like there's a
new one every week. Yeah. No, I'm super excited. Um,

(06:45):
you know, this is a whole new opportunity for us.
You know, this is a this is a different season. Um,
you know, we're we ventured the postseason and there's a
huge challenge for us upcoming. It's a really good team
and a really big moment. So preparing for that, I
was getting ready and um, you know it's just really
embracing that process. I'm super excited to be back and
getting back to it, and you know, to to kind

(07:07):
of go back to the Heids membrights as well. You know,
I know they do like the pregame video and all
that stuff. You know, how crazy was the senior baby
pictures up there, like they had it, they had it
all set up perfect. Man. I mean you look the
exact same too, bright That's what's crazy, Like your face
succeed exact same. Yeah, it was. It was funny. My
dad told me like right before this show, He's like,

(07:29):
I got some good baby pictures just so you know
that they like asked me to say, and I was like,
it was like right before the show. So I was like,
oh whatever. And then um throughout they kept flashing kept
flashing baby pictures up there. So I was with my
parents and it was it was funny. What was it.
What was the first thing that that your parents said
you after your one and you went and talked to

(07:49):
him if you don't mind, and they're they're just congratulating me. Um,
just super happy for me. You know, it was an
emotional moment for all of us. So, um, you know,
we were just you know, it was a it was
a you know, that's a big accomplishment and vehicle and um,
you know for us to kind of all be able
to to come into fruition with all of us there. Um,

(08:11):
it was definitely a special moment between all of us,
you know, to when that hidesmen too for Alabama at
the quarterback position, Brice, you know that that's something that
in itself, you know, it's a really big deal. What
does that mean to you? You know, you're you guys
are writing history every weekend. But to know that that,
I know, you've got a long career, how do you
a lot more goals to attain and you guys as

(08:31):
a team and everything like that. But to already have
that legacy be written in this way, for this to
be the first chapter, I mean, it's about all you
could ask for, right, you know, it's a Hugh's on.
Um to understand the rich quarterback tradition and legacy that
there's a the University of Alabama And I'm you know,
to accomplish something that you know, to date no one

(08:52):
has is you know, that really means a lot. And
you know when I got to Alabama it was really
big to embrace that challenge and embrace that culture and
live up to that standards. In um, I still have
a long way to go and a lot to contribute
and you know a lot to get a better app
but um, you know, to to help contribute to the legacy,
you know in that way. UM, it definitely feels great,

(09:13):
you know to Bryce kind of looking at it, and
I do want to you know, move on kind of
to the Cincinnati porson portion. But you know, Coach Savan
being there. You know, you looked at all the all
the guys coaches that were there, and and you know,
a guy that you believed in, that believed in you,
that you decided to come all the way across the
country for you know, what was his reacty, you know,
talking to you, What was it like for talking with

(09:35):
him about it, because again, he's had Heisman winners before,
but I know each moment is special. I'm sure that
was a special moment between you guys. Yeah, it was
really special. And you know for someone who's been there before,
seen everything, like you said, he's had pigs winners before
and you know, accomplished everything. For him to still be
so supportive and and and still you know, congratulating me,

(09:57):
and you can tell that you know, it's still meants
the to him. And despite him, you know, being someone
who's already been there, for him to still support me
and and still have positive things to say, you know
that that really meant a lot, knowing how competitive he
is that I'm surprised it was for you know, Davante
when the Heisman and the title too, just tell them
but uh no, man, And again we're getting the reach

(10:17):
out from the former players too as well from alt them.
That had to be a cool moment. You saw the
tribute video with the guys in it, I mean that
had to mean a lot too. Yeah, anderbra Is saying,
you know it was. It was really cool with UM
with all the people reaching out and all the people
and being supportive. And you know that means a lot
because you know, the people around me now are the

(10:37):
people who made something like that possible. Um, all my teammates, UM,
and you know, the whole you know, the whole culture
is what you know allows a word like that to
be one. So to hear people who have been part
of the culture in the past and for them to
reach out and to say congratulation, you know, it just
it just means that much more. Have you moved into
your room at the Heisman House and like gonna hang

(10:58):
out with like Kyler Murray and Aker Mayfield and stuff.
Yet Yeah, I do not know the legistis, but that
that's that's something, UM, hopefully I'll get to the bottom
of after after Oh, you're for sure going to be
in in in the commercial before it's all said and done.
It's gonna be cool to see. But Bryce, to man,
you know, looking ahead, obviously a lot of preparation going

(11:19):
to go into it. Just being in the playoff when
you guys name you know, we're called number one. I
know you guys don't view it as number one, but
just to get in the playoff, to put yourself in
position to have a chance to do what you came
to Alabama to do. I mean, built by Obama is
made for this reason, for for this moment. How excited
are you to to be able to have a chance
to do that. Yeah, it's a great opportunity for US. UM.

(11:41):
You know, getting to the two playoffs with a big
goal of US UM, so for us to be able
to compass that's huge. UM. But you know, also it's
a great opportunity. You know we're playing a really great team, um,
you know, in a really big, really big game obviously
with huge ramification. So UM, you know it's gonna take
everything for us. UM. You was gonna take the best preparation.
It's gonna take everyone to to lock in and and

(12:04):
bring their best every day. So you know, we're we're
focused on finding that that battle and challenging ourselves to
be the most repair we can for when the thirty
first comes. You know, what, what do you think it
says Bryson, And obviously you know a ton about team
dynamics and what it takes, especially in the game of football.
What do you think it says about a Cincinnati team
that was able to navigate through the group of five

(12:24):
get the wins they needed, uh, and and have a
chance to play in this game. I know it's a
matchup that you guys know, uh, you know how deadly
they can be. Yeah, it definitely speaks out toff and
resilient they are. You know, how good to a team
they are. Um. And you know now we you know,
started breaking down the film and watching it. It definitely
shows and it definitely pops on film and it makes
a lot of sense. So, um, again, we know how

(12:47):
good of a team they are. We know the journey
they had, um, you know, we know that is gonna
take everything from us, um, everything or in preparation everything,
and the game is gonna take are all. So I'm
more excited for the opportunity to you know, to embring
that challenge and working day in and day out to
you know, be as prepared as we can be. You know,
Bryans too, as we're winding down here in the Brights
Young Podcast, make sure you go ahead and hit that

(13:08):
subscribe button, turn those notifications on as well. You know
you've been through obviously Bowl prep, Championship prep, then Bowl
PREPA scenes like it all runs together. Do you sometimes
wish that maybe the Bowl game was just a week
after the SEC Championship game, just because you're in that routine.
I know, you get to get healthy, but sometimes like
after not playing for a couple of weeks, you're like,
all right, I'm ready to get back out there and blood.

(13:30):
You know, you definitely get anxious. You know you missed.
You know you missed it, missed the game. You know,
like you said, you normally you have such a weekly
routine and then you get a little bit of a break. Um,
you know, it just it just kind of grows that,
you know, that that love for the game, just being
away from it a little bit. Um So you know
that break the same thing helped it else, you know,

(13:51):
bring that love of the game and give you that anticipation.
So I'm just excited. You know, we're we're back to
working towards that goal. And know what, I know, I'm
bouncing around a little bit here but but a question,
just lightbulb just hit me. And I mean, you talked
a lot of basketball on this show. You know we
won't get into your Lakers right now. I know you're
on a high right now from win the Higsman. I
want to bring you down with the Lake Show. But

(14:13):
when you were courtside and you were watching them close up,
if you had a half, how many points you scored
in the NBA tomorrow tomorrow you played the whole half,
two k style off and injuries off, you're gonna have
how many you drop? Full statline? Just because excuse me, sir,

(14:34):
full stat line. You go ahead, Bryce. First game. I
haven't played in a while, So I give myself probably
like seventeen and eight, two scrappy boards. I probably like
four turnovers. You say seventeen and eight. I just want
to make sure seventeen to eight. Okay, are you just

(14:57):
gonna put this in the first shot? There? Are you
pulling up? Are you? Are you you drive him? Yeah?
I just said that. Whatever the defense such a quarterback.
If if I can you know, if I can run
the you feel me? If I get a few high
big girls, I just fill it out. Maybe a tack
of big see how he plays off the switch. Well,
here's the thing. You just gotta see it go in once.

(15:18):
You just gotta see it going once. Exactly. I'll be
good after that, for sure. I'll be good after that
for sure. Man. Well, you know, Bryce, my last question
would be, you know, back on serious note, like I said,
you got a long way to go, long career ahead
of you. Now that you're looking back and you've won
the Heisman? Is that easy? Is that something that's easy
to kind of put in the rear view mirror. You're

(15:39):
so used to the routine in the process that that
it's just easy to put it in the in the
rear view mirror. Uh. Yeah, honestly, I mean, there's so
much for me to be focused on. There's so much
of my attention. There's you know, there's needed for the
task at hand. So you know, it's not even like
it's it's really a thought in my head or something
that's constantly. Um, you know, it's gonna take everything from me.

(16:00):
Is gonna take everyone everything from the team to to
lock and prepare for this upcoming game. So um, you know,
it's it's easy when you know I'm I'm I'm occupied
and Um, you know, it's gonna take everything for us
to to lock in. So because of that, there's not
even really time to to think about anything else or
think about anything in the past. So, um, you know,

(16:20):
all my efforts have been just doing what's what's what
we have to do to prepare and and giving ourselves
the best chance on the third first, definitely, man, we'll
congratulations again. It's always great chopping it up with you.
You got anything left before we wrap it up? Now,
I'm good. I'm good. I think we hit on everything. Yeah,
but you bet you're pretty tired too. I can I
can definitely believe that. But now, man, great stuff again. Congratulations.

(16:43):
