Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume brilliant drive by Bryce Young. You see the
elusiveness would be a Bryce Young, I'm not showing to
the right time. Never hurting doesn't have happy feet. Sense

(00:29):
fires here, Awareness, understanding, recognition, awareness, understanding, recognition. That kid
is good, that kid is good, That kid is good,
that kid is good. All right, everybody, Welcome to another
episode of the Bryce Young Podcast. Every week me and

(00:52):
QB one at Alabama Bryce Young get together and kind
of talk about the week before, looking ahead and stuff
off the field to give you a great perspective. And
as usual, let me well come in the start of
the show, Mr Bryce Young himself. Bryce, what's up man?
Not too much? How you doing doing good? It's good
to see you again, man, if we've done this so
many times now, Man, it's just it's just another thing, bro.
It's like it's like I know you know you a

(01:13):
lot better. We just really admit exactly exactly. It's it's
clockwork now for sure. It's part of the process. You
see what I did there. Let's let's all enjoy that together.
But now I want to get started just real quick.
On last week, you guys played you know, New Mexico
State handled business what what was what was the thing

(01:34):
you all wanted to get most out of last week?
I know you guys treat every opponent the same, but
what were some of the things you were trying to
get out of the week. I mean, you win fifty
nine three. We're very efficient, you know, you through the
air where about as efficient as I've ever seen. You
look like you were having a lot of fun out there. Yeah,
we're just trying to take a day by day. UM.
That was a big approach and you know, making sure
that that we executed, um, you know, executed and finished

(01:58):
everything on the field. That was definitely pick when of
emphasis first was finishing, Um, you know, coming off of
a week where we you know, we didn't do it
as well as we wanted to. Um, we didn't take anything.
You know, we don't want to take anything for granted.
We don't want to you know, we don't want to
relax at all. We knew that there was a lot
for us to prove so and there there still is
a lot for us to improve on. It a lot
for us to work on, but we had to make
sure that, you know, we went out there executing. Then

(02:20):
there was a big emphasis on on finishing. Um, you know,
in practice, every play, teaching games and all that. So, um,
that was something big that we kind of took into
the game. You know a lot of people talk about
kickoff times, and you know, there's a lot of stuff
that's important. It's different ways to look at it. How
different is that eleven o'clock kick off? That early kickoff?
But are there more challenges for the early kickoff or

(02:41):
is there any difference? I mean once the bullet starts flying. Yeah,
it's it's different. It's it's a little different. Like you
just you you have to make sure you get a
good night sleep the night before, which you know obviously
is important for any game, but they let you, like
we get back to our rooms a little earlier, so
like I had to go, like I want to sleep
like almost like as soon as I got back, um

(03:02):
like to my room, um, the night before because we
had like a six forty five wake up, So like
you gotta be and it's not like you know, you
got six forty five wake up is pregame meal, Yeah,
a little time, like like a little time and then
it's walked through and then you're to the you're to
the um. You know, you're to the bus to head
over to stadium. So like you gotta wake up, I
guess not just like an wake up and go back

(03:23):
to sleep. It's like you're up ready to go at
six five. So you've gotta make sure that you're taking
care of yourself and getting um you're arrested kind of
the day before, the day before that even um, and
just make sure that you're ready. M. Yeah. And I
know you're a humble guy and a lot of guys
played good, but it looked like you were in the
zone Saturday. Man. I was watching you make those The
anticipation on some of your those, uh, was was really

(03:44):
fun to watch. Do you get in zones? You know
what I'm saying, Just like anything in life, you kind
of getting the zone, maybe more satur not mentally, not
from a focused standpoint, but it seems the ball is
going exactly where you wanted to go a lot more
times than not. They talk about it with pictures all
the time. They call it the Halo zone. M. Yeah.
I mean you know, you definitely, you know, you definitely
start to you know there there's times you feel in

(04:06):
rhythm and um, you know, these games start going on,
you get more feel for stuff. But um, it's really
a product of all of us working together because you know,
you don't get and you know, you you know those
you know, those those quote unquote rhythms and like groups
you get into. Um you know that obviously stem from
like success that you're having and all that. Um, there's
there's a lot of variables are playing into that. You know,

(04:27):
so when you pass is completed, you know you have
to have time to protect you know, you have to
you know, you have to have someone running a good route,
making a good catch. Like, It's all a lot that
plays into it. And I feel like it's really us
as an offense just kind of feeding off of each other.
So I get a lot of you know, I get
a lot of confidence and you know, you start to
feel feel good when you know, you know you everyone
around you is playing well and jelous. So um, you know,

(04:48):
whenever I kind of get you know, you start to
feel good, it's not just you know, it's not just
me waking up on the right side of the bed.
Is everyone else around me, Um, you know doing well? So, um,
you know it's all a cohesive Um, Yeah, for sure.
I think sometimes people don't realize that too. I mean
it's literally a team effort. It's it's almost like a
play with different actors and characters in it. I mean,

(05:10):
everybody's got to play their part for it to go well,
from upfront to out wide to you and the backs
back there. But you know, to about eleven am kick off,
per I want to let the audience in a little
bit on Bryce Young. You play the eleven o'clock game,
you're at home, which is always huge with eleven o'clock game.
You get done with it, Bryce, do you go back
and watch football or do you go back and go
to sleep or do you know when y'all guys don't

(05:33):
you just meet for like eight hours? And luckily we
do not meet after games. But like this weekend, Uh,
my family was able to family was able to be
at the game. Family, um be able to visit it
from out of town. Um so um after the game,
yeah definitely. So after the game we went we just

(05:55):
went back to my place suite, order food. Um, and
then we watched some games like yeah, we watched We
just we just chilled and then um yeah and then
um we had we had you know, I was back
in there sitting the next morning, like watching stuff, um,
shooting all that. So that's the next day. So um.
But yeah, after the game, luckily my parents were able

(06:16):
to come over. We're able to chill in. Um, they're
able to watch some food with them and that's always fun.
So um. Yeah, that's definitely one of the purchase of
those those early games for sure. Man. And looking ahead
this week, I mean, you've got an Arkansas team, you know,
Sam Pittman, they have an identity. They play really hard. Uh,
interesting defensive set that they run, and we're not gonna
get into that, but how excited do you guys to

(06:38):
get a you know, an Arkansas team that's found success
again coming into Brian Denny. It should be a really
physical game. I mean it sounds like something pretty physical
to make. Yeah, definitely, definitely. It's a really really good team, UM. Coach,
very well, really talented. Um. They play like you said,
they play really hard. Um. You know, they're very smart players.
You can tell that they all you know, they all
understand the scheme. Um. Again, it's a really good challenge

(07:02):
for us and we understand. Um. You know what's gonna
take again a se See West opponent. Um. You know
they've they've played a lot of really good teams, you know,
being a lot of really good teams, So again it's
it's a really good team. We know we're gonna um,
you know that we know that we're gonna have to
prepare for on Saturday. So um, you know, we're taking
a day by day making sure that we do all
we can during the week to be able to perform

(07:23):
on we want to. But we know it's gonna take
everything and we know it's gonna you know, the level
execution that we have to reach. So um, we're just
you know, we're working on being ready for that on Saturday. Yeah.
And you know something that there was a quote from
Malachi more about your leadership and just how voke you
are with all three sides of vocal. You are with
all three sides of the ball, you know, rooting them on,

(07:44):
encouraging them and I know that comes with the quarterback position,
but you know, being a leader and growing as a leader,
how much have you grown? Bright's being the guy this
year from the start to where you're at now. You know,
going through a lot of ups, one down and a
lot of ups, but you know, at the end of
the day, how have you grown as a leader. I
think that's something that that you can't put a value
on that. Yeah, for sure. For sure, with the experience

(08:07):
that I've been able to get on the field, off
the field, with stuff like that, UM is definitely invaluable. UM.
I feel like I've grown a lot and still have
a lot more going to do. UM. You know, I've
tried to find my you know, really in finding my
style here and you know, finding you know, finding the
stuff that you know that's receiverd will that works. Again,
a lot of it comes with experience. And I still

(08:27):
feel like I'm you know, I'm pushing and improving myself, UM,
just as far as pushing myself to be the best
that I can. And I feel like that's not something
that you can just do and then like you've done
it and that's been accepted. You have to kind of
prove that each and every day and go into facility
each and every day with that mindset. So I'm still
kind of on the hunt too to keep, you know,

(08:49):
establishing that. And I feel I feel like just the
role of leadership is something that UM is president and
something that's earned. So UM, you know, I think it's
something that constantly has to be you know, it has
to be earned too, So um, you know, to this
each and every day. I still feel like I have
to earn that, right. Um, I'm still you know, know
that I have to prove you know, I know that
I have to, um, you know, work hard myself and

(09:11):
kind of set that example and then that kind of
plays into it. But I'm still you know, still still
learning about it. But I definitely feel like there's been
a lot of experience. I've had a lot of growth. Um,
I've got a lot better in that category. Well yeah,
and it seems every game, not only on the field,
but off the field, you're growing. I mean I watched
you as as it's going to halftime. You're getting everybody
a high five in front of the tunnel as they

(09:32):
were going in. And it's the little things and sometimes, right,
I don't think we talked about the little things enough,
you know, whether it's in the media or whatever, that
really goes on, you know, that builds up to those
big things. How important is it? And you're a guy
that's been around it, You've been around sports your whole life,
whether it's basketball, football, whatever. You know what a locker
rooms like? How important is it to have the locker

(09:52):
room not only police themselves, but understand what the standard
is and to be able to rope guys back in
with maybe they're not achieving that standard. It seems to
me like you guys have used that and press that
button in the leadership role, and that's one of the
reasons Yo'll had success and are in a position because
that's all you can ask at the end of the
debt at the end of the day, are in a
position to make a run here at the end? Yeah,

(10:13):
I mean, that's that's that's what we're you know, that's
that's definitely a big part in making sure that you
can have that accountability as a team. Um, you know,
you know the you know obviously you know the coaches
are always gonna always gonna uphold the rules and police
but you know, our goal and really when you know,
you know you're you're doing some the weals when they
don't have to. UM, and we really you know, it's

(10:33):
it's really on us, you know, whether it's a leadership
or you know, for our leadership and you know, our
all the players individually to to police themselves and understand,
we understand what we have to do. And we understand, Um,
you know the rules, you understand the guidelines what to
do or not to do. So, UM, you know it's
on us to to make those right decisions. And like
you said, the police each other. We're not um so

(10:56):
you know, really, I feel like, UM, it's important when
you know you don't have you get we don't have
to get coaches involved, you don't have to talk to
other people. You can police you know, when you can
police that yourselves. I feel like that's that's always been
the best way to kind of handling if you can
keep it internally and understand that. You know, obviously it
increases um, you know, increases your team and gives your

(11:19):
chances and everything. Yeah, and you know, Bryce to coming
down the stretch. I know you guys are learning as
a team as well. But you know, on the field, uh,
it seemed like you know, everything was clicking from the
run game to the past game. How does it feel
when it's all hitting and and the chemistry is great
like that? I mean again, when you play the schedule
that you guys do, and it's brutal playing in the

(11:40):
SEC and being in the SEC West, you know, I
always say there's the SEC the the NFC, the a
f C, and the SEC. But you know, as you
guys are moving forward, you know how important is that
chemistry for you guys to play complimentary football, special teams
offense and defense. Yeah, I know it's everything. You know,
how we how we jail, how we come together, how

(12:00):
we can play with each other, feed off each other. Um,
you know that that's everything, especially we're talking about you know,
this time of year. So um, you know that's something
that you know, we wish. He's an every day to
development to get better at. But that's always an important
part and always plays a major factor and in the
success is how you know that that chemistry, How will
you can rely on each other, how well you can

(12:21):
feed you know, feed off of each other. That that's
always going to play a big role. So you know
that that's something that you know, we understand the severity
of and something that we you know, we encourage and
trying to emphasize each and every day. Yeah, and you
know the important question we've all been waiting for. Did
you teach Jamo that end zone dance? Was that a
product of you? Of you teaching him that? Which one?

(12:42):
Which one? We gotta We gotta clear. I saw him
one time, you know, you know what you call it
with the legs. I can't even remember it, but it
seems to me like he, you know, Jamo to me
has as much sauce as anybody when he scores, you know,
is that just his personality coming out, because I mean
I love it. Yeah, definitely, I can't take if I

(13:03):
can't take Yeah, I can't take credit for Yeah, I
can't even I can't even take care of her that
I can't take credit for anything he does. That's that's
all in the creative minded jambok. But um, but yeah,
that's just you know, that's the energy brings, that's the
that's the juicy brings, the simony brings. And it's crazy
because you know, obviously people see it on Saturday, but
that's when he brings the practice. And um, you know

(13:24):
when you can have someone that can bring that same juice,
same energy on a Tuesday, on a Wednesday, Um, when
it's outside in cold, or when it's you know, when
it's when you're you know, when you know it's just
a scout, you know you're just going to get a scout,
can still bring that energy. Um, you know that's that.
That's something that's been huge for us. So m yeah,
that's just that's just jam for sure. I love it.

(13:45):
I I enjoy seeing it now that kind of let
guys get away with a little bit more. You're seeing
some flavor in college football with it with the end
zone dances. But you know, Bryce too, you know, I
know you're a guy that that keeps up with football
that in the little time you have to be able
to keep up with the NFL. But Matt Jones gets
a dub too. It gets a dub pretty king for
Alabama quarterbacks. And did you were you able to peep

(14:06):
it a little bit at least the highlights? Yeah? Yeah,
I was able to at least see some of the highlights.
Um like, yeah, I saw a few things, but yeah,
I know, it's it's crazy like and for me personally,
it's just, you know, this has been such a as
you said, there's been you know Mac obviously, Mac obviously
in two and Jail for that. Um with that, you know,

(14:27):
with that lineage of quarterbacks, that's not something I take
lightly at all. To see them having success at the
next level like they've been having is super encouraging for me.
But you know, and and also I understand you know
what this you know what it means to play quarterback
here at Alabama. So, um, that's not something I take
lightly at all. And um, you know, I'm still working
day in and day out to you know, to make
sure that I carry that one years on. But um,

(14:49):
you know, seeing stuff like that and seeing three quarterbacks, um,
you know, and the last three quarterbacks is not even
like there was like there's a gap in the last
three quarterbacks. You know, all get wins in a week
in all playing all having success in the next level.
That's stuff that you you just don't see having so
and you know that's just a quarterback we have. You know,
there's there's all types of success from Alabama going on

(15:12):
in the league. If you know, if you look at
all the positions, it's it's crazy how well, um you know,
how well you know people have been doing at the
next level. And that just talks to you know, that
speaks to coach Saban and what he's built in the
program itself, and you know all that goes into it.
So you know, it's it's it's an honor and it's
not something I take lightly at all. Who would who's
the one quarterback that and I know you said Aaron

(15:33):
Rodgers is the one that you know you you kind
of put in that the highest esteem. Is he the
same quarterback that you pick if you could pick just
one to to play against in a a championship game?
Is there a certain guy that you you look at
and you're like, man, you know that would be unbelievable,
Not saying you're, you know, anything negative or nefarious, but
you know that's the guy you'd like to play against,
that that you've grown up playing, that you love watching. Yeah,

(15:55):
I feel like it's. Yeah, it would have to be.
It would have to be. That's has been my favorite
quarter back and leave for however long, So yeah, I'm yeah,
and I'm I'm a big fan of his game. So yeah,
it would have to be. Are you gonna grow where?
Are you gonna grow the hair out? Like Aaron? I mean,
you're gonna Are you gonna let a fly? Are you
you're gonna keep this? I don't know what how's it

(16:18):
gonna go about that one? Right now? Yeah? I don't.
I don't have any right now. We're just we're rocking
how we are right now, So I don't have to
keep I have a plan of changing. I'm still waiting
to see Mac Jones look like Mike Gundy. I just
feel like it's coming. The longer he stays in in
in New England, it's feel like that the locks are
gonna flow. But man, he looks really Yeah, he just

(16:41):
random to come back after offseason, just just letting a ride.
I could see Max sewn on the beach literally with
with some Mike Gundy with some what we call some
some lettuce back there, a little bit a little bit
of lettuces a baseball term there for you, Bryce, But no, man,
I know you guys are excited for this weekend. It's
another big game, you know, like you said Arkansas, and
you guys treat every opponent the same. We mentioned that earlier.

(17:04):
But man, it's been fun talking to you. But it's
been another good week. You got anything you want to
add that, you know, you want to talk about the Lakers.
We talked about the Lakers Rice. We talk about Yeah,
he's gotta we just gotta win. He's gonna win the
other night, you know, that other night the same. It's
earlier in the year, it's early in the year. Let
us Chell, you know, let us come together, Let Russ,

(17:27):
let Russ get get you know, he's getting the kinks out.
You know, Lebron and this is Lebron's on the bench.
He's you know, he's being he's being safe. I respect it.
A d is still producing, so you know that's a positive.
You shooting a high clip. We play the Bullets and
we played the bullis night. I'm pretty sure play the
Bulls night. I don't know if you know, but I

(17:47):
think we pay. I mean they only they only played
eight games in the NBA, so I'm sure they're probably Yeah,
in fact, yeah, we played. We play the Bulls to night.
I would be a good test. You know, if we win,
we're the greatest team ever. If we lose, it's okay.
We're supposed to win. So there's really you know, it
is because of lebrons Son. You're starting to get too
good at this man, You're really you're really start you know,

(18:08):
there's there's no way I can spend that towards you know,
negative for the Lakers. But now, man, it's it's been fun.
It's always fun. Bryce. Appreciate you hopping on, brother, and
