us live on the Peacock Act. Final hour on this Tuesday,
it'll be busy. TJ. Watt of the Steelers will stop
by and Jared Goff of the Lions. Poll question from
our two had to do with the Detroit Lions. We'll
recap the results and we'll settle on a poll question
for hour three. Diamondbacks Phillies Game two later on today.

(00:46):
Last night, Rangers go up two oh when the Astros
Phillies beat the Diamondbacks as Bryce Harper celebrates his birthday
with a home run. It was the Cowboys over the Chargers.
Cowboys now four and two, Chargers drop three. Here is
Justin Herbert after the game talking about that Dallas defense, how.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Challenging was dealing with the pressure tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah, they've got a really good front seven, you know,
I thought our offensive line battle and they did a
great job up front.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Unfortunately we fell short and I got to make more
places as a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
You know, I thought the.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Defense came up with some big stops today, held them
when we needed them to. So it's on us as
an offense.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
You know, the key. And we were just talking to
Mike Golik, who did the game for Westwood one last hour,
the pressure that they put on Justin Herbert. So if
you're going to pressure him eighteen times, you don't always
have to get to the quarterback. But when you do
get to the quarterback or pressure him, let him know
you're in the area code there. That's what stays with
a quarterback. I would think there was constant pressure. Micah

(01:47):
Parsons didn't get his sack until the fourth quarter. But
I think the respect that Dallas's defense got from, you know,
the Chargers offensive line was they're coming all night long.
And give the Cowboys defense credit because they made the plays.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yeah, pulling, But didn't Herbert's answer sound like an AI
answer a quarterback, like what he would have to say
because he set his office line did a good job
in battle. They didn't do a good job in battle.
They got owned.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Well, you know when you have to say it. Yes,
you get to those press conferences, you're just trying to
get out like mad libs. Yeah, you go in and
you just want to get out without saying anything. Stupid segue.
Jared Goff joining us now in the Detroit Lions quarterback.
All is well with you. You don't have to make up
answers when you go to a press conference. So did

(02:34):
you watch the game last night?

Speaker 5 (02:38):
You know, I watched the first half. Those games come
on so late, you know when you're on the East Coast. Now,
WA's the first half. I usually go to better after that.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
What'd you think.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
A tough game? Yeah, they're both good teams. Yeah, it
was tough. I think you know the world of Justin
and Dak and think they looked quite well.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
But do you watch the quarterback when he's going back
to pass or do you watch the defensive line or
the rush going after the quarterback?

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Good question on typically watching the quarterbacks just to see
what they do, and yeah, see how they're playing.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
But they both look great. I think they're both great players.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
By the way, I'm a full intro here. Jared Goff
the former number one overall pick by the Rams and
the Lions winning against the Buccaneers. The Detroit fans are,
they're traveling there. It was great to see that. Man.
You were taking a victory lap there, saying a load
to those fans after the game. How great is it
to have fans on the road for a change.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
Yeah, it's really cool, man, It's it's really a lot
of fun. And they've done that.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
Now.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
We've had, you know, three road games and all three
of them night games, and you know, kind of after
those games, they stuck around, we've won on them. It's
been really fun to just give them some love and
let them know we appreciate them. And yeah, it's a
completely different environment when you have them there, and it
changes everything.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
The MVP campaign starts right now for you, all right,
are you okay with that?

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Sure?

Speaker 5 (04:04):
Yeah, I won't be doing much of it, but you
can take care of.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
That for me then, Okay. Last sixteen games lines are
thirteen and three. Jared Goff has completed almost sixty seven
percent of his passes. He's thrown for twenty eight touchdowns.
Just for interceptions, He's thrown for forty one hundred yards.
So this is the last sixteen games, going thirteen and three,
and through six games this season, he is one of
two quarterbacks ranked in the top five for passing yards,

(04:31):
completion percentage, touchdowns, passer rating. The other one is to
a Tongue of Iiloa, who, according to DraftKings, is the
favorite for the MVP, followed by Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen,
Jalen Hurts, Brock Purty. Why aren't you in the top five, man?

Speaker 5 (04:48):
That's not for me to decide. I'm just going to
try to keep playing well. I think the thing you
see in Colin for all those guys you named, is
you know we're all on pretty good teams right now,
and that's kind of that attention starts to happen. And
for us, you know, our defenses playing as well as
they play, our lines playing well, and I'm sitting back
there and make some throws. It's been fun we've been
We've been playing well and winning some games, and one

(05:10):
of some tough ones on the road, like I mentioned,
but long season still to go and a lot of
work to do.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Lines will be at the Ravens coming up on Sunday.
Did you ever get a chance to meet Joe Montana.
I think you chose number sixteen because of because of Joe. Yeah,
you know.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Actually I met him for the first time, like a
couple of years ago at the airport, just randomly ran
into him.

Speaker 6 (05:34):
And I'm like, I gotta go stay hide to him.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
You know.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
He was sitting by himself and I was as well.
I was by myself and I even say hide to
him and talk to him briefly for five minutes, and yeah,
that was that was why I was too young to
watch him play growing up in the Bay Area. But
when it was time to pick Jersey numbers, I was,
you know, eight years old, and my Dad's like, just
do sixteen. That's Joe Montana and I'm like all right,
you know, and became a huge John Montana fan after that.
But yeah, a huge fan of his. And yeah, the

(05:57):
origin is from him wearing it obviously for the nine.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
So what you talked to Joe Montana about at the airport,
it was.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
It was pretty brief. It was it was where you're going,
what you up to, It was during the off season,
it was it was really brief, just hide by and yeah,
it was it was really cool to me.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Did you get a picture?

Speaker 5 (06:15):
No, I did not ask for a picture. No, maybe
maybe one day.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah, Joe's the nicest guy in the world. Just you know,
get a picture with you.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Yeah, he is.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
He was awesome and he was It was super cool
to me.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
What's the story about your coach, Dan Campbell, you're going
to tell your kids?

Speaker 5 (06:34):
Oh? Man, uh geez. I don't know if I can
pick one. I mean, he's done a lot of, you know,
funny stuff. I think the five dollar bill when he
was actually up there, that was pretty That was pretty
creative by him. I don't know if he had.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Explained that one though to the audience, if they're not
aware of that.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
So after the game, he pulled out a five dollar
bill and I was kind of, you know, a little
befuddled by what he was saying. And then you know,
he goes, that's five I'm like, oh, that's for five win.

Speaker 6 (07:00):
Okay, got it.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
But I don't know if he had it in his
pocket the whole game, if he had someone handed to
him after we won.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
Man, When he does fun stuff like that, he keeps
it really fun and at the same time is able
to coach as hard. So it's a good combo and
he's a lot of fun to play for.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Does he have is it tough love with him?

Speaker 6 (07:19):
Certainly? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Yeah, I think he's He's as honest as a coach
I've ever been around. He will he will shoot you
straight always and let you know when he's when he
loves what you're doing, lets you know when he thinks
he can get more from you. So he's been He's
been great to me and in that way and has
done it for everybody.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
What happened though? Quarterbacks seem to go through this, there's
that welcome to the NFL moment and then all of
a sudden you see a quarterback either he makes the
next step or he doesn't, and it decides, you know,
what his future is. So what was there something that
clicked for you at a certain point where you go, okay,
game slowed down, or I understand it better or whatever,
I process things better. What what happens with quarterbacks?

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Yeah? I think it typically happens in that second year,
you know, your rookie year. You're just trying to keep
your head above water and find ways to you know,
throw completions and just you know, not get hurt and
just stay on the field, and you know, just trying
to figure things out. I think the second year for
me too, is when it kind of just light bulb
goes off in some ways and you're able to understand
coverage a.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Little bit more.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
You're able to understand where the holes are in the
defense and able to make a little bit more higher
percentage decisions based on.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
What you know.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
And that typically happens over that first offseason, and for
me it was no different.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
What was your welcome to the NFL moment?

Speaker 5 (08:34):
You know, I've I've got a couple you know, probably.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Shoot.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
I mean Sherman, Richard Sherman hit me along the sideline
that Thursday night game my rookie year, took me out
of the game there. I got hit my first start
to play the Dolphins, and that was when they had Donkin,
Sue and Cameron Wake and they kind of both like
sandwiched me on one of my first sacks I ever took. Yeah,
there's a couple, man, I shoot. My first ever game,

(09:02):
the preseason game was Dallas at home, first game back
in LA football game.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
It was a big deal.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
I was the first pick. I'm running out there after
you know, after Keenum does the first few drives, and
I'm running out there. I think my first third down,
you know, got hit with a blitz I didn't even
see coming and threw a pick and you know, just
separated my left shoulder and it was it was a mess.
But I'm much past that now and don't like to
think of those times. Really.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Well, you see these young quarterbacks and they still think,
you know, in college, I can hold onto the ball
or I can make a play out of this. And
I remember, you know, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady telling me, hey,
it's not there, it's not there, it's not going to
be there. Throw it away. How you have to kind
of fight that urge of what maybe you did when
you were in college as opposed to what you should

(09:47):
be doing in the NFL. I'm going to guess sure.

Speaker 5 (09:51):
Yeah, I think that's a huge part of it is
no when the when the plays is not there. There's
so much preparation done during the week in an NFL
week that if if you're preps wrong and the play
is not there, typically it's not there for a reason
and it's time to move on or get rid of
it and not take the hit. And yeah, that's something
you learn as you get older, and you know, unfortunately
in today's day and age, these young guys don't get

(10:12):
much much patience from from from the media, from the fans,
and it's unfortunate. But it takes time, due, it takes time,
and it takes a lot of a lot of hours
and reps. And sure, I mean, I shoot, I'm only
in your eight and I hope I can be looking
back at right now and saying that I've learned a
bunch more five years from now. So you're always learning,
always trying to get better.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Well, good luck against the Ravens. Great to talk to
you again, and we'll keep that campaign going for MVP.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
All right, Dan, I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Thank you guys.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
That's Jared Goff lines quarterback. Thanks for going well. I
mean that those are numbers that are pretty impressive over
the last sixteen games dating back to last year. Yeston.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
I'm happy for him, yeah, because he he was counted
out when he got sent to the lines. It was like,
all right, well they'll do this year and then draft
a quarterback next year or something. I don't know that
people really took him all that seriously or that move
all that.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Series, well that was remember the bridge quarterback, right, Was
he the first bridge quarterback? He was definitely o bridge
quarterback like labeled maybe Tyrod Taylor, Was he Jacoby Brissette?
Were they bridge quarterbacks?

Speaker 8 (11:21):
Yes, Mark, even before that, Kurt Warner with the Giants. Yeah,
but he was a backup. But I thought he started
well Eli's first year. Yeah, so maybe he was a
bridge quarterback. John Kittener, John kitting a bridge quarterback.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Yeah, but Golf it was he's going to the Lions
like they're sending him to purgatory and then they're going
to have him out there and then they're going to
use a high draft pick and draft to a tongue
bai looa, because that's what I was told they were
going to. They were looking at Tua, drafting Tua, and
I thought, okay, then maybe Jared Goff is going to
be a backup quarterback. But these numbers, whether you believe

(12:03):
he belongs in the conversation. If the Lions are that
good and he's playing that well, then you know, I
would say by proxy that he should be an MVP candidate.
Now you might say, is he a top five candidate?
All right, that's up for discussion. But the Lions are
a formidable team and that's a really good offense.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Yes, I'm really curious to see what the rest of
his career turns out to be. He's got three Pro Bowls,
he went to a Super Bowl as a young guy.
You know, his stats are fantastic. It's christ He's got
twenty one hundred and sixty six touchdowns and seventy three
picks and they're getting better. He doesn't throw interceptions anymore.
He's well above five hundred as a starter.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
And we're gonna jinks him. Oh, I know, we are
going to jinx him against Baltimore.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
But if he somehow pulls out a Super Bowl title
for the Detroit Lions, one of those can get you
in the Hall of Fame someday if you have really
good numbers.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Yeah, he'd need better numbers.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
Yeah, but he's got eight more years to do so
imagine if he had one with Detroit and you compared
him to Bill Rivers. I know we're a ways from that,
but they are threatening.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Or Matt Ryan. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
One wo Detroit holds a lot of weight. It's like
when Kurt Warner almost got a second title and he
was gonna do it with Arizona. Oh, Yeah, that would
have been slide right into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Yeah, when you think about it, he could have had
three Super Bowls because they lost to the Patriots and
then they lost to the Steelers. He got to three
super Bowls there, and I remember he joined us and
he wanted to know what he needed to do to
get in the Hall of Fame, and I said, take
Arizona to the super Bowl. And I saw him after

(13:40):
the game, and you know, it's crazy, everything's going on,
and I wanted to find him to say, you know
what you did it? You got Arizona to the Super Bowl.
And he was there with Brenda, his wife and family,
and you know, it was just one of those moments
where I just wanted to acknowledge what I say all
as you know, somebody covering the sport. And he's always

(14:04):
been professional, and you know he helped take Arizona to
the Super Bowl. Was that Ken wizen Hunt who was
the head coach here and Larry Fitzgerald has that touchdown
and you're thinking Arizona is going to win the Super Bowl.
We won't be thinking about that anytime soon. James Harrison's
interception drop back and coverage you do that. You know,

(14:26):
you beat the clock. All you do is get him
to go out of bounds or down anything, and he
goes into the end zone. Is there? Okay, how many plays?
Where does James Harrison's interception return stand among the greatest? Now,
Malcolm Butler's got the greatest super Bowl play of all time?

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Super Bowl importance?

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Great? Yeah, correct, Yeah, he won the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
It was he turned a loss in a win.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Is there what other play is similar to that? With importance?

Speaker 4 (14:54):
James Harrison turned the tid end. If you watch that play,
Larry Fitzgerald's going to catch him and he's running on
the silence, he out of bounds and like a staffer
blocks him accidentally. That Mike Jones tackle for the Tennessee Titans.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
I didn't think that was that close. I know, it's like,
oh my god, one yard away. Dyson was one yard away.
Santonio Holmes that catch corner of the end zone. Steelers
over that David Tyree. David Tyree's catch. But David Tyree
doesn't score a touchdown. He just has an incredible catch.

(15:30):
Plexico had the touchdown there. Yeah, I'm sure there's a
few other.

Speaker 8 (15:37):
Yeah, mar that Mike Jones plays a little harder to
you think. I think, is it okay? Because I think
on the play is it why check? Yeah, he's going
one way and it's supposed to fool Mike Jones and
he turns. I'm almost certain.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Okay, all right, maybe I should look that the you know,
give it a deep dive again.

Speaker 8 (15:57):
Yeah, I'm gonna go back to NFL films.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
All right, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Yeah, Paul, that's Antonio Holmes. Catch is properly rated.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
That's really rated.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
He cannot millimeters millimeters from being out of bound.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
That's why Ben deserved to be MVP. That two minute drive.
I've told this story, but it's worth telling again. So
I'm on the sidelines and I'm going to hand out
the Super Bowl Trophy and Steve Young is on the sidelines,
and I remember Ben comes out to start the two
minute drive, and Steve Young is doing play by play

(16:32):
of what he's thinking as a quarterback and what Ben
is doing. And it was one of the great football memories,
one of the great memories I've had in my career.
Here's a Hall of Famer telling me what is happening,
what should happen, what could happen, and how Ben is
responding to that and then he throws that pass where
nobody else can get it, but Holmes incredible. It is

(16:57):
a great catch. But that ball where it is placed,
quarterbacks usually win the MVP. And I thought Ben, and
when Ben was on the podium, I think Ben thought
he was going to get the MVP. Yes, he I
mean he could have placed the ball a little better, really,
and then the catch wouldn't have been as spectacular. Then
he would have won the MVP. But instead he threw
it a little it was it was slightly higher than

(17:20):
it should have been, so he made it a tougher catch.
That helped Santonio Holmes.

Speaker 7 (17:24):
Antonio, if Ben threw the ball better, Santonio Holmes wouldn't
have gotten Yes, yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
If you watch a player. I watched it on YouTube again.
There's three Arizona Cardinals right in front of Holmes. Holmes
is five eleven and he has to keep his feet locked,
grab it and pull it down and just fall like
a tree. So he does not, you know, let it go.
It's incredible.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
It really is an amazing, amazing catch. Yes, uh, yes, smart.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
And back to Jered Golf, he needs a couple of
MVPs and a super Bowl to get real, I'm he's.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Not a Hall of Famer. Well no, yeah, but if
he went to the super Bowl with the Lions and
let's say super Bowl MVP, all right, because a lot
of times with the number one pick, you know, we're
trying to figure out were you a bust or were
you successful? Like Jared Goff has been a successful number
one overall pick, although it didn't feel that way when

(18:16):
you know the Rams kicked him to the curb. Yeah,
seen a.

Speaker 7 (18:18):
Lot of times we look at guys like Jared Goff
and it's like, well, yeah, they got to the Super
Bowl in spite of him. Yes, it's not easy to
do that, to to get there and win as a
whole other level, but just to get there says something,
and I think we underappreciate sometimes the losing quarterback.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Well we started the Jared Golf campaign for MVP here,
so now he's getting You can't say, hey, nobody gave
us any credit here. We're given credit where credit is due.
Let's take a break, TJ. What will join us coming
up next? Back after this? Oh favorite part of football Sunday,
Big game or tailgating or how about King Sawaiian Slider Sunday,

(18:58):
the original Hawaiian sweet rolls, slide buns, pretzel slider buns, soft, fluffy, irresistible.
Just like Fritzy, Kings Hawaiian rolls are so versatile, not
like Fritzy. You can create any kind of slider for
your football get together and Fritzy can pick up these
slider buns with his grubby fingers and nobody cares. Okay.
Yeah for a recipe inspiration, pulled chicken sliders, djon mustard

(19:23):
top with pickles, cole slung, favorite barbecue rub. How about
some barbecue songs all prepared on Kings Hawaiian slighter buns,
the sweet slider buns. Football Sundays they're about sharing great
food and fun with friends and family, and King Sawaan
Slider Sunday the only way to Sunday. Go to the
bakery or deli section of your local store and pick

(19:43):
up those sweet, fluffy, irresistible Kings Hawaiian rolls and enjoy.

(20:04):
versus Michigan State Saturday on NBC and Peacock Saturday Night.
I got the NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds
according to DraftKings. Micah Parsons is your favorite, then it's
TJ Watt, Miles Garrett, Aiden Hutchinson, and Fred Warner. As
we make the segue to TJ Watt, who's already won
that award, he has eight sacks on the season, eighty

(20:26):
five and a half sacks in his career, just turned
twenty nine. I believe last week good have TJ back
on the show. If I said you could have one
sack or eight hurries in a game, what would you.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Tell I'll take the sack.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Yeah, but that doesn't mean you had a good game.
If you have one sack but eight hurries, doesn't that
mean that you've probably had a better all around game.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, but it depends that the sack fumble is the
sack demoralizing? You know, it all depends. But at the
end of the day, all trying to get.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
SEZs okay, you took your helmet off and got fined yep.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Not smart.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Okay, but you're not taunting like you're just celebrating. But
do you even get a chance to say anything or
is it just hey, you got fined. They're gonna take
it out of your paycheck.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
No, we're going to try to appeal it. And I
think that's just kind of like you said, it wasn't.
I wasn't trying to be malicious. I wasn't taunting at someone.
I was just it was fourth down, it was the
end of the game. Took my helmet off. I understand
it probably wasn't a whole lot of safety risk because
the game was technically over at that point. But uh,
I mean, I just have to be better, I guess.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Okay, but do you have your loophole here? Who's arguing
your case?

Speaker 2 (21:43):
It's being in my agency. We had Olivia lawyers and
how they have to go through a whole appeal process.
Section five, Article four, line seven, you know all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Have you been fined before?

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Yes, I have. I've been fined a couple of times.
It's my seventh year. I've had a good amount of
I like to punch the football, so I've had a
couple of those. I actually got one again this past
week for punch into the football and then a couple
of rough in the passes. So I've been through the
process a few times.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Do they take it out of your paycheck or do
you have to write a check to the NFL home own.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
No, they take it out, which makes it a little
bit better because then you don't have to actually write
the check right right in front of you.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
How would you assess this team so far and being
in this division? I mean, it's a winnable division, But
where do you guys stand sort of in the hierarchy
with VFC North.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Yeah, it's a tough division. It's always been a tough
division since I've been here. I think we're we're happy
to be three and two and we know we could
be better, and we know that we haven't played nearly
close to our best football yet and it's still so
early in the season. But the buy came at a
good time. I feel like we're going to get some
guys back and we need to continue to string some
wins back to back is crucial here. As my Timan always.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Says, why is the Ravens matchup? I mean it feels
like that's the best rivalry in football right now.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
It's just always so physical. When Coach t talks about
that matchup, he always says, like there's been rules made
around this game when it comes to targeting, and guys
just big hits over the mettle, blinds by blocks. It's
just always been so physical, and even though the game
has changed dramatically over the last ten or twenty years,
We've tried and we I feel like we've done a

(23:27):
good job in that rivalry of keeping an a clean
but also just continue to keep that aggression. And there
is there is a form of hatred between Baltimore and Pittsburgh,
and that's okay. I'm fine with it.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Explain to me the punching of the football, because I've
seen where Max Crosby punches the quarterback's arm. Is the
NFL allowing you to punch them as long as you
hit the ball.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Or we yes, as I mean, it's hard because the
ball is always close to the face mask. So it's like,
I'm never We're never trying to punch the actual face
mask is a that would hurt our hand and b
we know it's a penalty, but we're always trying to
punch at the football. But what people don't realize, or
some people don't realize, is that when a quarterback has
the ball or a running back, the moment from here

(24:15):
to here or here to here is a split second.
So when I'm winding up to go at the football,
it could be gone by the time that I moved,
So it's hard to anticipate exactly where the football is
going to be. And I think that's where you get
those those spots where you're hitting a guy where you're
not intentionally trying to.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
You ever apologize to a player you hit?

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Oh? Yeah, for sure. I mean there's some times where
your motion gets the best and after play you kind
of pop the guy in the chin. Strap. Sorry, we
calm down here for a second. My bad. We still
have to go a full game. I don't want to
get a cheap shot back. By way.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Has anybody apologized to you after hitting you?

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Oh? For sure. I think at the end of the day,
I mean, we never want to We never want to
be malicious. I mean, never want to be disrespectful on
the football field. I think both sides do a good
job offense defensive. If someone does something that they didn't
intend to do or that was a little dirty. They're
most likely going to apologize, and if they don't, that's
or the problems ensue.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Why isn't roughing the pancer reviewable?

Speaker 2 (25:17):
I don't know. It's a good question. It's hard. It's
we do everything we possibly can. And I was talking
to the refs the other week that you know, when
you go to tackle the quarterback, I'm rotating as hard
as I can and I'm taking the hit because the
quarterback's landing on top of me. But it's just the
life that we live and we have to adapt as
much as possible because those penalties are massive, game changing

(25:41):
penalties and they're fifteen yards in the first down.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yeah, but they should review them if we review basically
every play, TJ. When you think about it, there's time
to review because that's what the broadcasters do. That if
you have the New York office look at these plays
and then say, hey, you know what, that hit wasn't
too the face or you know, as you said, these
are game changing, you know type of plays here, and

(26:04):
it feels like I know they're trying to protect the quarterback,
but you know, you got to help out the defense
just a little bit here. And no rules or to
benefit the defense. When's the last time you had a
role that benefited the defense.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Offensive holding helps me from time to time, which is nice,
but yeah, it's it's one of those things that's obviously
way about my pay grade. We just try to adapt
to the rules that are in place and try to
play as clean and as smart as possible.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Okay, why are they letting the tackles line up a
little bit further back off the line against you guys?

Speaker 2 (26:36):
That's that's something we're tackling to and the reps are
getting better at it. The thing is that if a
tackle lines up a little deeper, they're going to be
more lenient on letting us take that credit card alignment
are getting as close to the line of scrimmage as possible,
so it's kind of an in game thing. Hopefully, if
he's lining up a little deeper, they're not getting him
that two clicks of the remote head start that whatever

(26:57):
they call it.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
You feel like it's an advantage because the offensive linemen
haven't kept up athletically with the edge rushers, so they
almost they're yes, I am absolutely. Here's another thing that
they're calling offensive linemen downfield, like these bubble screens it
feels like these linemen get out there, but they are
calling that. It feels like a little bit more. It

(27:19):
seems like a point of emphasis here.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, I would like to think
they're trying to call everything, and I understand there's a
whole lot going on, and I don't know if you
have enough bodies to really see everything. I mean, like
we always say you could call a holding on every
single play. It's just a matter of what they're able
to see and what's not going to slow the game down.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
But what if I said offensive linemen have to wear
mittens were that they can't hold you.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
It would be awesome. I think you'd see a lot
more pass across the league.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
Now that JJ is retired, Is he getting a little dowe?

Speaker 2 (27:57):
No he is not.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
He hadn't let himself O.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
No. No, that's that's the thing. Is like he'll send
a meal of like a big cheap meal of pancakes
and waffles and everything, and then later in the day
is like all I can eat is fruit in like
grilled chicken breasts, and like why, I mean, there's no
point you don't have a game tomorrow. I just indulge
man enjoy it for a couple of months, but he
likes staying in shape.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Did you ask him to join the Steelers?

Speaker 2 (28:22):
No, I mean that's not that's not one of those things.
That's not It's way above my pay grade. I don't
have any stay and who we bring in, but.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
You could, you could. Did you ask him if he
wanted I didn't.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
I didn't drop it into suggestion box. No. I never
blatantly asked Jage if he wanted to come and play.
I think his career took its course, and my career
is on my course. And they never were able to meet.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
His son looks like he's six years old.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
He's massive.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
I know.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
He's massive.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
I would be. Somebody's gonna get him a scholarship here soon.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
I know he Uh. They're coming out here in a
couple of weeks, and I hope he's saving his first
steps when he comes out here. It's funny. J always
sends videos of him, like push and suitcases and problem pushes,
and he's in training already.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
All right, let's play the max bench press for TJ.
So one rep? Yeah, hold on now, all right, so
max bench press one rep best ever ever ever, I'm
not saying now I'm saying ever for TJ. Todd, I'm
gonna start with you. Four thirty seatan four fifteen, all right, Marvin.

Speaker 8 (29:39):
One rep five five.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
N This is TJ here, not JJ.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Yeah, Paulie, I'm gonna go one rep for sixty five.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
I'm gonna go one rep. Three eighty five.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
It was four twenty five at one point. Okay, we
don't touch We don't touch that anymore. It's no point
in risking it these days.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Who's the strongest guy you've ever been around?

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Oh? James Harrison? I think I mean, oh, guys throwing
weights around like crazy.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
He still is, He still is.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
It's incredible. The guy doesn't age. It seems like he.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Could probably use him for a couple of plays. Man,
he is. He is one big dude. Hey, congratulations. Where
is the Defensive Player of the Year trophy back.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Home in Wisconsin? Yeah? Keep it back home.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
So if I walk into your place in Pittsburgh, do
I have any idea you play football?

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Uh? No, And unless you go into office, I don't
like to have stuff all over the house.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
Yeah, but you could have like a statue out front
or something like that. That would be JJ has a
statue out front of his place.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Yes he did, he'd here, that would not be acceptable.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Hey, great to talk to you. Congrats, thanks for joining.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Us, Thank you very much. See you guys.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
It's TJ. Watt. Next game will be at the Rams
week six by, and then they got the Rams coming up.
Just turned twenty nine years of age. All right. So
if you do the math here, eighty five and a
half sacks, twenty five forced fumbels, I'd say he plays
five more years. He could have fifty more sacks. Sure ya,

(31:28):
Sech puts him, you know, one thirty five all time checking, Yeah,
that'd be one thirty five plus. You play for a
franchise like the Steelers. Defensive player of the year, second
best odds right now. Yeah, see I love that.

Speaker 7 (31:49):
He's just like, oh James Harrison even close. Well, you
see James Harrison an all time badass.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Oh my god, top five yeah, NFL history, Yeah, villain, Yes, Paul,
this is surreal.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
I forgot these numbers. Bruce Smith from the Bills two
hundred career sacks. Reggie Wright had one hundred and ninety
eight career sacks, and he missed two seasons to play
for the USFL, you know, to attack another fifteen. Oh,
holy cow, Kevin Green has won sixty he played for
the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, Bruce Smith might be as underrated as you could
be at that position. You know, there were other star,
other personalities on that Buffalo team, but what Bruce did
did it as well, if not better than anybody, at
least in modern football, because I still maintain those players

(32:39):
who played in the sixties and you know, seventies when
they weren't even counting sacks, like Deacon Jones. To me,
he scared me, and I was just watching the TV.
It was like, oh my god, somebody's gonna get hurt. Yes, Punk.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
Just to show how great by Bruce Smith was. He
was first Team All Pro eleven years apart. That means
a level of greatness eleven years apart. Reggie White was
Defensive Player of the Year thirteen years apart in eighty
six and then in ninety eight. Yeah, that's nuts.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
When he shocked everybody and he went to the Packers.
I think he said God told him to go to
the Packers. Yeah, all right, let me take a break.

Marvin Oh YEAHO leads the NFL in quarterback pressures this season,
not sex pressures.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
I'm gonna say, Miles.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Garrett, Miles Scatt is not correct.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Okay, anybody else want to guess quarterback pressures?

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Aiden Hutchinson, Aiden Hutchinson is correct. Whoa thirty five QB pressures.
Thank you, Michah Parson's twenty nine, Nick Bosa twenty seven,
Max Crosby twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (35:52):

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Oh yeah, yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
What's the football tonay?

Speaker 4 (36:00):
It is an unbelievable night of directional football. Dan Middle
Tennessee State at Liberty Western Kentucky at Jacksonville State, which
is not a state, Southern miss at Southern Alabama Battle
of the South. And then I'll go some FCS one
double A for you. North Carolina Central at Morgan State,

Just couple for you. Nineteen sixty two, the New York
Yankees won their twentieth World Series when they beat the
San Francisco Giants. That's twenty and like what seventy years
or something like that. They have twenty seven nineteen sixty
eight Bob Beaman long jump twenty nine and two and
one half inches in the Olympic Games in Mexico, and
just a fun fun to say the name two thousand
Patrick Wah of the Avalanche born in forty eight career

(37:25):
wins as a goalie, time record.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
Patrick, I got problems accurate? Uh IRV in Long Island?

Speaker 5 (37:39):
IRV?

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Is it in Long Island? Or on Long Island? On
Long Island? IRV?

Speaker 2 (37:46):
Hey?

Speaker 11 (37:47):
Hey herv her?

Speaker 5 (37:49):
Hey's a going heer? Hey whoa five eleven adobe to
eighty five? Hey? Oh, I guess I gotta quitch a
poem for Fritz.

Speaker 6 (38:04):
From about before with the ball.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
Let's go okay, here we go.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
Hey.

Speaker 5 (38:09):
Little miss Muppett sat on her tuffet.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Eating her curds, and way oh long came.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
A spider who sat down beside her and said, hey,
get your grubby hands out of the bowl.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
That was excellent. I got a little nervous there, FORI
so did. I I thought we were hands out in
the bowl. Fritz, Katie and Wisconsin joining us. Hi, Katie,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 8 (38:36):
Hello?

Speaker 9 (38:37):
Hello, second time, second time caller, five bars, slinky one fifteen.
I am still laughing my butt off at Matt buying
the truck in the boat. I cannot wait for him
to call back tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
Okay, Katie, Katie, if your husband did that, bought a
boat and a truck without permission and brought it home,
what's the what? What could he say to get himself
maybe out of hot water?

Speaker 9 (39:04):
Well? My first intuition of the what thep But then
I think about it and think, no, I got freedom
to go shopping.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
Oh okay, okay.

Speaker 9 (39:14):
But the reason, the reason I'm calling is at Crappensburg State.
I'm hoping that you're going to put together a year book.
I'm thinking all the students that buy their t shirts
can maybe take pictures of themselves doing things and send
them in and maybe your technical guys can put together
a little yearbook and attach it to the newsletter or something.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
All right, I will I will take that under advisement
that maybe we have like a year yearbook. Wonderful idea
Crappensburg State, Rick and Tennessee. Hi, Rick, what's on your mind?

Speaker 6 (39:47):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (39:47):
Dan?

Speaker 11 (39:48):
First time, long time five point fifteen And I'm a
brick break and steal, bending batsnap and turn twenty five
pounds and I am thank you. I'm calling about Crappensburg
State as well. Of course, I think it's interesting that
you guys have come up. You've taken to the next
level because a lot of these schools they have ring
tones with their school songs. You guys are doing a

(40:10):
text tone and you've been saying it for months and
it's so appropriate. It's blue blue, and I think that's
perfect for a text tone. But here's the thing. It's
appropriate because nobody squats more than our students, right and
when our back's up against the wall and things aren't
going our way, we just listen to that great philosopher

(40:33):
Aaron Rodgers who says x lax.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
Thank you instead or relax all right, well thought out,
big big mind up there, justin and ide ex lax, hey, justin?
What's on your mind?

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Set?

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (40:48):
Hey Dan? Hey, I just wanted to share some good
news with you in a little bit of quick baseball trivia.
If I could The good news is my son got
his accept this letter to the Abraham Darby School of
Culinary Arts kind of Burg State. Abraham Darby, as you
well know, is the inventor of the Dutch ovens.

Speaker 4 (41:07):
Keep picking up steam.

Speaker 6 (41:10):
And then we have a couple of acronyms coming out
of Crappensburg State after an embarrassing loss to their rival,
our lady of Constance pet. We have the tooth plan
just thrown out on the bases like a mink and poop,
and the spark slam a s fielder allowed run to
score like a moron.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
Thank you, justin Crappensburg State all over it. Yes, it
lives on. Yeah. We had homecoming weekend spast weekend at
Crappensburg State. It was emotional, good turnout. Always great to
see the alumni come back to Crappensburg State. Final results
of the pole question see.

Speaker 7 (41:46):
Damn, we got a few of them, one of which
here we have. Will Matt and Portland's marriage survived this week.
He bought a truck in a boat and hasn't told
his wife yet right now. Unfortunately for him, seventy three
percent say no, I will not survive this week.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
I hope Matt calls back tomorrow to give me an update,
and I want to talk to his wife. Yeah, yeah, definitely, Yeah,
I want to talk to his wife.

Speaker 7 (42:05):
We have a haw legit of the Lions Super Bowl
contender playoff team. Cute story, are overrated, very rude. Only
point eight percent have them overrated, which is nice. About
seventy percent have them as a playoff team.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
Okay, yeah right, I agree, Yeah they should be.

Speaker 7 (42:20):
And the most frustrating NFL franchise forty three percent the Chargers,
followed by other and then the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
Yeah, recency biased there with the Chargers, I think.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
So.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
All right, So we have football coming up tonight, a
lot of football coming up tonight, and then you have
Game two Diamondbacks in the Phillies that's coming up today
or tonight tonight tonight.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
Yeah, I think it's like seven thirty. Okay, Maction football
didn't start for another two weeks Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. But
other schools like these Directional Schools Southeast Louisiana others are
pick up the.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
Slack sign up for the DP show newsletter. Make sure
you go to Dan Patrick dot com put in your

narrates the book, so I can read you a bedtime story. Todd,
would you learn on today's program.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
It's okay to say you have some talent.

Speaker 11 (43:14):
Self confidence is a good quality, and it's not being arrogant.

Speaker 4 (43:17):
That's why I learned to it.

Speaker 7 (43:18):
And you're fragile and I'm very seatan According to t
J Watt, JJ Watson is already training.

Speaker 1 (43:24):
Yeah, pushing suitcases around not even a year old. Marvin
Fritzy tried to blame the cameras, Oh, I know, for

Speaker 4 (43:34):
Put your grubby hands out of the group.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
For rubby fingers out of the disgusting Yeah, Paulie, would
