Thunders sweep the Pelicans. Celtics up three to one on

injures is calf Tonight's seventy six Ers at the Knicks,

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the
app and allowing us into your home. Also are radio
affiliates around the country as well. Travis kelce signed an
extension with the Chiefs. Jason Kelcey signed with ESPN on
the same day. Don't you think that they would coordinate
this in a different way to let each one have their.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Day or did they do it together?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Was it a collab because Travis Kelcey is to sign
it for two more years, I think you'll play two years.
He's already had a couple of years on that contract,
but they freshened that up, and rightfully so has Travis
kelce Is he the face of that franchise because normally
you think the quarterback when you're winning all those Super Bowls?

(02:00):
Travis Kelcey become the face of the Kansas City Chiefs
And I would say yes because of everything off the field,
hosting Saturday Night Live, now dating Taylor Swift, He's a personality,
got the number one podcast along with his brother, and
it feels like the tight end is the face of

(02:20):
the franchise as opposed to the quarterback. That doesn't happen
very often, if it's ever happened before. Jason Kelsey, who yes,
I did have conversations with, and he just wanted he
was picking the brains of a lot of people in
the business and doing the right thing, doing his due
diligence of where he wanted to go for his broadcasting career,

(02:41):
and he had a lot of leverage here. And yes,
I did say to him, if you're going to ESPN,
understand ESPN, because if you go to NBC or CBS, Fox,
you'll be used less, you won't be exposed as much.
But that can be a good thing because ESPN has
a way of over exposing. If they find somebody like

(03:02):
McAfee or Steven A or Dick vi Tao or Chris Berman,
they tend to overexpose. But I said that can be
a good thing as well. If you like going to
work and you like people knowing who you are being on,
you know, two, three, four times a day, you know,
then that could be for you. But yes, I did
talk to Jason Kelcey throughout this and he said, look,

(03:23):
I'm talking to a lot of different people in the business.
I kind of want to know, and I suggested, look,
you could go to CBS Nate Burlson's great talent. You
got JJ Watt in there, James Brown will take care
of you. I knew that they were going to be
making some changes with the pregame show. Didn't know exactly
who was going to be out, but Boomer Size and

(03:44):
Phil Simms not there. He still Bill Kauer in there.
But I thought that might be a good place to
go as well, because I said, it's quality of life
and you could go from Philadelphia to New York, take
the train up, you could do the show, go back,
be with your family. But with the ESPN you could
be traveling. You could be in Bristol, Connecticut a lot.
So just make sure that you're able to monitor how

(04:06):
they use you. And he decided to go with ESPN.
We connected yesterday. I said, congratulations, and if I could
be of any help down the road, I'll be more
than happy to help you. He doesn't need any help,
but I imagine Travis will be joining him at some
point here in two years. So let's see poll question,

(04:27):
what are we going to go with today's Seaton?

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Well, I think we're probably going to start with the
lead topics better signing yesterday, Travis Kelsey, Jensen Kelcey.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
That's the hot one right there.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Well, I would say Travis, because you still have a
chance to win super Bowls.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
I mean, ESPN may win a Sports Emmy, but I'd
rather have the super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
That's a major acquisition. That's one of the hottest free
agents out there in media.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yes, that's a and you sign him.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
And I think I may have given Jason Kelcey even
more leverage because if he goes so so when I said, hey,
I wouldn't go to ESPN, but it's only because my
experience when people I remember talking to Steve Young, Charles Bart,
I mean, I've talked to many athletes and they said,
tell me what it's like, and I said, I'm gonna
tell you what it's like. But it's not for everybody.

(05:17):
But it is a wonderful place and they launch stars,
they make stars out of people. But you got to understand,
if you go there, you go into the car wash,
and sometimes you're there for eight nine hours a day
on different shows, and you forget what you even said,
you know an hour earlier, but you know he'll do well.
He's fun, probably do WWE. He's going to have his podcast.

(05:41):
His brother is still you know, playing well and dating
Taylor Swift. So a lot of things are going well
for Jason Kelcey. But Travis Kelcey that's different. That's two
more years and then going into the media business. After that,
they'll probably look at what the Mannings are doing and
maybe doing off shooting that. You know, there was talk,

(06:02):
there was discussion of these other networks and what they
were offering.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
But make no mistake about it.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
You know, Jason kelce was going to make his own decision,
but he did talk to a lot of people in
the business and his decision was to go to the
Mothership where he'll be there on Monday night. So good
for him, Yes, Paul.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I wonder if Travis Kelsey can do anything to be
considered the greatest tight end of all time. It does
feel like, at least in modern generation, maybe it's Gronk,
Tony Gonzalez, Travis Kelcey's entering the chat, you know, back
in the old days.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
And day, I think Travis Kelsey will be viewed as
the greatest tight end of all time.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
He's got nine hundred and seven catches, which is it's
not that correct. He's popular now, Gronk's you know popular.
Tony was great Tony Gonzalez with those numbers, you know,
those are video game numbers for a tight end. But
he didn't have that popularity boost like Gronk did and
to have postseason success. When it got to the postseason,

(06:59):
you knew Gronk was going to come up big. Travis Kelcey,
how many times do we come in on a Monday
and I go, I.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Don't know how he's always open? How many times do
we say that? Because I'm always fascinated with that he's
not athletic. And you know, I was listening to Nick
Wright yesterday and he was talking about the Chiefs. They
drafted a tight end, and he said, you know what,
what Kelsey does can be taught to somebody else. It's

(07:25):
not like he's a great athlete or something that's you know,
crazy athletic or superior to a lot of you know,
players he's playing against. He just knows how to play.
And he said that might be something passing on that
information to a teammate, that those are things that can
be taught. But Travis Kelcey with his popularity, I think

(07:47):
is going to be you know, like Terry Bradshaw became
popular now, whereas back when he was with the Steelers
he wasn't as popular because everybody else was mean. Joe Green,
Chuck Knowle coheris all. That's right, it was Terry. Joe
Montana was really popular, had commercials. He was a big deal.
Dan Marino was a big deal. There's certain quarterbacks who

(08:11):
didn't care about doing that and maybe were better quarterbacks
than we give them credit for. But Travis kelce first
of all, you win super Bowls and you play at
a really high level, and maybe you get another super
Bowl in here that would solidify you know, Gronk's great.

(08:31):
You've got other tight ends that are in there, But
I would say Travis Kelcey will go down as the
greatest tight end, and not because of production as much
as production plus popularity, yes or yes, pulling quickly.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Gronk's an interesting case because he had four great regular seasons.
He had a bunch of other banged up regular seasons. Yeah,
he only had only six hundred and twenty one catches. Well,
that's great. It's less than half of Tony Gonzalez. It's
four hundred to be four and lesson Kelsey. But it
feels like Gronk is like when healthy, if I could
have any tight end on my team, he might be.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
That might be the guy.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Like Jim Brown does not have the numbers anymore. But
if you said the greatest running back all the time,
people still say Jim Brown. It's like Gronk is such
a unique physical individual.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
See I would say I would have said Gronk, but
I think the last couple of years have changed me
with Kelsey, Like, Kelsey is there all the time. Gronk
got banged up, but you know, Gronk took a lot
of hits. I mean, Kelsey is really a fascinating player
to watch. And that's the Yeah. That guy's always open
and it amazes me. Of Now, it helps having mahomes obviously,

(09:38):
because there has to be sort of that intuitive Hey,
I know where you're going to be or I can
help you.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Hey, put it there.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
You know, when they played the Ravens in the playoffs,
I think most of us thought the Ravens at home,
they're playing, well, they're going to beat the Chiefs. Well,
Travis Kelsey wouldn't have it and I think when you
have those players who step in a big moment, but
he's also there during the regular season. Now, I thought
he slowed down this year. During the regular season, it

(10:04):
was like, Okay, coming back to Earth, and then all
of a sudden, you get to the postseason, then you
go nope, yuh, he dialed it up.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
I don't know if you can continue to do it
for two more years, but he'll go down as the
greatest tight end of all time.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Yeah, mart Man, you are being such a good person
right now. A shout out to all of our fans
in Los Angeles. You're holding off while talking about the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Okay, trying, I'm trying. It's over, Johnny. It is over.
It is over. Just the season.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
The question is how over is over for the Lakers,
because if you would have said that Ad would play
in over seventy games and Lebron Austin Reeves, I mean,
they had a nucleus here that they played together, played healthy,
they had a nice season. You just run into the
wrong team again. And I think that they thought they

(11:00):
had some answers there, but they didn't. And I think
that's that's what's interesting, an interesting case study of what
happens in the off season. Darvin ham is probably going
to pay the price here, and then lebron does he
opt out? He wants the Lakers to draft Bronny. And well,
there's a lot of pressure on Bronnie because I think

(11:22):
Bronnie should be going to do Caine and play another year.
But it feels like the clock is ticking on his dad.
He wants to play with his son. Now, the Lakers,
you bring Lebron back, and all the reports are they
want Lebron back badly, And then what do you do
with Bronnie? Are you going to draft him? What if
somebody else drafts him instead of you, D'Angelo Russell, what

(11:44):
do you do with him? I mean they I thought
they had the depth this year. I thought that this
you know, they made some moves in the off season.
I thought that they had enough to at least go
back to the Western Conference finals. But look, when you're
struggling to get into a play in game that the
West is young, and they looked old at times, and

(12:07):
as once again last night, they try to win the
game in the first half. They're always leading halftime, and
I always say, Okay, Denver is going to win. Now,
let's be fair, that was a really really close game,
and you know you had Jamal Murray hitting the game
winning shot.

Speaker 7 (12:26):
There.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Can you think of a superstar who doesn't always take
the last shot, almost prefers not to because I can
think of Magic Johnson, and I can think of Djoki,
Larry Bird's going to take the shot. Michael would always

(12:48):
want to take the shot. There were times when he
had to pass on. But I mean, how many great players.
I could say Steve Nash, But Steve Nash was a
pass first guy to begin with. But you know star
players in those moments, and there's Joker out there trying

(13:08):
to set a pick and then Jamal Murray. You know,
it's two in the four wins hitting jumpers. But you
have to have an ego to be great, but you
also have to have less of an ego to say,
I don't have to be the one who's great if
it makes more sense for that guy to take the shot.

(13:29):
And I found that really interesting last night because I
kept thinking, Okay, are they going to do pick and roll?
Joker hits a jumper and then all of a sudden
he's out there, gets a little bit tangled up and
then Murray off the dribble and then hits the game winner.
But not many great players of all time.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Now I'm not.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Talking Bill Russell, because Bill Russell wasn't that go to score.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
You know, Jerry West going.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
To take the shot down through history, Reggie Miller's going
to take the shot. The great players want the ball.
But then I'm watching Joker and go, I don't know
if it matters to him. So when Joker is your
third leading scorer, he also had twenty rebounds, yes, and

(14:17):
nine sis afterthought, yes, Now he didn't play a great game.
I think he had seven turnovers. But still he puts
in those numbers. And you have other players, I mean,
that's what makes them dangerous.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
You know.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Keep in mind Jamal Murray, you know, supposedly had a
calf injury and they didn't even know if he was
playing last night, and then he puts up thirty two.
Pretty amazing, And you gotta want that shot because you
know there's part of that where you go, well, of
course I want to be the hero and take the

(14:51):
game winning shot. There are a lot of guys who
have alligator arms when it comes to that final shot,
Like I don't want it because you have to live
with whatever the result is. And Jamal Murray, who once
again has never made an All Star team, came back
from a devastating injury, and it's really one of those
guys when you watch and we even said this going
into the game, he's one of those guys where you go, yeah, Lee,

(15:15):
that's another big shot it. It's almost to the point
if I'm him, I don't want to make the All
Star Team. I'd rather it be like, how did he
not make the All Star Team?

Speaker 7 (15:25):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (15:25):
Ma, it's like Bob Marley, never win in a Grammy Award,
noond you can have it like a great player, never
win in a Grammy or any a great great artist.
That's him. You know what, you can have the All
Star all NBA's I'm going to take these rings.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
And that's why we don't want a Sports Emmy. We
don't need it.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
We want to be snubbed.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
We're the Jamal Murray sports broadcasting here. We want to
be snubbed.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
All right. Phone calls are welcome. I mean, want to
be pretty sure where I'm going on your seventeen It's.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Okay, all right, we'll settle on poll question. Phone calls
are welcome, and we'll explore what's going on with the
Celtics with Chris Tom Supportzingis with his injury. There but
seventy six Ers, Nicks, Magic Cabs, Pacers in the Bucks
coming out later on tonight. Take a break back after this.

And I'm Joe Madden.

dugout maybe in the nineteen eighties.

Speaker 8 (16:47):

Speaker 9 (17:05):
It's gonna be a six to one win for the
Panthers here.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
In Game five.

Speaker 9 (17:10):
That's the game, that's the series. The Panthers win this
edition of the Sunshine State Showdown and punch a ticket
to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
My Panthers gonna win the Stanley Cup. Yeah, I said it.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
When you think of hockey, you think of me, and
I'm saying the Panthers is gonna win the Stanley Cup.
All right, we'll have our play of the day coming up.
A few stats of the day as well. Oh, I
have one here for you. How about this first stat
of the day? Fire up some music here, Marvin.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
Two three.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
At least one of Lebron, James, Kevin Durant Steph Curry
has played in the second round of the NBA playoffs
every single postseason since two thousand and eight. That was
before social media. In fact, it was two thousand and six,
the two thousand and five NBA postseason the last time

(18:25):
none of the three played in the second round of
the playoffs. That was Lebron's second season in the NBA,
and neither Durant nor Curry were in the NBA at
the time. Stat of the Day brought to you by
Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
You are starting to see a little bit more.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
I don't want to say it's a seismic shift, but
these are the faces of the NBA. They have been
for such a long time. You got Kevin Durant, Steph Curry,
and Lebron James Lebron maybe two more years Steph two years,
Kevin Durant. How many more years for Kevin Durant a
couple more years maybe, But they're not the best players

(19:04):
in the game now. They're still exciting to watch. Tune
in factor for them, certainly with Steph and Lebron. But
you got the younger players, the number of players who
are twenty seven and under, and they're stars, or at
least they're on the verge of being stars now. Part
of the reason why they're not true stars is because
you still have the shadows of Lebron and Katie and

(19:24):
Steph Curry. But if you watched Anthony Edwards against the
Phoenix Suns, he was the best player on the floor
with Lebron. You know, Joker is still the best player
in the game, not going anywhere, and it's not like
he's going to slow down. He's already slow. So it's
one of those where you go, man, you know, father

(19:45):
time gonna do some damage. No, I think the only
thing that happens to Joker is he gets bored and says,
I want to go back home. But ant Man is here,
that is an explosive player. And I was also wondering,
and you know, you have other players Jalen Brunson, Lucas
what twenty five, Jason Tatum seems old at what twenty six,

(20:06):
twenty seven. You got a lot of young players here,
A lot of young talent there, say Shay Gilgis Alexander.
I mean that entire Thunder team. And I was wondering
this with the Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves, which one
might be too young for this moment, because I would

(20:26):
not put it out of the realm of possibility that
Minnesota can't upset Denver. They have they got some big
pieces inside. You got Karl anton A Towns, Rudy Gobert,
and maybe you can neutralize Joker, but keep in mind,
the Lakers neutralized him, Ad went toe to toe with him. Statistically,

(20:48):
it's you can't let Jamal Murray or Michael Porter Junior
the third go off. I don't think Denver has a
lot of depth, and I don't think you need to
have and I think you need to have two consistent
stars and then you have depth that you know that
you have four or five guys. But that was the
thing with the Lakers. You had Lebron and Ad. They

(21:09):
just didn't know who to rely on.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
Is is it.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Reeves, it Hotamurra, is it D'Angelo Russell? Like who's stepping up?
And when you don't know that, you know that that's
where you have some trepidation when you go into those
final minutes of a game.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
I have the average age of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
It's just over twenty three, twenty three point eight. Yeah yeah, uh,
the Timberwolves it's twenty five point seven.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Yeah, well slightly old.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
That's probably with Rudy Gobert, yeah right, ye right, bringing
that one. Yeah, they're young teams, and you know, sometimes
you'll see this with a young team they don't know better,
Like who said we're not supposed to be here and
they played really good defense. Now, granted you didn't have
Zion last night, but the Thunder are the first team

(21:59):
to hold an opponent to ninety two points or less
in all four games of a playoffs sweep since twenty thirteen.
That's when the Spurs and Heat did so in their
first round sweeps that year. So playing defense is really
important this time of the year. Half court offense is
really important regular season. I don't care what happened during

(22:19):
the regular season. I want to know half court offense.
You have to score a bucket, not you know, the
regular season, everybody seems to be in transition up and
down the floor shooting threes. Now's when you're going to
get those games where it's, you know, like one oh
four to one oh one, and are you hitting the
big shot, big free throw like those are the that's

(22:41):
the difference here. We'll get some phone calls here. Who
should feel worse The Lakers, Warriors, Sons, Sons.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
Yeah, yeah, the Sun's got to feel pretty bad.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Give a little time before you answer, Marv. Yeah, the
Sons are in trouble. They are in trouble, uh.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Because of all the teams that you just mentioned, They're like,
so what are we gonna do?

Speaker 1 (23:12):
The Suns. It's like, so what can we do?

Speaker 7 (23:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (23:16):
You know that's like a.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Big financially, they can't do anything unless you say to
Devin Booker, hey would you like to play where?

Speaker 1 (23:27):
That doesn't seem like the plan.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
But that's the only guy that you can trade. That's
the only guy you can trade. Okay, if you said
to KD, hey would you like to play in Miami?

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Okay? But what are you getting in return for KD?
You know the Lakers they still have a D and
Lebron's still playing at that's still a high level. I
mean it is.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
If you said, my guy is going to go twenty seven,
five and five at that age, hell yeah, sign it up.
But I just you know, now, what do you do?
You got some draft picks here, you know this Lebron
wanted some of these players in, and then now you're
going to bring in a new coach, perhaps what kind
of system are you running? Like Frank Vogel, you know,

(24:14):
reportedly already on the hot seat in Phoenix. You just
got there, and now you've got Katie Bradley, beal d
book I mean, not good Golden State all right, maybe
you get the band back together again. They do have
some depth there, and maybe maybe you could have a

(24:37):
magical season.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
Yeah, Pauline, I look at the Suns and I could
see Bradley Beal someday getting that John Wall treatment where
they pay him to sit or they pay him to
go away. It's just it looks bad. On the other hand,
if I'm the Lakers, if I'm a Laker fan, I
don't feel so bad because I feel like we have
a good team. We have some financial flexibility, there's a
diverse roster of ages. I just feel they he ran

(25:00):
into a team. It's like running against Usain Bolt thirteen
years ago. Oh, I'm the fourth fastest person in the world. Great,
you're not that close. Yeah, but the Nuggets are that.
The Nuggets are like Bolt.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Yeah, but Lebron doesn't feel good finishing in fourth place.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
To use sin Bold, right, what I was saying is
that this roster, there's nothing you could do. They would
have to hope for an injury to beat the Nuggets.
The Nuggets aren't really, but.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Then they didn't do a good job in building the roster.
Lebron helped build the roster. I think it's bad timing,
and Lebron was even asked last night after the game.

Speaker 10 (25:31):
Tonight, was there any thought at all that you know
this could have been your last game with the Lakers.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
I'm not going to answer that. Appreciate it?

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Okay, come on, can't you just say? I hope so
plan on it. I haven't thought about it. Lebron is
always three moves ahead. He's thought about this, of course
he has. And this is where you go. I will
to see what management does in the offseason. But you're

(26:03):
getting paid close to sixty million dollars. You're not going
to shut it down. Does he try to? Okay, so
you stay? You hope they draft Bronnie? What happens if
you don't get Bronnie and somebody else takes him? Would
Lebron think about trying to form another super team someplace else?

(26:27):
Could you see him going back to Cleveland? Could you
see him going back to Miami? And how many options
does he have that are realistic? I mean all of
his businesses out in La, family out in La, got
his son who's playing high school basketball, a daughter playing
high school volleyball. Do you want to be setting up
shops someplace else? How important is that? One more title, yes, don.

Speaker 11 (26:54):
And what does he have to gain by answering that question?
He likes attention, he likes people talking about him. That's
what many people think. And you know, why would you
tip your hands and make things easy for your current
team or what's going to be next for you by
saying yeah, I definitely want to stay here in any job.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
I guess Okay, but he just added more speculation, which
he likes. Okay, but now you can't say, hey, you know,
don't ask me, you know those questions. I would just say,
I hope, so plan on it. I got a contract.
Now he might opt out, but I don't like he's

(27:29):
added to it. In that situation subtract he added, So
now you're going could he leave now? I don't know
if management goes Well, did you hear what Lebron said
he could leave? I think they already know what they're
going to do with Lebron. You know there's a player
option there for fifty two million dollars. So do I

(27:51):
see him walking away? Well, where's he going? How does
BRONI factor into this? Like, there's there's a lot of
things involved in this. But I would have just said,
you know, I hope. So thank you guys, thank you
and then leave yes time.

Speaker 11 (28:08):
And also with the Lakers running into the Nuggets and
the unfortunate nature of that being their first round opponent,
how convinced are we that that team was going to
get past the Clippers, MAVs, Thunder and any of the
team Minnesota they could have easily you know, bounced that
playing them in the first round.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Well yeah, I mean we saw where they were seated
during the regular season. They weren't one of the top seeds.
So yeah, I would imagine if they played Minnesota, Minnesota
would be favored, Oklahoma City, OKC would be favored. So
I'm not surprised at that, But I think the off

(28:42):
season will be interesting, just because there's a lot more
attached than just can you reload with this, the role
that his son plays in all of this. I do
feel bad for Browning, just because I think he needs
a full year college basketball and now you're going to
go into the NBA. I mean, he's he's working out,

(29:06):
getting ready to go into the draft, but I guess
still holding out the option of maybe you know, in
the transfer portal, but you're going to go in and
he's just not ready to play. You know when somebody says, oh,
you know, how is Brownie? Well, I watched three full
USC games late in the season, and I didn't even like.

(29:30):
He wasn't on the floor in one of the games,
and he wasn't one of the top players on his
own team. And I just you're going to go into
the league and I don't know how much you're going
to play. You're going to be on the team with
your dad. But you know, that's when you got people
looking at you like, yeah, okay, oh, nepotism here, yep,

(29:50):
there's going to be yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Bull.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
For the upcoming draft, we partially of the draft order.
The Lakers has a seventeenth pick, and then if you
go to on the second round, in case Bronnie is
the second rounder, they have a mid second round pick,
the forty eighth pick.

Speaker 10 (30:02):
Of the draft.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
The second round is giving a lot of coverage.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Okay, but do you think that the league would say
we're gonna do lebron a solid compensatory pick and we're
not going to draft his son.

Speaker 4 (30:18):
You mean the other Gems collectively pass on him.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Yeah, I did. I did wonder about that.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Oh, they may may be planning to anyway. You know,
I don't know if if.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
He's like, let's say Orlando goes, we're gonna take Bronnie James. Okay,
now what happens Lebron's not going to Orlando?

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Well, Orlando has the forty seventh pick of round two
one before the Lakers. Yes, they could take Yeahnny James
and then you get a package deal.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Yes. Andrew in Washington, Hi Andrew, Hey.

Speaker 10 (30:52):
Dan, thanks for taking my call. Good morning again it Yeah, yeah,
I got something on the Lakers as well. I think
that they should move away from eighty. He had that
little bump injury. I don't see how you've ever just
checked for space and the key and got a neck
injury as bad as he did, but it was a
true injury. He had a dead arm. I think we
should move past them in this retool the lineup. And

(31:13):
there are some unrestricted unrestricted free agents. Pascal Siaka is one, buddy,
Healed is one that's come up several times with the Lakers.
And one restricted free agent which I doubt that Philadelphia
will let him go, is Tyrese Maxey. But that would
be great to get that point guard.

Speaker 7 (31:28):
On the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Well, They keep talking about all maybe Trey Young to
the Lakers, and I go do Jonte Murray. It feels
like any name, all you have to do is attach
them to the Lakers. Trey Young ball dominant guard. Didn't
we already go through that with Russell Westbrook Junior the
third ball dominant. I mean, Lebron's the guy who's handling

(31:53):
the ball. You go back to Russell Westbrook. Deal so bad.
But I'm looking at these numbers here. Lebron, James, Anthony Davis,
Austin Reeves, and d Low each played in at least
seventy one games. You'll sign up for that. I mean,

(32:13):
I'm not a D'Angelo Russell fan. He's streaky.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
I you know, I don't want him as my starter.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
But if I'm getting seventy one regular season games, that's
pretty good. You know, Vanderbilt was out. Vincent missed seventy
one games, Christian would missed the final twenty six, Ruey
Hachimura missed fourteen.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
So you you.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Had guys who played, and then you had guys you
would expect to play and they didn't. Like Lebron is
leading the charge and ad Ad played well this year,
and those numbers against Joker, Like you'll sign up for that, So,
like I wouldn't be as discouraged. But now is where
you go, Wait, could a d do this again? Like

(32:58):
what are the odds that AD is going to play
in seventy.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
One games this next season?

Speaker 2 (33:03):
And how do we get better? Because we have to
get better because the teams that were facing are better
than us.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
See, it's crazy too when you're watching AD because it
isn't just the injuries that knock him out of the game,
it's the ones that happen throughout the game that he
stays in for. Like he goes up dunks the ball,
he's holding his hand for a while the way he
fell and then he got his wrist jam. Today he's
got to hold his hand.

Speaker 12 (33:28):
God, I can't.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
I can't make it back down the court because my
wrist hurts.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
And then oh wait, they're coming back this I got it, said,
there's a million of those two.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
I had a guy who played basketball with and he
hurt his wrist and he started limping.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
I said, Tommy, what are you doing? He goes, I
hurt my wrist? I said, you're limping? What's wrong with
You're leking? Like as an eight year old.

Speaker 5 (33:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
By the way, Anthony Davis this year played seventy six games,
started seventy six games. The last time in his career
he started more than seventy five games was not in
the pros. He had seventy five. A couple times his
minutes were thirty six minutes per game. That's the most
in seven years. His numbers twenty five, twelve and a half.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
I'll take that. Oh, I'll take all of that.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
This is his best, most consistent season since twenty seventeen eighteen.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
And he's not one of those guys where you go,
I'm gonna hitch our wagon to him, and he's our star.
I think Lebron would like that for Ad to be
the best player on the floor. I think Lebron knows
it's just not going to happen.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Wasn't that the plan?

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Yes, yes, when they brought him in, it was, Hey,
you be the star. I'll be the complimentary player. Yeah,
you can be Kareem and I'll be magic here. All right,
let me take a break, play the day up next.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Jokichaz at the paint, Hurry.

Speaker 9 (35:00):
Duck Lacrode, Taylor Pron James get the hell out of
the way.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Courtesy of Altitude Radio Network. Jamal Murray had two dunks
of the forty eight field goals he made in the series.
Two of those field goals won the game. I'm your
play of the day post play of the day here
seems successful.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Yeah, Lebron James get the hell out of them. I
know that's necessary.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Robert Or, a Lakers commentator for Spectrum Sports Net, seven
time NBA Champ three with the Lakers, joins us on
the program. How you feeling today?

Speaker 7 (35:40):
Been good? Brother? How are you make good? See?

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Good to see you.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
When Nuggets had the ball game tied, what were you thinking?

Speaker 7 (35:49):
Trap? That's what I was thinking, Trap and rotate.

Speaker 13 (35:53):
You know, that's the thing when you got shooters like Murray,
and he can be bad one, two, three those quarters,
but that fourth quarter he comes alive. And for me,
you get the ball out of the most dangerous manhand. And
I'm a strong believer in that, and a lot of
people like to say that's old school basketball. But make
someone else be the superstar, make someone else knock down

(36:14):
a big shot, get it out of the head.

Speaker 7 (36:16):
Of the snake's hand. And the Lakers didn't do it.
They were just content with switching.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Well, I wondered about that, and you're saying that they
should have forced somebody other than Jamal Murray to take
that shot. So you would have been comfortable if Joker
ended up with the ball of the game on the line.

Speaker 13 (36:31):
No, in that situation, you got the Joker and Murray
in the pick and roll. Soon as you see that
pick and roll, the backside defense should be talking, I'm gone.

Speaker 7 (36:39):
We used to call it amazingly.

Speaker 13 (36:41):
We used to call it Denver where you run over
and you trap the ball and someone else stays on
the big and you make someone else beat you, and
you got to think about it. It's three seconds left
to go on the clock, and guys are looking at
the clock on the from the other end of the floor,
and you say, hey, go and then you square up
because that three seconds you gotta pass it. You gotta

(37:02):
that trap makes you go further away from the office
It's so many things that can happen in that play.
But you gotta saying guys are too good now one
of them. It doesn't matter if you put the best
defending and be on them or the worst defending guys
that are gonna get buckets.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
All right, Lakers, moving forward, what would you do in
the off season?

Speaker 13 (37:22):
You know what it's for me is to make sure
these guys come back. I think you need to run
it back and with everybody, with everybody. I know a
lot of people are down on d Loo's a lot
of people down on all these guys. I think d
Lo learns something this season that he can be a
player in this league. And if he wants to play defense,
and that's the thing, if you watch d Low when

(37:44):
he wants to play defense, he can play defense. And
I think with this team, you know, if d Lo
gets high, he had a great season and Lebron comes back.
But the key is if you bring that core back,
you have to make eighty the focal point. You have
to you know, Lebron has to take a back seat.
Ar All these guys have to take a back seat

(38:04):
because tell me, what guy in the league can stop
ad Nobody?

Speaker 7 (38:09):
So you go with that advantage.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
Well, look, he had a good year this year. M h.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
If you would have said he was gonna play seventy
five games, I would have been like, there is no way.

Speaker 13 (38:19):
But I've made a bet with some friends of mine
that he would play seventy five games because I believed them,
because I looked at his body come into this season.
He looked really good. He had no belly, you.

Speaker 7 (38:31):
Know, a lot.

Speaker 13 (38:32):
That's how you can tell if guys worked out, they
got a little pooch, you know, they got a little fluffiness.

Speaker 7 (38:36):
He had no fluffiness coming into the season.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Well, can I get that season again from him? Can
Lebron give me that season again?

Speaker 5 (38:45):
Can?

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Like?

Speaker 2 (38:46):
That's what I'm concerned about, Robert, is they had good
they had a good year this year. Yeah, it's just
they ran into the team that they can't get by.

Speaker 13 (38:55):
Yeah, they Nemesis, but they found that, they found a
way to contend with that. And so now you're looking like, Okay,
this is how we beat this this is this team,
this is the formula, Lebron, I know you're gonna be
what forty.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
Robert, Robert? Are the Lakers better than Minnesota?

Speaker 7 (39:12):
You know what? I think so.

Speaker 13 (39:14):
And the reason it is is you don't look at
records all the time.

Speaker 7 (39:18):
You look at matchups.

Speaker 13 (39:20):
And when you look at matchups, you look at you
got guys like Rui, who has a big body that
I'm not gonna say it can stop it man, because
he's playing amazing, that can stay in front, that can
handle that strength. You know, meet force with force, and
that's what this is about. Can you meet force with force?
And think about it. Every time Lakers play Minnesota, Gobert

(39:41):
can't stop ad. Cat can't stop a d and that's
the biggest key, you know. And I think Cat he's
become a three point shooter, so you don't have to
worry about that post up aspect, so you can put
Ruey on him and so the matchups are perfect.

Speaker 7 (39:55):
It's all about matchups.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yep. What's Lebron?

Speaker 7 (39:58):
Do you know?

Speaker 13 (40:00):
I think Lebron, with all the projects he have going
up here in LA, I think he's going to use
that leverage to get one last big contract. And I
know a lot of people are saying, oh, he wants
to play with Brian and he wants to do this,
you know, I think with Brianni, Uh, you know.

Speaker 7 (40:14):
I know he's in the portal. Now depends on what
he's gonna be.

Speaker 13 (40:17):
I think he's gonna stay because at the end of
the day, you look at all let's look, let's take
James Harden Finston's you know, he set a record that
they making thirty points on five different team.

Speaker 7 (40:25):
Do you really want that a part of your legacy?
Jumping from team to team?

Speaker 13 (40:29):
The team You think about the greats, you know, Kobe, Dirt,
you know Tim These guys then jump from team to team.
They stayed on one team. No, Lebron has been on
three teams, and I don't think he wants that to
be a part of his legacy.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Okay, but do the Lakers have to draft his son?

Speaker 13 (40:44):
No, they don't. You know, at the end of the day,
the Lakers about winning basketball. Now, if you have a slot,
and let's be honest, this draft, it ain't the best draft.
There's no dominant number one player, there's no dominant top
five players. It could go anyway, you know, because of
the draft so weak. You draft him. You know you
drafted whole because you know I watched him play. My

(41:05):
son and him play against each other. Sarah Kenyon, Harvard,
Westlake I've seen him play. The guy's athletic is hack.
He can play. You know, he's a great defender, So
he could be a project player. I'm not saying he
gonna come in to the league and set the league
on fire. But if he does play, he does leave
to go to the NBA, someone can take a project
player because that's what he's gonna be, because he's not
ready yet, because he's still you know, needs to learn

(41:26):
the game like a lot of these guys coming into
the draft.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
He's Robert or the Lakers commentator for Spectrum Sportsnet. How
good are the Nuggets?

Speaker 13 (41:34):
The Nuggets are real good, but you do see a
flaw in their armor, and that's their bench, and you know,
with Murray having to play so minutes, you know Yokis.
You know, that's the first time last night I saw
Yokis look like out of wits. He had so many turnovers,
he didn't go to the free throw line. It was
so many things. So I know he tweaked this ankle
earlier in the series. Is that affected him? But I

(41:57):
think this next series is going to be the test.

Speaker 7 (42:00):
You know.

Speaker 13 (42:00):
Other than that, I'm not worried about anybody else anywhere
but Minnesota, and it comes to beating Denver because I
think Minnesota they give them problems their size and their
strength and the athleticism, and that's the only team that's
going to give Denver Neggas problems.

Speaker 7 (42:13):
But I see there is a chink in the armor.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
I agree that Minnesota is dangerous and it's all about matchups.
And who does Djokisch remind you of?

Speaker 7 (42:24):
Uh Sibonis?

Speaker 13 (42:26):
Not the young Sabonis, the old are Vetas our Vetas Sabonis.
You know, the thing is you have to watch the
Vedas when he was young, not the Portland Uh Sabonis,
because his athleticism was amazing. You know, you got to
see little little snippets of him. And when he came
into the league in Portland, No, he was killing it.
His ability to pass that behind the back pass that

(42:47):
that Jokis did the other night, Sabonis was doing that
to day and start amound every time on the post.

Speaker 7 (42:53):
It was the most unique past that you ever see.

Speaker 13 (42:56):
And I just think, you know, Yokis the way his
ability to knock down three and rebound, and you know
he can't jump over Kurve, but somehow he knows how
to position himself, put himself.

Speaker 7 (43:06):
In the right position to get rebounds. You know, like
Dennis Robin.

Speaker 13 (43:09):
Dennis Robin can jump, but he was that guy that
he knew exactly when that ball hit the rim where
it was gonna go, and he went to that spot
and got the rebound.

Speaker 1 (43:17):
Going forward. A better chance to win a title. The
Warriors or the Suns, that's.

Speaker 13 (43:24):
A trick question, man. The Warriors are their aging dynasty.
And when you can't count out Steph and it all
depends on Clay Man.

Speaker 7 (43:34):
You know, I look at Clay's health and I love Clay.

Speaker 13 (43:37):
He was one of those quote unquote two way players
that you just admire when he plays a game. But
his body is just, you know, it's letting him down.
And and you know the volatility of Draymond. You don't
know what's gonna go with that. But I think when
you got a gunner like Steph, you get a big,
you know, a big that could you know, anchor their back,
you know, get some rebounds, play some defense, blocks shots.

(44:00):
I think they can run it back because they're an
undersized team. Draymond can't do all that anymore. He can't
block the shot. He can get the rebounds, but he
can't block the shots. So when you have a shot
blocker that can protect guys when they press up on
them like that, I think they can run it back.
So I will say the Warriors, the Suns, they just
I think they get ready to have a coaching change,

(44:20):
which would be wrong. They gonna try to they got
they make the Big Three make too much money, so
they can't get any players in there. They're just They're
gonna be in the shambles for the next couple of years.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
Okay, but could you see Durant saying, let me go
someplace else?

Speaker 13 (44:36):
Uh, you know, it's almost the reverse of what I
said about you know, James going. But I don't think
Durant mines. You know, he wants to win. He's trying
to find the right location.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
Like if I said Miami, Hey.

Speaker 13 (44:47):
Oh that would be nice right there. He went to
miam because I think, you know, one of the things
we don't talk about with Durant is his ability to
play defense. And I think Durant he would buy into
the quote unquote heat culture and think about it, Miami
really doesn't have a prolific score. I know Jimmy Buckets

(45:08):
can get but but that's not who he is. He
just likes to play the game and take what's given
to him. If you put him on that team, now
you got a new King of the East.

Speaker 5 (45:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:18):
I just and I don't know anything. I don't have
any knowledge. Nobody told me anything. I just wondered, sure
if I'm KD. No, if I'm KD uh huh. I
don't like this mix with Phoenix.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Frank Vogel's got like what four or five more years
left on that contract. Bradley Beal is always nice in
a wizard uniform, but now you're playing in big games,
and I mean, Devin Booker, Can you trade Devin Booker?
Would Devin Booker want to be traded? Maybe you get
some assets there.

Speaker 13 (45:50):
You know, Devin Booker is to me one of the
great players in this game that doesn't go talked about,
you know, because he's in Phoenix. And it's weird because
if you think of our guys who can score at
every point on the four post of mid range three,
he can do it all. But because he hasn't been
able to get over that hump. You know, they've been
to the finals and they weren't able to go that hump.

(46:12):
It's just like they forget about him. But I think
he is a valuable asset and whoever gets him if
he goes in it. But I don't think he wants
to go anywhere because he has all those cars in Phoenix.

Speaker 7 (46:23):
He likes riding in Phoenix. He can't do that in
New York. He can't do that in Miami. So that's
a perfect place for him. So he can really love
those cars. So I don't think he's gonna go anywhere.

Speaker 5 (46:33):
But he can go.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
You go to Utah, there's plenty of space out there
to drive your car around. If that's the case.

Speaker 13 (46:40):
Yeah, but he has no supporting cast. I think it's
gonna ge him to the promise left.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
Do you believe in the Knicks, you know?

Speaker 7 (46:46):
I do not think.

Speaker 13 (46:48):
I think, you know, Bronson is a hell of a
score and he's doing what But I think at the
end of the day, they need some size. They're not
big enough, you know. With healthy mb you know, and
with them able to play, I think it'd been a
different story. But who knows, though, you know, sometimes you
might be able to have that three guard front, you know,
and and get pass it. But I just think they're

(47:10):
too little. At the end of the day.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
Always great to talk to you. Thank you, Robert. I
hate saying it, but have a nice offseason.

Speaker 7 (47:19):
It's good.

Speaker 13 (47:20):
And unless you know, I hung my Gary jersey, So
I hung it in my Atria.

Speaker 1 (47:24):
Oh you did, yes, finally, because you talked so bad
about me. Well you had it there, but you didn't
hang it.

Speaker 7 (47:31):
I just I had to hang it. You know, I
thought about you when I was hanging Thank you, Robert,
Thank you, sir.

Speaker 2 (47:38):
That's Robert Dory, Lakers commentator for a Spectrum Sports Net
seven time NBA champ on.

Speaker 1 (47:43):
Three of those with the Lakers. Yeah, it's unpack some
of this here.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
If I'm durant, I probably say, you know what, let's
explore something here. Because he's what thirty six, he'll be
thirty seven. Maybe le Bron is going to stay for
a couple of years. Do you draft his son? Probably?

Speaker 5 (48:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (48:11):
How old is Kadie Marv he's thirty five?

Speaker 2 (48:14):
Thirty five? Okay, maybe an older thirty five? Yes, definitely
banged up a little bit there. Let me get a
couple of phone calls in here. Brandon in Wisconsin, Hey Brandon.

Speaker 12 (48:29):
Hey Dan, thanks shaking my call man here, Hey, guys.
So I'd like to make my case for Jordan Love
being a top five quarterback. So I feel like maybe
it's because of the draft and all the new shiny
toys that are coming out, but it seems like everybody's
kind of forgetting.

Speaker 7 (48:44):
About Jordan Low.

Speaker 12 (48:46):
I mean, the kid was top five in most you know,
important stats last year, not to mention brought him almost
two playoff victories against teams we shouldn't ever been in
the game. Again, So I don't know. Again, I think
it's around.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
Draft time, okay, but give me your top five. Then Brandon.

Speaker 12 (49:05):
Well, you got to go Mahomes, you gotta go Burrow.
But then you run into like do you take Justin Herbert?
Do you take just or Jordan Love?

Speaker 2 (49:14):
Right now, I would take Justin Herbert. I mean, and
I'm gonna put Lamar in there, and I'm gonna put
Josh Allen in.

Speaker 12 (49:21):
There, and then I mean, you have a conversation, don't you.

Speaker 2 (49:26):
Well I've said that Jordan Love is a top ten
quarterback and that's after one season. So it's like, I'm
fine with that, and you should be fine with that
once you get into the top five. Now, all of
a sudden, it's like, hey, you got to win. You
got to win consistently. I mean, that's what we're asking
Josh Allen, take the next step. Joe Burrow, can you

(49:47):
get back to the super Bowl? Lamar Jackson you got
to go further in the playoffs. Justin Herbert. You had
a melt down second half against Jacksonville in the play like,
that's what goes along with the territory. And Jordan loves
to be ready, to be able to step up every
time when you have those moments. And he's only played
one year. In the second half, he didn't play well

(50:08):
in the first part of the year, but second half
he played really, really well. You beat Dallas. Look, you
could have won that next game as well. Played well.
Get no arguments here, but I would say, let's just
let's just get into the top ten. Don't have to
you know, leapfrog everybody. It's okay, do it this year.

(50:33):
Then you got a chance to be in the top five.
Hunter in Missouri, Hi Hunter, what's on your mind?

Speaker 14 (50:40):
Hey, DP appreciate you guys. Second my call, second time,
long time. I joined the Dead Dad's Club last week,
so wanted to call in and welcome myself to the
club and then this commercial that you guys were talking
about earlier. I'm on board to get this thing off

(51:02):
air however I can be. It has been a topic
of discussion in my house since we first saw it.
It's the worst commercial ever. And then I just want
to say thank you to you guys. Man Like times
like these make you appreciate the little things, and you
guys just bring levity and joy into my life every day.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
So thank you well, thank you Hunter, and welcome to
the Dead Dad's Club. Marvin, could you play the commercial
that Hunter is bothered by the Oklahoma City thun O.

Speaker 13 (51:29):
Thank you for knowing exactly what Iffrone wants, what are
prone needs?

Speaker 7 (51:35):
Whatever makes me happy, says me.

Speaker 5 (51:38):
Free good, A little bit slap will get better.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
I think Chad Holmbern thinks he nailed it. I think
that that that might be part of the problem.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Because I think they kind of did nail it whilst
also not.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
Wait, what do you mean, like they were they good
at bad? I think that.

Speaker 3 (52:01):
I think that it isn't necessarily them that's flawed. They
executed the commercial exactly the way it was supposed to
be done.

Speaker 1 (52:08):
It's just a flawed commercial. Well wait, a minute, they
could sing better.

Speaker 3 (52:13):
Yeah, but then they wouldn't be able to be like, oh,
there's a little flat, But then it would be to be.

Speaker 1 (52:17):
A different But then you just dap each other and
you go killed it. Yeah, nailed it.

Speaker 11 (52:21):
Yes, the shoutouts had some nerdy hand gestures at the
end of that. It's just on top of the bad singers,
just brutal and it's waiting.

Speaker 1 (52:28):
Wasn't he doing like pit bull or something nerdy?

Speaker 6 (52:31):
What are you talking about? That was Riz right there.
That's what the young kids saying.

Speaker 11 (52:34):
He's like pointing to himself at the end of his
weird and I'm thinking.

Speaker 1 (52:37):
You, I'm never gonna listen to you when you say
something's not cool, Todd just say he has his finger
on the pulse. You're the You're the last I'm going
to go to when the is that cool?

Speaker 11 (52:51):
I think I'm more bothered by the Actually the wing
Stop no flex zone, no flex Zone, no flex zone.
The commercial that's over and over again. If you watch
any NBA must have seen the commercial a thousand times.
The second it goes to a commercial, you run out
of the room. It's a Wingstop commercial and they just
say no fleck the guy's playing django or something.

Speaker 7 (53:09):
I don't know how you guys not know what I'm
talking about.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
It's funny though, because we all know the AT and
T one, but I can't even think of this other one.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
I do try to get you
