Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hello, Buzzlers. Welcome to the Buzzler Podcast, the free cup
of coffee that you get after buying ten other cups
of coffee. I'm your host, A J. Jacobs. Today's guest
is the great Bethany Joy Lens, actress, singer, songwriter and

(00:25):
host of Drama Queens. Right here on iHeart Welcome Joy, Thank.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
You so much, so excited to be here. This has
been fun.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
We are delighted that you are our guest and your show,
Drama Queens is very funny. It's you and your co
stars from One Tree Hill talking about the behind the
scenes and the highs and the lows. It's very funny,
all of.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Our memories together. It's been fun.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
And by the way, do you address what the one
in One Tree Hill is? I haven't heard that yet.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, it's address of the high school.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Oh, it is the address of the high school. Okay,
all right, that makes sense. That's weird because I saw
on the internet there are all these other theories like
there's only one Tree Hill.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yes, well, it definitely spun into many other versions, but
that was the original thought behind the title. Other than
copying the U two song. I think he liked the
sound of the U two song and then spun the
title into what it would need it to.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Be interesting, all right, and it's sort of in the
address the like the teen base shows with addresses as
the title, like Beverly Hills nine O two, one zero exactly.
There's a trend, all right. Well, this puzzle is all
about phrases like one Tree Hill, meaning three word phrases

(01:48):
that start with a number and then have two words out.
So for instance, one answer might be ten speed bike,
or another might be twelve angry men.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Favorite movie by the way.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Oh look, excellent, excellent movie. Those are not answers because
we're actually gonna go in order from one to six,
so we never get up to ten. So we're starting
with one, and I'm going to give you a clue
and you can tell me if you can figure out
the three word phrase that starts, in this case with one. Okay,

(02:21):
And they're all going to be themed to one Tree
Hill because we like our theme, all right. So on
one Tree Hill, Lucas and Peyton flew to Las Vegas,
where they probably lost money at one of these a
synonym for slot machines. They lost money, they lost They

(02:41):
went to Vegas and lost money at the slot machines,
also known as you got on.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
I got the one but one, Oh gosh, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
I don't like. I don't gamble a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
I don't know the name of slot machines. Well it's
it's one three card draw, but I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
That's not one three card draw could have been a
good one, for this is one and it is it's
not legs, one arm sally, I don't know. Maybe this
is maybe I'm too old. Maybe that's the problem. One
armed bandit. Have you ever heard of a one armed bandit?

Speaker 3 (03:20):
I never heard of that.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
That is interesting. Well, we're here to educate, here to education.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
So one armed bandit is a slot machine.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Basically, that is another phrase for a slot machine, because
the idea is you you pull the arm and it
robs lever and it. Yeah, that is well, we're here
to help. And I mean, I'm probably good that you
don't know it, because that they are. They're a terrible
it's a terrible waste of money. It's not the odds
are terrible. So don't do the one arm bed. All right,

(03:50):
how about this one? Are you ready for this one?
We're on to number two. Yes, I'm feeling good phrase
starting with number two. When Haley and Nathan were dan
and sing yes, that's the prom it's possible he stumbled
and stepped on her. And if so, she might have said.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
You have two left feet there it is sorry, have
taken a second.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
That's good, That is good. We need to balance it
a little, all right, So this we're up to three,
three of six Haley. As you know, Haley works at
a cafe, and and she did some tutoring, but sometimes
maybe she just wanted to run away and join this.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Three ring circus.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Excellent, and thank you for the sound effects anytime. All right,
we're up to four. If One Tree Hill had aired
on HBO instead of the WB, you might have heard
a lot more of these.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Four letter words.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Such a but dramatic reading. That's exactly right. Four letter words.
All right, got two more?

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Well?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Free of this is number five starts with number five.
Now I'm worried that this one is obscure like the
one Armed bandit, but let's try it. So when Sam
on One Tree Hill shoplifts a skirt from Brooks store,
she was getting a.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Five alarm fire.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Oh no, that's good one. Wait, I'm doing a visual hint.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
One, two, three, four, five, five, I'm doing a big
five grab.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Yeah, what am I usually.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Rates five finger grab, five finger.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Grab, five finger grab or five finger discount as it's
even more commonly known. Have you heard that phrase?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I heard that. That's funny.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
That is interesting. All right, Well, good to know. If
we do this again, we will use more common phrases.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
No, I loved I love the charades. I mean that's fun.
That's great.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Good, And we're teaching, you know, you're learning these these
new phrases that you can use.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
All right.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Last one, number six is so Lucas and Nathan, at
at least at the beginning of the series, they hate
each other so much that they might wish that the
other one were this.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I know what this is? Six feet under.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
That's it, six feet under. And by the way, fun
fact that Andrea are associate puzzler. Dug up Sprague. I
don't know if I'm pronouncing it right, Sprague. Graydon, who
played Darby in season two, also played Anita Miller and
six feet under. So there is a little trusting. I
don't know, I don't remember her, but there you go.

(06:53):
A little six speed under link. Well, excellent work you
did great, You've got thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
That was fun almost but I'd love that you built
them around one tree hill. That's so that's so neat.
I mean, I don't. It's amazing to me that you
can do what you do with your brain just like
look at a situation and create puzzles out of it.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
It's such a talent.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Well, thank you. And uh I only co wrote that one,
so it was Andrea and maybe even Greg throw in there.
So thank you, Thank you on behalf of all of us.
Thank you absolutely. Where can people find more of your
