Speaker 1 (00:00):
My name is John Gibler. I'm an author and a journalist.
A name portuine Cosieu, and this is Transportista. In January
twenty twenty one, colleagues at the Ictiva, a Mexico City
based film and podcast studio, reached out to me about
a curious individual they'd been interviewing. The Victiva had produced
a podcast in Spanish called Transportista, based on interviews they
(00:22):
conducted using a clandestine's cell phone from inside a prison
in North Carolina. The caller claimed to have worked as
a pilot, entrepreneur and air logistics coordinator for some of
the world's largest drug traffing organizations for almost thirty years.
I read the interview transcripts and did some initial digging around. Yeah,
I said, I'm interested, but I'll need to do my
(00:44):
own investigation. Okay, they said, but there is one condition.
I had to hang up suddenly because the guard woke by.
The Ictiva had invited the legendary Mexican actor Joaquin Kosio
to read the English translations of the Transportista's quoted interviews.
I'm currently locked up in a prison in North Carolina
(01:08):
called River's Correctional Facility. You may remember Juaquincosio from the
Netflix show Nauticles Mexico. I contacted a number of reporters
who had either met, interviewed, or reported on this pilot.
The first thing that impressed me was his amazing memory.
He's an encyclopedia of the history of drug trafficking only
(01:32):
in Mexico worldwide. I felt sorry for him when I
met him. By the time I left, I didn't anyone
tell the truth. He wanted to sell the truth. When
I first started digging around in this story, I searched
the pilot's name online and found a Twitter account, complete
with a short autobiographical paragraph that begins, my lies, My
(01:52):
lies made me special. I had sent my fack on
Tony the extra Bravo India Jio. I had to send
the federal police commander and other officials to prepare, so
to say, the technical stopped over, That DIDC ninth with
the drugs? How to make in Suban Dekar. Who is
(02:13):
this pilot? What is he telling us? What? If anything
in this gregarious, and as we'll come to learn, lititious
pilot's story can help us understand the war in which
we live. This is Transportista, the story of a man
with multiple identities and a peculiar talent who became an
expert in moving tons and tons of cocaine. Listen to
