Rashan McDonald. Money Making Conversations Here we come.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Welcome back to money making Conversation masterclass. My guess I've
been knowing a long time and you know an inspiring person.
Her name is Melanie, Doctor Melanie mac clean, effectionally known
as doctor mac. It's a celebrity dermatologist. You know, everybody
knows I love my skin, and everybody also knows I've
never known how to really take care of it. After

(00:49):
so many dermatologists told me, Risha, stop that you don't
know what you're doing, well, she's gonna tell me again today.
She founded the natural hair product development company Innovative Hair
Technology in nineteen ninety nine. The same year. Doctor Mack
was the pioneer for branding vispical science based IAIR supplement
into the US from findom. She advanced that farmer to
bella newtree for women in two thousand and four and

(01:12):
bella newtri for men in two thousand and eight. She
also develops products for other celebrities and beauty companies. Her
Ask Doctor Mac segments are celebrating twenty five years of
free tips without health insurance and no dollars for dermatologytologist
office visits. Please welcome to money making Conversations. I'm gonna
stick with her brand. Please welcome to the money Making

(01:33):
Conversation Masterclass, Doctor Mack.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
How you doing, Doctor mac heyan? I love you, I
love you and yes, doctor Mac is finally back after
five years, and you are the first person that I
granted this interview to. I love you well.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
You know, first of all, you know I've been trying
to drag you up. You know, You've been trying to
motivate me. Where you at, where you at. Let me
just tell you a little bit about this person. I know,
she you know, you know, you know, you know this
is a good conversation because of you know, family, of
being a parent, how you can like put your career
on hold. And so that's why I thought she was important. Levison,

(02:10):
We're gonna talk about hair and skin and all that,
but I also want to hear the women talk about
how you get back in the game, got you get back,
because sometimes you don't know how to It's like jumping rope.
You don't know how to jump rope, you know, cause
you be waiting it's my turn. You don't wan to
rope to hitch up side of the head or jump
in too quick and you trip and fall and bust
your head. And so so you were like in two

(02:31):
thousand and nine, which I would like to say was
kind of like the peak for her, because after that
she didn't know how to accept opportunities. When that movie
Good Hair was hosted by Chris Rock, she was featured
in the prominently. And that was at the time, you know,
Bella was going strong for men, Like I said, Luncher
in two thousand and four, two thousand and eight came

(02:51):
out there for women and men. She had both brands
rolling two thousand and nine. At that point, what happened
mentally for you? Why did you not take it to
the next level.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Well, you know, Rashaan, you hit on a lot of topics,
and I am a mommy. First, I have two adorable
girl their teens. One is a freshman at Howard at eighteen, Selena,
and then I have a graduating senior, Kayla. She's twenty one.
And I've been a dance mom for seventeen years, active

(03:23):
in that whole industry. It was important for me to
make sure that I am a mother, to cater to
my girls, to raise them like I was raised my mom.
Dr Watson. I have been doctor Watson for the last
five years. And I say that because in September of
twenty and eighteen, my mother had a major stroke and

(03:44):
I immediately had to fly to Chicago and I immediately
became doctor Watson. My mother was a prominent physician, pediatrician
in Chicago, was like the top one in Chicago, and
she has tons and tons of apartment complexes. I had
to be that doctor Watson, to be that warrior, to
continue our family legacy how it was supposed to be.

(04:06):
My mother is still in Lanta the Living, Thank the
Lord Jesus. I've moved her to a facility near my brother,
who's a plastic surgeon in Saint Louis, doctor Melvin Macklin.
He takes care of my mother from a health perspective.
She's safe and sound. I'm back, Rashaan. My mother is
ninety four years old as of August twenty sixth, just
the other month. So as I sit back and reflect

(04:29):
on all that I've had to do for her to
make sure that all the stuff that she's done, all
the legacy building and the pouring into making sure that
me and my brother are doctors. We have nine doctors
in our family. So it's very important to me to
continue as much as that. So doctor Mac is back, Rashaan,
I'm back, stawr that ever listen in my house, you

(04:51):
know two thousand and seven, absolutely, that opportunity.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Absolutely and I met you, mam. I know she's the
coolest e So you eat a person at age, you know,
I'm sick, so I know what your mom was. It is. Yeah,
so she's ninety four. Now I got some work to
do because I because she was had to close the hat.
Everything everything was working. When you walked in the house,
you knew a star, a star within the community. You

(05:16):
have to be a star with TV or sing a
song or sport, a touchdown, just a star in life.
That's her mom. And so when people always look at
me to go re shine, man, you don't look like
your age, I don't know what that means when they
say that I'm just living my life. I'm not afraid
to tell you how old. I am not afraid to
tell you what I'm trying to do because I got
plans and your mom always looked like she had plans.

(05:38):
And I think that's the inspiration behind who you are.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Correct, Oh, no, absolutely, because you know I preach outer
beauty is a reflection of an inner you. True beauty
begins with them. So for hex since nineteen nine one,
I have been on my phone that you know, as
the medical director of hype Air and all these different
other magazines, you know, helping us in our community that
not afford to go to a dermatologist, didn't have an

(06:02):
insurance of the like. But I needed to reach out
and touch us. And so it's about folks having issues
with their hair and skin Rashawan and they call crying,
but by the time that we get off the phone,
they laughing because I have beautified their brain. You understand,
we got to get the internal rights. I can fix
the external hey, we can get that right, but I

(06:23):
got to get the brain right. And I just heard
your segment probably when you're just talking about the stress
and the mental wellness that is so critical, and it
is even more critical in today's time because we've been
through a pandemic and we're still going through pandemics and epidemics.
But guess what doctor Matt got folks back from hair
skin health. We can talk about cars, we can talk
about life, ass we talk about travels, everything. And so

(06:47):
I feel good, Rashaan, because I'm just being honest. I
have been stressed over the last five years making sure
of taking care of my mother. You people probably wouldn't
know it, because you know, I'm not afraid to say
I might have been suffering in silence myself on certain cases.
But I have tons of great support. My husband Gary

(07:07):
is right there, is my manager by my side, one
thousand percent. We've been together for thirty years, married for
twenty three April twenty twenty second of this year, with
twenty three years, and so you know, we're blessed. And
so all I want to do with Shaan is bless
more people. And so as I sit back and reflect
back from five years ago September of twenty eighteen, when

(07:29):
I became doctor Watson. I was like, look now, I'm
re energized. I'm not distressed. I have the my girls
are safe and sound. Me and my husband, we're empty nesters.
Were about to get ready to try to travel the
world and all of these types of things. But it's
more important to reach out and touch our community. And
that's what I'm here for. And I thank you. I
still talk about this. It is Rashan McDonald's that came

(07:52):
in my house to interview me with his team, and
I stood behind my bar and this man stood in
front of me with looking clean and his black with
his black shades on y'all, and he said, who is
doctor Mack. I got to get you out of this basement. Yes,
you did that, and you did and I will never
forget that. And so I commend you on your platform

(08:15):
and what you've done to catapult your career even further.
But we've got a lot of work to do. Bloody.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Let's go okay, let's start with this.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I got the ship, all this stuff.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Let's talk about this in good hair, you know, because Stephen,
because because at the time, Chris Rock was being comical
but also very serious, a very serious documentary because they
talk about, you know, hair straighten and hair chemicals in
good hair. Yeah, and how women knowing we're talking about
black women knowing this was damaging their hair or affecting
them physically, didn't care. It was all about the look,

(08:49):
all about competition, always being that knowing the damage was done.
But you text me and I said, this is going
to be one of the strong topics on our doing
our interview today. Plans to propose band on hair straightening
chemical products linked to health risk. Let's talk about that.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Oh yes, I'm so glad. Let me tell you this
was perfect timing today because I was literally sitting at
my desk. My husband was yelling, like more money. Turn
on the television. They're talking about the FDAs you know,
about to ban these, you know, going through the policy
of banning hair straightening priests. I said, thanks the Lord Jesus,
because I have been preaching this topic, as you know,
for twenty five years. I have probably talked to over

(09:30):
a thousand folks personally from the magazines telling me about
their issues and telling me about their hair issues, and
black women telling me. They just finished chemotherapy for breast
cancer and uterine cancer and over I'm like.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
They're going right in getting their hair straight, but don't
know that's right.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
We are dying earlier, dying to be beautiful. Okay, that
is the message. And also my other message is this
calling all moms. Is it straight hair today or grandchildren tomorrow.
These hair chemicals have seeped into our scalp. The scalp
has a very rich blood supply rish On and that
is causing hormone disruption. Because people will say, well, doctor mac,

(10:10):
you know, putting some of my scalp, I have it
gonna affect my my uterism. I will tell you why.
The pathophysiology is this. The chemicals burn through the scalps
into the bloodstream and once it gets in the blood stream,
it's affecting the hormones rashawn. So when you know we
got early mensis and puberty before the age of ten,
We got big five roids growing in our uterus that

(10:33):
we can't even get pregnant. We got infertility because the
egg's not working, and we got early hysterectomy before forty
and women that have not even had children back in
the day pre nineteen seventy one, before the first lie
relaxer came out with proline women. I'm mother's grandmothers. They
were having fifteen to twenty children, no problems. Now we

(10:54):
can't have one, savage That hurts my heart. I could
have I wished more media and listen to me years ago, Rashawn.
They didn't. People did not want to hear the truth.
I'm like when I took my Hippocratic oath at Howard
University Medical School graduation May of nineteen ninety nine, that
Friday of Mother's Day weekend, okay, and my mother and

(11:17):
my brother granted me my medical degree. The first Hippocratic
oth is first, do no harm. If I know something
as a medical doctor from Howard University that's doing harm
to our people, you dog on write, I'm gonna speak
about it, and I will shut anybody down that wants
to shut me up, because this is about protecting our health.
And so right now we're dealing with all of these

(11:38):
women that we could have saved, Rashan. It hurts my
heart to know how many of us women of color
that have passed on of breast cancer.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Because I'm let me give you some statute, then let
me give it to listen to some status harm on
the related cancers, including, like you said, ovarian and breast cancer,
particular black and Latino women. This is what you're gonna get,
you mad. Fifty of these products advertised to Black and
Latino women contain this element that's causing the ovarian and

(12:07):
breast cancer, compared to seven percent of these products sold
the white women.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yes, wow, wow, astounding, right, astounding.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
That's scary. That's scary. That's the truth. That's the truth.
But you know, when you did good Hair, they talked
about this, They talked about this, and on air they
talked to black women and they ignored it. They didn't care.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Yes they did, but I had to. I had to
commend you, Rashwan and Steve because it was I was
on the way back from BLS doing your show that
morning and Gary were on the train and my mother
was taking my toll free phone calls and she called
me and said, you had you just She's like, this
is is She just got a call from HBO about

(12:55):
some hair movie. And I was like, well, I decided
to go to Hollywood, but I can do it, And
so I called this producer Jenny Hunter with her name,
and I said, look, i'll be off this train in
two hours. I'll be at my home. And when I
got home, we had a three hour interview and within
twenty four hours she says, Chris wants to meet with
you to do a full interview. Got in New York.

(13:16):
Me and Chris talked for about four hours, from soup
to nuts, everything on hair and the average hair effect. Now.
He said he had interviewed other dermatism hair experts to
talk in the movie already. They had actually shut down
the interviews Rashaan, but they when Chris heard me that morning,
he said, find her because she sang what I want
her to say and emphasize, and that's keeping relaxus off

(13:40):
of our little girl's hair. Because he had two daughters
and he didn't want his wife to put relaxes in
his daughter's hair. And that is how I got the opportunity,
because I say, keep those chemicals off of my baby's hair.
My baby's all the babies and my babies because I'm
protecting the kids. Matter of fact, when kids are sitting
there and getting chemicals rashon and there they're telling their

(14:02):
mom or the size my scalp is burning almost abuse,
child abuse, really if you want.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
To think about it, because they talk about how young
some people we're gonna go to break. But we were
right back with doctor Mack. She on fire. Todate everybody.
Doctor Max's on fire. She's she's back. You know, the
Mac is back. I know and I appreciate you. Be
right back with more Money Making Conversation Masterclass. Ask doctor Mac.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
with ru Shawn McDonald.

Speaker 5 (14:39):

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Now let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashawn McDonald.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
How you look, how you think, and how you live,
you know, especially in the world of women, is very
important and so as an entrepreneurs, as a forty hour
week person, as a mom. This information that we're sharing
is important because it can impact not only your life
currently but your future. And so doctor Mack, when you
know when I talk about her, the sincerity of her,

(15:36):
you know, she blows my mind. I mean, because she
had an opportunity to be one of the co hosts
on The Doctors Correct Doctor.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Man to fill in his office. He says, please come
be with us, and I ended up doing looking at
the Scout before I left. We it was a lovely
visit and I just said, I couldn't be I'm a
mom first for Shawn. I couldn't be way over in
California a twenty thirteen being there and I still had
baby and had I had to say thank you, but

(16:07):
no thank you, and we had a big hug and
I said, I'll be back though, I'll be back.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
That's why, you know, that's why, that's why she's important
to me, because of the fact that you know, you've
walked away from opportunities some people might call dream jobs.
Everybody prayed for these opportunities, and not saying that you
didn't pray for them, not saying that you but you
had your responsibility somewhere else. Your priority somewhere else, and
you see the blessings of it because your daughter graduating

(16:32):
from college and the other thought about to go to college.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Whatships by the way, at Howard University.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Absolutely she had dance mall. You know, we talked about
so many things, but more importantly we always talked about
multiple streams of the income. That's what she and I
always talk about that. Now you have another pattern on
the device concussion device.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Yeah, okay, so five years I have not been doing anything.
I've been behind the scenes and this major Rashaan concussions
is a major deal of all ages on anyone that
plays impact sports as well as the military. I partner
up with doctor Edward Williams, a African American male dentist

(17:15):
based out of Philly, has over forty years of research
and discovery behind why the majority of concussions happen and
it's at the jaw joint. Hence he's a dentist and
he's in everybody's mouth. He was able to use a
specialized CP scan to look as a size view and
look at the base of the brain where the jaw

(17:36):
joint is and that little thin bone that's above the
above the ear that's that fractures, and you're not able
to see that on the basic film. This man is brilliant.
It's a multi twenty two year ironclad, multi patented concussion
prevention mouthguard. We're launching that in a major way. I'm

(17:57):
the vice president of Sports, Military, Harry and Entertainment. I've
got tons of I mean, this is just amazing. Uh.
And the mouthguard actually locks the lower jaw forward and
so that it prevented from slamming back up into the
jaw joint into the base of the brain. We're healing.

(18:17):
He can heal, I can get he actually can heal.
Make a customized unit for people that can heal heal
the those areas. But this is an actual retail piece
that will actually be available, you know, worldwide starting in
twenty twenty four. Uh. And we're just gonna We're gonna
be protecting brains. We're gonna be protecting these children that

(18:40):
are playing impact sports for Sewan and people that are
actively playing in the n NBA, NFL, NHL. I mean,
this is soccer. This is major. And I am his
business partner and I've kept this close to the chest.
I've been with him since twenty seventeen. And we're doing
a lot for Shawn and.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
You going with me to well, you know, I think
that because you know, I'm a marketing and branding expert.
That's what I do. Now, let's let's talk about because
see I brought that up because of the fact that
you know, jarring and some people they need off guards
when they sleep too, you know, because the right grind
their teeth. And so I say this because this is

(19:21):
not just for men. Because if you know, since Title
nine allows women to participate, and we also the events
be funded, and you're starting to see uh, women football
leagues coming out, women playing soccer. That's a jarring sport.
You know, anything that creates contact, you know, you know, softball,
all these sports when you're running. You know, it's like

(19:44):
it's like this young man Tank Dale that played for
the Texas. His head just hit the ground. I just say, like,
there's nothing but hit the ground. He didn't get tackled,
and he had a concussion his head just he told
for the ball. I thought he was all right. Then
the next thing he say, he can't come back in
the green because the Grand game because he has a concussion.
Because these young people have been walking around because I'm

(20:05):
an older person. Back in the day, they just gave
you smelling salt. Send you back in the game. You
all right, slap you around, slap your head and helping
the coming side left and right, Send you back in
the game. Not knowing that these people were mentally dealing
with issues. Roger Stobach he had to give up football
because every time you looked up he was being concussion.
I think the same thing with Troy Aikman. All these

(20:26):
people were dealing with these Steve Young, these are famous
football players. These are the famous ones that doctors have
told to stop. We're not talking about your son and
junior high elementary who want to be in the NFL
because the NFL is not going anywhere. They playing in London,
they playing in Germany. Is a global sport and everybody
wants to be in the NFL. So this you can

(20:46):
tell that because guess what wide receivers are six foot five,
six foot seven. Nowadays, they're not even playing basketball all
the more, they going out there trying to play football.
And so with that being said, this mouthguard, a lock
of young person's often plays male and female and protect
them from concussions.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Correctly, that's right, that's right, and we can because a
lot of think about this. If you have fracture on
any part of your body where you have a broken bone,
it's going to be chronically damaged and enflamed. Well, people
don't even realize the chronic fractures that are that are
at the base of a brain on anyone that has
played impact sports, and as long as that fracture is

(21:26):
not healed, Rashan is going to develop into chronic inflammatory
issues in the brain. Hence people hear about CTE, which
is chronic traumatic encephalopathy. So this is huge. We're protecting
our current and our future and we can and doctors
can actually heal He's treads the likes of Ali and
Hearns and all of these people. This is just phenomenal

(21:48):
discovery and I'm happy to call him my partner. And
this has been close to the chats for me. I
have not said a word. People are probably gonna be
shocked when they hear this come out of my mouth
with Brian doctor back, I'm doing something that.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
You're back now. You came on my show five years
hiatus and drug you out of the dungeon. That's away
from Jarriet tur Gear and hide now, tug Year. I
got you back out in the public.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
Now. Look, my dimples will be fifty five next Friday,
October twenty seventh. And and so yeah, we we're doing
well this way, Rashawan. A lot of exciting things, you know.
I've stepped into the behind the scenes with the television
world is known and taking meetings regarding that my brilliant
baby doll Lauren Shae Brian, she is the IT chick

(22:37):
and doctor MACKI is making her that that is my baby.
We've got some brilliant projects just today, a few minutes ago,
getting words at a major meeting with a major sports production.
A lot of exciting things. And you'll say the loop,
you'll stand the loop.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
I mean, I didn't bring you on this show so
I can stay Lottle. I brought you on the show
so I can get you back out in public and
start changing lives, so people can find you.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Because told me see, you had my back right right
down the seven. Now I got your worst.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
We got a lot of work to do. I appreciate
the marketing and branding. We've got my manager, Antonio Michelle.
He he was HB. Howard, a lung basketball player. That book,
what follows will be a movie. Okay, imagine if the
five Fab five instead of going to PWY they went
to an HBCU. The book is absolutely phenomenal. Me and

(23:28):
Gary are behind it one thousand or six, and that
will be a movie and you will be working with
us on that movie.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
Okay, I thank you. Well, I would tell you the doc.
You know once a quarter, now once a quarter. Can
I get you back on the show.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Oh yeah, anytime you want.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
Yeah, okay, cool, we will do that day. Just call
it ass doctor Mac.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Just ask doctor Mack. Doctor Mack got your back.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Got your back, because she really is back. And I
want to thank you. Please tell Gary high, love your daughters.
Please tell your mom. You know she probably don't remember me,
but before she made an impact on me. Your whole
family is a great for people to understand that you
can't give back. You can love your family and still
come back and have a career and keep winning. My friend.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Okay, thank you, thank you, love you much.
