Speaker 1 (00:00):
Every Monday eight eighteen, we give you our hero and
our heel. Hero is whoever you feel is deserving of
recognition for something of a job well done over the
past week. Doesn't have to be the weekend, could be
last week. Anything from last Monday through this Monday is fine.
Doesn't have to be sports related, And if it is

(00:20):
sports related, it sure doesn't have to be a player.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
It could be a coach, It could be.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
A front office. It could be a fan base. It
could be an organization. It could be a university for
a hiring. If you think jaybad is the right choice
when it's announced that he's going to be Michigan State's
new athletic director, that could be your hero next week.
Who knows, hasn't been announced yet. We'll soon find out.
Here's my hero. It's Ellie de la Cruz, the Cincinnati outfield.

(00:48):
He lost his sister Janellis on Saturday in the Dominican Republic,
could have easily left his team sat out Sunday against
the Cubs. He wrote a message to her on him
his baseball cap and played in the game against Chicago
and in the sixth inning. It's poetic, justice, man, it

(01:08):
gets you. It gets me emotional. On the sixth inning,
he launched a two run homer and as he crossed
home plate, he pointed to the sky and he touched
his heart for his sister. Twelfth homer of the year,
fiftieth of his career.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Not that that's a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
I mean, Aaron Judge hits that in the season, but
he's not a home run hitter. It's just interesting how
that seems to coincide. He collected two hits on the day,
half of his team's number of hits. They only had
four hits all day. Tough spot, very emotional. We've seen
it with a number of athletes over the years. We've

(01:45):
seen it this season, Mark Schifley of Winnipeg and now
Ellie day La Cruz. Really admire the strength, really admire
the commitment, really admire the.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Love that he had for his sister. So he's my
hero of the week.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Very heartwarming. My hero little less heartwarming. It's Kentucky baseball
and they got eliminated yesterday actually by West Virginia. But
on Saturday they beat Clemson, who was the eleventh ranked
team in the country, sixteen to four. Just absolute belt
to you know what, and I mean.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Belt to you know what belt, you know what the
ass belt to the ass sixteen.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
By the way, that's Eric Backage.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, and that's just that's a hell of a win.
That's an elimination game and just taking care of business.
And you know I mentioned they got eliminated yesterday. But
putting on a show for us, for those of us
who like to indulge in college baseball every now and then.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
That's why I love that.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Are you doing a little bto Bachman Turner overdrive taking
care of business?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I like that too. All right, here's the heel speaking
of baseball.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
So on your point, and by the way, we're brought
to you this hour by Soaring Ego Casino and Resort.
Here's the heel for me. You're ready. Colorado Rockies. Their
season is fifty.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Nine games deep.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
They are nine and fifty nine and fifty. They were
swept by the Mets on Sunday. It's the tenth time
Colorado has been broomed this year. That's tied for the
most of any team in history to have been swept

(03:29):
in twenty series. In their first twenty series, they've been
swept ten times.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Think about fifty losses before you get to ten wins.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
You've been swept of the twenty series you've played, you've
been swept in half of them. Yeah, that's not if
you've lost half of them. You've been swept in half
of them. All right.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Only two teams in Major League history have ever reached
fifty losses faster. You want to know who they are?
Maybe you already do. The eighteen seventies six Red Stockings, who.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Completely different franchise name.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
That's crazy, the eighteen seventy six Red Stockings. And you're
ready for this one. This one, you're gonna love it.
I'm telling you right now, you're gonna love it. The
eighteen eighty four Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Union, Kansas City Union.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
The Kansas Kansas City Union. That's what it is. It's
to me. It doesn't even come up on Baseball Reference. Yeah, okay,
you're not familiar for a reason. Right, It's been one
hundred and forty one years since a team has had
this brutal start. Think about that. Colorado has left eight
in a row. They have won since May twenty third.

(04:46):
They are one in thirteen in their last fourteen games.
They haven't scored more than five runs since May seventeenth.
As a team. They're hitting two sixteen, last in all
of baseball. They are last in obp they are last
in ops. No team strikes out more than they are

(05:08):
last in pitching. It is as bad a team as
you could ever ever put together.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
How in the world, I'm just wondering. I get it.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
When you go to New York, people are there to
see the Mets. Plus they feel like they're going to
get a win. Right, if you're in Colorado, if you're
in Denver, and there's a lot to do there, Right,
it's beautiful there, at least it used to be. When
I've gone there, the number of times I've gone there,
it's beautiful. Why are you going to the games? I
mean unless you're getting, you know, two for the price

(05:42):
of one, and that one price is ten bucks. Maybe
you're taking your kids on an outing. Maybe you're taking
your team to an outing. What means you know what
you could be You could be sued for cruel and
punishment as a parent, as a baseball called CP. No, seriously,
why are you going there? Nine and fifty? They are

(06:08):
my heel and they could be your heel all season
long if he continues this way.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Athetic well, SCHEP for the first time, first time ever.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Perfect word for it. That is a perfect word, pathetic.
A lot of rock they are pathetic.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yes, for the first time ever. I think our Heroes
and Heels is going to be four for four and
one sport because I'm going to stick to baseball and
I'm going to get a little in the weeds here.
But I'm giving my heel to the Saturday Detroit Tigers.
School's off the hook for obvious reasons. But I give
Hinge flack for pulling him when he did. You talked
about it earlier. I give Bowbriski flak for the loss,

(06:40):
and I give the offense flak for not doing jack
all day. You spoiled what easily could about a sweep.
I know, I'm not going to complain too much. It's
not the end of the world. You can't expect to
win every game. And you and I talked Chep about
how it's more about winning series.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
They did that.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I understand, but it just felt like a real good
chance for a sweep there. You had scoobl on the
mouth and you couldn't get anything done all day long,
and then for you know, bowl Brisky and company to
collapse in the eighth just kind of stunk.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
So can I can I just ask one quick question? Sure,
it's interesting you bring that up. You're mad at the offense.
They got five hits? Yeah, why is it? And I
do this too, I'm I'm not picking on you.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Why is it?

Speaker 1 (07:23):
We can't give Michael Waka credit? Who says that Michael
Waka can't put together a really good game like Terrek
Scuba can put together.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Of course he can, and he did. I mean he
put it on display and Hinch talked about it. We
played the sound earlier. But okay, I guess I just
when you had the city scored one run for crying
out loud, that's it.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, your defense. It's not like their offense was great exactly.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
And that's why I can't put too much on bow
Brisk either, because it's like the offense didn't give the
pitching staff and he runs support whatsoever.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
It's not just two hits, man. I mean, yeah, bull Brisk,
If I said to you, guy throws one inning, is
that what he threw? One inning or two one in one? Yeah,
gave up a couple of hits through eleven pitches, seven
for strikes, but he gave up a run that's the problem,
and when do you do it? And two hits in
an inning isn't great anyway. I just I find it interesting.

(08:12):
The expectation.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
It's good.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
It's good to have expectations, but like our offense is
supposed to be every pitcher out there and if they don't,
shame on them.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Michael Walker's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, he pitched his ass off. He outduled Schooble somehow,
and you gotta tip your cap. I get it. I
just say there was a chance there to sweep the Royals,
and they didn't because they couldn't get any run support
for anybody. And then you know, you throw in the
little wrinkle of hints pulling Schooble a lot of Well.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That's let's be honest. That's that's where your aks lies most.
It's not as much with the other okay, I mean
they scored only one run yesterday. Where's how come we're
not mad while for the weekend? Right, one run yesterday,
that's it? And yeah, you're right, and it comes on
a wild pitch. Why are we not pissed off about that?
But they got the win.
