Speaker 1 (00:58):
Eastering sensibly.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
You think that was their best game of the season.
I know people will look at the Chicago one, well.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
Especially since Chicago keeps winning.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Yeah yeah, but they weren't at the time. Right, It's
just week two, So I get it this one. You know,
I think people will try to take away from you.
I know somebody who I got a friend who constantly says, look,
who's Detroit beating. So it's a good conversation. It's a
good battle here. It's a good debate. Who have they beaten?
(01:47):
They beat a Chicago team that has turned out to
be halfway decent, right so far six and three? But
when did they beat them? We form a certain opinion
and then we stick to our guns that win or
how a team has beaten another team. Cleveland, I said,
wait a minite, Cleveland just came off and win over
(02:09):
the Packers thirteen to ten. And you think the Packers
are really good? Yeah, but they're terrible. Oh okay, maybe
part of the reason they're terrible is because Detroit beat
them so badly. Cincinnati, well they did it without Joe Burrow.
Oh okay. Well, if Detroit's winning games without some of
their players, are you giving Detroit extra credit for winning
those games. Probably not. They'll tell you their losses on
(02:33):
the season, their losses on the year were against the
best teams that they've played, and perhaps they're right on that.
You know, the Packers, although we've seen plenty of chinks
in the armor there. The Chiefs. Okay, Kansas City, based
(02:58):
on their past, their reputation, I understand why you think
they're really good. They're a game above five hundred. And
what they do is they back into a debatable corner
because if you say, well, Kansas City's really not that good,
then how could you lose to them? Green Bay is
just okay? Then how could you lose to them? On
(03:21):
top of that, you lost to a Minnesota team that
is now under five hundred. Yeah, they're under five hundred
because Baltimore just beat them, who you absolutely embarrassed with
all their weapons, I might add, which I personally believe
that's their best win. But that's the kind of battles
(03:41):
you have to have with some of these folks. Okay,
Detroit's now six and three, same in Chicago. You could
literally take every team in the league and find a
bad loss for them. Who's the best team do you
think in the National Football League Right now, some people,
(04:04):
including yours truly might strongly back New England at eight
and two. You know, they lost to the Raiders, right,
They also lost to the Steelers, and Pittsburgh's a team
that's barely over five hundred, all right, If you say Indianapolis,
(04:26):
Indianapolis also lost to the Steelers, again, a team barely
over five hundred in the NFC. I don't know who
you think, but a lot of people feel like it's
the Eagles. The Eagles lost to the Giants. Just bringing
up some facts here in case somebody tries to corner
(04:46):
you with the Lions' discussion, all right, And then I
think the Rams and Seahawks are really good teams. The
Rams lost to the Niners at home when the n
were not just playing Mac Jones because Mac Jones is
having a nice season, but they were without their weapons,
their biggest weapons on the field. That was That was
(05:10):
a blow. That was a shocker, okay, And Seattle lost
to the same Niners team that was Week one. So
my point is that just about every team in the
National Football League has one of those, and I would
say every team has one of those losses that Lesia
scratching your head a little bit and makes you wondering
which team are they? So the Lions have one Minnesota,
(05:37):
perhaps Kansas City. Beating Washington the way they did soundly
like a drum as convincing a win as you can find,
scoring on every single possession. Yes, they gave up. They
gave up a big play Marcus Marriot and a forty
forty one yard heave. Okay, so a little bit of
(05:58):
an issue. Zach Ertz had a couple of really sketches. Okay,
if you wanted and expected to shut out, you're disappointed,
all right. That game was never in doubt. When you're
up twenty two to three, it's never in doubt. And
don't give me this. Well, it's the National Football League.
Guys come back, They come back. Look what's happened to
the Giants? Because the Giants have no leadership. The Giants stink.
(06:21):
They've had three losses where their winning percentage was above
ninety percent, above ninety four percent in the fourth quarter,
by the way, not at the beginning of the game,
not at halftime, in the fourth quarter. This isn't an
NBA game where you're down twenty three entering the fourth
(06:43):
and you come back. It's not that uncommon in the
NBA to see double digit leads cave. In the NFL
against good teams, it's a really hard thing to do,
that's all I'm saying. So I think it's something really
important to note that Detroit went out did what they
had to do. The question is can they be as
(07:05):
good as some of these other teams. And the reason
I bring that up is because Seattle's really good and
I'm sure you already know this, Okay, Indy is pretty
damn good when they've got that balance of Daniel Jones
under center and you've got Jonathan Taylor, who's just been
absolutely phenomenal so far. Offensive Player of the Year leading candidate. Okay,
(07:26):
MVP usually goes to a quarterback. You have to say,
Matthew Stafford just threw for two hundred and eighty yards
and four touchdowns. Matthew Stafford also has he's the only
quarterback in history, first player ever to throw four touchdowns
or more with zero picks in three straight regular season games.
(07:46):
I think two others have done it, but that was
in a playoff game and then a carryover regular season games.
He's the first player to ever do that. And by
the Rams winning over San Francisco yesterday, and he was
nearly flawless again yesterday. He's now at five hundred in
his career. I know you're probably shaking your head, going, oh,
give me a break, chep like that's something to hold
(08:08):
your hat on. Hey, listen. I've said this time and
time again for anybody who would listen to me, and
I know there's not a lot of people who do.
But Joe Namath is in the Hall of Fame. He's
in his career, sixty two, sixty three and four in
his career. Matthew Stafford's now one hundred and fifteen, one
hundred and fifteen to one. I believe one or two
(08:29):
either way, he's at five hundred for what that's worth.
But the Rams, the Rams are really good, man, you
know that, right. They're outstanding Seattle. They might be the
best team through the first ten games. Okay, three times
(08:49):
this year Seattle has notched thirty plus first half points.
They buried Arizona easily, two defensive scores, offensive marches of
sixty five eighty one seventy six yards. They're in the
toughest division, maybe the AFC West. I don't know. It's
(09:09):
debatable even the NFC North, but it's one of the
toughest divisions, all right, and battling the Rams and the Niners,
and you could see them as a team that is
the best team in football. Sam Darnold over to twenty
one hundred yards, sixteen touchdowns, done a really, really good job.
(09:30):
You've got Clint koopiek call in the offense. You've got
Mike McDonald the head coach pilot in the defense. They're
a tough, tough team, okay, and anybody who's got to play.
As I mentioned the Rams, where you've got Stafford throwing
for twenty five hundred yards, twenty five scores and two interceptions.
I'm sorry you may not have liked him here. It's
ridiculous for you to think that he isn't having an
MVP type season. You're putting blinders on. You're thinking with
(09:55):
your heart instead of your head. Not to mention green Bay.
Let's see what Green Bay does against Philadelphia. Not to
mention the Eagles, who deserve the right as defending champions
and off to a six and two start to be
one of those teams that is in the conversation. The
strength is in the NFC. There's no question about it.
All you have to do is look at what Buffalo
did by pooping themselves in Miami. Right. Who saw that

Speaker 5 (11:41):
By Meyer almost texted my friend Mitch Lines yesterday because
but you know, a lot of times Sunday he's either
in a blind or doing something outside. He's just an outdoorsman,
so I didn't want to bother him. You never know.
He could have been rearing back, ready to nail a
buck and I interrupt the rhythm. But I thought about
(12:05):
him because I'm listening to the broadcast and they're talking
about how Dan Campbell is calling the plays, and immediately
I'm thinking, Okay, then what is John Morton doing. I
think a lot of people think that same thing as
a player for eight years in the National Football League,
Mitch Lions can relate. He joins us on our Mondays
(12:26):
with Mitch Segment here on Exies and Bros. Hope you
had a great weekend, my friend. What it was John
Worton doing?
Speaker 7 (12:32):
What?
Speaker 5 (12:32):
What does what does an offensive coordinator do while the
head coach in this case Dan Campbell calls the plays?
Speaker 8 (12:40):
Well, that's a great question. I would imagine during the
during the week, you know, it was kind of business
as usual in terms of implementing the game plan and
you know about on the practice field and then going
over going over the plays and whatnot, and then films
and all that. But at the end of the day,
the offensive coordinator, I mean, you're hired to run the
offense and call plays. So I'm not exactly sure. I mean,
he was up in the eye in the sky, so
I'm sure he was maybe not communicating with Dan. But
(13:04):
obviously you're not pulling strings anymore like you were hired
to do. So, uh, that's a tough spot for for
for John Moore to be put in for sure, And
you know Dan didn't announce it all week and all that,
but obviously attention was drawn to it when he's peering
over his readers at his play sheet. So I don't know,
that's that's a great question. It'll be interesting to see
as this plays out the rest of the year. You know,
(13:25):
I guess what what John Morton, uh, you know, does
does he does he do he keep him? Does he
stick around? Is he fine with it? Is he can
he play in the sandbox like that? Or you know?
And Dan said he's a team guy, but it definitely is.
It's a demotion, let's be honest. And you know, eagle wise.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
I'm sure it hurt Dan Campbell, a former tight end,
You a tight end? Do you take a little bit
more pride in that he has been so creative and
so responsible with how this team has been able to
respond with any type of adversity.
Speaker 8 (13:59):
What's however, well, I think the fact that they haven't
lost back to bad games since twenty two I think
is pretty amazing. I mean, and that's a that's a
testament to his leadership. And and I hear you say
the shep and I agree one hundred percent. This guy
is not just some big burley football dude that's you know,
(14:20):
just a big dumb jock by any means this guy
is smart. He knows football, he knows the x's and o's,
and he just executes. And you know, you talk about, oh,
they haven't beat anybody, or hey man, it's hard to
win games in the NFL, Ask Buffalo, if it's hard
to win games in the NFL. They go down and
they play an awful Miami team on paper, an awful team, right,
and they get just you know, bullied and beaten, and uh,
(14:45):
you know, and you see it around the league. I
mean Carolina, who's a team that you think is playing
pretty good. Great, they got an easy game against the Saints.
Not so fast, right, He don't make apologies for winning
games in the NFL, and let's make that clear. And
and you know, so to not lose two in a
row over that stretch of time is pretty pretty incredible.
And I anticipate they're going to head to Philly and
they're going to have a great game plan and I
(15:06):
think they're going to play real well. And I think
this is a huge game coming up, and I'm excited
for it because it's huge in terms of packing order
for playoff positioning.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
I always enjoy this segment. Mitch Lions from Mitch lions

Mondays with match. You can call him today eight sixty
six eighty five Steel. Don't forget his book Retirement of Steal.
It helps you with your retirement advice. He's also a
featured expert in the documentary Retirement Deception of Film, protecting
people from the deceptions of retirement planning. There's a lot
(15:37):
of snakes out there. Mitch Lionswealth dot com can help
you protect yourself from those snakes. And there is a
streaming code on the website Mitch Lionswealth dot com. So
we looked at it from that standpoint. I get it.
What do you think it means moving forward from this
Lions offense? Dan Cable has to keep calling the plays,
doesn't he.
Speaker 8 (15:58):
Well, I would anticipate for the foreseeable future. Yeah, I mean,
you don't take you don't make a move like that,
and and and then and then just change. I mean that,
you know, I'm sure he put a lot of thought
into that is to you know, appearances and the fact
that you know it could be much valley hood and
then media and buy from fans and all that. So yeah,
he's he's taking the reins and it's going to fall
(16:20):
on down. You know, he's going to look in the mirror,
you know, and he always does. I mean, even even
when more of us calm plays. But yeah, I mean
I anticipated more of the same, right, A lot of creativity,
a lot of mixing, you know, getting moving the ball
around at the end of the day, I mean, you know,
the ship. I mean, it comes down to execution. You
can have the best play in the world, but if
you don't have the Johnny and Joe's to carry out
the x's and o's, you've got a problem. And we've had,
(16:43):
you know, some a couple of clunker of games where
maybe the line didn't play as well, you know, and
it goes deeper than that, you know, maybe maybe timing
was off on a route or you know, there's so
many variables that go into a play being successful. And
we've had a couple of clunkers, you know, the Packers
and then last week game against the Vikings. We've had
you know, some good games. Fifty two points against the
(17:03):
Bear's works, Yesterday works. It's about being consistent and that
comes you know through Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, in film on Saturday,
you know, being ready for the game plan and then
executing then taking care of the rock. You don't take
care of the rock, you're gonna lose games. That's what
happened last week. Block kick interception. Tough to overcome that
in the NFL because all the teams can win on
any given day. And it's not just a cliche.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
As a brilliant financial analyst, guy, you this is your world.
So this is in your wheelhouse. Despite Michigan and USC's objections,
it looks like the Big Ten is going to go
through with the two point four billion dollar capital Investment Fund.
What do you think it means for the conference? What
do you think it means for college football?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Boy?
Speaker 8 (17:45):
I don't know's that's an interesting it's an interesting development.
I mean, you're starting to get you know, outside investors
in college sports. You know, you're essentially, you know, being
able to buy some ownership in college sports. It's is
which is interesting and maybe, you know, maybe it levels
the playing field a little bit in terms of revenue,
(18:05):
you know, putting some of these lesser programs, you know,
putting one hundred and thirty million bucks in their pocket
that that might be able to help them, you know,
field a better looking football team next next year. I
don't know, it'll be it'll be curious, and you know,
I'm curious to hear some of the you know, Michigan
and USC's take on it, and just just some of
the pros and cons. And we're going to see as
(18:27):
that plays out. I'm sure you know, maybe there's some
devils in the details that you know that come the
light down the road, you know, the unintended consequences, so
to speak. But we'll see. I mean, it's that's a
lot of money, boy, two point four billion, That's that's
hard to turn down.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
Yeah, And Michigan USC obviously feel like they can raise
as much money as they're going to be getting, uh
from this investment fund. So it'll be a fascinating decision
that if they do go through with this, and then
Michigan and USC and anybody else who's against it has
a grace period to jump on board. If they don't
(19:04):
jump on board, they are susceptible to being when this
kicks in, to being removed from the conference.
Speaker 8 (19:10):
Which can a team go out and just ink their
own deals? Right? Can they just bring in their own
investors outside investors?
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Right?
Speaker 8 (19:16):
Kind of like, can you take back the NFL with
Jerry Jones when he when you know, early nineties when
he decided to go against the NFL and kind of
signed his own deals, right, and I think it was
a co Cola right that he put in the stadium
and when it was a Pepsi league or or whatever
it or something like that.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
And Nike he did the same thing with Nike.
Speaker 8 (19:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Nike exactly. So is that you know,
is that where this goes?
Speaker 7 (19:38):
Is it?
Speaker 8 (19:38):
Okay? Yeah, real spring, we're going to bring in Coca
Cola to you know, go partners in Michigan State and
get this thing going in the right direction. Yeah, who knows.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Let me let me ask you this real quick. I
have a number of different questions, but I may not
be able to get to them all as as an
investment guy. Okay, I've suggested this being the football seems
to be going further away from the NC double A
and the rule. If I were, you know, I would
get a bunch of billionaires and buy the leagues. I'd
(20:07):
buy the conferences and then set up the television deals
and the media rights deals. What's to prevent something like
that from happening?
Speaker 8 (20:16):
I don't know. That's what I'm saying. This is kind
of Pandora's box. I mean, where this is kind of
the crack. What happens from here? You know, it's kind
of like nil, Oh, it's a nice little way to
get a few thousand bucks into kids hands them. Well,
now we're talking millions. So now now all of a sudden,
we're talking billions when it comes to conferences. I mean, yeah,
how much of the sec worth right? I mean I
would think some billionaires can put some chuckles together, and
(20:37):
you know, obviously it's a money making machine. And yeah,
it'll be curious to see where this thing heads. And
I anticipate it's going to happen faster than we think.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
I've got thirty seconds, three games left for some Michigan State,
it's Penn State, it's at Iowa Ford Field against Maryland.
What's left to play for?
Speaker 8 (20:56):
Well, that's a great question. You know, while Jonathan's Smith
has planning for his job, I think, you know, if
it's not lost already for the players. I mean, every
time you're on that film, if this was saying in
the NFL, I mean, it's a job, it's a job.
Interview every time you step on that field. So whether
you're at Michigan State for a new coach coming in
(21:17):
or the existing staff, or whether you're thinking about jumping ship,
I mean, your game, your your resume is on that
game tape, so you have something to play for, even
if it's just for yourself. But yeah, as far as
this season, obviously it's it's a lost cause. You know,
maybe gets a positive momentum for next year, but is
it even going to be the same captain at the
helm of the ship.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
We'll see. It's good stuff. Thanks Mitch, always appreciate it.
We'll talk soon, my friend. Have a great week. Guys,

Speaker 7 (22:58):
Well, I can tell you this. He had a chip
on his shoulder, you know. I mean, nobody was more
upset about last week than he was, you know, and
so he wanted to make things right, and you know,
and I'm also wanted to get him more involved in
all areas. You know, the run game of the pass game,
mix it up a little bit, and so you know
(23:21):
he was ready to go. I mean he just you know,
it was a bad taste in his mouth, like it
was all of us last week.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
That was that was a hard loss. Love that from
Dan Campbell specifically talking about Jamior Gibbs to start such
an incredible weapon he really is. And Gibbs, now, I'm
sure you've already seen this, but the things that a
(23:48):
lot of these players, what we're witnessing a lot of
these players are starting to accomplish. By ending the day
one hundred and forty two yards on fifteen carries, that
average is incredible. Nine and a half yards and a
touchdown runs of forty three and thirteen yards fourteen yard
touchdown grab. It was his fourth game producing both a
(24:08):
rushing and receiving touchdown him individually, only Barry Sanders has more.
Do you how many more? One?
Speaker 6 (24:19):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (24:21):
Barry Sanders had five. Jamior Gibbs has four.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
Great company there, Huh.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
It's incredible.
Speaker 6 (24:30):
I mean, that's all you can shoot for, right, yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
I mean, it's just it's so much, it's so impressive
when this team is really really good, you know, And
even I would say this even in some I get
why we focus a lot on the negative. I do,
because this team has already lost more games and then
the division than it did last year. It's already lost
(24:53):
more games overall than it did last year. Even though
we told ourselves before the season began, this team is
not going fifteen to two. I thought they'd win thirteen games.
I thought they were that good. I still think they're
that good. Last week shook me playing and simple it did,
because I don't think Minnesota's that good. And for the
(25:15):
Minnesota to do the same thing over and over and
over again and Detroit not adjust is what surprised me.
Okay that said, it's like we were just talking with
Mitch Lyons, Dan Campbell's football IQ. His intellect really impressive,
(25:37):
but the feel he has for his team and the
feel he has for the game of football in general
is even more impressive. To get the idea that's the look,
this is not an easy thing to do. I mean,
your team's five and three. It's not like it's not
like your Miami. Okay, this isn't the Mike McDaniel situation.
Chris Greor gets fired as the general manager. Now, Mike
(25:58):
McDonald McDaniel's on an island by himself. He's got to
figure it out. His team's not going to the playoffs.
His team's got infighting. There's infighting everywhere. It's Dan Quinn
and Washington. Deron Payne gets ejected for throwing a punch
at I'm on Ross Saint Brown. They had three unsportsmanlike
conduct penalties where they could have easily you could have
(26:18):
two more guys ejected from those kids. That is losing
control of your team. That does not happen under Dan
Campbell's watch. The way he handles his business, the way
he handles his team, and the way the team handles
itself is really impressive. And I'm not going to be
one of those guys who goes really high when they're winning,
(26:42):
really low when they're losing. But last week shook a
lot of people. And then what did we start doing.
I'm admitting guilt here. We started looking for things that
might peel back an ugly curtain. We started to go, hmm,
(27:03):
maybe this team is cracking a little.
Speaker 9 (27:08):
Bit, almost not overreacting, but overcorrecting a little bit, you know,
because we give them so much credit when things are
going well, and then the second they lose the game
and look the way they did against Minnesota, you overcorrect.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Well, said, could easily have seen Okay, this could spiral
in a bad way because this is what's being told
to us. We'll look at their schedule. Shep They've got
a really tough schedule coming up in November. And my
thought was, okay, that's that's fine. You realize they played
(27:44):
the same schedule as Green Bay and Chicago, right, Okay,
so they get the Eagles, they've got the Giants. Everybody
says to me all the time that home fields a
big difference maker. And if that's the case, they get
the Packers at home Dallas. I mean, does that concern
you Rams Absolutely, Steelers, Vikings, Bears. I mean, that's their schedule.
(28:09):
That's what's left. I get why you think it's Philly.
Maybe you're giving a lot of respect to the Packers
and they deserve that respect. I always remind people Detroit's
a really good football team. Do you think the fan
base in those two markets are going, we got to
play Detroit again? Or because you've already beaten them, it
(28:32):
shouldn't be a problem. I don't think so you think
Detroit's the same team now as they were in Week one?
Hell no, Now we at this time next week after
a Sunday night matchup in Philly in which the Eagles
will be favored and should be favored. I would suppose maybe,
depending on how they fare tonight, but maybe, just maybe
(28:54):
Detroit falls apart and loses that game, and then you're
back to going, oh boy, here we go. And then
we got a short week, right because it's Thanksgiving. So
perhaps that's the case, because that's not going to be
easy against Philadelphia. The thing that I stay true to,
even though it shook me in the loss to Minnesota,
(29:17):
it's not like I thought that team is suddenly gone.
It's not like I thought, Okay, the Lions are done.
They're not doing what they're supposed to be doing. I
don't think this is a team that can do anything
close to what it did a year ago. No, that's
not it at all. But the reason you should believe
(29:38):
in this team is because the man who leads them,
even though he's not perfect, he falls on the sword
like he should when things go awry. But also because
of the talent. I preface it always by saying, if
healthy when healthy. If that's the case, it's hard to deny.
(29:59):
I don't care if you're too close to the situation
or to remove from the situation, it's hard to deny
how good Detroit's talent is. It really is. It's like
Mitch said during our segment with mondays with Mitch, you
got to have the Jimmies and Joe's. Well, they've got
the Joe's, there's no question. And they've got the Jimmy's,
(30:22):
not the Jimmy legs like a Seinfeld episode. I mean
the Jimmies and Joe's. Do you get the x's and o's.
Who knows. Maybe Dan Campbell starts to give a little
bit more back to John Morton, and John Morton is like, Okay,
sometimes you just got to see things. Every once in
a while. We can all learn, no matter how long
we've been at a job, we can all learn.
Speaker 8 (30:44):
Right.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Maybe he's like, I see what he's talking about with
the balance. I see what he's talking about with the
fact that this team needs to expose an opposing team's
weakness and just drill that home time and time again.
The two tight end sets. Little things you know every
once in a while because I've talked with offensive coordinators
(31:07):
about this. Sometimes here's one of the big challenges because
you're so immersed in a game, and because there's so
little time, and because you're so looking forward to the
next plays plural, not the next play, like I hope people.
I don't think people think this, but there are some
where are like, Okay, it's second down and five, what
am I going to run here?
Speaker 7 (31:27):
No?
Speaker 5 (31:27):
No, no, no. You already have to have that decided.
You're already given the two plays. Jared Goff had a
really good comment after the game last night. He talked
about how he thought Dan Campbell had the right not
just plays, but the right personnel, and how quickly he
got the play in. Okay, that's that's a rhythm. I
(31:50):
remember when the Lions drafted a rookie and a linebacker
and he was going to be the middle linebacker and
call in the plays during the preseason games. But it
was taking too long, and some of the veterans are like,
come on, man, spit it out right. You've got a
(32:10):
lot to say in a short period of time. To
do it, you've got to dissect something quickly and then
reiterate it, and you've got to know what you're talking about.
He couldn't do that, so they were frustrated at him.
That's where you see a lot of quarterbacks get frustrated
to the sideline too. You've got to have the play
almost immediately. Think about it. There's a clock that is
(32:34):
going off in the end zone, all right, that starts
to tick as soon as that ball is marked. You've
got a certain period of time where you've got to
get it to the quarterback, who's then got to give
it to the huddle, then get to the line of scrimmage,
and then decide whether or not that play is going
to work or the other play is going to work.
(32:55):
It's not an easy thing. You've heard to a tongue
of a loa mention it in a press conference before
you heard who else. Cam Ward recently did it two
weeks ago in Tennessee giving He said to the media,
I'm going to give you the play. I want you
to repeat it back to me. So he gives this
long play and the media's like, couldn't even barely could
(33:18):
tell you a word from it. Right, He's got to
get that play and another one, by the way, then
go into the huddle say those plays get to the
line of scrimmage, deduck which one's going to work, either
kill or use it and then go. That doesn't work
if the coach or coordinator in this case whatever, okay,
(33:40):
could be a head coach with Dan Campbell or Sean
McVay or Kyle Shanahan or the offensive coordinator, it doesn't
work if they don't have it right away. So they're
not looking at a third down and three like it
just came up. They had to be prepared for the
third down in three. Why do you think so many
of these guys are looking at these placards, man, It's
not to play connected dots. It's to look at certain
(34:03):
plays and say, you know what, if I'm in this situation,
my third down and fives, these are the plays that
I think will be most successful because the tendencies of
the opposing team's defense. This is complex stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
I know.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
I know. This is what we hear all the time
about sports. It's entertainment, man, that's all that matter. This
is high level stuff. So to be able to get
that done, that's one of the things that Dan Campbell
did really well yesterday. Look at how when they talk
about on script, what do you think that means we
were on script. What do you think that means? What's
(34:40):
the definition in football of on script? Do you think
for me, on script means we're getting the play at
the right time, in the right situation. That's what the
script is. There's a script of plays that every team
(35:01):
has its first and X second and X third and
X certain positions or certain plays where the ball is
positioned on the field. If we're at the forty, if
we're at the thirty, if we're at the fifty, whatever. Okay,
that's what on script to me means. And talking with
(35:22):
coaches over the past decades, all right, tell me what
exactly are we talking about here? Stay on script? In
other words, get the right plays in the right situation
and the right timing. That's more important than just about
anything else. And that's not an easy thing to do.
So good stuff there from the Lions. Obviously really good
(35:45):
sound after the game. They feel really good about themselves,
and why shouldn't they. They should feel really good about themselves.
Let me shift gears here real quick and feel free again.
The Meyer hotline is open for you eight six six
eight three eight forty forty three. You need text as
sports radio to twenty one thousand. A little surprised. I
mean Monday, we thought last Monday we had a ton
(36:07):
of texts and phone calls after a loss to Minnesota,
And maybe it's people just being concerned. Right suddenly after
a win and people are relatively quiet, it's a little
surprising to me that you didn't have certain takeaways from
a game like that.
Speaker 9 (36:26):
Well, I just think people have come to expect that
type of performance. I know that sounds crazy, but it's
a lot easier to react to a loss because you're
not used to seeing this team lose.
Speaker 6 (36:36):
Quite frankly, that's just I don't know, Maybe that's it.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Yeah, I get it. I think the only problem I
have with that is that if you're willing to go
out there and complain about a team, are you going
to be consistent and be able to support or give
them credit for the bounce back. I love I've said
(37:05):
this time and time again. I love the adversity that
teams or players have to go through, sometimes it's within
a game, and how they respond to that. Like the
Pistons are down thirteen and they've had a really good
start to the season. Road trip, whatever the case may be,
the easy thing is, you know what, we were really
(37:26):
good on the road trip. Let's just let's just cruise.
Let's go home. It's not working for us today and
accept that mindset. And they didn't do that the Lions.
Not that they would do that at the beginning of
the game against Washington, but look, look, when you're up
twenty two to three, Trent, you and your buddies are going,
this is this is awesome, it's over. Oh yeah, and
(37:47):
you could easily find a way to put it on
cruise control.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
I said that to my brother. I literally said that.
Speaker 9 (37:52):
I said, this is the most carefree, sweat free game
I've watched in a long time.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
Yeah, Chicago, pretty damn good. Yeah, but you understand what
I'm saying. There are teams that just go, Okay, we've
got this one in the bag. Yep, let's just let's
go off script and let's be protective of the lead.
Let's coast to a certain extent. Yeah, this team didn't
(38:16):
do that. This team actually downshifted and said we're going
to kick your ass. Yes they did, and we're going
to show everybody what they have been complaining about, of
what they've missed and what we're capable of which is great.
It also sets you up where you and I expect
(38:38):
that moving forward. Now. Granted, Philadelphia's defense is different, Minnesota's
defense is different, Green Bay's defense is different, all those things. Still,
this is what this team has the ability to do.
This is it's capable forces at its highest level. And
not that we expected every single week, but we know
(39:00):
that's in there. We expect a version of that every
single week. And I think that's fair because that's what
great teams do, that's the expectation. It's okay to raise
your expectation, and that's what they did. Love that stuff,
and that's a fair point. I'm sure you guys would
(39:21):
just back maybe for the first time you went to
red zone. Hey, let me see how the Rams are
playing against the Niners right now. Maybe there's a time
where usually you're watching the Lions game the entire time,
and then you go, wait a minute, I mean, this
thing's in the bag. I'm going to check out some
other games just for a brief moment, and then I'll
come back to the Lions game. Some people do that.
(39:43):
My son was doing that a little bit yesterday. He
told me it's like, yeah, I wanted to check in
on a few other games, and he likes to compare
how they look against one another. It might be a
little difficult to do that when you've got to Seattle
beating the snot out of the Cardinals and the Rams
moving the ball up and down the field against the Niners.
(40:03):
But it's at some point you figure, Okay, we're gonna
have to play that team. I want to see what
that looks like against our team. You envision it. How
are we going to stop Stafford and Nikola and all
the weapons that the Rams have, you know? And then
the same thing in Seattle, Jackson Smith and Jigbow unbelievable
(40:24):
in the first half. I don't know where the hell
he went in the second half, and I want Seattle
went away from killed my fantasy team. But I digress.
Eight eighteen. We've got our hero and heel coming up
here on Exes and Bros. In the meantime, we've got
that open line for you, the Meyer Hotline, and it's
always open. You can talk about whatever you want. It
doesn't have to be the Lions related eight sixty six,
eight three, eight forty eight forty three Text the program
(40:46):
sports Radio to twenty one thousand when we come back,
we'll dive into a few examples of what it may
take to improve the Tigers. Any Pistons discussion. Kate Cunningham
wear's a crown, but Jalen Durham was fantastic. All that
and more coming up as we roll into our number
three on Ex's and Bros. Brought to you by.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Meyer, Brought to you by Heineken zero zero. Get the facts,
be drink aware, Visit drinkaware.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Dot i e.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
He claims he brought the mullet back, his short shorts
are a bit too short, and he's nowhere to be
found when it's his round.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
There's my Heineken zero zero.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
But he's our best mate, and even though he's always
banging on about.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
His dust ninety percent past of leisure.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
There's no one we'd rather watch the match to the
sports that bring us together. Heineken zero zero.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
So I hurt my hip at the gym and ended
up at PHI Urgent Care.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
They really took care of me.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
They referred me.
Speaker 8 (41:42):
To one of their physios and while working on my core,
the physio noticed I was walking a little oddly, so
she refers me to a VHI pediatrist and he.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Was able to help me correct my gait, so yeah,
it was.
Speaker 6 (41:54):
It was really great how Vhi was able to connect all.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
The dots
Speaker 4 (42:00):
V h I because your health means everything.
