Speaker 3 (01:06):
Where are we at in society today?
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Come after me?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I'm a man, I'm forty. Go ahead, make my day.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Every single week. I put my freaking heart and soul
into this. I don't go out there and laugh. It's
not funny. Nothing's funny to me.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I don't wanna go out there and get embarrassed.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
On Monday night football for everybody. I think this at
the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
So I ain't nothing changed from yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
Still the same person I was yesterday, and I got
the same thing.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
For you that I had yesterday. You know why I'm here.
Speaker 7 (01:39):
You play to win the day. You don't play to
just play it. That's a great thing about sports. You
play to win, and I don't care if you don't
have any witch. You go play to win. When you
start telling me it doesn't matter to retire, get out
(02:00):
for the nat.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
It's a big day in basketball.
Speaker 8 (02:02):
One then over the cow Man in three teams, well
Oakland against Michigan's actually four teams, and you saw a
lot of things happening. Welcome everybody, exus and bros. On
a Tully Moore Tuesday. Glad you're with us throughout the
state of Michigan Monday through Friday, six until nine. I'm
Matt Shepard, Trent.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Bally is with us.
Speaker 8 (02:21):
Fiston shoot better than fifty percent. They beat up Memphis
one fourteen, one oh six. Isaiah Stewart goes nuts for
twenty six points and fourteen rebounds. You see that in
the box score. If you didn't watch the game, you're like, oh,
Kate Cunningham fed thirty three, that's that's awesome, and.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
He was awesome.
Speaker 8 (02:37):
There's nothing wrong with that nineteen points coming in the
fourth quarter. But Isaiah Stewart was the guy who was
pretty consistent. He was the bully ball inside. It was
a beautiful thing, it really was. Detroit used their muscled
outscore the Grizzlies fifty eight to thirty.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
In the paint.
Speaker 8 (02:52):
They've won three in a row, so a really nice
finish for Detroit. Michigan open with a one twenty one
seventy eight blowout win over Oakland, a game in which
the Wolverines scored a score record sixty nine points in
the first half because they shot, get this, seventy one
percent from the floor, seventy one percent their preseason number seven.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
I don't know if that.
Speaker 8 (03:19):
I saw an article yesterday that had CBS Sports they
had four or five college basketball writers give us your
final four.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Michigan was in two of them. Due was in all
four of them, and I don't know.
Speaker 8 (03:32):
You know, we've seen all kinds of preseason rankings in
football and basketball and all not go chalk right. We've
seen them all over the place, recognized as this is
a farce. We were wrong all these other things. I
don't know how you want to use this game against
Oakland as a barometer, but overall, Morris Johnson scored two
(03:55):
dozen Trey McKinney off the bench, had twenty one points.
Damara added a double double twelve points, twelve rebounds. Obviously,
they look really, really good, as did Michigan State, who
pulled away from Colgate eighty to sixty nine. They put
four in double figures. They grabbed forty seven rebounds, nineteen
on the offensive glass. Jackson Cohler led the way sixteen points,
(04:18):
fifteen rebounds. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be a
fun Big Ten basketball season. Purdue is in there, our
two schools are in there. It's it's gonna be really enjoyable.
Red Wings will hopefully enjoy the end of their five
game Western road trip. They have won three of the
first four. They're in Vegas to skate against the Knights tonight.
(04:41):
Trek Scooble no surprise, he's a finalist for the American
League Cy Young Award. His era whip and strikeouts per
walk ratio better than last year's numbers. Also had more strikeouts.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
And more innings thrown than last year.
Speaker 8 (04:56):
If he wins, he'll be the first American League pitch
to win back to back cy Young since Pedro Martinez
in nineteen ninety nine and two thousand.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Hoo'sy up against.
Speaker 8 (05:10):
Well Garrett Crochet Boston and Wayne State's Hunter Brown. Crochet
led the league at innings and punch outs. Brown was
top five and eri strikeouts, whip and batting average against.
Both would have legitimate reasons to grape if Trek Scooble
weren't in the mix. Both of those men had really
(05:32):
good seasons, seasons you could argue are worthy of a
cy Young Award, not when you're going up against Trek Scooble. Surprisingly,
no other Tiger is a finalist for anything. And I
only say that because.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Of this.
Speaker 8 (05:53):
Aj Hinch, you and I middle of the season, right
all Star break, despite a four game slide going into
the All Star break, what did we say A J.
Hinch is the manager of the Year. He wasn't a
finalist the final Stephen vote Cleveland, Dan Wilson, Seattle, John
(06:18):
Schneider Toronto. John Schneider's team led the league in wins.
Dan Wilson's team got to the Alcs, but it's more
about regular season.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
To win the West the two seed and Stephen.
Speaker 8 (06:30):
Vote overcame a fifteen game deficit to win his division.
Speaker 9 (06:35):
Yeah, if the Tigers would have held off the Guardians,
do you think.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Depends on how much?
Speaker 9 (06:41):
Perhaps, I just think that was probably a really good
question from people.
Speaker 8 (06:45):
Yeah, that's a really good question. It would be Look,
it would be really difficult, Trent. Don't you think to
sit there and try to convince people this guy's the
manager of the year when they blew the largest lead
in division history.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Yes, of course one of them. Yeah, I forget is
it the largest?
Speaker 9 (07:02):
Nay, it was historic, It doesn't matter. It was absolute collapse.
And yes, I agree with you. Right, So you can't
do that. It's like same thing with an MVP. If
you had an MVP kit candidate, how you finish It's
tough to It's tough to win an MVP. If your
team isn't making the playoffs, it's tough to win. It
tough to win an MVP. Look at the NFL if
(07:24):
your team is not a division winner. Yep, I'm not
saying it's not impossible.
Speaker 8 (07:29):
We've seen all kinds of players in the past, when
MVPs in their team did make the playoffs. Cal Ripken
has done it right, Ernie Banks has done it. There's
been we use plenty of examples in that regard Alex Rodriguez,
the three up for the MVP. You're ready, Aaron Judge,
cal Raley, Jose Ramirez. Love Jose Ramirez being in the conversation.
(07:51):
He is a way distant third, unfortunately for him. Yeah,
I think cal Raley should win it.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
I do see my opinion.
Speaker 8 (07:59):
But remember this, so every time I bring this up.
I was talking with a good friend of mine over
the weekend regarding that, and he's like, well, cal Raley
with this and that, and you know the number of
home runs for a catcher and a switch hitter, and Chris,
I understand. You know, I'm doing this pretty much on
an everyday basis, so I get the numbers.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
So I said to him, look who led the lead.
Speaker 8 (08:24):
Who is the hitting champion? And he's I said it
was it was Aaron Judge. Okay, And I said, and
just so you know, Judge was second in the American
League to cal Rally in homers. He still hit fifty
five our home runs. I said, cal Raley won the
RBI title, he overcame Judge. But Judge was, you know,
(08:47):
just seven back. And then I said, the way baseball
is today, instead of getting caught up in the typical
average homers in RBIs they often times going to the
analytics aspect of it. So who led the league on
base percentage? It was Aaron Judge who led the league
(09:08):
and slugging, it was Aaron Judge who won the league.
Who led the league in ops? It was Aaron Judge
who led the league. In war it was Aaron Judge.
Judge had a nine to seven war. You guys, it's
not like Riley had peanuts. I means seven point three
Bobby wits seven point one.
Speaker 9 (09:30):
Judge will probably win it, right, I don't think so, really,
I don't you think Rally will win it?
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (09:37):
I think he's gonna win it because he won the division.
I think because of his historic feet as a home
run we get caught up in that, and because he's
a catcher.
Speaker 9 (09:48):
I mean, you and I have talked about it. If
I had a vote, that's who i'd vote for. I
just thought Judge. I still think Judge will win it.
Speaker 8 (09:54):
We'll see because of the New York aspect, yes, yeah, yeah,
I understand what you'd think that, and you might be right.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Cal Riley, I think when.
Speaker 8 (10:03):
You look at it though, because he's a catcher, and
because he had not allowed a pass ball all season long,
actually until the series against Detroit, I think that's a
big part of it too. So we'll see what happens
with it. But those are the MVP nominees in the
National League. It's between sho hey Otani, Kyle Schwarber, and
(10:25):
Juan Soto.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Now I want you to.
Speaker 8 (10:28):
Think about this for a minute. We complain, and rightfully so,
about Riley Queen's two hundred and one strikeouts this year.
Kyle Schwarber had one hundred and ninety seven, and he
could be the MVP. When you look at batting average,
Kyle Schwarber hit two forty. We'll talk more about that
and the Monday night football game from last night after this.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Appealing for me.
Speaker 8 (12:27):
As you know, something that my wife would eat in
the morning, guacamole toast. Okay, even though it was like that,
I'm telling you there were parts that I know you
watched it because it's football. That's what we do in
this country. Cardinals beat the Cowboys twenty seven to seventeen.
(12:50):
Jacoby Brissett throws for two hundred and sixty one yards
and two touchdowns, rushes for another. They snap a five
game slide. They forced three turnovers.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Weird.
Speaker 8 (13:01):
Afterwards, Jerry Jones is asked about a trade because the
trade deadline is today. Asked about a trade, and he
says we'll have one, but somebody pressed him. He's like,
I'm not answering until tomorrow. Why you can announce trades.
The trade deadline is tomorrow. It doesn't mean you can't
announce trades. We've seen some trades already take place. Very odd, okay,
(13:24):
very very strange. So that leads us to this poll
question the trade deadline, What do the Lions need to
address most? Do the Lions need to address offensive line?
Do they need to address pass rush or edge rusher?
Or do they need to address the defensive backfield. You
(13:46):
can vote as often as you want at XP mornings.
We'll give you the results in the eight o'clock hour tomorrow.
All right, sound good? Sure, Now there's you can make
a case for really all of them, all right, I mean,
numbers wise, this team looks pretty good getting after the quarterback.
And I had a debate with somebody yesterday regarding Aiden
(14:07):
Hutchinson as an effectiveness. You're paying a guy that much money,
over forty million dollars, you expect more than one sack.
People are tired of the pressures they are I get
tired of Well, look at the quarterback pressures. You know,
it's interesting how we fight against certain narratives.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
When we were.
Speaker 8 (14:28):
Talking about Jared Goff the other day, what did we say?
We talked about Trent brought it up. He gave his
numbers against pressure. What he did against pressure shop not Trent,
but people in general. Shep Jared Goff's not very good
when he's got pressure. My response oftentimes is how many
(14:52):
quarterbacks are Okay, they're numbers. Most quarterbacks their numbers are
lower against pressure. Makes sense, right, But then when I
want to use that pressure to support a specific player,
I get knocked down and told I don't care about pressures.
I want to see quarterback sacks. You're not getting home
(15:14):
every time. Nobody expects that. How much do you think
pressures truly matter If you talk to JJ Watt, he
gets tired of that statistic. And I think some people
are tired of the statistic in general, because how do
you measure it? Are you looking at next gen stance?
Are you looking at Pro Football Focus?
Speaker 4 (15:32):
They vary.
Speaker 8 (15:32):
Right, Minnesota supposedly had thirty pressures against Detroit on Sunday,
So that's a big deal, right.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
There's no question.
Speaker 8 (15:43):
People would be pretty damn happy if you went out
and made a trade. Jalen Phillips, for example, was traded
to Philadelphia for a third round pick, and that gets
people rolling, Right, Why in the world.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Wouldn't you do that?
Speaker 8 (15:56):
Here's what I would ask you, And that would have
to be a future third round pick, I believe, because
Detroit traded a third round pick for Isaac Teslaw, which
is another story and I can't figure out. I don't
want to sit here and nitpick on Brad Holmes and
what the Lions have done recently, but they are at
a turning point. Remember I told you during the Tiger season,
(16:18):
Scott Harris is at a turning point. Getting certain players
at the trade deadline that don't help you get over
the top is going to stick with him. People are
going to lose trust. I don't know if you remember
that comment. I don't know if you remember that episode,
but it's fact I said, this is a big deal
for him. Going out and getting Charlie mort and Chris
(16:40):
Paddock did not satisfy the masses and it takes people
out of that or Scott Harris out of the circle
of trust for them. Brad Holmes not that you shouldn't
trust him, because you should. I believe I do. But
this trade deadline is an important one. He addressed something
(17:00):
a year ago with Zadarius Smith, and people feel like
he needs to address more than one position this year.
Taylor Decker is banged up. We already know even before
this injury that he experienced against the Vikings on Sunday,
that he had been practicing maybe once twice a week,
which to me is fine because you've been in those
(17:21):
league for ten years. You know what it takes to
get ready for a game. Christian Mahogany's out for a
long period of time. That's the left guard. Graham Glasgow
had a bad game against Minnesota and out of his
own mouth during training camp, said he feels better at
right guard than he does at center. It's his favorite position,
the right guard position. Okay, hasn't played great. No one's
(17:46):
going to mistake him for Frank Ragnow, Tate Ratlige is
a rookie. At some point you got to stop calling
him that. Okay, he has started every game. He did
get hurt on Sunday against Minnesota. He's been I would
say good so far. He hasn't been dominating, but he's
been pretty damn good. I'm not going to forget the
games that he did against Tampa. I'm not going to
(18:08):
forget how well he played against Cincinnati. Let's not lose
sight because of one bad game or a couple of
bad games. And then, of course you got Penny School,
who most people would say you don't.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Have to worry about.
Speaker 8 (18:20):
Although even he struggled against the Vikings. That was very
similar for the offensive line than what we saw in
Green Bay. Both games very similar in terms of production
or effectiveness. All right, so the offensive line, for sure,
you could understand why they would go out and maybe
make a phone call to Tennessee Kevin Zeitler, want to
(18:41):
come back. You guys willing to do something with us?
Could we trade you a fifth round pick?
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Maybe?
Speaker 8 (18:47):
Andrew Wilie, who played at Eastern Michigan and won a
Super Bowl with Kansas City and has been in this
league for a long time. Would you be interested in
something like that. Let's call Kevin Zeitler, or let's call
the the team for Andrew Wiley. There are who else?
There's Evan Neil for the Giants, who has been a
(19:08):
guard and a tackle in this league and could swing
at either position, something.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Along those lines.
Speaker 8 (19:13):
All right, so we would all admit, whether it's those
three names, who cares it needs to be addressed. I
think that's fair to assume. Now you've got some backup names,
but there's a reason they're backups. Number one, number two.
You're trying to invoke as much confidence in an offense
that has put, let's face, it has not been great
(19:35):
the last three games. It hasn't twenty four to seventeen
to twenty four points. It's not the type of offense
you expect, all right. It needs to be better than that.
Pass rushing didn't get home against JJ McCarthy as much
as you think you should have, considering everybody else had
been using that Minnesota offensive line as a turnstile.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Look of the week before against.
Speaker 8 (19:57):
The Chargers, how they dominated minnesot both offensively and defensively.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Maybe a wake up call.
Speaker 8 (20:04):
And before you start to tell us that Josh Pascal
and Marcus Davenport are due back because off of injury,
we immediately say, how many times does it take for
you to get fooled? It's a really good song by
the Who, I won't get fooled again, right, Bablo Riley?
Speaker 4 (20:22):
Great song, it's a great song, epic song.
Speaker 8 (20:25):
How many times does it have to happen in order
for you to understand those guys are not reliable. I
don't want to hear front office personnel or coaches tell
me that availability is one of your better traits.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
You've got to be available to be effective.
Speaker 8 (20:41):
If that's the case, why in the world are you
believing that Marcus Davenport and Josh Pascal can still be effective.
They're not available, They're rarely available. Both of them have
certain labels attached to them. Those labels are justified. All
(21:03):
you gotta do is look at their history and then
the secondary, the secondary which many people thought needed assistance

We're going to start getting some some good players back,
you know, some some some really good impact players for us.
And you just named you know you did Davenport. We're
talking about Reid, We're talking about Pasco, We're talking about
Rodrigus U Dorsey. On special teams, I mean, so we
got some guys that are going to start coming back,
and that does give you a boost. I mean that
(23:02):
helps you. You know that may it only makes your
team better, makes your roster better.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
I'm gonna speak for you here too. I think we
like Dan Campbell.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
I think we trust Dan camp I think that's fair
to say.
Speaker 8 (23:19):
Okay, I think we like Brad Holmes. I think we
trust Brad Holmes. Okay, for the most part. No general
manager's perfect, all right. I'm not buying what he's saying there.
I look, he's right about certain things with the special
teams that can give you a boost. Don't tell me
there's not a player there who looks around when Marcus
(23:43):
Davenport comes back and says it's only a matter of time.
I mean, even in their mind if they let's say,
they're not even gonna admit it out loud. They sure
wouldn't tell you or I, but secretly or privately at
home or in the back of their mind, they're going,
this cat hasn't played a full season in his entire career.
(24:06):
Most games he's ever played was fifteen.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
That was back in twenty twenty two. The number of games.
Speaker 8 (24:13):
That Marcus Davenport has played in the last three seasons
that's with Minnesota and then two with Detroit is eight.
The number, yeah, the number of the number of possible
games is fifty, right, they've had We've had seventeen games
in each of the last two years.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Is that correct, belief?
Speaker 3 (24:36):
I think it's longer than that.
Speaker 8 (24:38):
Is it longer? Yeah, then it would be fifty one.
The number of possible games he could have played was
fifty one he has, right, let's see seventeen times three?
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Yeah, fifty one. Yeah, I got and I gotcha okay,
and he's played eight. Think about that for a minute.
Speaker 8 (24:55):
Yeah that's and by the way, and they're not full games,
So don't tell me there isn't somebody on there going
you know what?
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Yeah, I'm excited.
Speaker 8 (25:04):
Why, Well, I'll tell you why because we're gonna get
Marcus Davenport back. Oh that makes up for everything.
Speaker 9 (25:12):
Josh players' teammates are at least questioning it, that's all.
Speaker 8 (25:15):
Yeah, Josh Pascal is a guy who he did play
ten games. No, he started ten games a year ago.
He played fourteen games, but in his career with the
opportunity to play the same number of games as Marcus
Davenport and then some because he hasn't played at all
this year. So if you looked at fifty one plus
(25:38):
another seven this year or eight this year, that's fifty
nine possible games. And this is a dude who's played
thirty six. Are you really counting on him? No?
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Why would you?
Speaker 3 (25:52):
You shouldn't be.
Speaker 8 (25:53):
This is not this is not being a negative. This
is not saying I don't believe in that guy when
he's suited up and ready to play and lined up
for me. I see the hard work that he's putting
in in the off season. I see the hard work
that he's putting in while he's on the injured reserve
or on the pup list, whatever the case may be.
This is a reality. There's no way you rely.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
On those guys.
Speaker 8 (26:14):
Impossible. And if you do shame on you. You're putting
your team at a disadvantage because it's just a matter
of time. Don't tell me that. Okay, we've got guys
coming back, and those two guys are the names you
bring up first, and you believe it. Not even Dan Campbell,
after a victory Monday, with his little lab dog buying
(26:36):
a coffee at a drive through and getting a picture
taken by his wife can think to himself, deep down
inside with the windows rolled up and the radio down. Yes, honey,
I can't wait for what Halloween? No, I can't wait
for Josh Pascal. Then Marcus Davenport to suit up again.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Not happening, Not happening.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Sorry.
Speaker 8 (26:59):
In the meantime, there are starters out there, like I
brought up Andrew Wiley. Okay, I admittedly did that because
he played at Eastern. I called a lot of his games.
Admittedly I did that because he's from Midland. He started
four of the nine. I almost said it Commander's games
this year. I'm looking for depth, all right, I'm looking
(27:23):
for depth. Do I want him or kyote A Waska
in there?
Speaker 4 (27:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Well, I find it interesting too.
Speaker 9 (27:32):
What Jeremy Riseman told us last week in that interview,
which is a lot of teams aren't willing to move
starting caliber tackles because whether whether you're good or not,
you got to protect your quarterback right, So correct, that's
a position that isn't always super available on the trade market.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 8 (27:51):
That's why I bring up that van Neil because he
can play either. Here's the other thing, and okay, Jeremy.
I don't think Jeremy got into this, but I didn't.
In fairness to him, I didn't really ask him impress
him on it. The unit, yes, I said, unit that
is most together is the offensive line. It's not just Trent.
(28:12):
I want you to run a go route and I'll
loft it up there and you go get it. I'm
gonna throw you a back shoulder and i want you
to adjust. I'm gonna throw a jump ball in the
end zone and I'm gonna just trust that you're gonna
go get it. I'm going to hand off to you.
You just got to hit the B gap and see
how far you can take it. That's not what this is.
(28:33):
Offensive linemen need to work in concert with one another.
You go to a nice plate, not that I've ever
been to one. You go to a nice play, you
go to a nice dance, whatever, and you see the
dude catching the girl and throwing her up in the air.
You see the women dancing together and kicking at the
same time. That is all rhythmic, that is all togetherness,
(28:54):
that is all working as one. It's the same thing
with offensive line. That's the hard part about trading for
somebody like that. Tackles you can almost do the one
on one. You got to clash with the defensive end guards.
You work in combination on a regular basis with a
(29:16):
center and the tackle. That's a hard position to acquire
and then assimulate. Right away, let's get to the text line.
The text line Sports Radio twenty one thousand, what do
we got?
Speaker 6 (29:25):
All? Right?
Speaker 9 (29:26):
Along these lines, someone says, what happens when golf goes down?
Because the line can't protect him?
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Right right?
Speaker 8 (29:32):
It's a great point. I mean, it's got to be addressed.
Speaker 6 (29:36):
Man.
Speaker 8 (29:36):
It does the question I would have to people such
a good text, What are you willing to surrender? I
ask you this, this is a different position. Would you
have traded a third round pick for Jalen Phillips? Yes,
(29:58):
considering you're only going to get him for nine games, right,
considering he's only I mean, he has not been a
healthy player over the last two years. This year he
has over the last two years he hasn't. Now, keep
in mind, we have a lot of people who say,
what Brad stop drafting injured players. Okay, it's a fair critique,
(30:22):
for sure. Why would you want to acquire an injured player?
I just got done telling you about Marcus Davenport and
Josh Pasco for a reason. Three years ago, twenty twenty three,
Jalen Phillips played eight games. Last year, Jalen Phillips played
four games. Now this year he's been healthy. He's been healthy,
(30:46):
and he's played nine games so far. He has three sacks.
Just so you know, I'm not saying Miami's great. I'm
not saying he should be better. The most sacks he
ever had was his rookie year eight and a half.
He had seven the next year. He's got three sacks
this year. Some of that is circumstantial. Who he's playing against,
who he's playing next to, who's the opposite defensive end,
(31:07):
all those things.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
I get it.
Speaker 8 (31:09):
I'm not going to sit there and throw arrows at
Jalen Phillips because I think he's a good player and
i'd want him to third round pick is pretty steep.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Usually you can get those guys for less than that.
Speaker 8 (31:19):
But if you feel like there's a window, there's the
word so many people like to tell us throw in
my direction. If you think that there's a window for
the player Jalen Phillips, and you think he can be
that effective for you, then it's worthy. It's pretty steep
(31:40):
for a guy for nine games. Yeah, it is okay, But.
Speaker 9 (31:43):
If you believe, if you believe that windows open, it's
absolutely worth it.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Chep. Absolutely. Here's the other thing.
Speaker 8 (31:51):
Remember we have said this time and time again, and
it's really the way it is in Detroit. All four
teams are like this. Whether we like it or not,
it's true. They are draft and develop franchises. The Red
Wings are doing it right now, the Pistons are doing
it right now, The Lions have done it, and the
Tigers are doing it. I told you yesterday. You know
(32:13):
what's going to happen, right you know, you know what's
going on. Torkelsen second base is going to be mcgonical.
Short stop is going to be a rainer. Third base
is going to be Keith or you know, maybe a
free agent Clark and center Green and left man, I
don't know, and right Dingler behind the plate. That's what
you're gonna get. You might get one free agent or
maybe the free agents will be used to pitchers.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
All of them.
Speaker 8 (32:36):
Homegrown the Lions mostly. What's the percentage of starters? What's
the percentage of home grown outside of DJ Reid, Alex Azeloni,
DJ Reader.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Yeah, it's al KaDee Mohammad.
Speaker 8 (32:54):
Okay, there's four. There's four on the defensive side. On
the offensive side, Graham Glass, it was originally a he
was drafted by the Lions, so he went to Denver
and came back. Can I count him his homegrown? Got sure?
Except for Jared goff In Montgomery and David Montgomery, who's
not necessarily a starter because it depends, but I'll give
(33:15):
you that. There's two two guys. So six of your
twenty two starters offense and defense are not home grown.
Pistons Doncan Robinson, Karris Lavert, Jayalen Duran, Right, he was
drafted by Memphis, I believe, right?
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Was it Memphis?
Speaker 10 (33:32):
No?
Speaker 3 (33:32):
No, no, we drafted him Jesse.
Speaker 9 (33:36):
The Pistons yeah, well, he was drafted by the Clippers
I think, and then traded on draft night, so it
was I mean he put the Pistons had.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
On Yeah, okay, okay, fair enough.
Speaker 8 (33:45):
Yeah, I guess you'd have to consider that, but I knew, Yeah,
the Pistons didn't draft him, they traded for him on
draft Dyke.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Correct.
Speaker 8 (33:53):
Okay, when you make those trades, that's the guy you're
you're hoping for anyway, So let's give them that anyway.
We don't have to go through every single team. You
understand my point. Okay, So if you're looking at something
like that, you better hope that this dude's going to
play are remaining nine games for you?
Speaker 4 (34:12):
Ironically enough? Right, it would be he would play.
Speaker 8 (34:15):
An eighteen game schedule because Miami hasn't had their buy
so he's going he goes to Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
I don't know if I don't think the Eagles.
Speaker 8 (34:23):
Have had their buy yet, but in Detroit he would
have played eighteen games. Are you going to surrender the
belief is a first round pick for Trey Hendrickson. You're
not signing Trey Hendrickson after the year, you know that, right?
I mean, he's going to command too much money.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Yeah, he can.
Speaker 8 (34:42):
You just threw forty plus million at the other defensive
end position. So you're not going to do that, Not
to mention the fact that you've got other guys that
you're gonna want to sign, right, I mean, that's what
Brad Holmes has done. He's positioned himself to sign as
many guys as he possibly can because he believes in
those young players. And by the way, so I would hope.
So if you don't believe in Jack Campbell by now,
(35:03):
I don't know what it's going to take. What you
want your gibbs, I don't know what you're watching. If
you don't believe in Brian Branch, I'm sure. I'm not
sure exactly where your head is at. And if you
don't believe in Sam Laporta, what do you want out
of a tight end? I'm not saying you've got to
sign all of them, and just saying those guys are
trusted and trusted people.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
On your football and they're the ones that are not
redline right.
Speaker 8 (35:24):
And Brad Holmes drafts those guys and then rewards them
once they perform. Doesn't mean he's gonna be able to
do all of that, all right, so you're not gonna
sign Trey Hendrickson after the year. It's gonna be way
too much money. He should get as much as he wants.
He should gun for as much as he can possibly
can get. He's seen it all over the league, he
sees the trends. This is his one chance to hit
(35:46):
it big. Why wouldn't you do it first round pick?
Some people would tell you, sure, if you're picking twenty ninth, thirtieth,
what difference does it make? Well, Considering you're gonna have
to fill in a linebacker because you're not going to
bring back Alexanzeloni. I don't think he's going to take
any type of haircut there. Considering you're gonna need, in
(36:08):
all likelihood some offensive lineman because Taylor Decker is a
walking mash unit. Considering you're gonna need a backup quarterback
at some point, right do we even know even know
who the Lion's backup quarterback is these days? And you're
going to need secondary help. You're going to need a center.
(36:30):
Graham Glasgow is not coming back.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Let me ask you this, though, Chef, because I agree
with you.
Speaker 8 (36:34):
Three those are three big positions, dude. Yes, and maybe
I actually mentioned four backup quarterback. If you want to
make that a really important position, what do you do there? So,
if you're not going to do with the first round pick,
correct me if I'm wrong here. You don't have a
third round pick because you traded for Taslav Right, yeah,
you're gonna wait. You're gonna wait for the second round.
I know you're looking right now. Hey, you got a
(36:54):
chance to win a super Bowl, do it right now.
There are no guarantees that Trey Hendrickson provides you with
a super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
There are no.
Speaker 8 (37:02):
Guarantees that Jalen Phillips has can provide in Philadelphia. What
it is and then we'll get to what you wanted
to say real quick.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
What it is.
Speaker 8 (37:09):
Trend is that people want to see movement. People want
to see development from the organization, not just players. They
want to see the organization develop. And how does an
organization develop? Here's how they do it. They adjust as
a season goes along, just like a coordinator should adjust
(37:29):
as a game goes along, knowing full well you have
deficiencies in certain areas, knowing full well the NFC is
wide open, but the NFC is also tight. Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, Philadelphia,
the Rams, the Niners, the Seahawks, the Bucks all believe, right,
(37:52):
shouldn't they all believe? They show Yeah, Carolina believes. Suddenly,
Carolina believes. That's crazy, by the I know it sounds crazy,
but it's very true.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Of course they do. They should.
Speaker 8 (38:04):
Okay, Yeah, and this is not blind faith, by the way,
this is not you know what, my team and I'm
going to stick up for my team, and so on
and so forth.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
I got news for people. The Carolina Panthers are five
and four.
Speaker 9 (38:16):
When you have five wins at this point in the season,
absolutely you believe.
Speaker 8 (38:20):
They're a half game back of Detroit. There's a saying
why not us to a lot of people. Okay, maybe
the Red Wings felt that way at the beginning of
the year. Maybe the Tigers felt that last year, not
this past season, but last year. Why can't Carolina have
that belief? So all these teams believe it's wide open.
(38:42):
You could easily be out as much as you could
be in. So that's why people want movement. Right now,
we see the landscape of the National Football League changing.
We see what's happening here. We see how many teams
are in the mix. The NFL loves it the NFL
right now, Roger Goodell and now that he's done hugging
(39:03):
everybody on stage, is wringing his hands together, going, this
is awesome. I'm telling you, man, think about the buy
in from everybody, everybody just about you know, at least
the Giants can watch a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Maybe they're happy, but.
Speaker 8 (39:20):
All the teams I just mentioned, they all feel like
they're part of it. Knowing that fan bases, specifically in Detroit,
you need to fix something. You have too many holes
right now and they're starting to panic and understandably, so okay,
not just because your team just lost a home game
(39:41):
to a team you felt like you were better than,
just just got punked by the Chargers, who you think
are an okay team. That's what we do. We play
this game except for everybody else. Carolina just be Green Bay.
We're not going to say anything about that, are we.
But when you connect the dots, you're like, hmm, holy crap,
We've got a a legitimate chance, Trent at not making
(40:02):
the playoffs because of all these other teams that are
in there. So you've got to do something. The evaluation
that he's under right now is that if you want
to keep people's trust. Not that he thinks about this
when he lays his head on the pillow at night,
but if you want to keep people's trust, you better
address some of the problems your team has.
Speaker 9 (40:21):
You're starting to fall back towards the middle of the pack. Unfortunately,
not saying that's where you should be or where you
will be at the end of the season, but you're
starting to drift back a little bit. Absolutely, And could
a trade for Trey Hendrick sent or giving up a
first round pick potentially vault you back to the to
the top.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
It could.
Speaker 8 (40:41):
I don't know how that protects your quarterback. I don't
know that how that helps improve sixty five yards of
rushing against Minnesota?
Speaker 4 (40:48):
Right, is it once you need the most?
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Or is it not?
Speaker 8 (40:53):
All really good questions, all really good questions. I want
to get your thoughts on that here when we come back.
Sorry about that went a little long with that soliloquy
on what's going on in the NFL, specifically in the NFC.
