Speaker 1 (00:11):
Thirteen ten WIBA and Ask the Experts, joined this morning
by Kevin Ham, master arborist in seven time grandfather of
course of hams arburcarelow website Hamsarburcare dot com. That's h
a m ms arborcare dot com. Great website resource to
learn more about Kevin. The telephone number at hams Arburcare

(00:31):
eight six six five nine six five three nine six.
That's eight sixty six five nine six five three nine six. Kevin,
how are you doing on this glorious morning.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I'm doing great. It is glorious, and yeah I'm seven
time grandfather. Now, congratulations, oldest daughter had her fourth boy.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
So this means at at a chunky weight of twelve
pounds eight ounces.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
That is great, dere congratulations. Is also natural.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Birth after three c sections? Oh really believe that's a
big deal. That is anybody who's in the know on
over but now, and so she's a Type one diabetic
and and she just really wanted the natural experience and
you know, yeah, it really it went well. So Kevin,

(01:24):
correct if.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
I'm wrong, You would know this better than I always
was under the impression that cesarean was once once you
had a child, cesarean. That was that was kind of
the way you'd have to go going going forward exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
And and so they they call it a v back
you know, vaginal birth after sea section and saterian and
and it's it's you know, high risk. You know, there's
a lot of complications that they go through with, but
you know, it was it was a great answer prayer

(01:58):
for her. She really wanted this ex experiance. And she'd
taken all three of those other babies at three to
three and a half weeks early.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Oh wow.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
And and because of their size, they were all almost
eleven pounds. Yeah, And so they set a date for
October second, which was their actual due date, and she
went to thirty nine weeks and had a twelve pound,
eight ounce baby who happened to have the smallest head size.
So you know, I mean, if you're thinking of details,

(02:30):
that would be that'd be an important one. And it
was a beautiful, beautiful experience.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Oh that is yeah, I digress pretty well. I know
you're very proud.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
And I know for you know, for folks that are wondering, yes,
hams Arborcare is going to be in good hands for
generations to come.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
That is we got a lot of boys. Yeah YEAHI
grand baby boys and one grand baby girl. And she's
the one that loves climbing the most.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Oh really, I could have some marbarists in the I
think so. I think so.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
By the way, this morning on the program, I, Robin
and I were just getting obviously as we're getting excited
with the changing temperatures and looking at the forecast, we
don't see any rain. And I had heard somewhere that
we if we want good fall colors. I thought somebody
had said, we don't want rain? Or do we want rain?
Or what what Kevin gives us good fall colors? And

(03:23):
what should we be hoping for right now?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Well as steady, you know, declining temperatures, you know, nothing dramatic,
no hard freezes, and then adequate moisture and we should
have a nice display. Of course, the one constant is
the light, right, I mean, there's no changing the shrinkage

(03:52):
of days. It happens the same every year, So that's
a constant. So the variables are the temperature and the moistures.
And so if you if you get a super hard
freeze it kills the leaves, that's going to take away
the color change. They'll just turn brown. And if you

(04:13):
know you have drought, well then you know the tree
is going to shed a bunch of leaves without without
the big change, they'll just get rid of them and say, hey,
let's protect water. And we had some of that phenomenon
in in late August early September, where some trees were
just throwing leaves. And you might have noticed that the

(04:36):
crab apples were especially riddled this year with black spot.
I've got one to look at this morning, then I'm
sure that that's the issue, and a couple others. You know,
I've got some trees looking ratty. Well, it's just the
high moisture level has has increased the incidents of those
foliage diseases. And even even in our spray applications we

(05:00):
minimized it, but it's still you know, there was a
higher incidence just because of the number of events. You know,
we we spray three times in our in our routine,
and that we kind of spread it out and try
to time it with the events. It's different every year.
It's it's kind of a dance, and and you know

(05:21):
you can't cover everyone. You know, your you're perfect apples
in the store. Maybe have twelve applications through the season.
That's I mean, I don't know if that encourages you
or discouraged, but that's the reality of how to get
a perfect uh you know, spotless apple and the leaves

(05:42):
of course are are even more fragile than the skin
of the apple. So you get a lot of black
spot in apple scab and rusts. You know, the apple
seed or rust is another factor that plays in. But yeah,
so anyway, there's some discussion of leaves drop.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Yeah, I think I had commented you. I don't know
if it was on the show or after the show.
I know, looking at through my through my back woods
this when we had that those kind of the lack
of water, I was starting to see you could started
to notice like the foliage was was getting less dense.
You could actually see further into the woods. And that
makes sense. By the way, Kevin and I real quick,

(06:24):
I want I want to ask you about legacy treests
and other things, but real quick, because I was obviously
I follow you on Instagram and other things. Where did
you find this machine from the future. I saw you
go to a vending machine and this thing was custom
made or it seems like personally made for Kevin Ham.
Where did you find this vending machine? And what's all
in there.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's going viral on Instagram? I picked that this morning.
It was one hundred and you know, seventeen thousand views.
I just put it up the other day. I was out,
you know, I'm looking into dealing in with stoves, the
portage in main outdoor boiler because Game of Trees, you know,

(07:06):
we've got that platform, and you know, we're connected to trees,
and so an outdoor boiler is something that we could
effectively market. And so I was out there doing a
video on a porter boiler and this farmer out in

(07:28):
Blue Mounds had one of those boilers, and so he
agreed to come out and kind of do a little
review with me, and then they raise beef, so okay,
I kind of have an interest. And then he's, oh,
we have a store right over there, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
There.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
They're on the south side of one fifty one on
Blue Mounds Road, not far off the one fifty one
Highway and just within a mile there. You got the location,
and they've got a little beef store that they sell,
you know, retail beef that they rate, you know, and

(08:07):
I'm forty. Sure it's grass fed, so some nice stuff.
And they had this venue machine there as we're disturbing
the locals there and and they got you know, it's
on the video there and and uh, you know it's premium,
you know, premium prices, it is what it is. But
didn't stop me. No, I got a porterhouse. Unfortunately, the

(08:31):
real eyes were out, you know. And but I got
a porterhouse and ah and a keybone and just you know,
punch the selection in pet you little credit card in,
punch ther selection and and and it drops out and
it seems it was like zero degrees, you know, it
was deep freeze temperatures, and so it clumped down on
the bottom. And what a beautiful experience that is.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
So definitely check that out on Instagram.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
And if you are, if you got a hanchor and
for uh, for us, you took.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Them into or County and I'll just I'll do a video.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Oh yes, yes, that is awesome. I thought I saw that.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
I thought this is this is right up Kevin's alley.
Was there kind of wondering if that was if that
was your vending machine. Real quick before we speaking of
things that are right up your alley obviously when it
comes to trees and planting and and really taking good
care of trees. Legacy trees just just a phenomenal option
you have at Hams Arborcare, aren't they.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yes, they are. And we're we're putting one in this morning.
Uh and we're actually you know, just just to give
you a little bit of how we operate here, Hams
are here, we had put in a horse chestnut for somebody,
uh maybe three three years ago, and in this spring,

(09:50):
the trunk broke on it. And I saw there was
like a defect on the trunk that ended up being
exposed to the wind and it broke in a windstorm.
And I you know, you just got to take care
of people sometimes. So we are putting in We're we're

(10:15):
like honoring like the warrant, and you know, we don't
cover storm damage, but you know, I just in this scenario.
You judge every scenario one at a time, right, And
so we're putting this in and and it's we're they
wanted an autumn blaze, and we've we've got autumn blazes,
and we've got nice form autumn blazes. And then we're

(10:38):
gonna do five years of pruning on this tree and
make sure that that stays obedient, because autumn Blaze is
a little disobedient. But uh, it's gonna be the you know,
the color she wants and the display that she wants
and and we'll we'll keep it going in the right direction.
So yeah, so that's going in this morning. We've got

(11:01):
several on the docket. We've got a sale going on,
you know, two hundred and fifty dollars savings for the
fall here. So that's that's a significant savings. You gets
your five year warranty and and yeah, what what more
can I say? You know, come get a legacy tree.

(11:21):
We've got a lot of inventory and uh from Hackberry
to you know elms, triumph elms, which are beautiful. We've
got some uh more esoteric uh ironwood, you know, Austria Virginiana.
And we've got some service berries, and we've got some

(11:46):
Japanese tree lilac, and three or four different kinds of
maples from sugar maple to Sianna glenn autumn blazed red maples.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
How fantastic is that? And that's a great thing too.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
As we talk with Kevin ha of hams Arborcare, got
some great deals for you right now. It's a fantastic time.
Been looking at the backyard, or maybe the front yard,
or maybe both, are saying I could really.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
