Speaker 1 (00:01):
The jew Bil Show on demand. Are you ready with
the coffetti cannon? Yep? Okay, And I think they finally
have gotten the zoom up and running. It's the Jewil
Show and we've got Gail on the show right now
via zoom. What's up, Gail? WHOA? Look at that? Welcome
to this show. We finally figured out how to work

(00:24):
our zoom interview. And look at that, Gail. You show
up and a confetti cannon goes off. Look at that.
Amazing that's never happened to me before. There you go
to you and Lizza. Oh my gosh, I feel so special.
How are things in general for you? But your song
is obviously huge, You've got a new EP that's coming out,
so much going on. How are you feeling about all this?

(00:45):
It's got to be kind of crazy. It's absolutely insane.
I'm very very excited. It's very hard to comprehend, especially
because like I was fifteen when the pandemic started and
the world like literally stopped, and I was just a
kid in her bedroom, like having all of these streams.
I hadn't even been to Ohio, Like I hadn't been anywhere.
And so the fact that I get to be like
eighteen and sain like having the privilege and honor of

(01:05):
like doing a Europe or on doing a UK rout.
I was able to have a headlining tour in the
beginning of the year, and I went on to where
the A j R. And my Chemical Romance and Tate
McRae like just some crazy things that like me, even
like eight months ago, would have been like you didn't
do that, Like that's yeah. I have a second headlining
tour that I'm going on this year for the fall,
especially like I'm kind of getting around the age where

(01:26):
i could technically go to college, but I'm definitely trying
to not. Yeah, I didn't, so that it's fun. I
didn't and so I'm going on the avoiding college tour
because I don't want I'm on tour. And then I
brought two friends of mine on tour with me, Potty
Face and Carly Hanson. Um. I absolutely endore their music
and pre ABC coming out, I was a really big
fan of Carly and then I found how he Faced.

(01:48):
I think after like a month ab two is el.
So these are people that I loved before I even
was able to have the ability to go on a
headlining tour, so I just like, I'm so excited that
I get to bring them on the road with me.
It's Gail on the show today. Gail, if you were
to go to college, which I think even a college
professor at this point would advise you not to go
to college and continue to do you because you're going
to do way better at that than what you would study.
But what would you study in college if it wasn't music,

(02:09):
Probably psychology, very interested by the human brain. We all
have our own little things and we all have our
own like personal experiences in our life that affect our
outlook on life. I definitely wouldn't be smart enough or
enough to do that, but in my dreams I like
to think that's what I would. I would be fun, yeah,
for sure. But it makes sense though. With what you

(02:29):
do with music, you create a vibe and you create
emotions in people with your art, and that's amazing. Thank you. Yeah,
it's been so exciting, like working on the new music
and trying to also like think of new emotions that
I haven't really talked about before and new experiences of
mind to put out. Gail is in Spain and she
took time to zoom the Jewel Show today, one of

(02:50):
your new songs is called God has a Sense of Humor?
What brings you to like write a song like that.
I never grew up religious. That just I would never
judge anybody for having their own religion. If anything, I'm
almost jealous of people that like have a religion and
that they like fully believe in something and it almost
gives them more of an understanding of how the world
works and why bad things happened. And at a young age,

(03:11):
like a friend of mine passed away, and even like
my parents getting divorced, and then like I just had
certain experiences happening to me, and there's just some people
that aren't good people in the world, but I want
to want to have hope. I was going to my
mom and I was asking these questions, but why are
these things happening? Who could let this happen to other people?
How could other people do this to other people? And
she didn't have an answer. And sometimes I heard the

(03:32):
phrase God has a sense of humor, and why has
it just enraged me, Like it was like you don't
you cannot just brush it off that easily, at least
for me, that didn't necessarily like answer my questions and
so I want to want to have hope in the world,
and that was me kind of coming to terms to
want to feel that way. I kind of see the
song and more of a positive light, but it kind
of teetered between being positive, having a positive perspective on

(03:54):
the world, and having a negative Again, we're talking to Gael, Well,
are you an astrology at all? I'm very selfish, so
I only know things on my own side. I mean,
that's sky, that's where you got to start. So is
your birthday June tenth? Yes, it is an answer. I'm
a Gemini, but that might answer some of your questions.

(04:15):
Astrology and your birthday and your birthdime and all of
that is like super interesting. We're all into all kinds
of different things. I'm into the same thing as Alex
Alex and ar Mary if you didn't know that. I
also I'm into a lot of mindfulness, and I've dealt
with a lot of depression in my life, and so
I've dealt with a lot of sadness. The way that
I look at it is this, if you don't think
that the world is mostly good, the world will mostly

(04:36):
be bad for you all the time. It's a risk
to think that it's mostly good because you put yourself
out there, but there's nobody that can protect you more
than you, and there's nobody more powerful than you, so
you will always be able to protect yourself, so no
matter what, that's the way I choose to look at
the world. I choose to look at the world like
it's mostly good and it's mostly bright, and if I
get screwed over, I'm equipped enough to protect myself from

(04:57):
the darkness, so it'll never be dark, It'll always be good.
That's the way I look at it. I agree for
me too. I feel like I was in a point
specifically even when I was writing this song, like I
was just starting to get attention from the Internet, and
it was something where I was like, it absolutely changed
my life and I never want to act like I'm
not grateful for it. But then the Internet is a
place where people get to put the extremes of themselves,
and I do the same thing. Even with ABC. I

(05:19):
didn't say those things straight to my ex's face. I
said it in a song because I didn't have the
courage to say it straight to his face, and so
I was at times seeing the deepest and darkest, coolest
parts of people's brains and where they can go. And
it was happening consistently, And I was also like meeting
friends of mine that were also like starting to have
the same thing happened to them. And it was just
a point where I'm like, when you see the capability

(05:39):
of what a human being can like say to somebody
else when there's like no face on it and it's
just through a screen, it was it was really hard
to like try and see the world in that way.
But I agree with you, it's not anything to choose,
even like these of humanity. But I'm there with you.
There's always something you can learn from a terrible experience,
and that is a bright spot. So there's a bright

(06:00):
spot and everything, even the sad stuff. That's just the
way that I choose to look at it. Hey, speaking
of bright spots, Vegas has a lot of lights. I'm
trying to shift the mood to it. You're gonna be
performing who can you wait? Do you have a fake
ID so you can gamble it? Because you're eighteen. I's
just say, I may have gotten tattoos before I was eighteen,

(06:22):
so may something happened. I'm so excited. Oh my gosh,
there's so many people playing there that it's literally an honor,
an honor to be a part of. Like I am
freaking out. If you could run into one other artist
to meet, who would it be? Av Levine? WHOA yes?
Oh what do you mean my green room doesn't say

(06:42):
Avra Levine's green room. Thank you for your time. We're
excited to see you at the festival and continued success.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you on Thank you,
Joy Spain. Yeah, until next time. Did you bil show
