(00:00):
Hi, Matthew, good morning,Good morning. I would like to say
hello first to the man who isfrom my father's hometown of Paddington, London.
Oh wow, look at that.Really Yeah, I was born in
Paddington, so was he. Thenhe left. Matthew, why are you
right now? Are you across thepike? Are you? Are you across
the pond right now? Are youstate side? Right now? I say,
I'm across the pond, adam stateside. I love it. I

(00:24):
love that you still have your accentbecause my dad does not. Oh that's
so DoD uh. By the way, thank you, thank you, thank
you for letting us get like anadvanced screening of our gyle. What a
fun, what a what an interesting, thrilling ride it was. I'm still
replaying it in my head trying tofigure things out. Yeah, you got
me with the trailer first. WhenI saw the trailer, when I got
to see this movie, I lovedit. Well, thank you, thank

(00:46):
you. That's my job. Youdo a great job of that too.
By the way, not the firsttime that you've thrown me with some of
your films. Kingsman. I'm stilltrying to figure out also, what I
loved about this and you know,Judy and I were talking about with our
gyle, we get so frustrated whenwe see films that are so predicted well
and none of yours ever are. They leave you kind of walking away going,
hold on a second, now, what did I just see? I

(01:06):
think that's important when I make movies, I genuinely imagine I'm in the audience.
You know, when I was akid, whether it was Star Wars
right over, Lost arc Et,these were original movies. They weren't franchises.
And I'm a sucker for franchises,but I'm a sucker for franchises that
keep moving the goalpost a bit andkeeping it fresh. And I think recently

(01:27):
that's you know, everyone's been. The studios got lazy and just kept making
the same formula again and again andagain. And you know, there's any
so much cheesecake I can eat everyday before I get sick of it.
So I like to just you know, spice it up, shul we say,
and especially with this movie, tryand be two hours of escapism and
hopefully it made you smile as well. I mean, I just feel we're

(01:49):
in a bleak, bleak world andwe all need a ray of Sunshine,
and we came up with the wholeidea during lockdown and I was like,
boy, it's time for feel goodfilms which are original and and worthy of
going to the cinema. Fall Well, you did that. I love the
casting of it. And Billy hada good question about that one. Well,
sir, yeah, Matthew, I'myou know, living here in the
middle of America and really not knowinghow the process works. You guys,

(02:12):
so I should have asked where youare right in the middle of America?
Is Saint Louis, Missouri? Yeah, right in the heart, but not
really understanding how the process works. And when you look at this amazing ensemble,
this cast, and it's just likeeveryone was so perfect in their roles.
Do you have a heavy hand inthat? Because I always hear about
casting directors. Do they do theytake care of that? How does that
work? Well? Of the castingdirectors normally do the unknown actors the sort

(02:34):
of the smaller roles. But youknow the casting director and I'm thinking saying,
I wonder, you know they don'tsay what about Samuel L. Jackson
or Brian Kranston. I mean, that's pretty obviously who these actors aren't how
brilliant they are and my job.And Johnny Houston is a director who said
directing is ninety percent casting, andhe was so right, because if you
make a movie, it doesn't matterhow good the camera is, the script,
the music, the editing. Ifthe actors suck, there's nothing you

(02:59):
can do about it. We saythe same thing about radio, you know,
right, yeah, well, thesame thing if you play. If
you play a bad song, itain't going to work, you know,
and you must you know, youhave to know your audience. And with
me, it also makes me.It makes my job a lot easier.
You know, if I feel likelike, you know, I'm a conductor,
and if you get the right youknow, you get beautiful instruments and

(03:21):
the best players in the world.I'm literally just with the baton just you
know, I'm trying to make surethey're in time. But they're so good
even if I go out of time, They're just going to keep playing and
I just have to keep them infocused. So it makes my job a
lot easier. Matthew Vaughan, directorof Argyll. This is in theaters starting
on Friday. On Friday. Youknow the thing that I love about this
it is an ensemble cast, buteach of the characters I loved the most

(03:43):
about it was I never knew ifI could trust them just what I thought
I had one figured out, Iwould get another side of them. It
would just take me in a holdof other directions. I love that.
Well, that's the fun of it. And that's I mean, do you
never see a movie called charade orcharade if we're going to the English,
I don't know which one to America. That was one of the big inspirations
for the film when I remember thekid seeing it and by the end of
it, I just gave up.You didn't watch it again to find out?

(04:08):
You know, I have a questionabout you know, Catherine O'Hara,
Actually Billy brought it up. It'sgreat, you know she I don't want
to give anything away, but didyou give him a little free reign?
Well? She is a comedic geniusand an amazing impersonator and and and yeah,
it was just a joy to whatshe she. We've just got a
pop video. I don't know ifyou've seen it. If you've got go

(04:29):
online and watch Electric Energy. We'vedone a video with Arianna Debo's is in
the film. Singer and boy Georgeand Narl Rodgers have a look at the
video because she's in it. They'reall the actors are in the video,
but they she just does this thing, you know, she was, I
mean, how do you improvise lipsyncing? Now I'm going to watch it?

(04:50):
Yeah, so, and I rememberthis. I couldn't stop laughing behind
the camera. You are a genius. She is totally You know what I
appreciated about this he is I loveI love action, I love chase scenes.
My wife does not. She lovesgreat character films. And what was
so fantastic about Argyle is you getall of that, you get to chase.
She was so entertained by the filmand the characters in it. Well,

(05:13):
I got to enjoy also those funscenes. It was just I'd hate
to use the word I can'ty,but it was just really beautifully filmed.
It was so much fun to watch. Yeah, a lot of stunts.
They were great. If you lovestunts, you'll love this. Well.
The true inspiration of this movie wasRomanting the Stone. I have no idea
how old the people I'm speaking with, but I would say I was thirteen
when it came out and it wasa date movie, and I would say

(05:34):
it's my first successful date movie, which kids, look it up. It's
a great film. But I wasgoing to say the reason it worked is
I loved it and she loved it, and we had something to talk about
for the exact same reason that youjust said about eye candy and action and
characterization and story. It's for everyone, and I love story. Valentine's Day

(05:57):
exactly and a big love story. That's what I'm saying. It really does
have it all. It's going tobe huge, I'm telling you. And
then, what are you working onnext? Because everything you put out I
seem to love. You've got tobe right in the middle of another project.
At the moment, we are finishingthe script for Kings and III,
which is the conclusion of aking Harry. We are also working on a very
very when I say original, sooriginal it scares me musical. If you

(06:19):
can imagine kick Ass going to theWizard of Oz. Wow. No,
I like this because what it meansis you're getting out of your comfort zone
and you're going to make some moregreat movies. Well, I love it.
Every movie. I try everything Ido in my life. If you're
not slightly nervous about it, thenthen you shouldn't do it. Totally agree.
Are we nervous or excited about Fridayand this worldwide launch, this release

(06:40):
on Friday of ourgo nervous? Nervous, nervous that I would say, you
never ever know. I mean,Bob Evans said the great line in the
movie business. I'm having a parachuteopening weekend. You're jumping out of the
plane. If it doesn't open yourdebt, wow, well anything but dead.
It's fantastic. If you get theopportunity to get to the theater this
week and check out Argyle Matthew vaughwhat a pleasure. Really appreciate the time

(07:03):
this morning. Yes, thank youso much. Thank you, and hopefully
you have a wonderful weekend.
