(00:00):
Just got a phone call from MarioAdrian Mario. When you meet people,
do they automatically know that you wereone of the most popular male models at
one time and now you're doing comedy? Do they already know or do you
have like a special card made itsays you can find me here, here,

(00:23):
and here and here without a shirton, with my chiseled abs,
and now I'm doing stand up comedy. How do you? How on earth
are you received by the general public. I'm sure favorably. You know,
you're a great looking guy. Thankyou. I appreciate that well in comedy,
I don't think it's an advantage shouldbe good looking. I think especially
straight guys off and they put mein a box, you know, especially

(00:45):
as a model. People don't expectyou to be funny, you know,
because you have you have movies likeZoolander where models are portrayed as like,
you know, very self absorbed, ridiculously good looking guys. Yeah, I
like you mean you don't drive.Literally, my life that I was living
as a model was like Zuoman, that's legitimately what I was doing. I
lived in a bottle apartment with eightguys sharing a bathroom, and we all

(01:10):
got preppuccinos. You know it wasOrangemoco Frappuccinos. I've seen that movie like
one hundred and eight times. Man, I love it. Oh, I'm
building this home for kids who can'tread good. So do they when when
they first meet you? Do theyjust think okay, dumb model? And
then they are refreshingly surprised once theysee you perform. I mean, how

(01:33):
many people come up to you afterthe show and go, man, I'm
really sorry because I just I thoughtI was getting one thing, and it
turns out that you actually have comedychops for this people like never expected.
Also, I'm German. I wasborn and raised in Germany in a small
town called Fives. Show us yourpaper, Show us your papers. Sorry,
I've played. I've played a lotof Medal of honor when I was

(01:55):
younger. You should just start juststart your show like that. You know,
when they introduce you, just walkup to the microphony. You know,
he's scare people with my German actions. Oh Man, So you're living
So you're living in Los Angeles orNew York City or you're just shuffling between

(02:17):
the two right now. Well, yeah, I'm based in LA I live
here with my wife. But I'mtraveling on tour right now, and I
was gonna say, like, youknow, moms are not known to be
funny. Germans aren't known to befunny either. We are known to be
very efficient, you know, emotion, not Germans, you know. Yeah,
so I like breaking that stereotype becauseGermans. I want to say that

(02:37):
though like the Germans, it's notthat we're not funny, we just don't
laugh. I think that's the difference, you know, because the Germans we
don't laugh because it's very energy efficientto show emotions. Well, if you're
sitting in a room full of comediansand somebody says something funny, most of
the time, they'll just look atyou and go, that's funny. And

(02:58):
and people don't normally burst out intolaughter if you're hanging out with like your
own kind, you know, comediansand whatnot. But if you're around strangers
and what, they'll laugh and yougo, Okay, that guy's never been
on stage. I know, youknow why he's laughing. But if you're
a room full of you're a roomfull of comics and you say something that's
really catchy, they'll go, oh, that's funny, and that's that's and
that's it. They don't laugh,No, they don't laugh. That's how

(03:22):
Germans are when you go to German. I've never done comedy in Germany,
but I'm planning a tour once onceI get my green car that can go
back to Germany. Yeah, I'mpicturing Germans at a comedy club. They're
gonna be like, they're gonna youhave the craziest punch. They're gonna be
like, very funny. And thenI just look at you. I think
there's no emotion, no emotion whatsoever. You know. I think the Germans
we suppress our feelings and our emotionsand we use it to make better cars.

(03:45):
That's what we use the energy for, you know, we we just
redirected. I was about to say, you're going back to Germany. You
almost stole my line. I said, yeah, you're going back to Germany
for your Volkswagen endorsements or something exactly. Hey, can you hang on for
me for one second. I've gotMario Adrian, who is a fashion You

(04:05):
still do fashion modeling? Do youstill do that? In all reasons?
Like I'm retired. I'm pretty muchretired, you know, Like when I
was twenty three. I was retiredbecause I was too old. Modeling is
a weird industry, man, youknow, you've got to be super young,
and yeah, what is the exactlythe main thing? But if I
get a job, I'll do itfor sure. But it's not like I'm
starving myself for fashion week, whichis what I used to do. So

(04:28):
you mean you're not just sitting thereand like you know, Calvin Klein underwear,
U eating off your own abs thismorning? Is it? Abs are
really stupid hard to get and evenharder to keep, is it? Did
you have a hard time maintaining aphysique like that, because I mean you've
been everywhere. I was going totake a break, but instead I'll just

(04:49):
keep talking to you. You've doneall kinds of advertisements for Tommy Hilfriger,
Calvin Klein, Gucchi. I'm readinghere Banana Republic, and you've done all
these uh you know, largely shirtless, uh you know, seems and whatnot?
Is that? And you have tobe you know, like no body

(05:11):
fat and so I don't know, you've never been intimidated. What was it
like when you said, oh cool, I'm I'm I'm retiring from the fashion
industry. Did you just immediately goto Chapolte in an olive garden. I
need the endless pasta over here.That's that's that's that's a good question.
No. I definitely there's less pressure, but I think it stays with you.

(05:33):
Man. I've been bullied so muchby my modeling agents because they'll tell
you straight up. I had amodeling agent in Milan. His name is
to be Catibal, and I rememberone time during fashion week. It's the
most vulnerable because fashion week is likewhen you have to look your best for
all the like, you know, runway castings, and you're in your underwear.
He looks at me and he goes, Mario, your body look okay,

(05:53):
but your face looking like a choppybaby, you know. And that
stays and know it's my biggest instor he was having a round fail and
I was like, I'm gonna gokill myself. You've got some great stories
about being involved in the fashion industry, and then how that transferred to you
being on stage. When you walkout on stage and they see like a

(06:15):
really good looking guy. Is ithard for you to win over the men
in the crowd or or is therea weird threat because he's good looking.
I'm not gonna laugh as hard becausemy chick's laughing at him, and I
don't really like that. Is itwas it hard for you to overcome that?
Or how do you belittle yourself towhere they accept you on stage?

(06:41):
That is a great question. Sousually man, yeah, men are are
sometimes easier to win over, exceptgay men. Gay men usually vibe with
me pretty well. But are youwearing Are you wearing the banana hammock on
stage? Because that may be whymaybe I should do that. Maybe the
alien it just focused on the Heyguys, No, it's true. I

(07:04):
think what I'm doing is definitely becauseI'm not taking myself too seriously. So
I have I have a whole jokeabout like how I say that I'm that
I kind of look like a douchebag, and I just address the elephant in
the room, and that usually kindof breaks the eyes when they're like,
Okay, he's not a douchebag,He's just he just happens to be good
looking as well. Yeah, butI didn't show. I didn't show actually
in Texas and one of the guyscame up to me after the show with

(07:26):
his girlfriend. He was like, hey, bro, listen, I'm gonna
be honest. I didn't want tolike. I really liked your set,
but I didn't want to like youat first because you just look like the
kind of guy who would sleep withmy girlfriends. You know. He told
me that that's great, and Iwas like, I would never do that,
you know, I mean, Icould probably, but I I love
it. I could. I meanI could, but I'm gonna go ahead

(07:46):
and sit this one out. Youknow. Yeah, I'm married happily.
I have no interest, but Iknow I know what I look like,
so I just have to address it. And I think really good. So
the comedy tour, you're going tobe everywhere. You've got New York to
Naples, to Miami to watch it, to Washington. You're gonna be in
Dallas. The difference between performing inTexas and somewhere like Florida or like Tampa

(08:09):
or Washington. Do you do youfeel different when you land in Texas to
do comedy. Oh? Absolutely,I've donetown's shows in Texas, mainly Houston,
Dallas, Austin. Austin is ahuge comedy you know. Obviously right
now it seems like I mean,I will say this compared to La or
like the West Coast especially, it'sdefinitely people don't seem to get upset as

(08:31):
easily about things. It's a littlebit more they just there to have a
good time. So I really enjoyedthe crowds. There definitely a difference.
I mean culturally, I have alot of stuff about Germany. Yeah,
sometimes people some of myself. It'snot edgy per se, but I've had
people in Seattle, Washington especially wherethey got really offended about some things.

(08:52):
In Texas, I usually don't havethat fear. People usually come to have
a good time. That's cool.I make I love Texas because I make
a lot of fun of Texas becauseit's like it represents like America, America,
you know the yeha you know.Yeah, yeah, that's like the
image we have in Germany of Americaas like cowboys and chicken wings and guns.
And that's why I love Texas becauseI have a lot of a lot
of jokes about that, and peoplerelate to that well. It's like being

(09:15):
made fun of too. Yeah.I'm literally sitting here in my studio and
I've got there's two guns in theroom with me right now, so and
and and a cowboy hat and andI have a truck, so yeah you
yeah, yeah, I can see. I mean, you may call it
a stereotype, but to me,it's like a reality type work. Where

(09:37):
can it is? Where can wefind you? Where can we find your
material online and learn about the tourand whatnot so we can check you out.
Yeah, it's Mario Adrian On Instagramis probably the best place. My
website Marioadrin dot com. All mytour dates are on there, and lots
of stand up clips on Instagram. That's like the main place I would say,
all right, so it's Mario Adrian. I'll spell it for the ladies

(10:00):
A R I O A D RI O N. If you're gonna google
him, do it while your guy'snot sitting next to you on the couch
eating cheese puffs or a huge thingof nachos, because I googled you earlier
and you popped up. One ofthe videos that I just laughed so hard
at was the sexy, confused, homophobic Heckler. That was funny, and

(10:24):
then and then and but the restof it. There's like a ton of
photos of different fashion shoots, youknow, with your washboard washboard abs and
all that kind of stuff. Sothat's the late the ladies, ladies and
some of the men. I're gonnalove you. That's pretty cool man.
Well, thanks for joining me.What's the website It's Mario Adrian and find

(10:48):
you on in Okay Mario Adrian dotcom. Rex in the morning right here
