Now sure enough, it is Brian Mount and Joel Malkin
with you, and we talked a lot about the two
eighty seven g program and Florida's new immigration law. Just
so happens that Fox was on a ride along with
the Florida Highway Patrol in the Tampa area yesterday when
this happened. This is Fox's Dana Marie McNichol on the report.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
We Don't across North Bene North Beuld.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
A man ran from the Florida Highway Patrol after being
pulled over for traffic violation. When his legal status was questioned,
he took off. He was caught hiding in a nearby
neighborhood shed. He was previously convicted for unlawful possession of
a firearm and assaulting an officer. According to Border Patrol,
for the first time, Florida troopers have the ability to

(01:01):
question a person's immigration status on the side of the road.
That wasn't always the case. Now, FHP is the only
state agency in the nation trained and acting in partnership
with federal immigration agents under what is known as the
two to eighty seven G Agreement.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Talk since the beginning of the year about how important
two eighty seven G was that everybody get aboard. We
had the law that was passed in the special session
in February that mandated two eighty seven G, and we
had a lead recent legal issues surrounding this and about that.
We also have an update there. Florida Attorney General James
Upmeyer has filed a thirty four page appeal to the

(01:38):
Eleventh US Circuit Court of Appeal seeking an injunction against
District Court Judge Kathleen Williams's decision blocking portions of Florida's
recently enacted immigration law. Williams and Obama point t ended
up trying to say that, hey, state can't get involved
in anything to do with immigration because that's a federal thing.
Florida's news law makes the illegal immigration of state offenses,

(02:00):
allowing for state and local law enforcement action to be taken.
In the motion, Othmeyer stated to aid the United States
and curbing illegal immigration within these states borders. The law
criminalizes the entry into Florida of those who have been
illegally entered into the United States. That law tracks federal
law to a tee. It also retains federal law defenses

(02:21):
and says nothing of who should be admitted or removed
from the country. And notably, he also had told previously
the judge anybody else who's asking, Look, I'm not going
to go along with this judge's order until law enforcement
not to enforce the law. She has new jurisdiction here,
and as we heard in that report just yesterday, law

(02:41):
enforcement still carrying this out in the states. So interesting
all the way around. Florida's drought the worst in twenty
four years, according to the US Drought Monitor, with nearly
the entire state in abnormally dry conditions. According to the
latest Stata, eighty four percent of the state experiencing drought conditions.
That is even nine percent more of the state than
this time last week. The good news dry season, this

(03:03):
is not it. The dry season has produced fifty percent
less rain than usual. But we do have rainy season
that starts next week.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Today.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Will Claudie's guys to start mostly sunning these guys. By
afternoon highs in the upper eighties, warmer than usual for
the state. Similar weather tomorrow, with rain chances increasing throughout
the weekend. Gas prices they fell another two cents per
gallon on Thursday, are fifty five cents lower than a
year ago. Today are now the lowest price in over
a year and a half. The average price four regular
unleaded two ninety seven per gallon, and the Pond Beaches

(03:34):
three ten and Martin right there at the state average

two ninety eight per gallon.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
All right, good morning, Let's get a look at some
national headlines of paper. Conclave considered a quick one, taking
just two days to pick. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is pope.
The Chicago born man choosing the name Leo the fourteenth
Church historian Sainte Provost must have quickly impressed his fellow
cardinals during the secreted process. Now, while he was born
in the US, he holds dual citizenship. With per new

(04:01):
trade deal between the US and UK, President Trump, making
the announcement of the White House yesterday, a trade deal
with the United Kingdom is the first to be reached
since Trump unveiled a sweeping tariff plan, Transportation Secretary Sean
Duffy unveiling a plan to upgrade the country's air traffic
control system. During a news conference yesterday, Dufie announced he
will ask Congress to grant upfront appropriations for all the

(04:21):
money needed to update technology and equipment, which he said
will be three to four year long effort. And This
