Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to the Brian Mud Show. Thanks for listening. Passion
plus talent is unstoppable. It's time for today's Top three takeaways.
Happy Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
It is a happy Friday, and it's also a beautiful Friday.
This weekend is going to be amazing, the nicest of
the year. Joe, I'm sure you're going to get out
and enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Oh, of course, I'm gonna go to the movies. I
gotta get out from the car. It's a bit of
a walk from where the parking lot is to want
to dent the doors to the theater, So I'm gonna
I'm gonna go a little bit slower than normal, take
some time.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Do you actually encounter people when you dent the door
said movie theater these days?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well, there's there's a person sitting there, usually a kid,
you know, that's looking at you know. They want to
they want to see my ticket. Now I'm purchasing it
there because I don't, you know, I don't want to
spend the extra fees, so I have, you know, a
little conversation there.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Okay, so you do encounter somebody, I'm just you have
my sympathies. By the way, for your weekend, plans. I
will spend as much time really enjoining the amazing weather
starting this afternoon. I mean, as soon as the afternoon
hits it's on.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
I am going to see some family this weekend. My
brother's actually in town from New England. He was able
to get in town down to Fort Lauderdale with no delays.
So that's incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Okay, Well, escaping from New York's always a good thing,
all right. So it is time for Florida to win
at everything. My top three takeaways for you. It is
time to win at everything. And where I'm going with
my takeaways today is actually something that Vice President jd
Vance was hitting on with Shaan Handed the un Fox
(01:51):
last night.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
He had this to say, over.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
The next three years three months, to make sure that
more people can afford a good life.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
They can afford to.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Buy homes, young people can afford to our families, and
we've actually got good jobs that put people on a
career trajectory to stability.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Right, Okay, So when we talk about affordability, and obviously
the Trump administration is now really taking a look at
driving affordability from here, they understand the importance. There is
nothing that speaks to the challenges of affordability. More than
what your single biggest expense, the roof over your head, right,
(02:26):
If you make that more affordable, life is eminently more doable.
So about that, my top takeaway is that is time
to win at everything. Yesterday I brought you the remarkable
news about the extent to which Florida has won over
the past decade and also while why there's every indication
(02:47):
that we're going to continue to win into the future.
Great decision making by us, Mom, Donnie Kami size, bad
decision making by them.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
And in case you missed it, new.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Studies showed the extent to which Florida has flourished at
the expensive, high tax states over the past decade. Florida's
net migration has resulted in a bump of over one
trillion dollars in income to our state. The second closest
Texas at two hundred and ninety billion dollars gain. It's
(03:19):
kind of like thanks Texas, welcome, Welcome to our party.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
You may stay for a little while too.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Just a little while though, to put that into perspective,
Florida's current fiscal year budget one hundred and seventeen billion
dollars okay, in other words, just the impact of the
income that we've recruited in two our state through great
policy and geography over the past decade is the equivalent
(03:49):
of what it takes to run our state for eight
and a half years.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
But you know what we could do better.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
The Tax Foundation just released their state competitiveness ranking for
twenty twenty six. And where is it that you would
think that Florida would rank. I mean, you're gonna imagine
we're doing pretty well? Right, Well, see where this fits?
We're number five, I'm guessing for a lot of folks,
(04:19):
not as strong as you might have thought.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
No, I would have I would have thought we were
closer to one, but I didn't think we were quite
number one.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh. Five's not bad by any means, obviously, but we're
not winning there.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Why okay?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
So which area of taxation do you think Florida ranks
lowest in comparison to states across the country?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Doude do pret you? Thank y'all? Well, there we go? Sorry?
Would it be property taxes? Property taxes? Yes, yes, property taxes.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Florida's last of a state income tax ties us for
first with the smattering of other no income tax states.
Our state is well within the top twenty in all
other categories. Where we are weakest. Where we rank lowest,
which is at number twenty, is with property taxes. Now,
(05:25):
since win has Florida settled for only being about midpack
at anything. It is time for Florida to win at everything,
including the total tax burnen imposed by stating local governments.
And aside from the fact that I want this state
to win at everything, I never get tired of winning.
(05:49):
There's a highly instructive point that comes along with the
Tax Foundation study amid the current property tax debate in
this state. For those who will say the local governments
can't afford to go without homestead property tax revenue, which
is demonstrably false, as I have repeatedly evidenced, Riddle me
(06:10):
this question.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
It's my second takeaway today.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Why is it that four other states have total tax
burdens that are lower than Florida's.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Why?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
How Before I continue, another word from the Vice President,
if you.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Look in the red states, we're actually doing a very
good job. One of the biggest challenges that we have
in the housing market, aside from too many legal aliens
who are taking the houses of American citizens, is that
in the blue states, you're not building enough houses.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Okay, that's true, But then you start taking a look
at property taxes in those red states. Most red states
do better on property taxes than Florida. Why we have
other states that are ahead of us, Obviously we can
do better. What's more, is this one of the and
also inaccurate arguments, is that Florida's property tax burdens just
(07:05):
naturally going to be higher because the state doesn't generate
money that has passed through without a state income tax.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Only that's also provably untrue.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Not only are there multiple examples of the combination of
taxation doing better than us, but what of the other
states without an income tax? South Dakota also ranks eighth
and property tax burdens, while also ranking first for having
the lowest corporate burden two one, one in eight, or one,
(07:39):
seventeen and twenty in those categories. And my point in
mentioning this is twofold. First, everything every opponent of ending
homestead of property taxes and Florida argues cannot be done.
It's already been done, unto a large degree somewhere else. Second,
over the past decade, Florida has been number one in
(08:02):
almost everything including the remarkable amount of income and business
migration into our state that is greater than three times
what any other state has done. So there is simply
no excuse for why four other states have total tax
burdens that are lower than Florida's. This is my third
(08:23):
takeaway today. One more ward here from Vice President JD.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Vans.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
I know that there are a lot of people out
there Sean who are saying things are expensive, and we
have to remember they're expensive because we inherited this terrible
inflation crisis from the Biden administration.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Right.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Van's talking about controlling what you can control here, right,
we can control a lot when it comes to making
things much more affordable.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
With property taxes.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
We have all the economic power and subsequent revenue generation
to be number one for the lowest tax burden. But
we won't get there when nineteen other states impose lower
property taxes than what we pay. And here's the next
related and highly instructive point. As Florida's economy, education, and
(09:16):
economic policies have continued to improve, what has that led
record setting numbers of people to do it's a move here, right,
and often bring their businesses. So if Florida produced best
in the nation taxation on top of what we already do.
(09:37):
What do you think the impact economically is going to be.
There is absolutely no doubt that the additional income and
revenue generation would far more than compensate for revenues not
generated for local governments through the imposition of owner's property taxes.
(10:01):
This is basic economics, which I understand for many in
government is it might as well be Mandarin, but it
works that way. Just roll with it. What we have
in front of us is a once in a lifetime
opportunity to take a big swing, to truly own our homes,
(10:24):
to permanently improve affordability, and to win at this. Governor
DeSantis is right about this, just as he's been right
on all the other major swings.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Let me ask you, how.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Many people really thought the K through twelve education curriculum
in the state would truly be reformed completely, reform top
to bottom. How many people really thought that Florida perennial
bottom ten state and education would be the national leader,
ranking number one for education in back to back years.
(11:00):
How many people thought DeSantis was right when after a
month of lockdowns during COVID, he reopened the state. How
many people thought he was right to fight the teachers'
unions and force education back in the classrooms. How many
people thought universal school choice was possible and affordable. We
(11:21):
have record surpluses in this state with the universal school choice.
How many fights, how many stories your GSS news media
and all the unions out there.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
We can't afford it, We can't do it. They same
people here we're talking about. How many people.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Thought you could build a bridge in a week after
a hurricane or take over every delay restoration from the
federal government. How many people thought that Florida would go
from being the laughing stock of how to run elections
to the best run system in the nation and basically
one cycle, by the way, how many people thought DeSantis
could take on woe companies like Disney over detrimental DEI
(12:01):
policies and win. How many people said the state's industries
would collapse with everify through tough immigration laws. How many
people said we'd have five dollars strawberries, Actually just one
that I'm aware of. But how many people said it
was politically impossible to protect life through a ban on
(12:23):
abortions at six weeks when there's a heartbeat, and I'll
point out. Everything I just shared with you is an
extraordinarily paired down list of examples. I just went for
things that I know the average person, the average local
government official opposed.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
That's all it.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Those are the wins that the average one of these people,
we can't do it opposed. They're dead wrong on all
those things. Everybody who stood on every other side of
those issues said it couldn't be done wrong. And they're
the same people that say we can't do this. Cut
the crap. There's always been a bunch of people, often
even a majority of people who say you can't do
(13:07):
the big things. We've done them, and it's how we
won as a state. And so now those same people,
but we can't eliminate homestead of property taxes too.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Question is who do you believe?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
And even more to the point, who has the most
credibility on this issue?
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Governor DeSantis.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Are the same local government fools and the unions and
all these other income poops who oppose him every step
of the way in his accomplishments. You don't win by chance,
You don't achieve success as significance without greatness. It is
time for Florida to win it everything. It's what Governor
DeSantis has proposed we do. It's something that's demonstrably possible
(13:49):
for us to do.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
So the question is who will you support?
Speaker 2 (13:54):
What is it you will support these little half measures
or to really win at this, by the way, bonus
to actually own your home rather than renting it from
all those stinking tax taxing authorities agencies on your bill.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Take a look at that, by the way answer here
should be obvious.
